Fuel restriction could result in loss of power and/or engine stall, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Ti automotive will notify owners and replace the defective fuel pump modules free of charge. the recall began on october 6, 2006. owners may contact ti automotive toll-free at 1-877-461-1834.
On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. an inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.
Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
Dealers will install a new load-limiting push rod into the floor shifter lever of the affected vehicles. owner notification began on june 14, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. the right rear brake tube can contact the exhaust system clamp and wear a hole in it.
Daimlerchrysler recall no. 843. if this happens, the tube could leak, reducing the effectiveness of one-half of the diagonally split braking system, and resulting in longer stopping distances.
Dealers will inspect the brake tubes for visible evidence of contact with the exhaust system clamp. if the tube shows evidence of contact, it will be replaced. if no evidence of contact exists, the tube will be fastened with a clip.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. the adjustment of the cable connecting the console shifter mechanism to the ignition key can cause a trapped key condition which can result in a low force required to depress the shift button. a combination of applying a mis-adjusted release button with a low force attempt to…
If this happens, the "ignition-park" interlock system will be nonfunctional.
Dealers will inspect for proper operation of the system. any vehicles that are not functional after the inspection will have the shift mechanism and cable replaced with a "self-adjusting" design.
Visible white smoke coming from engine compartment. Damaged power steering pressure line was found after diagnostic care was provided. Checked for other known issues, found recall # 06v001000 describing my exact issue and falling under similar model of car, however my car "does not qualify for that recall" and all recalls have been completed on the vehicle.
On 11/22/2017 a fire originated in the drivers side dashboard resulting in the vehicle burning to a total loss of the vehicle. was towed and kept by the tow truck operator after we relinquished the title.
TL* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze. The contact stated that the rear seat belts do not lock and would not retract properly. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 216,000.
I have a difficult time turning wheel to the left and like a "clicking noise" anad feel when I am turning to the right. We just did front end alignment, outer tie rods and brake system. Not sure what the problem can be.
TL* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze equipped with falken sincera (na) tires, size: 195/70/r14 (na). While driving 65 mph, the front passenger side tire blew out without warning. After inspecting the vehicle, the tire bead wire became unraveled, cut through the brakes line, and fractured the lower ball joint. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence, where it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The technician determined that the tire was defective and needed to be returned to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The tires were not replaced and the vehicle was not repaired. The tire failure mileage was 50 and the vehicle failure mileage was 177,000.
Towards the end of july 2014, the front end started making crunching noises when driving at low speeds, turning and or coming to a stop. I also noticed play in the steering. when I took the car for its oil change on august 19, 2014, the shop informed me that the tie rods were loose and both outer tie rods needed to be replaced. this was done on september 25, 2014, at a cost of $511.70, which included a wheel alignment. At that time the shop recommended I replace my brakes which I did on october 31, 2014. the shop suggested that I get another wheel alignment. I still have the crunch and don't know why. please help., ps: I am the original owner of the car having purchased it new at tufano motors in new britain, ct. *tr
Car has been leaking oil on the back side of head around the head gasket for years, found out that many has had the same problem.... Also noticed that when I remove the number one spark plug that it has oil all over it as well... *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze. The contact was driving 1 mph when the vehicle started to smoke from the driver side door panel before catching fire. the contact was able to pull over and exit the vehicle. The fire was extinguished. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The dealer was contacted and they stated that they would have to inspect the vehicle but there had been no response from the dealer. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and the current mileage was unknown.
TL* the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze. The contact stated the vehicle was parked when he noticed a large amount of oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that one of the head gaskets was blown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 79,000.
I have noticed that a white smoke has been coming from under the hood, noticeably when the car IS turned off, or when I am stopped. I have looked under the hood, and it seems to be coming from behind the engine, on the drivers side. I did replace the valve cover casket, and I thought that was the issue, and cleaned the engine. However, it IS still occurring... I notice saturation on the two lines running behind the engines, but not sure if it a crack in the cylinder head. However, I am not loosing oil nor antifreeze. Also, they are not mixing in the engine. It IS just happening there. I did find on forums and on nhtsa that there was a recall for the 1999-2000 model year for the stratus/breeze/cirrus with a 2.4 ltr engine, and that it IS most likely the high pressure return line for the power steering. I have not yet checked the fluid level in the p/s. I have heard that other cars have caught fire, and that p/s fluid IS highly flammable... I called daimlerchrysler and they said that with my vin its not covered under said recall, and the 2 recalls on the car have already been addressed. 1998 plymouth breeze, base sdn 2.4L 4CYL engine vin: [xxx] owner(self): [xxx] please note what I've found: nhtsa campaign ID number: 06v001000 nhtsa action number: pe05036 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.4 liter engines, the high pressure power steering hose may prematurely heat age and develop a leak. also, found on http://www.arfc.org/complaints/1998/plymouth/breeze/10228283.aspx smoke coming from engine compartment. Source of smoke determined to be from power steering fluid leaking from high pressure hose onto exhaust manifold. Defect has been identified in nhtsa action no. Pe05036 for this model of car (1998 plymouth breeze, 2.4L engine), however, the resulting recall (06v001000) did not include this year model. The recall should be expanded to additional year models identified in nhtsa action no. Pe05036 or the manufacturer.... information redacted pursuant to the freedo
I have a 1998 plymouth breeze with a 2.0 liter motor. I have only 6000 miles on this vehicle because I drive very little with it. I am 81 years old and dont do much driving any more. I recently found motor oil in my water inside my radiator. *tr I was told by a chrysler dealership that my head gasket was blown. They told me that any motor between 1995-2005 had defective head gaskets and that chrysler corporation had corrected the problem by introducing a new revised version on the head gasket ...thicker, more durable! Anyway the dealership new about it as did many persons on the internet that owned these vehicles from the years that I specified. So I called chrysler corporation and tyler asked me for the vin number to my vehicle and told me that I had 2 recalls on it but they knew nothing of a defective head gasket problem with the years I specified and would not opt to fix it for me or anyone else for that fact. So I am reporting chrysler corporation for their lack of honesty and customer support since we baled them out of a bad finacial situation and now look at them. All I can say IS that the bail out was not worth it. We should have let them go under!
I received a call from the spokane city police regarding an engine fire in an unoccupied parked car that was registered in our name. The fire department had put the fire out and I was asked to tow it away. This was about 6:30 pm while my wife was at an event 4 blocks away. I drove there to meet the two truck to bring the car to our house where it IS at this time. I could see where the fire department had to break the drivers side window to open the hood where there was white residue everywhere. The paint on the hood had peeled due to the heat from the fire. There were no previous incidents like this to the car. this was a 1998 plymouth breeze. *tr
1998 plymouth breeze, was exiting ohio turnpike when it caught on fire. bf (ohio traffic report # 10-0637-91)*jb updated 12/10/10 *bf
Drove for approximately two miles, engine caught on fire, I put it out. *Tr
30 mph front end collision and the air bag did not deploy. *Tr
Vehicle was taken in for recall for ignition interlock, and was not repaired correctly. Told the service advisor the ignition interlock was inoperative. They installed the incorrect part, when according to the recall, if the interlock was inoperative, the shifter was to be replaced. They did not install the shifter, rather they installed the load limiting pushrod which did not remedy the failure of the interlock. *Tr
I was changing my oil on my 1998 plymouth breeze expresso on july 7TH 2009 around 7PM. I used the manufactured scissor jack and a jack stand to support the vehicle along with blocking off the tire. I was underneath the vehicle unscrewing the oil pan plug when the screw on the scissor jack gave out and the car fell on me nearly killing me. I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a crush injury. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the outside of the vehicle. the contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and noticed smoke coming from the front end, followed by flames underneath the hood. he extinguished the fire and the fire department arrived afterwards. prior to the failure, the contact heard a clicking noise coming from the engine. he sustained minor hand injuries. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and they stated that the engine was the cause of the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 116,000.
Smoke coming from engine compartment. source of smoke determined to be from power steering fluid leaking from high pressure hose onto exhaust manifold. Defect has been identified in nhtsa action no. Pe05036 for this model of car (1998 plymouth breeze, 2.4L engine), however, the resulting recall (06v001000) did not include this year model. the recall should be expanded to additional year models identified in nhtsa action no. Pe05036 or the manufacturer (daimlerchrysler corp) should replace hose determined to be leaking. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1998 plymouth breeze. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed and the top section was burned. there IS a recall for the fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump (nhtsa campaign ID number 06e088000); however, the contact had not verified if his vin was included. the current and failure mileages were 109,000.
I was driving down the interstate, I did not hit anything or drive over anything, and both my driver side and passenger airbags deployed. *jb
About a week ago my car started leaking oil, I brought it into the mechanics and was told it was the head gasket, it should not be leaking oil, there must be a defect, there should be a recall because it looks like there IS a lot more people with this problem, I want something done about this fast, because shouldn't have to pay a $1000 to get it fixed when it IS daimler chrysler fault. *Nm
I recently took my breeze in for an oil change and my mechanic told me I had an oil leak and that it was coming from the head gasket. At the same time he told me about a recall for the gear shift lever. I asked him to wait on the head gasket repair so I could talk to the dealer while I was having the gear shift lever repaired. When I brought up the leaking head gasket at the dealership, the mechanic gave a heavy sigh and shook his head. When I asked what that was for, he said that there was nothing he could do because it wasn't a recall problem. After doing some research on the internet I've found this to be quite a common problem due to a design flaw / manufacturing defect and I find it asinine that daimler-chrysler will neither take responsibility for nor admit any problem. *nm
I was driving to my sisters and was going towards a light , going to turn left and before I was able to do that the car went dead , the fuel pump went, the car just went dead and almost caused an accident, people peeping their horns, telling me to get off the road etc. I had to call a tow truck in the middle of the night. I brought it to a chrysler dealership and had the fuel pump and filter replaced, which cost me $663 and for a single mother I can not afford. *nm
Check engine light came on, p0700 & p0725 codes. There are related to transaxle problems. Transmission will, after about 30 miles of freeway driving, jerk slightly, then "check engine" light will come on. Transmission then shifts poorly, jerks and slams on down and up shifts. Trans will then go into limp mode, limiting speed to 45 mph max. Researched the problem online, there are 1000's of similar transaxle problems reported. So far, have changed trans fluid, twice. Last time cost was $150+. Replaced input and output trans sensors, input replaced twice. Cleaned all underhood grounds, reset computer by battery disconnect. Taken to independent shop, they said maybe crank position sensor or trans control computer. Took to dealer, they checked and found faulty input trans speed sensor. this car only has 63K miles, it should not be having this much powertrain trouble. So far spent about $700, still have the problem, as 1000's of other people. Many reports of hit and miss repairs, including solenoid packs, tcm replacements, and trans overhauls. This IS a known problem that has been experienced for years by 1000's of owners. This IS a poorly designed product, and chrysler should be held accountable. *jb
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler?s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, JX and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).the population number includes all mys.the precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.the fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever IS shorter).there are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi?s database, and dc has received no reports either.the prowler IS excluded from the recall scope.the investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.the interlock system IS required under fmvss 114.with the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.when this occurs, there IS no overt indication to an operator that the system IS defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator?s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.the rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.
