Remedy
Cardone will notify owners and offer to repurchase any defective master cylinders. the recall began during april 2007. owners can contact cardone at 1-800-777-4780.
On certain passenger vehicles, a combination of throttle positioning sensor irregularities, a dirty throttle housing, and/or inefficient software calibration may cause a warning lamp to light and the subsequent onset of limp home modes.

Dealers will install the current software upgrade onto the involved vehicles. the recall began on december 29, 2006. owners may contact volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
On certain passenger and sport utility vehicles, over an extended period of time, the headlight switch may cease to function.
Risk and remedy

The head lights may not operate properly which could result in intermittent or no headlight function. this could impair a driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
On vehicles with an original oem switch, dealers will replace the headlight switch. all other vehicles will be inspected to determine if the switch has een damaged and replace only if necessary. the recall began on january 24, 2005. owners should contact volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
On certain passenger and sport utility vehicles, under certain operating conditions, some electric cooling fans may overheat potentially causing heat damage and, in rare instances, a fire in the engine compartment.

I told the dealer that I was trying to pass smog, but the car had been driving very good in spite of the smog problem. They replaced everything that you can imagine at a cost of over 10,000 dollars which both of us spent in a two month period. But after they got it to pass smog I noticed another more serious problem, it would stop running in the middle of traffic. I told them about this new problem and they replaced the key and it still stopped on me 3 x on the freeway and streets. I returned the car going down the main streets for 2 hours and lift it with the company. Mckevitt volvo in san leandro ca. They wanted to charge me but I told them my are did not have this problem until they worked on it! I need a working car and I am in dept as a result of their work. I am a 65 year old retired teacher but I can't afford this dept. 11

The contact stated that he was rear ended at 45 mph and a volvo advertisement indicated that the vehicle was equipped with special seats to avoid serious injuries when a crash occurred. When the crash occurred the contacts head struck the steering wheel, broke the steering wheel, the head rest and the seat. The impact from the rear end collision caused the rear seats to be pushed closer towards the front and rear passenger seats. The impact also caused damage to the exterior of the vehicle including a crease in the roof of the vehicle in a v-shape. None of the air bags deployed; however, the contact was told that during a rear end crash the air bags do not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact was unconscious and another driver passing by called the ambulance on his behalf. The fireman advised the contact that although he was driving the vehicle they found him unconscious in the back seat. The contact sustained a broken nose, a deviated septum, a severe case of asthma, heart disease, and was completely incapacitated after the crash occurred. The T7 and T9 thoracic vertebrae were fractured. The crash had caused the contact to live with a traumatic brain injury. The manufacturer dispatched a technician to inspect the vehicle and advised the contact that there was nothing wrong the vehicle; however, he would not provide the contact, the insurance company or his attorney with copies of the report or photos taken during the investigation. A police report was filed. The vin was not provided. The current and failure mileage were 100,000.

My volvo V70 has been dying immediately after starting the engine and has progressively gotten worse over the last 6 months. have had two trips to a mechanic who repaired a few parts, but it didn't fix it. problem continues. recently, we were driving on the highway at about 65 mph and the car speed dropped to about 20 mph and couldn't go any faster and we had to pull over. this IS a major safety risk. now the car starts and immediately dies for about 4-5 times before it will start and continue running. there IS a whirring noise coming from the electronic throttle when it dies immediately. I took it to a volvo dealer and they said a recall for a software update was performed on my car in 2006 to lower the wear inside the throttle. then volvo issued a service campaign for the etm when it fails, but the campaign lasted until 200,000 miles or 10 years. so even though the car has only 94K miles and the recall software was installed only 25K miles ago, volvo won't replace a critical part to the safe operation of the vehicle because the 10 years have passed. so the dealer and volvo refused to replace this part even though the etm already had a recall and service campaign in the past. 2 actions to address a defective part, but volvo didn't fix the problem and I have a bad part in my volvo that IS unsafe. *js

August 8, 2012 I am sending this complaint concerning the service I received on a recall for a 2000 V-70 volvo, campaign# R115 ( vehicle speed ), nhtsa -campaign# o6v441000, action # eaq-5021. I scheduled an appointment with a volvo dealership. I went to the scheduled appointment and left my vehicle to be serviced. I was called from the dealership and was told my car was ready for me to pick up. After driving my vehicle for about 15 min max. It began unfortunately with the same symptoms I previously was experiencing. I called the service department where I apparently had my car serviced for repair and was told by the manager that I would be responsible for another diagnosis, and that it was probably something else, since the recall service was done I decided to call the: volvocars.us telephone #, @ 1-800-458-1552. I thought for sure, I would receive the support I needed . I did not. I was told once again, I was responsible for the repair. very upset, needless to say, I proceeded once again, and called the manager at the volvo dealership. I expressed once again, my concern with the service performed. In addition to the service, I had some questions concerning the service invoice . They have yet to be answered. I have adolescent children who are passengers in my vehicle everyday, and we would so appreciate!!! Our car serviced as it should be, please, this recall reads more than an upgrade. Apparently this upgrade was completed, I beg to differ. thank you for your time and consideration in this very concerning matter, as I look forward to hearing from your office. ABS module - IS known for causing loss of braking power, early brake pads wear and damaging transmission. front brake calipers - rust on calipers IS squeezing rubber boots around sliding pins. Damage to rotors, pads and wheel bearings. front lights low beams - unacceptable light output. front seat belts - are cutting into side trim and side trim IS cutting into seat belts. wind shield wipers - highest speed IS useless in heavy rain. cruise control - rpm surges while going 55mph and turning on the cruise control. do something! *tr

I own a 2000 volvo V70 with 130K miles and the car intermittently cuts off without warning and/or it has difficulty starting. this occurs several times a week. there are also times when I try to start the car, it does not have enough power to move forward, spits sputters, and then cuts off. The local dealership, volvo of charlotte, nc said it was the electronic throttle system (ets) and that my recall/replacement warranty ran out in february 2010. after notification of a problem existing in 2006/2007, I complied with the recall and the software upgraded shortly after the 2006 recall notice was received, but now volvo will not honor the issue with the faulty software upgrade or replace the ets module. when I contacted volvo USA, the representative said they have customers every day that are beyond the 200,000 mile or 10-YR in service date, and they won't help. for me to replace the module will cost more than $1,000. if the software and module are faulty, should they be responsible for replacing the units since they admit to manufacturing the car with the faulty component? cleaning the module does not work. *Tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 volvo V70 cross country. the contact IS currently experiencing difficulty starting the vehicle. while driving 60 mph, the throttle light illuminates intermittently. she received a safety recall notice for nhtsa campaign ID number 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). the recall repair was performed and the surging and stalling ceased for a short period of time; however, the failures have recurred. on july 18, 2008, the dealer stated that they would repair the ecm system if needed, but the contact would have to pay to have the vehicle diagnosed. the current and failure mileages were 140,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 volvo V70. the contact was attempting to brake when the vehicle surged forward and struck the preceding vehicle. at the time, she thought that the brakes failed. the contact learned of nhtsa recall number 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) after the crash. the vehicle sustained damages to the front end (hood bracket, hood hinge, marker light, front bumper cover, wiper blades, side lamps, grill, head lamps, hood and latch, and paint). the repair will cost $4,870.81, which includes the $500 insurance deductible. the cost of the rental vehicle was $390. the damages to the rear end of the other vehicle (1998 toyota forerunner) were the quarter panel, re-finish on the rear bumper, and a replaced passenger side rear bumper outer extension. the total repair cost was $563.22. the failure mileage was 98,590. updated 01/09/09. *lj updated 01/15/09. *Jb

On november 14, 2006 volvo submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning etm failures in model year (my) 1999 through 2001 volvo models (not including the S40 and V40), my 2002 S60 and V70 with naturally aspirated engines and my 2002 v70s.according to volvo, ?a combination of throttle positioning sensor irregularities, a dirty throttle housing and/or inefficient software calibration may cause a warning lamp to light and the subsequent onset of limp home modes.volvo further stated that,this resulted in a high number of these vehicles going into limp home mode without need.?volvo indicated that this was the most severe consequence of an etm fault in the subject vehicles.the recall remedy IS a software upgrade introduced by volvo on march 16, 2006 in a customer satisfaction program.at the time of the notification 161,202 vehicles of the population of 331,301 had already had the software uploaded and were therefore not included in the population count of the recall. Odi?s analysis of complaints to odi and volvo, volvo field reports and warranty data found that etm failure could result in (1) engine stall; (2) mechanical limp mode; (3) lunging forward during low-speed driving maneuvers; and (4) faltering during high speed merges or when crossing traffic.odi identified 12 crashes related to etm failure, with 6 caused by lunging incidents, 3 caused by stalling incidents, 2 caused by mechanical limp mode and 1 from the faltering condition.odi's analysis of complaint data and information obtained from consumer interviews identified 1,289 incidents with safety related consequences (389.1 per 100,000 vehicles), including 479 involving engine stall (144.6 per 100,000 vehicles) and 729 involving mechanical limp mode (220.0 per 100,000 vehicles).odi's analysis of warranty claim narrative text shows at least 14,965 warranty claims with codes indicating an etm fault resulting in vehicle operation in mechanical limp mode (4.5% of the subject vehicles). Volvo?s recall addresses odi?s safety concerns with etm failures.odi will continue to monitor the subject vehicles to determine if additional action IS required.this engineering analysis IS closed.

Pe05-041 was opened on july, 26, 2005, based on 136 consumer complaints to odi alleging throttle control malfunctions in the subject vehicles.odi has now received 591 complaints of etm failures which allege symptoms with potential safety related consequences.these include allegations of engine stall, vehicle surging forward without accelerator input, vehicle hesitation upon acceleration and sudden and unexpected transition into reduced performance operation (limp mode).volvo submitted over 2,900 complaints concerning the etm in the subject vehicles during pe05-041.odi's preliminary analysis of a sample the volvo complaints identified approximately 55 percent with one or more of the symptoms described above.odi IS continuing its assessment of the information contained in the volvo complaints. In november 2005, to resolve an investigation by the california air resources board, volvo announced that it would extend the warranty coverage to 10 years / 200,000 miles for the etm in approximately 356,000 model year 1999 through 2002 passenger cars sold in the united states and canada.under volvo's policy, vehicles that experience etm failures will receive a variety of repairs including etm cleaning, reprogramming the engine control module and/or replacement of the etm. This investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea05-021) to continue to assess the safety consequences of etm failures in the subject vehicles.

On august 23, 1999, volvo notified nhtsa that it would conduct a safety recall (99v235) on certain 1997 model year (my) 850 vehicles and certain 1998 s/v/c 70 series vehicles for failure of the headlight switch.the defect report stated in part: operation of the headlight switch, over an extended period of time, can result in inconsistent operation of the switch.volvo's remedy for this recall was to replace the headlight switch.this recall query investigation was opened on june 8, 2004, based on 13 reports of headlight failure on 1998 and 1999 s/v/c 70 series vehicles that were not included in the earlier recall.by letter of october 18, 2004, volvo has notified the agency that it will now conduct a safety recall of an additional 97,000 my 1998 through 2000 s70/v70/v70xc and C70 vehicles built from june 5, 1997 through january 11, 2000. Volvo dealers will replace the original equipment master light switch with one of an improved design. See safety recall 04v504 for details.

Swapping the Driver Information Module (DIM) is strictly forbidden as the DIM it is the main carrier of the odometer function, and will, in case of swapping, result in manipulated odometer value. - 10167887Technical Journal TITLE : The Error Frame Finder (EFF) can be an aid in fault tracing intermittent CAN network problems by providing a visible indication of error frames that are being transmitted on the network when the fault becomes active. The advantage of using the EFF function is that error frames are usually transmitted on the network before a vehicle symptom can occur. Hence, if the fault is very intermittent in nature, it may be possible, for example, to induce the wiring fault for a short duration by manipulating the vehicle harnesses and connectors. The electrical fault will occur and be detected by the EFF without ever having a vehicle symptom appear. The instructions for setting up the tool have been simplified.
