Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Pilot and Odyssey and 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX passenger vehicles manufactured from November 26, 2001, through August 30, 2006. The interlock lever of the ignition switch may deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated.
Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated shift interlock lever and, if necessary, replace any necessary part of the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on February 22, 2013. Honda IS recalling 2,032 hitch style bike racks sold as aftermarket for use on my 2003-2007 and some my 2008 honda pilot, ridgeline, and acura MDX vehicles. a pinch bolt exists between the bike arm bracket and the upright assembly of the "hitch" style bicycle rack.
When moving the bike arm bracket to its down position, this pinch bolt has the potential of causing severe laceration or amputation to the user's fingertips or hand.

I got in the drivers seat this morning and began to put my seatbelt on. I inserted the seat belt into the latch and it automatically came undone. I am able to insert in into the latch but once there is slight body movement or pressure, the seat belt unlatches and releases itself, leaving me unrestrained.
Airbag light has been lit for a while now for my 2004 Acura MDX. I originally took the car to Courtesy Acura for them to check what causing it. They told me that the sensor should be replaced and I paid $260+. After replacing sensor, the Airbag light still lit. They told me that they need to replace the front seatbelt buckles. One buckle (PART NO: 04813-S3V-A62ZC) arrived but the other one has been backordered for a while now (almost a year) and there's no ETA from American Honda on when the part (PART NO: 04816-S3V-A61ZC) will be available. This is a safety issue since the Airbag will not deploy in case of accident. Hope you guys can help me expedite the process and escalate the issue with American Honda. Thank you soo much!
I was in a parking mode and was leaving the parking lot. I reversed my car lo leave, and the car went out of control and was not until it crashed on two other parked cars that came to a stop. Then, After reversing my car, when trying to put it into drive, it would not move. When I tried to turn it off, the engine (re) started again and it worked so I could clear the path for other cars and wait until the police came. I had major maintenance at Acura Hopkins 2 and 3 years ago, I had a new steering pump and hoses changed 5 months ago and new front and rear brakes 3 months ago. Many people who are familiar with cars tell me that it was probably the rings. I don't know it may be the transmission? There was a police report as there were two other cars involved and both with severe damages. State Farm considered my car totaled despite the large amount of money spent to bring this car to almost new condition.
Sunday 2/42004 the car just shut off on me brakes stop working could turn could stop
Multiple lights appear turn on and off indicated on dashboard, VGA, check engine light, and tire pressure system. I run a diagnostics and it says my Evap System had a code telling me to replace gas cap. I went to the auto parts store and purchased a new gas cap that is specifically for my vehicle. I turn the vehicle back on and code is still on. So I get the code erased with my diagnostic reader and the sensor turns off. But give it a few weeks and that light turns back with same code telling me to replace gas cap. I went back to return my gas cap at AutoZone. Then ordered an OEM gas cap for my vehicle and erased code and then code came back less than a month later. It can’t be two brand new parts, one was a universal part but specific to my vehicle. And second part was OEM specifically for my vehicle and from Acura/Honda parts department. So I don’t know what to do because repair said its a dumb code and just reset if I already replaced once. And don’t worry about the code indicator because the Evap system appears to be working. So it’s either an electrical issue or a glitch. I’m not comfortable with those options
Was driving to the store and the vehicle lost all power it will crank and idle but. When u push the gas pedal it will not accelerate all the dash lights are flashing or staying on as of right now the vehicle is on the side of the road I had to walk 15 miles cause I left my phone at home so I couldn't call no one and. My 11 year old daughter was with me so she had to walk as well
TL* the contact owns a 2004 acura MDX. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, turning the vehicle when the driver in front suddenly stopped causing the contact to rear end the vehicle in front of them. The vehicle's passenger side air bag deployed out of it's compartment, however, the driver's seat air bag failed to deploy. The contact stated the vehicle was not towed. A police report was filed. The contact stated the passenger received injuries to their arms, knees, and face. Medical attention was needed. The contact stated they received injuries to their arm and knees, however, no medical assistance was needed. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle's driver side air bag deployed while remaining inside its' compartment and the seat belts have locked. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The contact had not contacted the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
While driving on the highway, the vehicle would apply brakes seconds before the vsa light and triangle light shows up. both lights will stay on until the engine IS shut off and restarted. this has occurred numerous times and getting louder and the braking much more pronounced. if roads are slippery the vehicle would skid. dealer first blamed it on some sensor fluid. After spending over $400 they now think its the yaw sensor. I strongly do not think they know how to fix it. this IS a safety issue. This problem started more than a year ago.
I discovered severe frame rust under my rear bumper cover. Large chunks of rusted metal are easily pulled off by hand. I'm concerned about the ability of the bumper/frame to prevent serious injury to my family in the event of a rear collision. The pictures I've submitted are at least three years old. I suspect the situation has deteriorated since then. These were the pics I submitted to acura at that time, when they informed me they could do nothing as my vehicle was out of warranty. I've since found reports of others with similar rust problems on their acura MDX as well as honda pilots, which I believe share the same frame assembly'
This vehicle has been scraped and IS no longer in service. please stop sending me notices. the title was surrendered to the salvage company.
I saw my car listed on the airbag recall on tv, I called and gave the lady my vin# she said it's not on the list ! She told me to ck this due and put my vin in so some one can let me know if there IS a recall for anything or any part.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 acura MDX. The contact stated that the navigation and back up camera screen were faulty. The back up camera screen remained blank and showed no footage. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to repair the vehicle on their own. The failure mileage was 16,0000.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 acura MDX. The contact stated that there was a three vehicle crash, while driving 25 mph, the first vehicle stopped suddenly causing a second vehicle to also stop after crashing into the first vehicle which then caused the contact to crash into the rear of the second vehicle. The air bag failed to deploy; however, the air bag warning light illuminated immediately after the crash occurred. the contact sustained chest, back and neck injuries but did not required medical attention. The other driver and front passenger sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. In addition, the contact stated that the driver and passenger front seats belts after the crash remained loose. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic to provide an estimate of the damage. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and it was not repaired. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v501000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Takata recall my airbags were replaced twice already through recall repair and the airbag sensor came back on last week, moment it came on I was in motion and the steering wheel I was not able to control the steering. This resulted in me side-swiping and object, hitting the curb and flattening my tire. There IS also another recall on my vehicle
The headlights fog over to the point of significantly diminishing effectiveness. the problem has been reported to the acura dealer who only offers to charge excessive amounts for a non-guaranteed solution and claims this IS not something they see in this car. however, it IS clear from regular daily driving that significant numbers of these cars suffer from this problem. the headlights have been cleaned as recommended in the instructions without success. this IS an ongoing problem from 2013 to current 2019.
The airbag light warning continues to come on and stay on. sometimes IS goes off, but comes back on later. this was reported to the dealer in charge of airbag recall and the only solution offered was paying a hefty fee to diagnose the issue without guarantee. this was reported in 2014 and has been an ongoing problem before this and currently, 2019.
Similar to a complaint from virginia in 2012 I had an issue with stuttering and a lack of acceleration and one day I stopped at a stop sign and my car shut off and when I turned it back on would not move from park and has not moved since I had it towed to my house
Hose connection failure between radiator and transmission cooler causing radiator fluid to mix with tranny fluid with no dash indicator of problem.. In motion lost power and would not move from 1ST gear. Broke down completely in need of transmission work and new coolant system due to hose connect failure.
Electrical short
Srs air bag light error code 61-10 for driver side seat buckle switch failure.
The seat warmer was on, and became o hot that it burned a hole through the padding and the leather, about 2 1/2 inches by 1 inch. Fuse IS removed, but now have no seat warmer on the driver side, and I am intimidated to have a passenger use the seat warmer on the passenger side. Photo attached.
Vehicle slips out of gear intermittently after deceleration, usually while driving in town (under 45 mph). Torque converter shudder or vibration between 35-40 mph.
Inadvertent braking, especially without illumination of the brake lights. After the braking due alone, the vsa light will be on. This IS the exactly same problem as the recall acura has made to acura MDX 2005/2006 (the name of this recall IS: vsa ecu malfunction. This problems happen like 2 time in the city streets, whit my hole family in the SUV for me.know I have to put the hole pedal down and just have any break.
Inside rear bumper, frame rusted through. Not surface rust but large chunks easily pulled off. Contacted acura. Was told it was out of warranty.
Takata recall.i have received a letter from the district court for the southern district of florida warning that my vehicle contains a defective or potentially defected airbag inflator and IS underecall.r
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE14-016 in June 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in Florida or Puerto Rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by Takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of PE14-016, ODI determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by Takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at ODI's insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492

On December 10, 2012, Honda Motor Company submitted a defect information report to NHTSA regarding ignition interlocks in approximately 576,117 model year MY) 2003 through 2004 Honda Pilot and Odyssey vehicles that are the subject of this investigation and 231,044 MY 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX vehicles (Recall No. 12V-573).Honda's report states that a design change to the ignition switch used in the recalled vehicles reduced the range of rotation for the ignition switch from 160 degrees in earlier designs to 125 degrees without a corresponding change to the ignition interlock blocking mechanism.The result was that excessive rotational force could damage a lever that would allow the driver to remove the ignition key that was in a position other than the Park position, which may allow the vehicle to roll away.ODI identified 176 complaints related to the alleged defect, including 48 roll away crashes.Threeof the incidents resulted in the following injuries to pedestrians:1) a broken foot and torn Achilles tendon; 2) a fractured fibula and crush injuries to a shin area; and 3) an incident requiring unspecified treatment at a hospital emergency room.This investigation is closed.The VOQs associated with this investigation are: 10486515, 10486393, 10486100, 10485010, 10482229, 10482091, 10481169, 10481105, 10481079, 10481027, 10480804, 10480648, 10480099, 10480009, 10479934, 10479695, 10479561, 10479517, 10479494, 10479484, 10479437, 10479421, 10479409, 10479343, 10478916, 10478876, 10478857, 10478845, 10478784, 10478776, 10478720, 10476767, 10473167, 10465590, 10463995, 10457825, 10452596, 10451185, 10448593, 10446962, 10440841, 10440040, 10439061, 10439033, 10438611, 10425909, 10403299, 10397920, 10395833, 10395298, 10379673, 10374724, 10365751, 10363501, 10361325, 10358480, 10355331, 10354680, 10354669, 10354390, 10353281, 10351899, 10351489, 10351240, 10349716, 10349612, 10348987, 10348955, 10348725, 10348579, 10348564, 10348429, 10348389, 10348268, 10348254, 10331474, 10325334, 10276072, 10179464.
