There is a paracytic battery drain causing new batteries to fail. Troubleshooting says Hands Free Link system may be reason for drain/ dead battery. Or, the Navigation system. There are endless electrical issues within 5 fuse boxes. I’ve done this manually, it’s slow. I know a diagnostic meter would help! So, I’ve installed a battery switch inside car. Must turn off each night! You’d think I’d have a mobile battery charger by now. But thankfully road side service has been a life saver. Although, I was not permitted to sign up for ERS with my insurance after so many battery calls for a year or more. AAA same! It’s ridiculous. Today, had to call ERS again. Ugh. Fortunately I’ve been reinstated. Its been slow-like-molasses-paced.. One fuse disconnected after another. This leaves the vehicle operating without the necessary compenents, helpful features. Examples: x miles per gallon of gas driving city/freeway. . The stereo system completely out, no back up camera, and no Navigation system. All disconnected fuses. No, I don’t have the resources to buy a diagnostic or pay a mechanic $200-300. I’ve been dealing with this nightmare for the last year++. Thankfully, YouTube shows 2006 Acura MDX, Touring series w this drain problem. A huge help! It’s an older car with 240K miles, needs 4 new tires, alignment, both headlamps replaced, . Plus, somehow the rear view mirror got unhooked, torn off, consequently, I’m without the rear back up view. It’s stupid, I realize. Looking at it in hind sight, yes, it’s ridiculous!

As I was driving in a parking lot, I went to apply my brakes as I am turning my car. The brakes felt hard all of a sudden even though I barely applied pressure. The break petal had a grinding sound and applied extreme pressure to break my car by itself. It felt as if my car was being thrown from side to side. This happened several times in parking lots. This has also happened about 3 times on the highway. While driving and going down a small hill on the highway I barely applied the break but the car break felt hard and weird as I barely pressed it. It felt and sounded like a grinding loud noise and cause my car to pull very hard to the right as if it was going to throw me off the highway. Thankfully each of those few times I was driving around 30 mph. Each occasion the vsa light came on and/or started blinking. I have taken my car to the gary force acura dealership in brentwood, tn on august 9, 2019. They proceeded to do breakdown of my car and told me I needed a new wiring harness and capacitor that would cost over $1500. They told me my car wasn't included in the recall that was issued on march 13, 2013. My vsa light continues to stay on and I still am experiencing these problems. I can not afford these parts for my car and feel that acura should include my vehicle in this recall. I fear for the safety of myself, my husband, and my 17 year old daughter as she has started driving and using our acura MDX 2006. Nhtsa recall 13v-092 mfr campaign ID S89 recall date 3/13/2013

On 3/9, I was parking my 2006 MDX in an indoor parking garage. About 15 feet from a wall, it took off real fast. I pressed harder on the brakes, but it slammed into the wall so hard. The air bag deployed, smoke came out & the alarm went off until a passerby disconnected the battery. I couldn't stand up for a few minutes. my insurance co. Decided it was totalled & had it towed to our house instead of a body shop, then only gave me its book value. I still have many bruises all over my body and my nose bled for a while and was swollen for a week. The seat belt cut into my neck and its impact left severe bruises on my chest. The impact made both my replaced knees bruise and hurt. I had lower back for many days. pohanka acura dealership told me this IS an acura company issue. Google didn't show any recalls on acura MDX accelerators. But, many people have had the same problem I had with their MDX. While braking, the car goes faster instead. on 3/11, and after many left messages to acura, acura finally called. I requested that someone will check the accelerator, B4 it was towed away. He said I needed to fix the car and bring it back to its original new state. After that, acura will then look at it and determine if the accelerator had issues. I'm very relieved I didn't die. I'm still not sure if I might develop any permanent physical problems from this accident. The shock, trauma and injuries were unnecessary. I'm also very glad I didn't kill anyone. I would never have been able to live with myself. I wasn't prepared to buy another car now. I was planning on keeping it for at least 2 more years. Besides losing my car, I was exposed to extreme danger, stress, fear and physical harm, because of the the negligence on acura's part. I hope this matter will be taken seriously and acura will stand behind its reputable name and fix the problem.

Acura a division of honda has know for many years now about a defective draw on the battery from the hands free bluetooth in this vehicle even when the vehicle IS shut off with the ignition key out of the ignition. I have read numerous complaints from the 2004 to 2012 models of all types of acura models. I have installed two new batteries in the last two years. Vehicle sets more than two days and the battery IS drawn down enough that vehicle not only not start, but you can't even get vehicle out of park position so you can be towed or pulled off the road safely unless you drag it locked up. And yes this has happened in a dangerous situation. What if you lose battery power for some reason going down the road? Very dangerous to you and others on the road. I think this should be a recall on acuras, honda as many years as this problem has persisted and as many types of vehicles that I'm hearing this problem IS being reported on. I also have read one article about a class action lawsuit against honda motor company for this very problem from a individual in the state of california. Its time in my humble opinion that acura - honda motors own up to this mistake when when it goes back so far and so many types of vehicles with this issue.

Re: american honda failed to replace unsafe airbag and refuses to take any responsibilities on july 9, 2016, we took our 06' acura MDX to local dealer for the unsafe passenger side airbag replacement (nhtsa recall 16v-334). the dealer informed us that they couldn't replace the airbag due to an unknown wiring obstructing the airbag (exhibits a, b). they wanted to cut the wiring for airbag replacement. however, they will not take any responsibility if something goes wrong. we refused their idea of cutting the unknown wire, because it makes no senses when no one knows the outcomes IS going to affect vehicle safety or functionality. we are the original owners and to our best knowledge no one has ever serviced the passenger side airbag. thus, it IS reasonable to suspect this might be a rare defect. we contacted honda to explain this unusual situation, received a case #04828622; we sent an email with all the details (exhibits c). we had been waiting and following up, but honda made no progress until we expressed our extreme anger after one year of anxious waiting. finally, our case has been assigned to a representative at 'airbag recall department' around july, 2017. however, this has been playing the game of 'this airbag recall did not exist last year', 'not returning phone call as she promised', and 'sending a nonsense letter to confirm that our airbag IS unsafe!'. eventually, we have gotten very frustrated and also being worry about our own safety with the dangerously defected airbag. we took the 06' acura MDX to the dealer again; however, acura dealer wants almost $300 for trying to figure out why they couldn't replace the airbag without any guarantee of replacing the unsafe airbag! we hope nhtsa would immediately start to investigate this case, and american honda should be severely punished due to their egregious conducts.

The front passenger side fender of the contact's vehicle and the rear tailgate of the other vehicle were damaged. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (myers), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The body damage of the contact's vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 12v573000 (electrical system). The contact notified the manufacturer and was informed that there was nothing they could do since a diagnostic test was done and the technician could not find the cause of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

The SUV was just brought in for a judder from the front end to the local acura/ honda in town where we reside and they claim its the torque converter IS failing well after some research we noticed there was recalls and a class action suit for this problem. I am just making this complaint because the dealer states we have to pay 5000 dollars to have it replaced. I feel we should be either given a discount or they should cover the cost due to it being an ongoing thing with probably thousands of these acura MDX . I have seen lots of forums where they pay 75% of cost for some and 100% for others but not after the dealers try to get out of paying for it. Most of them like this one have already had the problem and had it fixed if not once several times. This IS a safety issue because I know that a torque converter can lock up and in a AWD vehicle that would most certainly cause an accident. I have young children and all the dealer says IS to keep having the transmission fluid changed or pay 5000 to replace the transmission. I also have a honda accord that had recalls for exploding airbags and it took months for them to finally get it in for the recalls. The acura MDX also says by the vin on acura.com it has 4 recalls but they say at the dealer it doesnt. I have seen and spoke with many people who are victims of these billion dollar companies, acura that have all the same issues . Every time we go to have an issue looked at or addressed they try to have us have other irrelevant issues fixed instead of the life threatening ones or safety recalls taking care of. Please someone help.

My MDX vsa randomly came on while driving down interstate 65 in nashville causing me to have to pull off to the side of the road. While researching this issue only certain vehicles have been included in a vsa recall and unfortunately mine IS not one of them. The entire vsa system in these vehicles needs to be recalled to make these vehicles safe.

- Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant…
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE14-016 in June 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in Florida or Puerto Rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by Takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of PE14-016, ODI determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by Takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at ODI's insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492

- Vehicle Stability Assist Malfunction
On March 14, 2013, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA identifying a defect in the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system in approximately 183,576 model year (MY) 2005 Honda Pilot, Acura RL and MY 2005-2006 Acura MDX vehicles (NHTSA Recall No 13V-092).The population and…
On March 14, 2013, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA identifying a defect in the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system in approximately 183,576 model year (MY) 2005 Honda Pilot, Acura RL and MY 2005-2006 Acura MDX vehicles (NHTSA Recall No 13V-092).The population and failure counts provided pertain only to the MY 2005 Honda Pilots that were the subject of this investigation.Honda's recall addresses two conditions in the VSA system that could result in inappropriate brake activation. The first condition is related to a manufacturing concern with a capacitor in the VSA electronic control unit (ECU) circuit board.According to Honda, VSA systems with damaged capacitors may apply a small amount of braking force for a fraction of a second, when the brake pedal is not applied by the driver. If the driver does apply the brake pedal during a malfunction, the VSA system may employ the brake assist feature rapidly increasing braking force independent of the amount of pressure the driver applies to the brake pedal (releasing the brake pedal would end the brake assist activation in such events). The second condition applied to a portion of the MY 2005 Pilot vehicles manufactured at the Alabama assembly plant that may havebeen assembled without tightening one of the VSA system electrical ground connector fasteners to the proper torque.According to Honda, an improperly torqued fastener can result in increased electrical resistance in the VSA system, causing an incorrect signal to be sent to the VSA ECU, which may result in inappropriate braking while driving with no pedal application by the driver. The owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer who will install a partial wiring harness containing a capacitor for the VSA modulator and, if necessary, inspect and tighten the affected electrical ground fastener. All work will be performed at no charge to the owner.ODI identified 106 incidents of inappropriate brake activation by the VSA system that appear to be related to the defect conditions addressed by Honda's recall. While many of the incidents reported experiencing significant unexpected braking while driving, none resulted in crashes or injuries.ODI reviewed a VOQ reporting a crash resulting in two fatalities that allegedly may have been related to the VSA conditions investigated in PE12-028 and EA13-002 (VOQ 10492170).After interviewing thecomplainant and reviewing evidence regarding the crash (e.g., police report and witness statements), ODI did not find sufficient evidence to determine that the crash was related to the VSA system.Regarding the 25 incidents of brake activations of short duration due to a yaw rate sensor malfunction, complainants indicate that typically the events are very brief and that the puling effect is mild. This investigation is closed.
- Ignition Interlock Failure - Rollaway

On December 10, 2012, Honda Motor Company submitted a defect information report to NHTSA regarding ignition interlocks in approximately 576,117 model year MY) 2003 through 2004 Honda Pilot and Odyssey vehicles that are the subject of this investigation and 231,044 MY 2003 through 2006 Acura MDX vehicles (Recall No. 12V-573).Honda's report states that a design change to the ignition switch used in the recalled vehicles reduced the range of rotation for the ignition switch from 160 degrees in earlier designs to 125 degrees without a corresponding change to the ignition interlock blocking mechanism.The result was that excessive rotational force could damage a lever that would allow the driver to remove the ignition key that was in a position other than the Park position, which may allow the vehicle to roll away.ODI identified 176 complaints related to the alleged defect, including 48 roll away crashes.Threeof the incidents resulted in the following injuries to pedestrians:1) a broken foot and torn Achilles tendon; 2) a fractured fibula and crush injuries to a shin area; and 3) an incident requiring unspecified treatment at a hospital emergency room.This investigation is closed.The VOQs associated with this investigation are: 10486515, 10486393, 10486100, 10485010, 10482229, 10482091, 10481169, 10481105, 10481079, 10481027, 10480804, 10480648, 10480099, 10480009, 10479934, 10479695, 10479561, 10479517, 10479494, 10479484, 10479437, 10479421, 10479409, 10479343, 10478916, 10478876, 10478857, 10478845, 10478784, 10478776, 10478720, 10476767, 10473167, 10465590, 10463995, 10457825, 10452596, 10451185, 10448593, 10446962, 10440841, 10440040, 10439061, 10439033, 10438611, 10425909, 10403299, 10397920, 10395833, 10395298, 10379673, 10374724, 10365751, 10363501, 10361325, 10358480, 10355331, 10354680, 10354669, 10354390, 10353281, 10351899, 10351489, 10351240, 10349716, 10349612, 10348987, 10348955, 10348725, 10348579, 10348564, 10348429, 10348389, 10348268, 10348254, 10331474, 10325334, 10276072, 10179464.
