Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer 360. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
Low headlights (both) are off continuually. High beams are ok, no matter which position dash headlight switch IS in. High beams come on with steering column control, but not low beams. Replaced relays and fuses although originals checked ok.. Removed each headlight nacell assembly and checked each light individually with separate source 12V. All ok. Meter checked hi-lo headlight plug, 12V ok on hi wires, no voltage on lo wires. Problem exist whether car IS running or not. I am stumped!
TL* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer 360. While driving approximtaley 25 mph at night, the low beam and high beam headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and parked at a safe location until the next day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the headlamp driver module was replaced. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v519000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
Shortly after christmas 2015, while driving on a city street the red light on the gas guage came on and the gauge showed empty. Having just filled the tank earlier that day I thought the gas had been stolen. I pulled into a station to refill but it was still full. For the next five weeks the check engine light was on and the gauge only worked occasionally. It wasn't a dangerous situation but after a few weeks of guessing how much gas was in it, I took it to a repairman who replaced the fuel pump module assembly for a mere $767.04. The odometer IS only at 47,760.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer 360. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph during night, the headlamps failed to illuminate intermittently. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlamp drive module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v519000 (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 115,306.
Headlight fail - they intermittently turn off by themselves while driving and eventually turn back on. this happens very often and I am very afraid of my safety and also of my family.
Low beam headlights will not work. only high beams. began intermittently but now will not work on low beams at all. took to dealership and was told this was not listed under the recall however it IS the exact problem.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer 360. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced by an independent mechanic, the front driver side door suddenly caught fire. A police report was not filed. The contact extinguished the fire and there were no injuries. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v599000 (visibility). The contact mentioned that the vehicle was repaired by another independent mechanic for the same failure under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,059. updated 04/14/16*lj *js
TL* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer 360. While driving 55 mph, the headlights and instrument panel became inoperable without warning. The vehicle was restarted and the headlights and instrument panel were operable; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000. updated 11/19/15*lj
Started the trailblazer and headlights would not come on.. Tried automatic and manual. we turn the trailblazer off and on a couple times and finally got it to come on maunual. one week later was coming home on a 4 lane and my healights just went off. luckey I was able to get off road and turn flashers on. turn trailblazer on and off, the headlights on and off but they didnt come on . Turn automatic lights off and turn high beams on that IS how I had to drive home. I tested my lowbeams on and off coming home. The would go in and out.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet trailblazer 360. While the vehicle was stopped at a red light, the driver side window began to independently roll down without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions while the vehicle was occupied or parked without the key in the ignition. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v248000 (electrical system, visibility). The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. updated 09/11/15*lj updated 11/07/2017*cn
Upon entering vehicle to leave a parking lot at night, discovered the headlights wouldn't work (still not working). the fuses are not out. tried replacing the headlight switch box, but that didn't fix the problem so put the original back on the vehicle. everything else in the vehicle seems to be working fine. discovered an online report stating a problem found on this vehicle, "headlamp driver module failure," gm recall number 14291; however, can't find anything since with regard to a solution via gm. called the chevy number, 1 800 222 1020, but informed that nothing found for our vin number. looked online with our vin number also, but nothing IS listed for this issue. cannot drive the vehicle at night now or safely in a rainy weather situation, etc. will contact our local gm dealer to see if we can get this situation taken care of, but decided we should send this email as well.
I was trying to roll down the windows for my wife. The windows would not roll down at first. I checked to make sure that the window was not lock and it wasn't. After a few minutes the window finally rolled. Down. This has happened on several occasions.
I was going down the highway and all of a sudden my headlights cut off. I turned the vehicle off and pulled some of the fuses and put them back in. The lights came back on later. We continued down the road to our destination and the lights went out again. We ended up having to get a hotel room for the night until we could drive home during the daylight hours.
Heard a ticking sound in engine compartment checked , found broken bolt on right side exhaust manifold. It seems to be a common problem with v 8 engines.
I was driving home one night about an hour after dark. As I was driving about 45 mph, my headlights just completely went out without warning. After carefully pulling off to the side of the road I realized my high beams were still working. I looked into this issue and realized it was a relay 45 and 46 issue. The next day I replaced this relay and my lights worked. For a day. Now it's been almost a month, and I can't drive after dark. I've asked my local gm dealership to look into this and they told me there was a recall but yet they don't have a resolution. Being I work until the sun goes down, and I have an hour drive home from work 5-6 days a week, this presents a major problem for me. If this were a simple window switch recall (which I've already had replaced) I would be ok with it for now. Unfortunately this IS a lighting issue which can be and IS a very serious issue. I need this issue resolved immidiatly and if the dealership can't fix it, I don't know how I would be expected to. *tr
I was driving home from a wedding on the interstate at 55 mph, and my headlamps failed. Everything went completely dark. After a panic, I was able to turn on my high beams, and they worked properly. I had to drive the rest of the way home with my high beams on for safety, blinding oncoming drivers. When I got home, I tested my fog lights, and they worked properly. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes, and turned it back on. The low beam headlamps worked then. since the first incident, I have had approximately 10-15 other incidents of the same occurrence. I was positive that my vehicle was included in the recent recall, but when I called my local dealer, I was advised that my vin number was not included. I don't understand, since the issue on the recall IS exactly the issue that I am dealing with. I have had to limit my use of the vehicle at night for fear that the headlamps will fail. Side note - they have failed at night twice in the last week alone. Generally what I have to do IS pull over on the side of the road (scary) and turn the car off, wait, and try them again. *tr
I have a problem with the general motors (gm) IS recall that involves the ddm on my trailblazer. Gm says its not involved in the recall but they have 1 already changed it under warranty on 3/29/2013 (recall) and again at 6/07/2013 and its again failing why are they not responsible to replace this defective part?? *tr
Driving down the road the head lamps would just go off. I would still have high beams however the lights would flicker and then come back on. They were checked and no loose connections were found but they would always come back on. Fast forward to about a month ago, I was driving home in the dark again and the lights went off but this time they did not come back on. They have been out and have not come back on since. I still have high beams but no low beams. thank you *tr
Dash warning lights all go on with warning bell. *tr
I am a disabled 62 years old lady and I have a trailblazer 2007. About 2 month the gasoline gauge was showing empty all the time, I took the car to the dealer and they told me that they know there IS a problem with the gauge but gm only going to pay a portion of the repair. I have to pay 139.00 of my pocket. I ask the reason it IS a recall. One the attendant said the if recognize that was a recall they have the reputation of the trailblazer was going to be damage. Yesterday I was going to my doctor and the car run out of gas because I did not know my son used the car the night before. I am writing this from my comp at the hospital. I walked 1 mile with 98 degrees because they do not what the reputation of the trailblazer IS going to be affected. All of a sudden everything on the drivers door switch went dead, then I noticed and smelt smoke coming from the drivers door power window switch. I removed the switches and opened up the plastic casing and saw the circuit board completely burnt. *tr
Failure of the passenger side window while driving in frigid weather. Almost causing a major accident. Contacts and phone consultations with gm customer service and their regional representative for albuquerque, new mexico led nowhere. Gm's regional rep--named eileen, tel. 866-790-5700 ext 41068--was unconcerned about this chronic, documented safety hazard on the trailblazer. Power window and other electrical failures are known to be common to the trailblazer. Gm at first suggested they may pick up part of the repair costs, then refused despite acknowledging that this was a common problem with this vehicle. They are unconcerned about my wife being put in severe danger while driving on the highway on a frigid night. We have had multiple electrical failures common to this unsafe vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *Tr
The mentioned fuel level sensor in this vehicle (and from research other earlier models) fails or wears out prematurely. The wear could cause the fuel gauge to read empty after filling the tank and cause the service engine and low fuel lights to illuminate. Chevrolet has acknowledged this occurs in the vehicles but has not issued a recall to fix the problem. Instead they have sent a letter of acknowledgement advising the customers to have the issue repaired and they will reimburse half the cost of the repair. not knowing when your fuel IS low presents a dangerous scenario for the drivers of these vehicles. It can run out of gas while driving in a speedway / highway where lives would be at risk. Chevrolet should recall all the vehicles exhibiting this problem as soon as possible and avoid future lawsuits and or criminal charges for not addressing an issue they admit IS a fault in their vehicles. *tr
Son was involved in a motor vehicle accident in which he hit a cement truck head on and the vehicle airbags did not deploy. the entire front end of the vehicle was damaged (smashed in) and the vehicle subsequently totaled out. as per gm this type of crash would not have created a deployment of the airbag however; my son cracked the front windshield when his head hit it at impact with the truck and again, the entire front end of the vehicle was smashed. if this type of impact doesn't create an airbag deployment I am not quite sure what does? *kb
The fuel level sensor IS notorious for failing on these vehicles. Chevy has started a campaign to pay for half the cost of the repair. While I'm sure gm thinks this IS a fair offer on their behalf, it does not go far enough. This IS a safety issue not an inconvenience. Running out of fuel because you don't know how much IS in your tank can create a very dangerous situation. Gm describes this part as a wear item. No. Brake pads wear out. Wiper blades wear out. batteries die. When was the last time you checked the fuel level sensor in your gas tank? What's going on with this particular part IS called failure. This needs to be a recall by gm. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation on February 9, 2012 in response to complaints alleging driver door module melting and/or burning in MY 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazers. In response to ODI's Information Request letter, General Motors presented 167 reports and 698 warranty claims that related to the alleged problem. ODI has received a total of 83 complaints, 66 alleging the door module had melted or burned, and the remaining 17 stating that the window switches acted erratically or were inoperative. Twenty-eight of the reports received have led to driver door fires, some of which allege the vehicle was keyed off and unattended. Based on the agency's current analysis, ODI has upgraded its investigation to an Engineering Analysis (EA12-004) to determine whether the subject vehicles contain a defect that presents an unreasonable risk to safety.The vehicle models and production dates of affected vehicles will be evaluated, particularly other GMT360 vehicles. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification (ODI) numbers: 10247838, 10260600, 10274337, 10275626, 10284010, 10396958, 10406203, 10409023, 10414691, 10417938, 10423865, 10426281, 10434446, 10445657, 10447754, 10447757, 10447770, 10447788, 10447813, 10447831, 10447865, 10447880, 10447892, 10447938, 10447994, 10447996, 10447997, 10448028, 10448086, 10448138, 10448176, 10448201, 10448337, 10448455, 10448464, 10448478, 10448540, 10448900, 10448941, 10449150, 10449166, 10449169, 10449236, 10449722, 10450055, 10450202, 10450284, 10451584, 10451878, 10451918, 10452197, 10452301, 10452586, 10452743, 10452895, 10453161, 10453227, 10453261, 10453578, 10453746, 10453951, 10454196, 10454211, 10454539, 10454673, 10455122, 10455150, 10455279, 10455469, 10456285, 10456529, 10457116, 10457644, 10457811, 10458224, 10458485, 10458599, 10458743, 10458846, 10460062, 10460141, 10460732, 10460843
The office of defects investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by General Motors (GM) as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 5,089 unique reports indicating an inaccurate fuel level reading while driving.General Motors stated that this condition occurs when the contacts of the fuel sensor wear prematurely. Most of the complaints indicated an empty fuel gauge reading after filling the tank.Less than 10 percent of theODI complaints involved an engine stall incident.During this investigation, GM developed a remedy procedure and issued special coverage bulletin instructing dealers to install a new design fuel level sensor. The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2011 and the owner letter mailing began on August 15, 2011.See the investigative file for copies of GM's bulletin and owner letter. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
The Office of Defects Investigation has received 668 complaints alleging inaccurate fuel gauge reading while driving in model year 2005-07 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, and Saab 9-7x vehicles.Of the 668 complaints, 58 incidents were alleged to result in a vehicle stall.Of the 58 stalling incidents, 43 complaints reported stalling because the fuel level reading indicated more fuel availability than what is actually in the fuel tank. One complaint alleged a vehicle crash after the vehicle stalled while exiting the interstate, became disabled, and was struck from behind.Summarily, the complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with most complaints received within the past year.A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences associated with the alleged defect.
