TL* the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. When the contact entered the vehicle, a fuel odor was detected. The contact lifted the hood and noticed the odor as well as fuel leaking from under the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that a new manifold needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.
I own an auto repair shop and I have seen this problem on these vehicles more than once and cannot figure out how dodge IS getting away with not recalling these vehicles for a fuel leak on the pressure line at the back of the engine. It has a steel line that comes from the tank up to the engine and the last approx. 8 inches turns to plastic. The plastic part cracks after time and it sprays fuel onto the exhaust system which seems to me that should fall under a recall. If you search the internet you will see this IS an ongoing problem with these vehicles for several years. The vehicle I have here came in doing this and I couldn't find any recall for this problem. I do believe this should be addressed as it could very easily catch fire. Thank you for your time
Car won't go into park. Has to be started in neutral. Car has tendency to roll. Wheel(s) has to be blocked. stationary.
As I sat in my car to drive, the driver's seat leaned back unexpectedly. it can not be raised. I have a bucket and box behind the seat to hold it in place, but it IS still not in an upright position. this IS a safety issue.
Takata recall

The car was driven into the driveway and put the car in park. He got of the car and opened the gate. at that time, the vehicle slipped out of park and began rolling down the driveway. it hit the curb, then a small tree on the front lawn of the house across the street and finally came to rest on the front stoop of the said house. *tr

Every time I go to slow down I stall. I have taken it in to be serviced. I'm not sure what part they changed but it's still doing it. I'm afraid to drive the car. I bought it because I was told it was a good family car. I can't even see my grand kids I'm to afraid to drive it. When I say it stall all the time I live 13 miles from work and I will stall 6 times before I get there. *tr
I was grocery shopping and when I got in the car to go home there was a clunk noise and I was reclining in the drivers seat. I could not upright the seat so it would stay in place. I put the seat belt on and held down the console and made it home scared but safe.i looked under the seat and found a bolt broken off. I did receive a recall notice for the bolts some time ago and took the car to the local dodge dealer. I assumed the problem was fixed although I had not had a problem until today. Can I go back to dodge to have it fixed? Obviously it wad either not replaced or I got a faulty bolt. Please help. *tr
As I was driving along and approached my exit, the steering wheel locked up and would not allow me to control the car. I was able to stop the car safely hitting some brush on the side of the road. no damage or injuries were incurred, but this was very frightening! now, the steering IS still getting stuck on turns and I have no horn! the airbag light IS now showing and I don't know whats going on with this car! something needs to be done. no warnings, or recalls have been made, and there a many concerns of others going through the same issue with this car. please advise on what IS going to be done about this problem before someone gets killed! *js
My 2000 intrepid s engine blew up 2 years ago and again 2days ago there was no warning. Master cylinder IS failing and the steering pin broke in the car and left me helpless I ended up in a ditch. I called dodge and they said they couldn't help because it was out of warranty past 7 years and its only been 2. *js
TL* the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph into a parking space, the engine stalled without warning. Upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normal function. The failure recurred twelve times. In addition, whenever accessing the exterior front and rear passenger locked power doors, they failed to release open with the key fob. The failure recurred twelve times. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000. The vin was unavailable.
Vehicle has excessive play in steering which causes car to wander while driving, especially at higher speeds. Requires constant adjusting while driving this car IS unsafe and makes me a little leary about driving it at all. This seems to be a big promblem with this vehicle and I wonder why the dept. Of transportation and highway safety hasn't done anything about it! *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times, with the illumination of the check engine oil warning light. The timing belt also failed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the O2 sensor, oil switch relay and the cam shaft position sensor. The failure was not corrected and the vehicle could not be driven. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage as 59,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. the contact stated that while having a routine oil changed performed, the mechanic advised the contact that the oil was too thick to be released from the vehicle. The mechanic advised that the oil pump failed and was causing a backup of oil within the vehicle. The mechanic advised that the vehicle should be parked until it was repaired due to the possibility of severe stalling. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 181,253.
Timing chain went do to sludge build up had to replace engine. *tr
Car was maintained immaculately, 3 weeks before the doa date, there was a very faint ticking sound (like a roulette wheel spinning "click" sound) coming from under the hood. Took the car to the mechanic to have the oil changed and have the cars new noise checked. He said it could be a lifter ticking and the oil change solved the problem. He was correct about the sound muting however the issue may be the tiny oil port holes in these mitsubishi made mopar engines. On the day of the engines death it made the same ticking sound, my cue that I could share with anyone about to have this failure occur, when I would start the car I noticed an extra "spinning" sound under the hood when I would start the car. It IS minor so listen close to your start-up. The ticking got louder and eventually at a stop light on the way to the mechanic the car stopped and would not run. Do an internet search for dodge intrepid 2000 2.7 liter motor you will find a horror show on the internet. Loved the car while it worked but the death was too premature, I only drive about 8,000 miles per year. *tr
While backing out of a parking stall, front drivers side wheel lower control arm broke free from engine cradle resulting in total immobilization of vehicle. Upon inspection it was obvious that the mounting bracket which IS welded to the engine cradle frame had rusted out causing failure. Similar failures on older models have had nhtsa recalls, see nhtsa campaign ID # 99v215000, issued due to loss of power or control resulting in a potentially life threatening condition. It IS understandable for wear parts such as brakes, shocks and suspension joints to fail due to use and mileage but frame members should be made solid and the responsibility of the auto manufacturer to ensure long term reliability.
Driving vehicle on exit 73 in lisbon,md. When acceleration halts and car will not accelerate over 60mph and was steadily decreasing. As I pulled off the exit, the car stalled and the battery light came on, then the engine light and then the transmission light, proceeding was all lights in the car blacked out and the car was only drifting off the exit. As the car stopped and I put it in park, I noticed black smoke and fire submerging in the front of the car with force. I then heard a pop to realize my tires popped from the burning heat of the fire. I exited the vehicle with nothing in tow and in fear of my life in addition to my passenger whom we both left valuable items in the burning car. This seems to fall under a form of defect in which I would like to have investigated and a claim filed as this was a very traumatic experience which I would not want to happen to anyone else. Tl*the contact owns a 2000 dodge intrepid. The contact stated that the rod malfunctioned in the engine. There was a ticking sound within the engine for two weeks prior to the failure. The contact stated that there were no leaks coming from the engine prior to the failure. The contact was told by a mechanic that this was a common problem with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 122000.
My oil light would blink on and off when I was stopped at a red light. the car only has 102,000 miles on it and the engine started to knock really loud. I have taken it to a garage to see about getting it fixed but will need a new engine. with what I still owe on the car and the price of these engines (they are hard to find because so many people have needed to replace them) it IS not even worth getting fixed at this point. *Tr
