On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. an inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.

Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
Remedy
Dealers will install a new load-limiting push rod into the floor shifter lever of the affected vehicles. owner notification began on june 14, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. the lower control arm attaching brackets can crack due to fatigue and separate from the engine cradle.

If this occurs, the transmission half-shaft could pull out of the transaxle and result in loss of power.
Remedy
Dealers will reinforce the engine cradle at the point where the lower control arm attaches to it.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5L engines. the fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.

Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. however, if a vehicle IS leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.3L engines. the 'o-rings' used to seal the interface of the fuel injector rail supply, return and cross over tubes are not as robust as those used in later model years. deterioration of the 'o-rings' can cause fuel leakage.

The front suspension lower control arm tension strut washers can crack and fall off due to hydrogen embrittlement.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Loss of a washer will cause a clunking sound, heardduring braking. If left unattended, the loss of the washer will eventuallyresult in tension strut attachment failure that can result in loss of steeringcontrol and an accident.
Remedy
Replace the front and rear strut bar washers and nuts.

The engine cuts off for a few seconds while driving at high speeds (60 mph). the vehicle lurches as a result. luckily, the engine starts up again without needing to crank and the vehicle proceeds. on one occasion, when driving at slower speed (25 mph), the vehicle stalled. Campaigns 98v184000 and 98v130000 concern fuel leakage on the 1993 eagle vision. on may 13, 1999 the o rings were replaced on my eagle by the previous owner. on march 31, 2000, after purchasing the car I had to take my care in to a garage due to the strong smell of gasoline. the repair shop found a gas leak. they replaced the fuel rail gasket which cost a total of $214.02. I believe the cause of this problem was caused by the leakage of the o rings. the replacement of the fuel rail gasket should be covered under campaign no. 98v130000. I am requesting reimbursement for the $214.02. also, I would like to know if there IS anything alse I should do to make the car safer such as having the engine fuel rail replaced, which it appears wasn't done when the o rings were replaced by the previous owner.

I have gone to 3 paint shops. all three have told me it IS caused by a defect in the clear coat and have told me I should contact the manufacture. who do I contact since eagle was bought out in regards to this problem.

Amendment to nhtsa odi complaint number 10066149. fuel rail/injection system fuel line o-ring leak. Reference nhtsa 98v184000/chrysler recall 790. 1) 1 incident of recall notice and attempted recall service. after recall service performed on march 18 1999 there were 2 incidents of fuel rail/o-ring leak confirmed as follows: 2) right (passenger) side fuel rail cracked and leaked (october 17 2002) 3) left (driver) side fuel inlet line o-ring failed and leaked (april 13 2004). Customer was made to pay for repairs of 3RD incident for $583.00 to replace entire fuel rail assembly chrysler part number 5015231aa. inspection of parts returned to customer show that fuel inlet o-ring IS defective (hardened and shrunken) and IS black in color (recall replacement o-ring IS supposed to be blue in color). it has been confirmed that 2ND incident of fuel leak was due to recall service repair of march 18 1999 not properly performed as fuel inlet o-ring was never replaced (village motors chelsea mi-mechanic mistake). It should also be noted that recall service procedure to "reinforce right (passenger) side fuel rail did not prevent fuel leak incident of october 17 2002. customer IS seeking reimbursement for $583.00 from chrysler due to improper recall service of defective o-ring. nhtsa assistance would be appreciated.

For many years I have been baffeld with a clunking noise in the front end of my car. I have replaced the entire front. These are the parts I have replaced both lower control arms, both iner and outer tierods, both upper strut mounts/struts, stabilizer bar links, both driveshafts, both font wheel bearings. Upon closer inspection as a last resort looked at the rack and pinion unit and discovered that the crossmember that the rack and pinion unit IS mounted to IS moving when I turn the steering wheel to the left and the right. It's my greatast fear that the crossmember that the rack and pinion IS mounted to will break away from the body of the car, resulting in a loss of steering causing a potential accident or worse a loss of life. The crossmember IS the foundation point or platform where the rack and pinion IS mounted to. This crossmember should be a reliable and safe mounting point for the life of the car. *Ak

I bought this car in 1998 and have had to fix it myself many times. I cannot afford to pay someone to fix it. But if there has ever been a lemon it IS this car. I have to say the motor IS a good one. But every thing surrounding it IS junk. At this time it IS in my moms garage and I'm still making payments on it and can't even drive it. right now it needs: 1.) timing belt 2.) wiring problem under dash-dome lights on all the time, a/c controls won't work properly. 3.) inner tie rods need replaced again-(4th time) 4.) spark plug wires go bad in about 12 months.(the good ones). 5.) tires are going bad every 6 months because of tierods. 6,) parking brake cable broke. 7.) catalytic converter. 8.) fuel rail o-rings need replaced. when it was running it was constantly dying on me while driving and while idling, and finally the other day (after replaceing the coil pack and an ignition relay) it died and wouln't restart at all.........................what can or will you do about this lemon that I have had to constantly fix for the whole 4 years that I have owned the car//????????????????

Towed to a mechanic. Mechanic stated that vehicle could have caught on fire. Also, dealer may have pinched a gas line during the recall, and that caused stalling and gas shooting out.*ak consumer stated it IS not a gas line that may not have been pinched, but maybe the o-ring, when the vehicle was taken to the mechanic, consumer was informed that the vehicle was out of gas and the problem was the intake gasket, oxygen inserts, egr valve and plugs, consumer stated that the vehicle contained gas, the mechanic informed consumer that the gas gauge was wrong, consumer states the vehicle was running fine until the recall was performed.*jb

Robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle IS being towed.mr. Galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this IS still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler?s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, JX and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).the population number includes all mys.the precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.the fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever IS shorter).there are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi?s database, and dc has received no reports either.the prowler IS excluded from the recall scope.the investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.the interlock system IS required under fmvss 114.with the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.when this occurs, there IS no overt indication to an operator that the system IS defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator?s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.the rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.

Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the defective collapsible steering shaft system on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.in part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(G), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge RAM series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.if the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.a review of odi's data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.therefore, the petition IS denied.for details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.
