Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 1994 Eagle Vision. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
4 recalls name the 1994 Eagle Vision. Newest first.
On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. an inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.
Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
Dealers will install a new load-limiting push rod into the floor shifter lever of the affected vehicles. owner notification began on june 14, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. the lower control arm attaching brackets can crack due to fatigue and separate from the engine cradle.
If this occurs, the transmission half-shaft could pull out of the transaxle and result in loss of power.
Dealers will reinforce the engine cradle at the point where the lower control arm attaches to it.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5L engines. the fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.
Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
Dealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. however, if a vehicle IS leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.
The right steering tie rod can rub through the automatic transmission wiring harness causing a short circuit which results in electrical system malfunctions including engine stalling and an inoperative park/starter interlock system.
Electrical system malfunction causing stalling while in motion or an inoperative park/starter interlock system, which allows engine start while the transmission IS not in the park position, may result in an accident.
Install a revised wiring harness bracket and a plastic convoluted sleeve to protect the transmission wiring harness.
TL* the contact owns a 1994 eagle vision. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitting into the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed fuel leaking onto the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact replaced the fuel regulator, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 98v184000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system). The failure mileage was unknown.
Tl*the contact owns a 1994 chrysler vision. in 2003, chrysler issued a voluntary recall for the seat assembly. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they claimed to have inspected the recall. on october 28, 2008, while driving 65 mph, the front driver's seat bracket failed and caused the backrest to fall backwards. she pulled over and returned the seat to the proper position. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that the failure was not due to the recall, but rather wear and tear. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they investigated the failure. the manufacturer's investigation confirmed that the failure was not caused by the recall. the failure was due to the age of the vehicle; therefore, they would not assist with the repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 70,165.
I had a recall performed on the vehicle last year at martin dodge in bowling green, ky. After getting the services rendered on the vehicle I noticed several problems. One was that turn signals were no longer operable, and automatic transmission would not shift past second gear and would miss gears repeatedly, also, ABS brake failed. in addition, my suspension was worse after they performed suspension recalls. I have tried on several occasions to contact the dealership , and they only suggested that I bring it in for a diagnostic at my cost, even though the problems existed after getting the recalls fixed. Long story short, I incurred court cost of $166.00 because of improper equipment and the buy, here, pay here lot IS requesting $2,280 for a car that I had no choice but to junk out because of it not being able to pass inspection for the road. I would appreciate anything you can do to aid in me absorbing the cost of this situation.*ak
Erratic transmission shift. eventually locked up in 2ND gear. replaced transmission in 8/06 with only 71000 miles on vehicle. 300 miles later, back in the shop. now possible tcm issue. this IS the 2ND transmission replaced. *nm
Dt: consumer complained about rack and pinion steering problem. when turning corners has to be strong to turn, it's like there IS no power steering. Contacted the manufacturer, and they say consumer will have to pay for repairs. There IS a recall that includes the trans axle, but not the rack and pinion. This started happening on may 30, 2005.
Complaint regarding consumer having to pay for a recall repair on vehicle which was suppose to be free of charge.*mr the consumer did not state which recall repair was being repaired. *jb *nm
My father in laws 1994 eagle vision had complete steering failure only moments after my 16 year old son arrived home. Thankfully no one was hurt. I have just found out that this IS a very common problem for eagle and intrepid models. It happened only yesterday and I have not had time to repair the car but the problem IS in the steering assembly. The tie rod ends have sheared off and completely disabled the steering. Had this happened a few minutes sooner my son would have been on one of the most congested roads in our area and it could have been a disaster. *nm
1-PUT 1994 eagle vision into reverse to get out of driveway at my home. On turning wheel to left into street, car started violently shaking, would not move, and making this loud thick noise. Car IS not exactly in middle of street. in fear of terrible sound, turned car off, thinking that may help what ever IS the problem (didn't have any idea what to do). Concerned about being in the smack dab middle of street and being hit, turned car back on, in 'park' IS ok, when I shift into any 'moving gear i.e rev, drive, o or 3) it starts making noise, shaking again, car IS lurching like it IS in a earthquake. Turned off. I thought if I could turn it on,put in neutral and roll to curb, I could get out of the street. As soon as I get to a 'rev', before neutral, starts the shaking, noise, etc. I go to neutral, it won't move. I am 126 lbs, alone, but my thought was to push it to start rolling to curb, won't budge, wheel against well. I get back in, put in park, turn off. Walked around, noticed the passr front tire against wheel well. Tried turn wheel, sharp left, it wouldn't respond, wheel straight was hitting wheel well piece which was why the wheel would not turn. I call a tow truck to move the car. Tow truck driver arrives I tell him what happened, show the wheel position, stuck to wheel well. tow truck driver car said he saw control arm was torn/broken/apart from frame of car. Car towed back into driveway until husband arrived and discussed. 2-lower control arm IS torn away from sub frame. Consequences, disrupted traffic, possible loss of control, injury to self, injury to others, death if car went out of control at high speed or on busy street or in intersection. 3-IN progress. Car towed to dealer 09/14/04. 9/14/04 dealer says looks like sub frame cracked, asked if in a accident. No. Dealer says he called chrsyler, chrysler says don't do anything they want to have zone rep. Look at it, and will let me know how to proceed. 9/15/04 did not hear from dealer at all, no messages. *jb
The bolts which held the steering links to the rack and pinion sheared off while driving. This resulted in lost of steering power, which almost resulted in an accident. The manufacturer and dealership has been contacted. *jb
I own a 1994 eagle vision and have been in to the dealers and other repair shops about my steering problem since 1997. many told me that my problem was struts, but when they were replaced, the problem still existed. finally, the last shop that I went into (firestone) told me that it was my rack & pinion system that IS failing. they informed me that the whole rack IS shifting from side to side and it has excessive play in it. while driving it feels like the whole vehicle IS about to collapse to the ground. my steering and ride IS horrible!!! *jb
Driver's seat broke and flew backwards while driving at 55 mph.*mr while driving 55 mph the power seat broke which caused the seat to collapse onto the rear seat. no injuries were sustained . the seat has not been repaired. the frontal passenger airbag cover has begun to raise up from the dashboard. *nlm
The front drivers seat gave out, while driving.. The seat went all the way down. 1994 eagle vision. Almost lost control,, luckily was traveling only 25-30 mph in the city and not on a highway. the recline mechanism, IS totally broken. The car IS not drivable, it IS friday and will have to wait till monday to call dealership. *jb
Problems electrically, shutting off while driving along and at idle. Some lights come on, but not all, doesn't always shut off, but has a major loss of power, then comes back, other times it shuts off and takes a few tries to come back on. *nlm problem IS worse when it IS wet outside. has been checked for fuel injection and other problems. Have been told it IS electrical and have been advised to make contact about possible defect.
Fuel leak at plastic fuel injector rail (seats fuel injector) which can result in possible engine fire. *Ak
Consumer states having the same problem as recall#94v02400 electric wire. Dealer will not repair because vin IS not included. Ts
Consumer states there IS a terrible gas odor. dealer replaced fuel rail o-rings at onwers expense. prior to repairs, consumer received recall notification relating to fuel injection system (98v184000) and IS requesting reimbursement. *tt
Consumer IS furious and wants to be refunded the cost of repairs. vehicle was leaking fuel. fuel rail and o-rings had to be replaced. there IS a safety recall calling for the replacement of the fuel rail and o-rings. however dealer records indicate the fuel rail was previously broken which voided the recall. (Recall#98v184000) *tt *cb
During a front end collision, passenger's side bag deployed; driver's side air bag did not deploy, causing minor injuries. *ak *jg
My air conditioner has failed 5 times in 5 years. All repairs have been dome by the dealer I bought the car new from. Evaporator failed twice, compressor once, h valve once, o rings once. *ak
During normal operation of the vehicle automatic transmission intermittently will not shift from second to third gear and will lose power while traveling at any speed. dealership has previously replaced transmission three tires, and the problem has occurred again. please provide any additional information / documentation.*ak
As I was pulling out of a parking space my front right transmission half-shaft pulled out from the transaxle. *Ak
Recall 98v-184 was performed 0N 16-feb-99, the fuel rail began to leak fuel again on 27-sep-00, the consumer feels the repair was not bone appropriately or that the replaced part itself had a similar defect, the consumer request reimbursement. nlm
While traveling 30 mph driver's seatback broke, and driver fell all way back. *ak
Steering wheel pulls to the right - excessive steering play. *Ak
Fire hazard still exists with more than the 1993 eagle vision model, although no manufacturer's recall has been issued to address this critical problem. *Ak
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On september 5, 2004, mr. Robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.his petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle IS being towed.mr. Galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioner's 1996 dodge intrepid.on october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.that investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.this IS still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsa's database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.
The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler?s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, JX and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).the population number includes all mys.the precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.the fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever IS shorter).there are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi?s database, and dc has received no reports either.the prowler IS excluded from the recall scope.the investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.the interlock system IS required under fmvss 114.with the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.when this occurs, there IS no overt indication to an operator that the system IS defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator?s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.the rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.
Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the defective collapsible steering shaft system on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.in part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(G), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge RAM series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.if the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.a review of odi's data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.therefore, the petition IS denied.for details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.

Since opening the preliminary evaluation (pe), odi has received 6 additional complaints.during the pe it was determined multiple failure modes are involved in this matter.the warranty claim rate IS high for a steering system concern.the issues reported involve premature wear out at the rack and pinion interface with the inner tie rod end(s), binding and sticking of the steering gear, cracked or broken tie rod ends, sheared rack and pinion assembly bolts, and wear out of the rack and pinion mount bushings.many of the complainants mention steering wonder and loose steering.three of the most recent complaints allege a complete loss of steering due to sheared bolts.odi IS upgrading this pe in order to perform a thorough technical analysis of the various system failure allegations and to quantify the effect that these failures have on vehicle control.
There is no summary currently available
Alleged that the front suspension weld fails or cracks causing the suspension to collapse and a loss of vehicle control
Alleged that the rear suspension trailing and/or its attachment bolt may fail, posing a risk of loss of vehicle control and loss of rear service brake operation
Nitrile rubber seals used in the fuel rail assemblies of the subject vehicles at the supply, return, and crossover tube fittings, and at the pressure regulator fail, resulting in fuel leakage in the engine compartment.also, the outlet (right) fuel rail may leak from cracks at certain mold gates in the thermoset rail material.chrysler will recall the subject vehicles and stated that it intends to replace the o-rings with fluorocarbon o-ring having greater heat resistance capability and attach reinforcements to the rail in the areas where the cracking concern has been known to occur most frequently.rails that are already cracked will be replaced by new, reinforced rails.
A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if waarranted by the circumstances.an engineering analysis clossing report IS included in the public file.
