Dealers will replace the hazard switch carrier. owner notification will be conducted in two phases. the first phase began april 15, 2002, with mailings to owners of 2000 and early 2001 vehicles. the second mailing phase will be to remaining 2001 and 2002 vehicles. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, sport utility vehicles, and MINI vans equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. the buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
Dealers will inspect the vehicle's safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any safety belt buckle assembly.
Vehicle description: s -trucks equipped with 2 wheel drive. these vehicles may have had the right-hand antilock brake system (ABS) module feed pipe and/or brake crossover pipe tube nuts tightened without seating the pipe-flared-ends enough to withstand normal assembly and vehicle inputs without partially unseating. this does not comply with requirements…
If this occurred, the seating seal could be broken during vehicle assembly, or from early road inputs or brake fluid cycling, and a leak could occur increasing the brake stopping distance.
Dealers will inspect the brake pipe union for signs of brake fluid, and if necessary, install a new brake pipe union.
[XXX] Steering wheel started bumping then heard noise from passenger side front. Started losing control of vehicle. Made it to the shoulder. Inspected tire, tire failure tread had separated from cord. Changed to spare tire which was bald. However tread from failed tire had bent metal wheel well and was rubbing on spare. Made it to Mr Tire. Had wheel well bent back and new tire installed. We could have been severely injured, killed or crashed into another vehicle, hurting or killing them. My daughter and grandson were in vehicle with me. No ins claim filed. No police report. Mr Tire did not inspect failed tire as I had changed to the spare I still have the failed tire. I plan to take the tire back to Walmart where it was purchased and installed. However I do not want another uniroyal tire. If someone needs to inspect the tire please let me know so I don't return it. No warning. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was just driving down the street and my door flew open.

This happens a lot. I was backing up out of my sister's driveway and when I hit the brakes there was a crunching feeling under my foot along with a weird sound like, "doing" at the end. I could not stop fast enough and ran into her brother in laws hitch on his truck with my right rear corner bumper cover. (If that's what it's called? maybe fascia?) it didn't hurt his truck at all, but it sure busted up that corner piece real good on my jimmy. it's been scary a few times since! I have had the brakes bled, and new brake pads installed, and it's still doing it! also, the ABS light IS on most of the time. when it's off IS when this problem occurs. so I get a little panicky when that light goes off, although I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be on to begin with? I don't know what else to do about this except to contact someone about it. I read somewhere that this ABS issues IS from a problem with a sensor something or other gets corroded and has been recalled. IS this true? p.s. I have noticed the ABS light goes off when it's rainy, sometimes when it's snowy, and usually when you first get in the vehicle to go somewhere, if that helps. *js
I was driving at night and my headlights (which are automatic type using a light sensor) went out for a few seconds without me doing anything. after a few seconds they came back on. they did it a 2ND time for a shorter time period on the same drive and have flashed off for a few seconds temporarily on a few nights since then. the interior dash/switch lighting inside the car does not go out, just the headlamps. *tr
The car was running on south hi 35, before arrive to 51TH st, austin, texas. It was friday, around 10:30, we were in the middle lane going to a medical appointment, when the car stop working, the engine went off. We were two in the car, and we were scare. Thanks god was in the morning, not rush hour, but hi 35 IS always busy. We were lucky and found an space between the cars. We just park the car close the exit to go to 51TH, but the safety truck which help on hi 35, parked behind us, so it protected us until the tow truck came for us, one and a half hour later. *tr

The contact mentioned that the failure would occur during cold weather. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Seat belt (drivers) will not engage. sometimes will engage after you have driven a few miles. *tr
My wife started the car and the red brakes warning light was on. she pumped the brake pedal and it went to the floor. She turned the car off and returned to the house and cancelled her scheduled appointment. later, after I arrived home I inspected the brake lines and found evidence of leaking above the left rear wheel. I jacked up the car, removed the left rear wheel and a rubber shield between the frame rail and body. more evidence of a leak was present. I started the car, pumped the brakes twice, turned off the car and reinspected the area. the metal brake line that runs along the top of the frame rail had a leak where it 90S toward the center of the axle. *tr
As I was driving along the air bag light came on. I have seen threads of smoke on 3 or 4 occasions coming from the steering column. The air bag light goes out after a minute and comes on again repeatedly. *tr
GMC jimmy 2000 fuel gauge not reading the correct amount of fuel . This IS a ongoing problem. running out of gas IS a big problem if you don't track mileage. Very unsafe as one could be stranded . *Tr
While driving my 2000 GMC jimmy my left side upper ball joint broke. Luckily I had just came out of a sharp corner and my speed was only about 25 mph. A car had just passed in the other direction when my vehicle swerved to the left, halfway into the other lane before I was able to get control of it. Upon inspection, the tire was leaning inward and my brake line was severed. I had to use my emergency brake to stop. *tr
At 94,445 miles: noticed a small leakage on garage floor, forward of left rear tire--within 10 miles noted significantly reduced braking capability. taken to repair facility the following morning...the steel brake lines on driver's side were found corroded and cracked which caused brake fluid loss- ironically as the service technician was pulling the vehicle into the service bay--there was a total loss of rear brakes-- only then--in the bay, did the "brake" service warning light came on! (good reason to call them ' idiot' lights). *tr
Upon inspection of 2000 GMC jimmy 4DR / 4WD brake line drivers side over frame next to fuel tank held down by a clip leading to rear brakes ruptured due to corrosion around the clip area that holds the line to frame causing total loss rear brakes and proper braking when brake pedal went to the floor while returning home to park vehicle at our residence,.. Luckily at time of incident we were on our own rural property in driveway which IS (approximately 2/10 mile long) and not the busy main highway which was traveled at 55 mph. the terrain was used in our driveway to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Thankfully no injury's to occupants (including a 3 year old child) or damage to vehicle occurred with this incident. *tr
Started out with a wobble on the tire then my ball joints upper and lower left and right front along with my tie rods inner and outer left and right my left ball barring hub was replaced on the left side front also I still have to replace the stabilizing front bar which I will be purchasing this week of sept 1ST. this all happened just these past two weeks and now I am forced to purchase 4 tires that I cannot afford after spending all that money to fix the front end. Please help me. I did not have any accidents that IS just from driving to work and for pleasure. *tr
Engine system: oil cooling lines: oil ( dripping) loss first noticed november, 2010 at 90,000mi- drip became progressively worse over several weeks creating potential engine damage and fire danger. oil cooler lines replaced first week january, 2011 at 94,000 miles. Replacement of the oil cooler lines has been a common and recurrent complaint for the 2000 GMC jimmy--see: mycarstats.com--since 2002. *Tr

My 1998 envoy had thie same issue (which I bought new) as the used 2000 GMC diamond edition jimmy I bought to replace it after I was t-boned in aug 2009... fuel gauge IS totally faulty and I have to reset the tripometer every time I fill up or will run out of gas due to false readings. as a single mommy with two kids I am scared of the idea of getting stuck on a dark highway headed in or out of town because of this. if the tripometer ever goes I will be at a loss. the key sticks in ignition and I have to turn the vehicle of and on sometimes 30 or 40 times while others only twice or so... With hundreds of complaints posted on the web... )And that IS only at first glance) I have seen with these known issues I do not know what to do. *Tr
I own a 2000 GMC jimmy and some were recalled for their seat belts and I am experiencing the same problems but I was tolled mine was not included in the recall. (Seat belts not tightening while one IS buckled in and seat belts are so loose they get tangled when you unbuckle there IS also one belt that keeps tightening after being buckled to the point of cutting the skin.) I bought this jimmy this year 2010. *Tr
1999 and 2000 GMC jimmy's. consumer states left steel brake line was corroded/cracked which caused loss of brake fluid in the 2000 and numerous gas lines leaking, corrosion on the 1999 GMC jimmy. *Tgw
Slowly the door has been getting harder and harder to close. Then the door panel started popping off everytime you close the door and now the door wont close all the way. Was told jimmys are well known for this problem with the door hinges... *Tr
Recall number 08v231000 concerning the multifunction switch in steering column. 2000 GMC jimmy IS experiencing same problem as recall and gm says the part was replaced back in 03 per their records but if it actually was replaced, the part that replaced it IS failing just as the recall info described and could lead to light failure. my concern IS they are replacing defective parts with defective parts and are unwilling to address this concern! *Tr
Noticed dampness around the left rear brake hose to rear brake caliper. we took our vehicle to be inspected and were told that there are "2" copper washers that are causing the leak and requires replacement. we were also told that this IS quite a common problem. if this was not repaired and the leak continued, it would have resulted in the loss brake performance, loss of vehicle control and injury to the occupants. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On november 30, 2001, general motors (gm) conducted safety recall 01v-364 for the subject vehicles built between september 16, 1999 and august 28, 2001 to remedy a defective hazard switch that would cause a loss of hazard and stop lamp illumination.the hazard switch IS contained within the vehicle multifunction switch.odi opened this investigation based on reports that some consumers were not notified of the original recall or that they had repairs done under 01v-364 but experienced subsequent multifunction switch failures.the multifunction switch supports the operation of cruise control, windshield wipers, exterior lighting and turn signals in addition to hazard and stop lamps. On may 21, 2008, gm notified the agency that it erroneously missed identifying 5,862 vehicles that should have been included in recall 01v-364.gm will now notify owners of these vehicles under a new nhtsa recall number 08v-231.owner notification began on june 17.the primary cause of brake lamp failure was a design change from copper to brass contact material in the hazard switch.this change was effective for vehicles built after september 16, 1999.gm changed the material back to copper for vehicles built after august 28, 2001. The remedy part for both 01v-364 and 08v-231 contains copper contacts.gm's data shows that less than 1% of vehicles repaired under recall 01v-364 required additional subsequent repair or replacement of the hazard or multifunction switch.this investigation IS closed.
