Driver and Passenger door will not stay shut while driving, I almost fall out the passenger door while my boyfriend was driving the car from Fett's city motor in omaha nebraska when we bought it the door wouldnt shut we have to lift the doors and slim them shut and lock them and that doesnt even work. My Little 15 year old baby brother and his girlfriend was riding with me while driving down [XXX] and the both doors flew open and i didnt have anywhere to pull over to shut the doors my little brother fall out and his girlfriend. I put down $500 on [XXX] and when we bought the car Fette's motors knew the Driver and Passenger doors wasn't shutting the correct way and they still let me buy the car and that is a health hazard and dangerous. Fett's Motor shouldnt be allowed to sell cars or at least sell cars that isn't a a dangerous zone or safety hazard. My 15 year old baby brother had to go to the ER because he and his girlfriend fall out the passenger door and driver door. The contact owns a 2001 GMC Jimmy. The contact stated that while at a complete stop with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle turned off independently. The contact stated that he had to depress the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal at the same time to keep the vehicle running. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the spider fuel injectors needed to be replaced. Additionally, there was very low compression on cylinder #1 and #3 of 55 PSI. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was unrepairable. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Front driver side door hinges unsafe design replace them 38 times no kidding. Airbag light has been on not blinking steady on for 5 years. ABS kicks in on dry road when turning sometimes. And yes all new hubs are on it. Other than these things the car IS bullet proof and love it.
TL* the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. While driving 65 mph, the brakes failed to respond without warning and the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the entire front end was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. updated 06/02/2017 *js
Brake failure while driving, vehicle was in motion. Brake line corrosion caused front brakes to fail on 11/30/2015 no accident resulted from the failure.
Michelin tires XC LT4 P235 70S 15 purchased 12/18/2010 thru sears and now have 19,490 miles use as of 11/14/2015. problem IS sidewalls have substantial dry rot cracking. Problem was reported to sears who stated it IS caused by dry rot, age, & weather exposure. This vehicles air pressure IS monitored routinly with tire rotation about every 5 to 6K miles. other brand tires I have had were much older than these and had no dry rot.
There have been a number of recalls for the 2001 GMC jimmy, mainly recall #01073a & b stating ext. Lighting brake switch/ no rear brake lights. I'm told that the service was apparently completed on my vehicle in 2002, but another recall came out in 2008 stating the same problem. Gm canada IS refusing to do the necessary recall on my truck stating that it was previously completed and that my vehicle IS over a decade old, so it's my problem. I won't be purchasing another GMC in the future due to this issue. My rear brake lights stop working and its the switch that needs replacing. Thanks for nothing gm! You just lost a long term customer over a recall part. dec 2001 - recall #01v364000 may 2008 - recall #01v364 / 01073b
My son asked me if I could tell what was making a clicking sound inside the 2001 GMC jimmy. when checking for turn signals, lights, etc, I noticed the brake lights were not working. We have discovered that what least when the clicking noise IS heard, there are no brake lights. Other times they work. davis stanley dealership said all recalls had been fixed. if the recalls were fixed, the replacements apparently have the same problem as the originals. I really do not like the idea that my granddaughter IS being driven around in a car that may or may not have brake lights because of a safety engineering problem that gm only had to worry about repairing once even though the same problem happens again after the original repair. IS there a site that will tell who and when the recalls were fixed. thanks *tr
On highway during heavy rain, vehicle left roadway along slight curve by failing to turn front wheels and hydroplaned straight off pavement. vehicle then left the ground flying downhill, smashed front passenger side bumper into and through 10+ inch tree, spun 90 degrees clockwise before side impacting two 25+ inch trees against driver side door and rear wheel, before coming to a stop (on steep hill held by the trees), totaling the jimmy. top of vehicle had to be cut off to free driver. police originally thought accident was fatality. vehicle had previously experienced failure to turn after braking lightly, like before entering driveways or parking spaces. steering would lock in straight position and car had to be shifted to park and restarted before wheel could be turned again. when taken to well known auto shop for this steering issue before accident, shop stated that problem was located in front passenger side and was then repaired. *tr
While driving on interstate smoke started coming out from the steering wheel and I smelled something burning, I pulled over to make sure the vehicle was not going to start on fire, and found the bottom brake lights were not working but the top center brake light was working. After getting home I researched and found that my GMC vin# had been included in a recall. But what was replaced and when it was replaced I do not know. It only stated that my vin # was included, and that no other recalls were in affect at this time. So according to GMC web site there were 2 different recalls for this issue and 3 different parts could be the problem. 1- the brake switch, 2- the multifunction switch and 3- the flasher switch, and to determine which part IS the faulty one you have to take it to a mechanic then pay him in this instance between 300.00 to 400.00 (which I have not done yet do to I can not afford it) for the new part and his time to replace it. So how can a car manufacturer only have to be responsible for fixing the issue only 1 time when apparently the replacement parts are not any better or redesigned to be better than the original part? I feel that gm or any other car manufacturer should have to replace for free any recalled part for the life of the vehicle. If they would fix the problem the first time it would only have to be fixed 1 time, and would never be an issue again.(and I would not be using my time to file this safety complaint). Better yet how about better engineering and quality control and testing to eliminate recalls all together. *js

TL* the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20-25 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning and caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle, crashing into a garage. The contact sustained injuries to the back and neck. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. The manufacturer was contacted and was scheduled to further inspect the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 149,000. *tr
I would like to file a complaint about the ABS brake sensor not working. From online search this IS a common problem with the 2001 GMC jimmy and no recall has been issued. I have had this issue for the past year that the ABS lights on the dash will come sometimes but at other times it will be off. I have been told the sensor IS bad and it would cost over $700.00 to fix. Since this IS a big issue I wish you would look into this and have gm issue a recall. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. The contact stated that the exterior brake light switch failed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the brake light switch yet, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted and informed her that there was a recall under nhtsa campaign ID number: 08v231000 (exterior lighting: brake lights: switch) but her vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000. updated 08/30/11
TL* the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud, abnormal bang. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was told that the front axle fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 85,000.
2001 GMC envoy - gas tank neck leaking at grommet. Gm does not offer a fix. The cost of replacing tank with labor IS an absurd $600-$800 dollars. This should be cause for recall of all similar models. *Tr
TL* the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. While examining the vehicle, she noticed that the rear brake lights were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the multi-function switch needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 135,000. updated 05/12/10 *bf the consumer stated there was smoke coming from the steering column and the turn signals were inoperative. updated 05/17/10.*jb
I purchased a 2001 GMC jimmy. Problem IS ignition lock. Key stays in lock, have to fiddle with ignition move car, turn wheel to find just the right place. Thought just my car,but have seen others with same problem, local dealer said can fix for about 100 dollars they never looked at vehicle. Was told by gm on phone to push button on column to get key out, I don't have one was told book shows one any suggestion the vehicle fits my needs was really super low miles. *Tr
2001 GMC jimmy recall no.01073 stop/hazard lamps this was replaced on my jimmy before I owned it . I t went bad again . I contacted a chevy/gmc dealer and GMC and was told that nothing could be done since it was already replaced. This IS a safety hazard since I had no brake lights so I had my mechanic replace the part which cost me $265.31 I think I should get a reimbursement since this was a safety recall.even if it was replaced once ,it has failed again. nhtsa campaign ID # 08v231000 mfr's report date :may21,2008 nhtsa action #rq08001 I am hoping you can look into this matter and allow me a refund. GMC gave me a case # 71-762-63641. *Tr
Event leading to failure: I was stupid enough to buy the lemon in the first place. the failure (s) occur on a regular basis. I bought this 2001 GMC jimmy in 2004. as a certified used car. It had 38,075 miles on it. I didn't have it a month before the left front wheel bearing went out. Shortly after the pollution control air pump went out. Then it was the air filter pump and hoses to the remote filter. Next came replacement of all four brake rotors. All of this before 40,000 miles. Next came the fuel pump(april 2006).a couple of months later it was the fuel pressure regulator and fuel sensor. Then it was replacing the 2WD/ 4WD selector module in the dash. Next in line was a new alternator. Less than a year later it was another new alternator,a couple of days ago it was another new fuel pump. There are at least a dozen other things that were replaced. I only mentioned the really costly items. I have spent just a little over $5000.00 on this piece of junk. Contacting GMC customer complaints IS a big waste of time. I'll never buy another GMC anything. The federal government should pull the plug and let GMC close down forever. *Tr
The cruise control wouldn't go off. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. while driving approximately 25 mph, the contact detected smoke coming from the steering column. suddenly, the rear brake light system activated without the brakes being applied. the brake lights remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure occurred intermittently and the dealer was notified of the malfunctions. the vehicle was previously repaired according to nhtsa campaign ID number 08v231000 (exterior lighting:brake lights;switch); however, the remedy has not corrected the issue. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 102,000. updated 10/06/09 *bf the consumer stated he purchased the parts and had the dealer replace the combination and ignition switch. Updated 10/08/09
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 GMC jimmy. the contact noticed that the on-board diagnostic system warning indicator would consistently illuminate on the instrument panel. the vehicle frequently misfired, which caused it to be inoperable. the dealer stated that he needed to replace the scpi fuel injector and the mass air flow sensors at the cost of $1,150. he IS in the process of having the vehicle repaired. he called the manufacturer in reference to a voluntary recall for the state of california for 1996 to 2001 suv's, but was not provided any assistance because the recall was not applicable for his state. the current and failure mileages were 72,000.
When I got to work on tuesday morning, went to park car in space, put in reverse, clunk, no reverse, can't get out of first gear. I had to have my car towed 30 miles each way to my mechanic. Turns out the planetary gear went, need a new transmission, costing over $3000.00. After doing some research on the internet I see there are thousands of complaints on something called the sunshell gear 4160e that seems to have been a problem on many of GMC passenger cars and light duty trucks. I even came across a service bulletin they put out about the problem, but never any recall on such a problem. I have a 2001 GMC jimmy. The service bulletin runs in autos from 1993-2005. Now, I wonder, why no recall on such a huge problem. I mean it's the most costly thing to repair and happens without any warning at all. I would suggest this be looked into, I mean now I get a new transmission from GMC which I'm sure the problem IS solved, but how many people have shelled out big bucks to fix this problem and mostly at less than 100,000 miles on their vehicles. Tranny's should last longer than that. I am sure I'm not the only complaint received on this subject from what I saw in my research. If it's a defect, recall it and fix it. We, as consumers work hard to have a vehicle we can rely on and to have a major problem like this happen IS really not right. Obviously GMC IS aware there was a problem for some time now. Thank you for your attention to this matter. *Tr
ABS module needs to be repaired at estimated 1200.00 and the pedal brake control and mechanism at 160.00 not including labor. This IS ridiculous for a 2001 and have lots of others with similar problems. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On november 30, 2001, general motors (gm) conducted safety recall 01v-364 for the subject vehicles built between september 16, 1999 and august 28, 2001 to remedy a defective hazard switch that would cause a loss of hazard and stop lamp illumination.the hazard switch IS contained within the vehicle multifunction switch.odi opened this investigation based on reports that some consumers were not notified of the original recall or that they had repairs done under 01v-364 but experienced subsequent multifunction switch failures.the multifunction switch supports the operation of cruise control, windshield wipers, exterior lighting and turn signals in addition to hazard and stop lamps. On may 21, 2008, gm notified the agency that it erroneously missed identifying 5,862 vehicles that should have been included in recall 01v-364.gm will now notify owners of these vehicles under a new nhtsa recall number 08v-231.owner notification began on june 17.the primary cause of brake lamp failure was a design change from copper to brass contact material in the hazard switch.this change was effective for vehicles built after september 16, 1999.gm changed the material back to copper for vehicles built after august 28, 2001. The remedy part for both 01v-364 and 08v-231 contains copper contacts.gm's data shows that less than 1% of vehicles repaired under recall 01v-364 required additional subsequent repair or replacement of the hazard or multifunction switch.this investigation IS closed.
