  If the clutch cannot be disengaged it can result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

  Remedy

  Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will install a new secondary clutch actuator piston assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 5, 2018. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0173.

  This Harley Davidson and many others won’t start while in gear. I was at a red light and when the light turned green I started in 1st gear and stalled the bike in the middle of the intersection. Normally Harley’s will start in gear so I tried but it wouldn’t. I had to turn off the bike, put it in neutral and start it. Harley issued a Service Bulletin, see attached, however unless the bike is under warranty they won’t fix it. This should be a recall as it’s very dangerous. I just purchased the bike and the previous owner had no idea. Please help fix this. Thanks

  When using the gps the voice prompts will quit working and cause you to miss turns or have to take your eyes off of the road creating a safety issue. This has happened numerous times. Harley davidson has been aware of the problem for at least 6 months and state it IS a software problem and it will be fixed in a future update. I feel that it IS a safety issue and should be corrected quickly. harley davidson engineers told my local dealership (timms harley davidson augusta, ga) they had a problem in june 2018 after numerous complaints. I sent a letter to HD in october after waiting for a resolution for several months. I am attaching my letter and their response. I feel that this could cause accidents if it hasn't already and should be resolved expeditiously. This problem began occurring in february 2018 when I picked the bike up from the dealership and IS still occurring intermittently . Mileage listed IS for first time incident occured, this IS an ongoing problem.

Starting on October 4, 2023 all Milwaukee-Eight CVO, Police, Softail, Touring and Trike models will be assembled using a common shift drum. The new shift drum (Part No. 33900265) is replacing the old shift drum (Part No. 33900172). The new shift drum was developed to include the "D" shaft on the end to interface with the Gear Position Sensor on 2023 CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE) and Road Glide (FLTRXSE). For all other Milwaukee-Eight models, the bearing door has been modified by adding a pocket to accept the "D" shaft of the new shift drum.

As of Monday July 31, 2023, Powertrain Operations (PTO) in Menomonee Falls, WI is building all Milwaukee-Eight Softail and Touring powertrain models with new oil pan fasteners (Part No. 12600369). The old fasteners (Part No. 4741A) will still remain available for dealer purchase. The oil pans for the Softail and Touring models were updated to accept the new fastener geometry. Their Part Numbers have been superseded to (-A). Touring will be (Part No. 24400180A) and Softail will be (Part No. 24400208A). The new fastener will not fit with an old oil pan but the old hardware will still be available for dealer purchase. The old fastener CAN be used with a new (-A) oil pans. The fastener torque has not been changed.

Harley-Davidson has learned that a small percentage of dealers and customers are finding low transmission oil levels and high primary oil levels during normal maintenance intervals. This could indicate that oil is transferring from the transmission case to the primary housing through the transmission mainshaft. A inner primary vent service kit (Part No. 26500027) is now available to address this issue. The kit allows the primary to breath and prevents excessive pressure. All markets are affected.

A leak may occur on some Touring, CVO Touring, Police Touring and Trike models equipped with hydraulic clutch. The leak may occur when the line is replaced or when a P&A clutch line is installed. The area of the leak is at the joint where the clutch line attaches to the secondary clutch actuator (right side of the transmission). Required Dealer Action: Use Snap-on Flare Nut Socket (Part No. GAN85087B) and Snap-on Torque Wrench (Part No. QJR117F or similar) to tighten flare nut. Each time clutch line is installed or torque is adjusted to determine if leak is still present, bleed the clutch system.

The clearance of the Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight crank pin bearings are maintained to a very tight range. This optimizes performance and maintains low mechanical noise in operation. The connecting rod bore can also distort slightly in operation due to stress relaxation. As a result, bearing clearance decreases due to the contact zone broadening and the load being distributed over more rollers. The combination of a bore being slightly out of round and reduced bearing clearance can result in varying degrees of resistance through the range of motion. Axial clearance is also tightly controlled for proper alignment. For these reasons, zones of resistance can be found when the connecting rods are rotated by hand through their range of motion. Resistance during rod motion, by itself, is not an indication of a performance or durability concern.
