Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The side curtain air bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

Improper side curtain air bag deployment increases the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will install a protective film over the rear window and remove padding, as necessary free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Final remedy owner letters will be mailed in phases, beginning in June 2026 and expected to continue through December 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats may fail to latch.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Seat belt buckles that fail to latch may not properly restrain occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
Passengers are advised to insert the belt firmly into the buckle with a quick and direct motion, pulling on the belt to confirm the seat belt is fully secured, until the recall remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning October 23, 2025. Final remedy owner letters will be mailed in phases, beginning in June 2026 and expected to continue through December 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles. The windshield wiper motor may operate intermittently or fail to operate due to snow or ice buildup on the windshield, causing the wipers to fail.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022 Palisade vehicles. The instrument cluster assembly may have been manufactured with excessive adhesive, which can disable the instrument cluster display screen.

A disabled display screen will not show critical information, such as the meters, gauges, and warning lights, which can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy

Was a stop waiting for a break in traffic to make a right turn. Once there was a break in traffic, I attempted to turn the steering wheel while easing out of the corner but the wheel completely locked up and I was unable to make the turn. Thankfully, there was enough of a break in traffic (across all four lanes) that I could navigate into the parking garage across the street. There I was able to shut off the vehicle and restart it again and regain steering capabilities.

The driver was pulling onto a driveway and braking to slow to a stop near the entrance of a garage. Suddenly the car surged ahead striking a stone column at the garage entrance severely damaging the column and damaging the front hood, bumper and licence plate area of the car. The air bags did not deploy. This incident occurred at night. At the same time the car surged forward the interior lights and control panel lights went out completely. They came back on after the vehicle hit the garage column. There were two adults and two children in the vehicle. All known recalls (7) at that time had been completed on the vehicle (2022 Hyundai Palisade).

The vehicle experienced severe engine stalling and critically low oil levels that were officially documented by an authorized dealership well before 100,000 miles (at approximately 79,000 miles). Because this pre-existing condition remained unresolved under warranty, the engine ultimately failed and required a complete replacement at approximately 103,000 miles. Just 7,000 miles later, at 110,000 miles, the automatic transmission suffered a critical failure. The transmission severely shudders, spikes to excessively high RPMs, and refuses to shift properly through lower gears (gears 1 to 3). This causes sudden hesitation, loss of motive power, and violent jerking when accelerating and merging into active traffic, creating an imminent crash hazard. The manufacturer has refused repair assistance despite cascading powertrain defects that originated prior to 100,000 miles.

The vehicle has experienced issues for roughly 6 months randomly not starting. The lights and displays come on but it will not respond to push start. We took it in and they replaced the starter assembly about a month ago. The next day it wouldn’t start again. That same weekend died twice and intersections with the auto stop start like the computer was rebooting. It went back into the shop a few weeks ago and they have been unable to isolate the issue. Opened up a case with Hyundai and it’s back at the dealer again tomorrow for them to work with HQ technical teams.

The driver-side windshield wiper arm/attachment system malfunctioned. This is the same component area addressed by Hyundai Safety Recall 243 (NHTSA Recall 23V-180). The dealership documented that the driver-side “wiper arm nut backed off causing wiper arm to come off car.” Photographs also show damage/wear to the internal splined mounting area of the wiper arm. The dealership tightened the retaining hardware and returned the existing wiper arm to service rather than replacing the arm. The vehicle and currently installed wiper arm are available for inspection upon request. I also have photographs documenting the condition before and after the dealership service. The driver-side windshield wiper stopped functioning, leaving the driver without a functioning wiper to maintain visibility through the windshield. Had this occurred during rain, snow, or other reduced-visibility conditions, I could have experienced a sudden loss of adequate forward visibility while driving. I am concerned about recurrence because the dealership documented that the retaining nut had backed off, there is visible damage to the wiper arm's splined mounting area, and the existing arm was returned to service after the retaining hardware was tightened. Yes. The vehicle was taken to the authorized Hyundai dealership that previously performed Recall 243. The dealership confirmed the malfunction and documented on the October 6, 2026 repair order: “DRIVER SIDE WIPER ARM IS NOT MOVING” and “FOUND WIPER ARM NUT BACKED OFF CAUSING WIPER ARM TO COME OFF CAR.” The dealership tightened the retaining hardware and returned the existing wiper arm to service. The vehicle and wiper assembly were inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership on October 6, 2026. This is the same dealership that performed Hyundai Safety Recall 243 on the vehicle in March 2023. No warning lights/messages or prior symptoms. Wiper failed suddenly during normal warm-weather use with no snow, ice, or unusual resistance.

Berman Hyundai of Lincolnwood performed massive engine and transmission overhauls but twice willfully ignored my warnings about this catastrophic steering defect. The dealership is refusing a safe loaner vehicle. The car is currently grounded at Napleton Hyundai for an emergency independent diagnostic. An active corporate case is open with Hyundai Motor America under Case Management #43278436. All this and I’m not even done paying the vehicle.

Component Affected: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: HIGH PRESSURE PUMP Description of the Safety Hazard: My 2022 Hyundai Palisade has developed a catastrophic failure of the engine-mounted High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). The insulating foam cover is completely saturated and leaking raw, liquid gasoline directly on top of the engine block. The fuel system is unable to maintain rail pressure, causing severe pre-detonation engine knock ("pinging") and mechanical stumbling during acceleration. Furthermore, there are visible electrical flashes/short-circuit arcs occurring in the engine bay directly adjacent to the high-pressure liquid fuel leak, presenting an imminent vehicle fire hazard. Active dark fluid puddles contaminated with fuel are dripping past the splash shields onto the ground. Dealer/Manufacturer Actions: Despite clear photographic evidence of a pressurized fuel leak on a powertrain-covered component, multiple authorized Hyundai dealerships (Fred Beans, Harrisburg, and Chambersburg) have refused service or grossly misdiagnosed the life-threatening safety issue as a 'gas cap' or 'water hose.' Hyundai Motor America Corporate Consumer Assistance has failed to intervene or provide emergency towing remediation for this severe fire risk.

Before someone cuts them self with sharp metal or coating that is off on a door handle where you open the door is concerning.

I was driving to work, at a rate of 75 mph (permitted speed limit). As I approached an intersection, I tapped the brakes to turn off the cruise control. It did not turn off. I then pressed the brake pedal and it went further down than normal. The vehicle did not appear to even try and slow down or brake. I tried again, standing on the brakes with both feet. At this point, I knew I would not be stopping, as the pedal continued to feel strange, and not catching for lack of better terms. I did my best to steer around two sign poles directly in my path. Unfortunately due to not being able to control speed, I did hit one. I then continued on for approximately and 1/8 of a mile before my car finally came to a stop in the middle of a dirt field. I do not know if this was a software or mechanical issue with the brakes. I only know they did not work when needed, under normal circumstances.

This vehicle has had an open recall for seat belts for over a year. We have had issues with the seat belts and stated that to our local hyundai shop in Farmington, NM multiple times. Even when the car has been in for other things. The only thing they can tell us is that the seatbelts are on backorder and they do not know when they will be in. Then they give us a print out stating the vehicle has an open recall. Like really, we know that you can't seem to fix it. My daughter who should still be in a booster seat is unable to use a booster due to the seat belts coming undone sometimes when buckling them if we use a booster. I feel like with a safety recall like this, if you can't get the seat belts in the cars that are already on the road, mabe the manufacturer does not need to be producing new cars as they too require seat belts. I put in the most recent date we were told the belts were on order in the date occurred.

Labor Day weekend I was two hours away from home. Before leaving town my automatic collision breaking system decided to go off and start breaking. There was absolutely no one in front of me. The entire weekend about seven or eight times my vehicle put me in extreme danger going at all speeds putting myself in my Assistan danger of dying and flying through the windshield. When I got back to town and made an appointment at North Freeway, Hyundai in Spring they lied and claimed there was front and damage and that the bracket was loose. I have absolutely no front end damage I have included pictures for some reason if they don’t work your system is having issues. Their pictures they took are completely blown out and white and look like it needs an exorcism. I have clear photos of my vehicle there was absolutely no incident or damaged to have any issues with my vehicle . I have been an extreme danger and had to turn it off in order to drive home. I have made several attempts to contact the service manager and he cannot be bothered to contact me it is apparently above him and his Pay grade. I have contacted Hyundai personally and they are working on it on their end but overall it’s up to the dealership

I was driving the 2022 Palisade at 65 miles an hour on busy interstate when it suddenly shifted down to 5 miles per hour. I was almost back ended and sideswiped as I tried to get from middle lane to side of interstate. I had 3 grandchildren in car at the time. I had this vehicle in for repair at Hyundai dealership twice before this incident and was told just bad gas and keep driving it. Another incident before was at 4 way stop in GA where I started after stop and car completely stopped and a gentleman also broadsided me. Again told bad gas. After taking car in for repair again, I was told total transmission failure at 108000 miles.

Vehicle: 2022 Hyundai Palisade, approximately 78,000 miles. The vehicle has experienced a recurring engine/powertrain malfunction involving engine stalling, hesitation/rough operation, startup rattling, cylinder air/fuel imbalance, and misfires. The exact failed component is currently UNKNOWN. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has stalled at low speeds, creating a safety concern because the engine can unexpectedly shut off or lose power while the vehicle is being operated in traffic. Unexpected stalling could leave the vehicle without normal acceleration when entering or crossing traffic and creates a risk of a collision involving the occupants or other motorists.The vehicle has been evaluated and serviced by a Hyundai dealership for engine-related concerns. Diagnostic trouble codes associated with these problems have included P000C, P219D, P219F, P21A0, and P0302. Of particular concern, P219D, indicating a Cylinder 2 air/fuel ratio imbalance, has occurred repeatedly, and the vehicle subsequently generated P0302, indicating a Cylinder 2 misfire. This suggests a recurring problem involving the same cylinder, although the underlying cause remains UNKNOWN.Previous repair efforts have included work involving the vehicle's VVT system, but the engine-related problems and diagnostic codes have continued/recurred. The vehicle/component has been inspected by a Hyundai dealership. To my knowledge, it has not been separately inspected by police, insurance representatives, or NHTSA. Whether Hyundai corporate/manufacturer representatives have directly inspected the vehicle is UNKNOWN.Prior to and during these incidents, symptoms included the check-engine warning light, startup rattling/noise, engine hesitation/rough operation, and stalling at low speeds. Diagnostic codes were stored when the check-engine light appeared. The problems have occurred on more than 100 occasion rather than being a single isolated incident.

The contact stated that 2–3 quarts of oil needed to be added in between scheduled oil changes. The instrument cluster independently blanked and turned on and off. Additionally, the front driver's side seat belt failed to latch as intended, and the second-row seats failed to adjust as intended. The contact stated that when the seat adjustment switch was pushed to move the seat forward, the seat was stuck in the middle. The failures occurred intermittently since the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to several alternate dealers; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where it was diagnosed with radiator failure. The contact was informed that the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was informed that no other failures were found. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V034000 (Air Bags) and 25V607000 (Seat Belts). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and several cases were filed. The contact requested a vehicle buyback; however, the request was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

We purchased this used 2022 Hyundai Palisade SLE vehicle on XXX at a Nissan dealership with 95,492 miles. While my spouse was driving the vehicle on the highway on XXX the failed child safety lock alarm notification displayed on the screen and the 2nd row actuators began flicking on and off, like it was exorcist. My [XXX] toddler with special needs rides in the back so we were concerned the doors might pop open if they were not locking properly. We took picture of the alarm display. The next day XXX, before we signed the sales contract , we informed the dealership of the safety hazard. They proceeded to take vehicle back and we hav a loaner vehicle in the meantime. After a week, we were informed that the Hyundai dealership did not find anything wrong with the door locks. When we proceeded to pick up the Palisade on XXX, we were able to recreate the problem right away before even driving the vehicle. All we did was unlock the suv, and when we attempted to open the back doors, the actuators kept clicking on and off on both doors on the 2nd row of the suv. I emailed and texted pictures and video to the sales representative Carlos Cortez, the finance rep Ruben Mendoza and the service manager Mike Moore. Mike contacted me next day early morning via telephone, they could not recreate the problem and would consult with a Mastertech. I explained that all we did was unlock the suv with the fab and tried opening the 2nd row door manually and the exorcist possession of the actuators reocurred. I also emailed him the Palisade Forum weblink: [XXX] that shows that shows that this is occurring to many other Palisade and Santa Fe owners and they have been some repairs done such as replacing wiring harness , actuators and windows to fix the problem. On 7/22/26 at about 5:15pm, I was operating my vehicle, a 2022 Hyundai Palisade in the Parking lot of Publix Supermarket at Valrico Commons and was attempting to enter a parking space. I made a right from the parking thruway to enter a right parking space. I felt one of the right wheels graze the pedestrian sidewalk as I was driving about 5 miles per hour, next thing the vehicle lunged forward out of control and though I tried applying the brakes, the brakes would not respond. As a result, my vehicle ending up hitting a parking pole, which resulted in two vehicles parked opposite to me being hit by the pole. There was no one in the parked vehicles.

SUMMARY Filing complaint under 49 U.S.C. § 30120 against Hyundai Motor America & Checkered Flag Hyundai for failure to remedy a seatbelt defect in reasonable time, misallocating parts, and refusing escalation. Seatbelts randomly unlatch while driving with my family, posing fatality risk in a collision. CHRONOLOGY • Dec 2025: Requested repair; dealer cited backorder. • Apr 2026: Opened Hyundai Corporate case due to delay. • Mid-June 2026: Corporate stated parts arrived at dealer. • July 3, 2026: Left car all day for appointment. At pickup, dealer stated parts were NOT in stock; no repair done. • July 13, 2026: Emailed Rep Nasim demanding supervisor escalation, timeline, and giving NHTSA notice. • July 22, 2026: - Nasim called stating parts arrived; agreed to hold parts at dealer. - Joy (Parts) confirmed parts in stock; agreed to label box with my name. - <1 Min Later: Crystal (Service) stated parts were NOT available, revealing 3 arrived but were given away. Stated Parts Mgr Brian would call back. Called Joy back; sent to unreachable voicemail. - Nasim refused supervisor escalation, claiming no way exists to escalate the recall issue itself, but offered to re-escalate parts. Refused compensation claiming car is "drivable" despite unlatching. Denied call logs. VIOLATIONS 1. Exceeded 8 months without remedy for restraint failure. 2. Verified parts in stock with Parts (Joy), contradicted <1 min later by Service (Crystal) stating parts were given away. 3. Rep Nasim refused supervisor escalation on recall handling, claiming no way exists to escalate recall issues. 4. Misclassified active unlatching failure as "drivable." REQUESTED NHTSA ACTION 1. ODI Investigation into recall parts handling & escalation refusals. 2. Direct Hyundai to execute immediate repairs AND provide financial compensation for 8+ months of hazard exposure.

The steering wheel locked, the brakes stopped working, and the car would not accelerate. The vehicle died mid drive placing her in a dangerous life threatening predicament within this heavily trucked corridor. She was left to block traffic until help arrived. On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation. Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use. This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier. These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. On August 15, 2022, Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) filed a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-627) of 122,919 model year (MY) 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced from April 10, 2019 to November 30, 2020. This recall addressed windshield wipers that may function intermittently or stop functioning when impeded by the accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. Intermittent or inoperative windshield wipers could reduce driver visibility while operating the vehicle in inclement weather, increasing the risk of a crash.On December 2, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 6 consumer complaints alleging windshield wiper failures while driving during wintry precipitation in MY 2021-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles (subject vehicles). These vehicles were excluded from Recall 22V-627. At the time of opening the RQ, the root cause and recall remedy were still unknown and under investigation. Thus, the RQ was opened to assess the scope and remedy of Recall 22V-627.In its February 10, 2023 response to ODI's information request on the RQ, Hyundai provided 17 customer complaints and 75 warranty claims related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Hyundai stated that the wiper systems in the subject vehicles are equipped with a different wiper motor design than the earlier-built Palisade vehicles included in Recall 22V-627. Hyundai also stated it does not believe there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the wiper system in subject vehicles.On March 17, 2023, Hyundai filed a new safety recall (NHTSA Recall 23V-180) of 167,085 MY 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles produced from December 1, 2020 to November 22, 2022 when a design change was implemented. The design change, as well as the recall remedy (for both Recalls 22V-627 and 23V-180), is a redesigned driver-side wiper arm that allows for additional snow accumulation between the wiper arm and the cowl, thus reducing the load on the wiper motor and circuit breaker activation.In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this RQ.
