A detached front control arm can result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front cross members. Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied, or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one, free of charge. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-21-001. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall number 20V-279. Owners not previously notified under 20V-279 were notified on March 22, 2021.

Risk

Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front cross members. Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began August 7, 2020. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-20-003.
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Outlander Sport vehicles. Water may enter between the hood and windshield and cause the front wiper link ball joint to corrode, possibly resulting in the wiper link separating and the wipers becoming inoperative.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Loss of wiper function can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rod of the wiper link and the wiper motor crank arm, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 10, 2018. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-18-004.
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Outlander and 2013-2016 Outlander Sport vehicles. Water may enter the rear brake calipers causing the parking brake actuator shafts to corrode and possibly bind.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear brake calipers and replace the parking brake boot and lever or the brake caliper body, as necessary. Dealers will also replace the piston assembly of the rear brake caliper. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 27, 2018. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-18-002.

Failure of the wiper motor can cause a loss of visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper motor, free of charge. The manufacturer has begun the recall, but parts are not yet available; a second notice will be sent when parts are available. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured July 20, 2012, to July 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the front passenger seat belt lap end attachment fastener may not be torqued to specification, and the fastener may loosen with time.

Risk
A loosened and weakened fastener may not be capable of withstanding the load forces associated with a vehicle crash, leaving the seat occupant insufficiently restrained and increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt lap end attachment fastener, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2014. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-714-372-6000. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-011.

In February of 2025 I was driving on the highway and my car stopped accelerating and the “ASC system required” light turned on. The RPM stayed at 4,000-5,000 and my car dropped from 60MPH to 20MPH. I had to drive on the side of the highway 20 minutes home like this. I took the car into a shop and they said the exhaust and catalytic converter was clogged and replaced it. It ran okay after that for about 3 weeks and then the same thing started to happen again. I have had to pull onto the side of the highway about 10-15 times as of writing this to restart my car/drive home going 20-30MPH. I brought it to the Mitsubishi dealership last week and they said I will need a whole new exhaust manifold, muffler, and catalytic converter due to it “being clogged” and quoted me just over 6,000 for it to be fixed even though I just replaced all of this in February. They did not give me an explanation as to why this is happening or explaining what is causing the “ASC system service required” light to go off.

Airbags should never fail, nor should brakes. no matter miles or salt on road. if salt corodes a certain part than it must be an aloy that will not corrode. also brake lines should not ever rust they too should be coated with epoxy or alloy metals that are impervious to salt...

The contact owns a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine and the ASC warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven to a nearby independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the PCM needed to be updated. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB Number: 13−13−008. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at her own expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,400.

The contact replaced the battery; however, while driving, the vehicle jerked and hesitated to respond upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The traction control warning light and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the map sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the vehicle was not covered under Mitsubishi Campaign Number: SR−16−006. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.

I was on the freeway and all of the sudden the transmission stopped working and I was unable to get to the side of the road safely do to loss of power and traffic conditions. There was transmission warning light that came on and right after that when I pressed on the acceleration the engine would rev, but there was no reaction to the gears. This resulted in me being stuck in an active lane of traffic and nearly being hit several times. I called the police and informed them because I didn’t want to cause an accident but do to another accident I was stranded for 50 minutes in the active lane of traffic. Apparently this is a known issue with this transmission but the manufacturer is not responding and issued a recall like it needs to. Something like this could get someone seriously injured or killed! I’m lucky no one was injured in my situation but on a very busy freeway something like this could cause a huge pile up if a car all of the sudden is just stopped in the middle of the road. Who knows how many people could be hurt or die in a situation like that happening.

Electrical power steering IS going out. sterling/moaning when I enter or leave a parking space. A new thing has been added - the brakes 'catch' when I make a hard brake and I wonder if the two are associated with each other.

Vehicle was at dealer ship for recalls. Rear calipers still lock up slightly from emergency brake actuator issue. The dealer replaced the actuator lever but never removed the caliper to disassemble and clean out corrosion behind piston. Stuart said the springs were replaced. I looked and can see the origonal rusty springs. The brakes still slightly lock up on the rears.

The air bags did not deploy upon impact. No injuries were reported and a police report was not filed. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent body shop where she was informed that her lower control was the cause of the failure; she was given an estimate for the repair. Months after the accident, the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 20v279000 (structure, suspension) which she linked to her failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

The front door (passenger side) has rusted all along the botton of the door. in addition there IS a noise coming from the door when you open and close it. sounds like something IS loose inside the door between the outer door and the inner door. there IS no rust on the rest of the car.

Continues to be an issue, cannot get parts to fix it anywhere including mitsubishi. Called a dealer 2 weeks ago to order and still waiting for the part to come in.

The contact was driving in stop and go traffic in hot weather at the time of the message. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission pump failed. The mechanic checked all over the nation and could not find a used transmission because of the recall issues. Fuccillo mitsubishi (18822 US-11, watertown, ny 13601, (800) 244-1745) stated that the warranty was expired and the repair would cost more than $8,000. The manufacturer was contacted and rudely stated that they were not going to issue a recall just for the contact's vehicle and it was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 106,500.

Since I've owned the vehicle there have been two prior recalls concerning the wiper motors. The last repair was not right and I complained to any that would listen yet nothing was done. Now my wiper blade motor IS failing in the same way as the prior recall spoke of. My blades function erratically and do not come back to rest in the park position. Based on other reviewers, I find this to be a concern for more than just myself. I had to purchase a brand new transmission at $7,100. Total miles IS 56,000. when on the highway, and attempting to accelerate. The rpms would shoot up, but the transmission felt like it would not shift gears. I had trouble at times speeding up on the highway. This could have also resulted in a bad accident.

They are saying this recall does not affect my vin #. My car IS also a 2014, I think you need to revise your recall to include my vin # and all others that were produced the same day, as the same thing IS happening to mine and avoid loss of life and the liabilities that can come from that.

Prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v792000 (visibility) and the windshield wiper motor was replaced. In addition, the window regulator was replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred five days after the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 59,800.

- 10178985This Advanced Technical Information Notice was sent to dealers as an update to ATIN-20-SR-003B informing that due to a parts availability delay of the Crossmember, customer vehicles requiring a replacement of the crossmember are unable to be completed at this time. Additionally, this notice informed dealers that an Interim Owner Notification Letter was mailed to affected owners on July 17th, 2020 to inform customers that MMNA is making every effort to establish a remedy and will contact them again by mail with a follow-up recall notice once parts are in stock and the final remedy is available.
