The braun corporation has notified nhtsa about a defect in certain model year 2005-2008 general motors mobility conversion, handicapped accessible low floor minivans. during conversion, the driver or passenger side trailing arm modification may not have been adequately welded.
A squeaking or clunking noise may develop. the trailing arm bushings may prematurely wear and the trailing arm may fracture or separate, allowing the rear axle to become partially separated from the chassis increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and will have a supply of retrofit parts available to remedy the vehicles free of charge. the safety recall began on june 4, 2010. owners may contact braun at 1-800-488-0359.
Certain trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 110, "tire selection and rims." these vehicles were shipped with tire and loading information labels listing an inacccurate vehicle capacity weight.
A misprinted label could lead to improper vehicle loading specifications or tire inflation which could result in a tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners will be provided with corrected labels and installation instructions. at the customer's option, a dealer can install the label for them. the recall began on march 31, 2006. owners may contact buick at 1-866-608-8080, cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, hummer at 1-800-732-5493, pontiac at 1-800-620-7668, saturn at 1-800-972-8876, or isuzu at 1-800-255-6727.
When having my oil changed at a garage while the vehicle was on the lift both frame rails had severe rust damage. Since this IS what gives the unibody frame it's strength, why didn't gm zinc coat them or apply rust proofing? I live in southeast michigan where they use salt on the roads in winter. Seeing gm IS also in michigan you would think they would be aware of this and act accordingly? The only reason I can think of IS to save money, increase profits, at the expense of the vehicle being safe for the consumer. I don't see designing the frame rails to last for 20-25 years for safety reasons as being unreasonable.
When it's cold and you start the vehicle I get a message reduced engine power. You have to immediately shut it off. Som etimes when you are driving down the road and it IS warmed up it will do this and you have to find a safe place to pull over because if you try to give it gas it won't go anyways. I think it IS a safety hazard because it can happen when you are going 70 mph on the interstate and cars are right on your ass. Luckily I wasn't on the interstate but I was on a highway going 60mph when it happened.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 pontiac montana. While driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal rubbing sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear suspension detached from the subframe of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics and the contact was informed that the failure was due to excessive corrosion of the subframe. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. The vin was not available.
When starting the vehicle, or after awhile when you are driving the vehicle it will come up and read reduced engine power then you have to stop because it will not let you accelerate the gas pedal. sometimes when you turn it off and restart it, it will be fine and sometimes you have to wait about 10 minutes then restart. it doesn't matter if you are on a side street or on the highway, it just randomly does this.
The dash keeps telling me that the traction control and stability system need to be checked. I have wiring issues for the passenger side front lights, they come on and off. Fuel gauge does not read properly all the time and now most recently the passenger seat belt alarm does not register that the seat belt IS connected. The vehicle experiences these issues moving and stationary.
Tires are showing signs of extreme sidewall splits that could have led to tire blowout at highway speeds. tires will be taken back to store where bought although not optimistic they will replace them. Dunlop signature series II all season

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. In addition, the contact stated that the fuel cap failure light and engine warning light illuminated. The independent mechanic replaced the fuel cap several times; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.

When driving sometimes the vehicle will just shut off will lose all steering and brakes will not work either. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2006 pontiac montana. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the engine stalled and the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact also stated that the vehicle had electrical system failures due to the wires being cut and glued back together. In addition, the headlights were flickering. The failure occurred on eight occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.
My wife was driving along a country road when the passenger side rear ball joint separated, causing the rear to drop and pulling the vehicle to the side. Thankfully, it was not the driver's side, because she was passing a school and the buses were leaving. I had the vehicle towed to a garage where we inspected it. although the ball joint was a lifetime lubricated unit, it was worn and failed. Upon further inspection, the driver's side was worn and, in the interest of safety, was replaced, as well. Total cost was $1403.44. when researching for recalls, I discovered that there IS a recall in canada for this exact problem on this vehicle, but there IS none in the us, although they were all built in the same plant!. Here's the link for the canadian recall: http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/7/vrdb-bdrv/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&mk=1890&md=montana%20sv6&fy=0&ty=9999&ft=&ls=0&sy=0&rn=2006199&cf=searchresult&pg=0. *tr
While driving the car brake on its own. This has happened several time in the past couple of months. I plug in the computer to check the trouble codes and I have pulled 8 different codes. My family refuses to drive the vehicle because of the hazard. *tr
I purchased 4 goodyear assurance touring tires (p225/60r17 98T) from sam's club in may, 2011. they've been regularly inspected, balanced and rotated as part of sam's club tire warranties. on january 28, 2011, we happened to park the van just right so that the tires were turned sharply to the left. at that time it was visibly noticeable that there was a huge piece of rubber missing (about 3-4 inches long and 3 inches wide) from the sidewall and metal was exposed. We took the van to sam's where they first tried to say it was due to alignment issues (the van had recently had the alignment fixed), but when it was pointed out that it was not worn completely around and only on one spot, they replaced the tire. we thought nothing of it. About 2 months later, I woke up to drive the kids to school and tire #2 was flat. brought it in to sam's, they found a nail or something in it, and plugged it. But when they tested it later, it wasn't holding air. The sidewall had a crack in it, not replaceable. Changed tire #2. April 30, try to leave to pick up kids from school, tire #3 IS flat (had just driven on it that morning). Take it to sam's, huge crack in the sidewall. At this point, its not really funny anymore. Wondering what kind of recall this tire may be under because its not available at the store anymore. June 24, the van was shaking as we were driving, pulled over, and sure enough, huge gash of exposed metal on the inside sidewall. Four tires in less than 6 months, ruined. Tires rated for 70,000 miles and with less than 25,000 miles on them. All holes, cracks, or exposed metal are on the inside sidewall where the tire had started to bulge. Thankfully, we caught it just in time or we could have been in a very serious accident! So disappointed that this tire has not been recalled and that I've still had to pay for the replacement tires!! *tr
Traction control and anti-lock brakes both keep going out with both lights on. Both reset after shut down but come back on after 1-2 mins. *tr
The main wiring harness loom that runs across the transmission and under the air box, was rubbing the transmission and wore thru 4 of the wires causing the engine to shut down. *tr
Transmission locks up in park when parked and can not be released until the vehicle IS pushed while someone IS pulling down on the shift lever. results in being stranded unless someone IS available to push. *tr
Passenger side electronic door IS not shutting properly. door was shut with child safety looks in place however, when I was driving down the road the door just popped open without any warning. no bells, no messages, nothing...until the door was already half way open. my children sit in this vehicle, and thank god for safety belts or someone could have gotten killed. now the door closes when it wants and the system will think it IS latched when it isn't, and the door will open while driving. major safety issue. *tr
Was driving on freeway when got a message on dic saying "engine power reduced" seconds later vehicle dropped to 10 mph and would not go any faster. Rpm dropped to 300. Almost got rear ended.dealer said it was an app sensor, replaced and happened again. Said it was a mass air flow sensor, replaced and happened again. Continuing to happen and dealer said they cant "reproduce the problem" . *tr
We've been having an issue with the van decelerating on its own and having to lay down on the gas to get it going again. still havn't found out what it IS. now our "AWD disabled" light came on. this worries me because we live in mn and have terrible roads in the winter. that IS one reason we bought this van IS for the AWD. *tr
2006 pontiac montana, unit 1 was westbound on the ohio turnpike in the left lane at the 136.9 milepost. unit 1 had it's left rear tire blow out, lost control, went off the left side of the roadway and struck the median barrier. *bf (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0184-90)*jb updated 04/22/11 *bf
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 pontiac montana. While driving 55 mph there was a thumping sound and a screeching noise causing the vehicle fish tail. The vehicle was driven onto the side of the road where he noticed that the tire was leaning into the wheel well and the right rear ball joints were broken. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the ball joints and the tire. He had to pay for the repairs since there was no warranty or recall. The failure occurred previously on the left rear tire where the ball joint was broken. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.
Power sliding door not closing power sliding door opening while driving. *Tr
My 2006 pontiac montana SV6 was parked on a small incline, and while low on fuel (it had about 3 gallons) the van acted as if it was out of gas and would not start. gas had to be added and the van pushed to a flat surface. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Odi evaluated general motors' (gm) data, conducted consumer interviews, inspected and tested my 2005-2007 gm minivans with regard to the alleged defect of a power sliding door (psd) opening while the vehicle IS out of park.odi identified a high warranty claim rate.however, these claims are related to various problems associated with doors not properly opening or closing and not specifically to doors opening while driving.the condition of the psd reversing direction during the closing sequence IS consistent with an obstruction of the door, or with improper alignment of the door, and this IS addressed in gm technical service bulletin # 07-08-64-007 and bulletins # 07-08-64-007a through d.odi's evaluation of the psd system notes numerous safeguards to preclude both unintentional and intentional power opening of the psd while the vehicle IS in motion.a safety-defect trend has not been identified at this time.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.[see document file for additional information regarding this resume.]
Odi has received reports that the power sliding doors opened without command while the vehicle was in motion on model year 2005 and 2006 general motors minivans (chevrolet uplander/venture, pontiac montana sv6/montana, buick terraza, and saturn relay).some reports indicate that the door may not have been closed and latched before driving away causing the door to reverse (open) at low vehicle speeds.however, other reports indicate that the door was initially shut then opened after driving for several minutes and/or miles at vehicle speeds between 20 and 70 mph.odi has upgraded this preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis (ea07-019) to further assess this issue.
