Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles to make them fully compliant or Volkswagen will repurchase them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 29, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.

Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Risk
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternative inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 16, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-078.

Risk
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflators, free of charge. Volkswagen issued an interim notification to owners on April 12, 2016, and will send a second notification when parts are available. Volkswagen will notify owners again once parts are available. Volkswagen owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Risk
A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective cover over the steering wheel clock spring if the air bag light is off. If the airbag light is on and the steering wheel clock spring requires replacement, dealers will install a new steering wheel clock spring. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987.

The contact stated while having a routine check at the dealer, the mechanic informed the contact that the horn was not functioning and that the clockspring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the clockspring needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty or recall. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 108,000.

I pressed the steering wheel to activate the HORN. The HORN did not work. My VW dealer (Valenti VW, Watertown, CT) after 1.5 hours determined the the spring on the steering wheel that activates the horn and possibly the airbag is broken. The spring is broken and is back ordered since 12/20/2021. VW IS ACUTELY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 years and 100,000 miles. This is a very serious safety issue.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Eos. The contact stated that while driving, the heater inside the front passenger seat erroneously activated and malfunctioned causing the seat to burn which also caused a burn to the bottom of the front passenger seat. There was a hole on the front passenger side seat and during the incident, it burned through the passenger's undergarments and jeans causing his burn injuries. Medical treatment was not provided due to the injured passenger not being able to sit and was being treated at home. During the incident, a burning odor was present inside the vehicle. The fire department was called to the scene and the electrical wire to the seat was deactivated. The cause of the failure was not determined. A fire report was taken at the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

I had to do onot my own, but what I learned trough one of my friends, IS that exist a recall for that. I will appreciate if you confirm this for me - the second issue IS the rear camera didn't work properly when my car was 40000 miles. I reported this case several times, and I did the same process calling customers services, and they told me that the possible damage IS a consequence of , manufacture, and they fixed 3 times same problem. I pai'd from my package, and what I learned IS that exist a recalls for this. I would like to be confirmed, because they need to reimburse my money.

Takata recall on 10/19/18 I took my car to the dealership so that they could install the new airbag inflator kit due to the recall. a few days later I noticed my horn was not working. I returned to the dealership on 11/9/18 only to be told I need to replace the entire airbag because the brackets connecting to the airbag are not sending a good signal to the horn. however I went online and one of the items clearly called out with the recall IS "do not pull on the horn switch feed pigtail wire to disengage the connector from the driver airbag housing or to disconnect the horn switch to steering wheel wire harness connection. Improper pulling on this pigtail wire or connection can result in damage to the horn switch membrane or feed circuit." although I have a warranty I was told my issue IS not covered and that I need to pay $598.00 pre tax to fix the issue. based on what IS documented online it would seem an error occurred with the installation of the airbag inflator kit impacting my horn. I did ask the dealership what other issues could this cause and if the airbag was impacted they explained since the airbag indicator light was not on nothing was wrong with the airbag. however the indicator light was not on with this recall either but something was horribly wrong. I'D like any assistance to confirm this horn issue IS not related to the replacement dealing with the takata recall. thank you.

I took the car in as part of the takata inflator recall. everything in the car was working when I dropped off the car. now the dealership wants $700 plus to repair the horn, ignition lock, controls on the steering wheel that control the volume and menu buttons on the display panel. these items were working when I dropped off the car. vwoa has stated due to the age of the car and the mileage, these items are not covered under warranty. they were working when I brought the car to the dealership, momentum volkswagen of clear lake. I dropped the car off on october 16TH at 9 am for an 9:15 appointment, they called around 11 am saying the car needed $700 plus to repair the horn, ignition lock, and the buttons on the steering wheel. I wasn't going to pay for it, they were working when I dropped the car off. the dealership contacted management at VW and they said they were not going to pay for it. the service supervisor IS calling someone else at the dealership to see about getting the problem resolved. I contacted VW of america customer service at 800-822-8987, talked to kay c., the leadership team at vwoa said because of the age of the car and mileage, these items are not covered under warranty. so it IS my fault that the recall takes over 5 years to get to my car, what if I had been in an accident and died due to shards severing my arteries in my neck and I bleed to death in an otherwise beign accident, while waiting for the airbag to be replaced. if I had not taken the car to the dealership for the air bag recall, my steering wheel controls and horn would still be working. so this free replacement recall IS costing me three days without a car, and whatever it costs to repair what the dealership broke..

In August 2015, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened an investigation based on consumer allegations of steering wheel clock spring/steering column control module (SCCM) failures in model year (MY) 2012 Volkswagen Passat and CC models.The SCCM is a module within the steering column that incorporates a spiral conductor (a ribbon cable) to electrically connect the steering wheel to the vehicle's electrical system while allowing for the turning of the steering wheel.Complainants alleged that that the clock spring failed while driving and without warning.When the SCCM fails electrically, an air bag warning light is illuminated on the dash of the vehicle.If a vehicle with a failed SCCM were to be involved in a crash of sufficient severity to require deployment, the driver air bag may not deploy properly, or deploy at all.As the result of an Information Request response from Volkswagen, ODI determined that the same SCCM was used in several vehicle models and MYs including: 2010-2013 CC, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2013 Golf, 2012-2013 Jetta and Jetta SportWagen, 2010 and 2012-2014 Passat and 2011-2014 Tiguan.ODI identified a total of 29 NHTSA complaints across all affected vehicles potentially indicating a failed SCCM.Drivers often indicated that an audible noise was heard from the steering column when the unit failed. Some drivers also mentioned that there was a noticeable but minor resistance to turning of the steering wheel after the failure with noises coming from the steering column.The average failure mileage is approximately 30,500 miles and failures often occur outside of the factory warranty.There were no reported crashes or injuries identified in either the NHTSA or Volkswagen data as a result of SCCM failures.On July 30th, 2015 Volkswagen notified ODI that it would conduct a safety recall (15V-483) to remedy the SCCMs in 415,825 MY2010-2014 vehicles.According to Volkswagen, the SCCM can become contaminated with human hair or similar fibers entering the unit between the steering wheel and steering column.Over time this can cause the electrical cable to tear and lose connection between the steering wheel and vehicle.Volkswagen will install a cover that attaches over the SCCM to help prevent contaminants from entering the unit.A new SCCM designed to reduce outside contamination intrusion was previously introduced into new vehicle production during the 2014 model year; accordingly vehicles equipped with the new design SCCM are not included in the recall.The recall action initiated by the manufacturer addresses the safety risks identified by the investigation.Accordingly, the investigation is closed.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues under the following identification (ODI) numbers: 10760644, 10758777, 10748922, 110734168, 10731545, 10721424, 10717651, 10715305, 10713742, 10713139, 10712295, 10711945, 10704830, 10704221, 10702926, 10702212, 10701406, 10691906, 10683944, 10682136, 10672715, 10670517, 10669312, 10628549, 10607240, 10575783, 10561143, 10552113, 10397670.
