Risk
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag module or inflator depending on the vehicle model, free of charge. The recall began March 9, 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

My tires are worn out past acceptable to pass state inspection and yet the dealer inspected my car and passed it and registered it. Chassis corroded and wheels rotting. I bought the car on the 14tyh and dealer didn't deliver it until the 21ST because of apparent missing title. The car needed service and air filter and during the service, the other (BMW) dealer found the issues attached. I have documentation listing a 90 limited warranty and was wondering if the purchase dealer owes me to fix some of those items, particularly tires that are beyond safe. I almost skid and hit another car today on the highway due to the poor state of the tires....

On march 29, 2019 I took my car in due to a coolant indicator warning light. nalley BMW indicated it was due to a need for a radiator. this IS the fourth radiator nalley BMW and global BMW have replaced with the last two years. I have paid out of pocket for repairs associated with the four replacements of a radiator in under two years. they will repair the radiator and allow delivery of the vehicle back to me. I will drive about 500 more miles before the coolant light comes back on indicating trouble. each time, the coolant light comes on, the radiator has had to be replaced. this happens at all times. March 29TH would make the fourth time the radiator has been replaced in under two years.

The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the contact exited the vehicle. The contact was immediately alerted by someone that the vehicle was on fire. The fire was extinguished by the rain. A fire report was not filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to braman BMW jupiter (561-609-0144, located at 1555 w indiantown rd, jupiter, fl 33458) where the contact was assigned a technician to oversee an investigation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and ordered an investigation. The contact did not state if the vehicle was totaled; however, the manufacturer offered to buy back the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 47,800.

Takata recall - I received a recall letter from the BMW dealership stating the recall of the driver's air-bag, that they have the necessary parts to complete the recall. when I called to schedule the service I was informed that they had to order the part. I called on10/16/17, was informed as soon as the part was in they would call me. I called again today, 12/20/17 and was told that the part was still about 13 weeks out. the manufacturer was only sending the dealership about 20 airbags at a time and that the IS the reason that it IS taking so long. My complaint IS that it will take over 23 weeks for me to receive the part/airbag that I need to have replaced. my recall letter stated that if the BMW center IS unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable period of time that I should notify the administrator, national highway traffic safety administration. the letter for the recall IS dated september 2017.

On highway, when speed reaches between 60 to 80 mph, the car feels unstable. It IS like the two front tires are running out of air and I have to fight to steer the car to keep it going in a straight line. I took it into two dealerships and they tested the alignment and inflated the tires to manufacturer's specs but it did not solve the issue. They told me that was all they could do and nothing else.

I talked w/ the sales person I bought the car from and she told me she would call me back w/ status and have never heard back from her. It's very frustrating to keep receiving these airbag recall notice from BMW and when I call to see when they can repair my car, I never hear back from them.

I was also told that the parts are now on back order, so there IS no way to get the airbag repaired in a timely manner. I spoke with BMW USA & they advised that yes, they are limiting how many recalls can be repaired each week, but that the parts are not on back order. she advised I try a larger dealer in my area or complain to the service manager as they can magically get things repaired. I am working with the largest dealer in the region - so, since now I am having problems getting repairs made I'm contacting you to help me. I want to get rid of the car as the service IS horrible and my safety IS at risk!!!

When I first called them about the airbag they told me they didin't have the replacement airbag and that they would let me know when they have it. in sept of this year, I got a notice in the mail from BMW of north america, telling me they had the replacement parts in stock and to call my local BMW dealer immediately to schedule the repair. I called BMW of honolulu on 9/21 to make an appointment and the lady I talked to told me she was in charge of the airbag recall. I asked for an appoint asap and she told me that the computer system was down and that she would call me back the same day. Today IS sat, 10/14 and no one has called me back to tell me what's going on or when or if they can do the repair. All BMW does IS send these dire letters to make me worry but, they don't do anything or let me know what's happening.

I called BMW manufacturing today and the told me my vehicle IS in group #6 and zone b and that I would be receiving a notice sometime between sept 30 2017 and dec 31 2017 for scheduling a appointment to fix the my air bag.

Takata recall this recall began february 2016 for my vehicle model. as of 3/16/17 this has yet to be corrected. bmwfs and BMW na have both refused to provide any compensation for lack of use, and are actively preventing the vehicle lease from being transferred to another individual. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle in my current location. I was informed that I would not be able to get a replacement of the defective part until at least july of this year, leaving me without a vehicle.

After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant…
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

- 10151404Vibration or Shudder from Driveline when Accelerating from a Stop. Chassis stabilization warning is displayed. Vehicle may exhibit a shudder or vibration when taking off from a stop. One or more of the following fault codes may be stored: LMV ? 440101 - Transfer box (VTG): End of transmission service life reached ? 440105 - Transfer box (VTG ) Calibration Faulty ? 440115 - Transfer box (VTG): Calibration angle deviation outside tolerance? 44011B - Set torque outside of the torque characteristic curve EGS ? 420611 - DSC interface (wheel speed): non-permitted deviation of wheel speed (actual speed of wheel RL/FL/RR/FR, 0x254) from output speed and turbine speed DSC ? 48097D - Transfer box: Fault, clutch position known, only rear-wheel drive These symptoms or faults would be stored on a vehicle with low mileage (< 12,500 miles). CAUSE A front or rear differential with the incorrect gear ratio was installed in the car. The front and rear differentials need to be geared exactly the same for the xDrive to function properly.

- 10149355. INFORMATION To properly diagnose the customer's complaint, the applicable test plan for the misfire faults stored in the DME must be performed to avoid repeat repairs. If a misfire fault is not stored in the DME memory and an engine related drivability complaint is received, follow the path below to manually start the misfire test plan (AT1214_TVD4_MISFIRE_20): 1. Perform a vehicle test. 2. Select "Function Structure." 3. Select "01 Engine." 4. Select "Engine electronics MEVD." 5. Select "Misfire detection." 6. Follow the steps in the test plan and select "Basic check (start)" first. Do not select "Additional check" at this time. 7. If the result of the "Basic check" indentifies a fuel system component failure, replace the identified component. If the result of the "Basic check" test plan was inconclusive, go to step 7. After the component replacement, perform the "Basic check" portion of the test plan again to verify if the diagnosis was correct and the vehicle condition has been rectified.

- 10148273Check Control Messages Related to Battery Charge During Cold Ambient Temperatures. On cold days with an outside ambient temperature of less than 15F, customers may notice a check control message related to the battery that is displayed on the instrument cluster and the control information display. Under these conditions, the vehicle starts. Various power management faults can be stored: * 213901 - Power management: Reduction or shutdown of individual electrical consumer * 8040BD - Reset or deactivation of Terminal 30F * 8040B9 - De-activation of terminal 30B: Top start capability limit reached * 8020E8 - Reset or deactivation of terminal 30F * 800E89 - FRM: start capability limit reached with lights active during stationary mode * 93076B - Deactivation of terminal 30B: upper start capability limit reached * 93076A - Deactivation of terminal 15: upper start capability limit reached, but deactivation preventer active * 93076C - Deactivation of terminal 30B: upper start capability limit reached, but deactivation preventer or legal loads active * 930769 - Deactivation of terminal 15: upper start capability limit reached Note: When the outside temperatures drop below 46F, the charging system is switch to full charge. CAUSE * The check control message (ID 229) is caused by a heavily discharged battery. * The check control message is triggered when the current state of charge (SoC) of the battery approaches the minimum SoC that is required to start the vehicle (start capability limit). * In low outside ambient temperatures, the start capability limit of the vehicle is higher. Therefore it takes more energy from the battery to start a cold engine. * Without the early warning of the check control message, the current state of charge would drop below the start capability limit and the vehicle would not start. * The vehicle's intelligent power management system actively takes measures to increase the charge of the battery, such as increasing idle speed and reducing or shutting
- 10148218N20 and N26 Injector Replacement. INFORMATION When a defective high-pressure fuel injector is identified with an index "02" designation, as shown in the illustration below, all 4 injectors must be replaced at the same time. This bulletin only applies to index "02" injectors. Index "01" and index "03" or higher are not affected. No immediate repair is required unless the BMW vehicle is currently experiencing this problem.

Scenario: z The customer leaves the vehicle and turns his or her phone off. z He or she turns the phone back on. z He or she enters the vehicle, but does not unlock the phone and start driving. Result: z The phone reconnects to the Bluetooth system (normal). z However, it does not transfer the contact list (not normal). z The contact list in the iDrive will be empty. z The call list in the Kombi will display only phone numbers, but no names. z The hands-free system works for accepting calls and conversing on calls started on the phone. Solution: z Prior to the customer entering the vehicle they must unlock the phone (passkey) With the release of Apple's new iPhone 6, 6 Plus and iOS 8.x software, there have been many questions regarding the new phone and software. The information in the attachment to this Service Information will help answer these questions. A printed copy can be given to the customer if needed. The attachment provides information on the differences between the new iPhone 6, 6 Plus and the previous versions, along with Apple software improvements in the following areas: 1. - 10148192Automated Activation of Navigation System During PDI/QC1. INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle through the iDrive controller, by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.
