Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. some of these vehicles were built with incorrect payload information on the vehicle certification label. the payload shown on the label IS greater than the maximum validated payload. if the vehicle were loaded to the incorrectly labeled payload, it may not ride and handle in the…
This could result in a loss of control of the vehicle or an inability to stop the vehicle within expected stopping distances.
Owners will be sent a new label for installation on the driver's door of the vehicle.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, sport utility vehicles, and MINI vans equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. the buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
Dealers will inspect the vehicle's safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any safety belt buckle assembly.
Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes. some of these vehicles have an antilock brake system (ABS) motor containing an out-of-specification spring clip. this clip could allow the motor bearing to become misaligned. if misalignment occurs, eventually the ABS would be non-functional.
The base brakes would remain fully functional, but the dynamic rear proportioning (drp) system, which optimizes front to rear brake balance, would become inoperative.
Dealers will replace the brake pressure module valve assembly.
Vehicle description: s -trucks equipped with 2 wheel drive. these vehicles may have had the right-hand antilock brake system (ABS) module feed pipe and/or brake crossover pipe tube nuts tightened without seating the pipe-flared-ends enough to withstand normal assembly and vehicle inputs without partially unseating. this does not comply with requirements…
If this occurred, the seating seal could be broken during vehicle assembly, or from early road inputs or brake fluid cycling, and a leak could occur increasing the brake stopping distance.
Dealers will inspect the brake pipe union for signs of brake fluid, and if necessary, install a new brake pipe union.
My dad purchased my truck from the church secretary where he attended in March of 2015. At the time of purchase it only had 66,000 miles on it. The secretary’s father owned it and used it from new until 6 months before we purchased it and only used it to help feed his cows. 1. Window washer motor circuit 2. Seatbelt need’s stitched 3. The overload sticker is wrong Came in after we purchased the truck but my dad was sick and he passed away 3/8/2016 Coated brake rotor & hub assembly (86757CR)x2 Tie rod end (NCD 2693017)x2 Ball joint front lower (NCD 2601130)x2 Tie rod end control arm front left (NCD 2605330) Tie rod end control arm and ball joint front right upper (NCP 2605329) Tie rod adjusting sleeve front (NCD 2691109)x2 Idler arm assembly (NCD 2683654) Tie rod End outer (NCD 2683267)x2 Steering center link (NCD 2721591) TOO MUCH NOISE AND WHEN MAKING A PARKING LOT TURN IT FELT AND SOUNDED LIKE I WAS GONNA LOSE MY WHOLE FRONT END ON THE GROUND.

TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. While driving 26 mph around an s curve, the brakes pedal was applied, but seized. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an embankment and creek. The air bags did not deploy. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and sustained neck, nose, and eye injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The cause of the failures was not determined. The failure mileage was 230,000.
The top hinge of the driverside door IS worn allowing air and rain to enter the cabin. The small plastic sleeve in the top hinge appears to be broken or worn excessively.
The driver's seat has not been working properly for several months. The seat will not stay locked in place and this has created a dangerous situation, especially in intersections, when the truck has been in motion. Now that this has happened several times, I've been especially careful & prepared to move the seat back forward so I can again reach the pedals. My solution for the time being - placing a wooden 2X4 piece behind the seat so it will stay fixed. It's working, but it IS very inconvenient getting into or out of the seat. will try to repair or take to a shop if a recall IS not mandated.
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. While driving various speeds, the brake warning indicator illuminated. Also, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was oil leaking between the brake hose and front passenger wheel. The technician replaced the washer for the brake hose, but the failure recurred. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 99v220000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.
Center-vehicle mounted rear brake light melted its plastic housing which melted the wiring and mounts used to power the two lightbulbs in the center brake light, resulting in no functioning center brake light. This also made the interior light fall out of the roof as it IS attached to the same plastic housing. Only apparent fix IS to replace the entire old melted center brake light housing with a new one. Occurred under normal use with manufacturer recommended light bulbs in use.
Parking brake mechanism failed under normal use, will no longer engage parking brake. Pedal can be pushed down but will spring back and not engage. Unknown cause.
Alternator failed without warning while driving on a local highway at 45 mph. Vehicle remained operational without any lights, signals, gauges or speedometer until I came to a complete stop at a traffic signal where the engine misfired and died even while revving. Vehicle was left stranded at a 6 lane intersection without any hazard warning lights, indicators or other lights to warn oncoming vehicles that I was not moving resulting in may near incidents.
The brake lines burst while driving down the road under normal driving conditions and the brakes failed resulting in no braking power. Inspection by a mechanic determined that the brake lines had suddenly failed during braking and the fluid had drained out resulting in an immediate loss of braking power during my braking. Was driving at about 30 mph on a city street when I started to brake and they failed, was able to stop without injury due to manual transmission engine braking and a very bad parking brake.
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. While driving 60 mph over a patch of ice, the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact crashed into a street sign and pole along the highway. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained injuries to the back, neck, left shoulder, and chest, which required medical attention. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
In 2011 my husband was involved in an accident where a person turned in front of him as he was driving about 35 mph (according to the police report). His airbag did not deploy as it should have, and since that time he has suffered serious back problems. I wrote to chevy customer relations at the time, and was never given a satisfactory answer. After multiple letters and e-mails I finally gave up. Since that time my husband has had to take tylenol with codeine every single day simply to be able to accomplish day-to-day tasks. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. While driving the vehicle, an abnormal fuel odor was noticed from the rear of the vehicle. The contact noticed a leak from the fuel tank. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 262,870.
Driving normally, pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor; fortunately, I was close to home and no traffic that I managed to roll slowly home. Rusty brake lines causing brake fluid to leak by driver side door. Tried brakes again- totally not functional. Ironically read article about gm's problem with rusty break lines in their older model trucks. Making it a point to notify nhtsa that this problem affects S-10S as well as the bigger models. Conversations with friends indicate to me that this effects a lot of drivers. All gm truck owners should be alerted to problem. Under different conditions with higher speeds or traffic or pedestrians, this could have turned into a catastrophe. *tr
My complaint does not concern my vehicle. It IS the intensity of newer headlights and taillights on late model vehicles. it IS very difficult to drive with extremely bright lights shining from all directions. Instead of lighting area the newer lights seem to be a focused beam that IS blinding. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was noticed that the front frame was cracked and deteriorated to the point that it may fracture. The contact stated that cracks developed on the frame and the motor mount was not welded to the frame properly. The cracking progressed to the point that the frame was also deteriorating on the front driver and passenger sides. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the frame should have been welded all the way around the vehicle and it was only welded at the top. The dealer diagnosed that the front framing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
At any speed truck stops running. Pull over and restarts then goes for a while and dose it again. Start truck and key stays on have to turn it back by hand. Replaced starter once already in three months. *tr
2000 chevrolet S-10 while driving the brakes just grabbed and stopped the vehicle while engine was running. *mw the consumer does not like ABS. The dealer stated it was a safety feature. *Jb
Applied brakes 200+ feet from stop sign. Road surface was bumpy. ABS malfunctioned and gave no braking. Stopped vehicle with hand brake with slight overshoot of stop line. Removed fuse from ABS unit and have driven since with manual braking ignoring dash warning lights indicating that ABS wasn't working. This was a problem noticed prior to this incident and occurred only when brakes were applied on bumpy surfaces. *tr
Cable straps that hold the tailgate horizontal to the ground when the tailgate IS in the down position have rusted through and will no longer hold the tailgate in the horizontal position. there was a recall on this in approximately june of 2006. I received a card in the mail, took the vehicle in to the chevrolet dealer, and they advised me that parts were not available. This happened twice. I kind of gave up, until I discovered the part failure earlier this year. Unfortunately I have misplaced my card that they sent in the mail. Upon failure of this part, I took my vehicle in to a chevrolet dealer in september of 2014. They knew about the recall, so ran my vin # and said my vehicle vin# was not part of the recall. perhaps general motors didn't recall enough of the vin#s to find all of the part failures. *tr
I purchased this vehicle from our local chevrolet dealer on 10/04/2014. I filled the fuel tank on 10/06/2014 and drove it to my residence (about 15 miles.) when I got home, I noticed there was a streak of a liquid on my driveway when I was backing into my garage. I got out of my truck and noticed a fuel smell and got a trouble light to see if I could determine the source. it was running out below the fuel tank. I then took my floor jack and jacked up the vehicle so I could get a bucket under it to catch the fuel that was running on to the floor. I collected about 1 1/2 gallons. I called the dealer the next morning and they say I am obligated to pay to repair the truck. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet S10. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the engine stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle but the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the electric fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 15,000. Updated 11/20/14*lj..updated 11/24/14 *bf updated 05/4/02015 *js updated 08/30/2017*ct
Engine failure - had to be rebuilt at app. 75000 miles - both sides of cab bottom rear rusted out - first time brake failure 2013 - put brake on to put the truck in drive no brakes front right - aug 2014 brake failure - put brake on to put in drive no brakes. *tr
My ABS and emergency brake lights have been on ever sense I have bought the truck (mid 2014) and I can't seem to figure out why. I have read several places that say that some of the solder points in the ABS module have probably cracked and need to be repaired if it throws a certain code (and mine does). Haven't had the time or money to fix the problem as my truck IS my daily driver. Have noticed some slight pulsing in the brakes when stopping, but not enough to annoy you. The lights on the dash will annoy you though. I have also been chasing several vacuum leaks. One was by the brake master cylinder and another (from inside the cab) sounds like it's right above the transmission housing at the back of the engine (where you can't see). It's so bad that when I first start the engine and start to drive at 1/2 throttle, it has absolutely no power, but then picks back up again after about a 1/4 mile with no power. Because of the vacuum leak, I'm guessing, it sounds like I have a turbo on the truck from inside the cab. If you turn the radio off, you can definitely hear it. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
General motors IS conducting a special policy program for 903,464 owners of 2000 - 2003 model s/t vehicles through which owners may, at their option, either (1) periodically inspect the tailgate support cables installed in their vehicle and have the cables replaced if the cable coating exhibits any indications of damage or deterioration or (2) request that the tailgate support cables be replaced free of charge. Gm will honor all requests by owners who opt for replacement without question regardless of the condition or appearance of the cables. Gm has agreed to mail reminder notifications to owners every two years until the tailgate support cables have been replaced or until the vehicle IS 12 years old.odi's investigation indicates that a significant majority of the reported complaints (87%) and injuries (94%) have occurred in my 2000 - 2003 s/t vehicles.
Odi IS upgrading rq04-012 and opening an ea to investigate the tailgate support cables installed in 1998 - 2004 model year sonoma and S10 model vehicles.general motors IS conducting recall campaign 04v-129 to replace the tailgate support cables originally installed in certain model year 2000-2004 sierras and silverados and certain model year 2002-2004 avalanches and escalade exts (c/k models).general motors has advised odithat the tailgate support cables installed in the subject vehicles were fabricated using identical or similar sheathing material as the recalled vehicles.however, general motors has advised odi that sonoma and S-10 vehicles differ from c/k models in several ways: the vehicle height IS lower; the tailgate displacement (drop) when not supported by the cables IS smaller and the tailgate comes to rest at a less severe tip angle when not supported by the cables; the tailgate mass IS smaller; and the size, payload, and usage characteristcis are less demanding than c/k model vehicles.gm also stated that sonoma and S-10 warranty claim information indicates a lower claim count and a lower claim rate than recalled c/k models.notwithstanding the above information, odi has received an additional 73 non-injury complaints and 10 injury complaints on the subject vehicles during rq04-012 (since november 2004 to date), which justifies opening an engineering analysis to further investigate this issue.
Odi opened pe02-066 to evaluate the scope and consequence of engine power-loss due to fuel starvation induced by in-tank modular fuel pump strainer restriction.the subject pumps use an external ?sock? Strainer to filter fuel flowing to the pump inlet.this filter can sometimes become clogged, resulting in a reduced flow of fuel to the engine.gm has subsequently modified the strainers to reduce this restriction.analysis of the odi complaint database shows that despite these restrictions, the subject vehicles stall at a rate that IS comparable to those of many peer vehicles.additionally, none of the relevant warranty repair rates exceed 1% at 36 months of exposure.one related crash involves a stalled vehicle that was rear-ended on the roadway, while the remainder involved minor collisions or scrapes.the sole injury consisted of bruising from a low speed frontal crash. Given these circumstances, further expenditure of agency resources IS not justified in this matter.the preliminary evaluation IS therefore closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency will take further action in the future if warranted.
