My 2014 harley has had two compensators replaced and now they are replacing a 3RD one in less than two tears. Thankfully no accident has occurred but from what I read this IS happening on a lot of harleys and could be dangeroust if it failed in transit.
- Fuel/propulsion system
Clutch compensator failed at 12,500 miles on a 6500 mile trip through the mountains to california. Bike was knocking from the primary cover and cost $750.00 to repair. Harley denied claim to replace part on a $40,000 motorcycle.

Right rear saddle bag departed the motorcycle on I-90 just east of wallace at normal highway speed. this was 8 days after having the harley davidson recall incorporated at a qualified dealer in albuquerque, n.m. the bag departed without warning and I was able to bring the motorcycle to a safe stop in the right shoulder of the road. the bag skidded on the pavement and came to a stop in the right shoulder of the I-90 eastbound lane. there was no immediate traffic behind me and the situation occurred without incident. I have great concern that had there been traffic behind me this could have caused a significant incident/accident causing injury or loss of property I am also very concerned about the liability exposure I have personally if an incident like this IS the cause of injury, property damage or death. harley davidson doesn't seem to be giving this the attention it deserves as the recall was only a hardware change and did not incorporate any failsafe mechanism should the hardware fail, as IS did in this case. clearly the recall design IS flawed and susceptible to the same failure mode as the original hardware and must be changed yet again. reading through some quick internet searches this issue has been ongoing as far back as 2011 from my brief search. I urge nhtsa to review this issue with harley davidson and take swift action to remedy.

Engine coolant leak started at about 700 total miles. the leak appears from the coolant pump housing. If it IS leaking while riding the slippery coolant splashes onto the rear tire affecting traction. the leak can possibly be splashing on the rear brake rotors affecting braking. now with only 1,450 total miles the leak became a full blown gusher. it's in for service again to address this issue. I have read over 60 pages on the HD forum about others having the same problem. *tr

- 10222358TECHNICAL TIP BULLETIN TA0016: 2014 and Later Touring Steering Head Bearing Adjustment. PURPOSE: REVISION. Updated: 2014-2019 to 2014 and later Touring vehicles, and VEHICLES AFFECTED. Harley-Davidson motorcycles are designed, manufactured and tested to be operated with both of the riders hands on the handlebar. If you or a customer are experiencing a handling concern, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING, HANDLING, IRREGULARITIES found in the MAINTAINANCE chapter of the appropriate service manual. The service manual process is not intended to validate factory settings, but rather to be used if a concern is presented. Through extensive testing, Harley-Davidson has developed the service manual specification and adjustment procedure as the optimum steering head bearing adjustment and verification method to achieve the desired handling characteristics across all speeds and conditions. Addressing a perceived feel of low speed wobble, oscillation or free play by adjusting the steering head bearings beyond the service manual specification may have an adverse effect on motorcycle stability.

Installing the plug in the return shock contains the oil in the shock during the shipment to the supplier. This information applies to 2014-2016 Touring and Trike models with rear air shock absorbers.

- 10153989TECH ARTICLE TA0016: 2014 and Later Touring Steering Head Bearing Adjustment. Purpose: During recent dealer visits to observe steering head bearing adjustment process, Harley-Davidson staff observed that some dealers are not correctly following the service manual steering head bearing adjustment process. Issue: Steering head bearings on 2014 and later Touring, CVO Touring and Police Touring motorcycles which may not have been adjusted correctly using the service manual procedure at dealerships. Resolution: Never make adjustments by feel. Always follow the process in the appropriate service manual.
- 10139399TECH ARTICLE TA0023: TA0023: Crankshaft Rod Bearing. Purpose: Technicians have been falsely identifying connecting rod bearings as failed due to a perception of resistance as the rods are rotated. The clearance of the Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight crank pin bearings are maintained to a very tight range. This optimizes performance and maintains low mechanical noise in operation. The connecting rod bore can also distort slightly in operation due to stress relaxation. As a result, bearing clearance decreases due to the contact zone broadening and the load being distributed over more rollers. The combination of a bore being slightly out of round and reduced bearing clearance can result in varying degrees of resistance through the range of motion. Axial clearance is also tightly controlled for proper alignment. For these reasons, zones of resistance can be found when the connecting rods are rotated by hand through their range of motion. Resistance during rod motion, by itself, is not an indication of a performance or durability concern.
