These records cover every 2003 Hummer H2. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
5 recalls name the 2003 Hummer H2. Newest first.
Gm IS recalling 13,358 my 2003 hummer H2 vehicles. some of these vehicles have a condition in which water can enter the windshield wiper motor module. if a sufficient amount of water enters the module, over time, the front windshield wipers may work intermittently or they may become inoperative.
If this were to occur, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash.
Dealers will inspect the windshield wiper module cover, and replace the windshield wiper module cover free of charge. the recall began on november 7, 2008. owners may contact hummer at 1-800-732-5493 or through their website at <a href=http://www.gmownercenter.com>http://www.gmownercenter.com</a> .
Certain fabtech aftermarket replacement pitman arms, p/nos. Fts71000 and fts71001, installed for use on certain 2001-2006 gm c/k 2500 pick up trucks and sport utility vehicles. the pin located inside the pitman arm can shear off due to a reverse bending fatigue condition, resulting in a total loss of steering control.
Loss of steering control could lead to a vehicle crash with potential injury or death.
Fabtech will notify owners and replace the pitman and idler arms free of charge. the recall IS expected to begin during february 2006. owners may contact fabtech at 909-597-7800.
Certain sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and passenger vans fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 135, ?passenger car brake systems.? some of these vehicles were produced with an out-of-specification brake hydro-boost housing relief valve bore.
Consequently, the valve o-ring seal may fracture. steering efforts may be slightly increased while braking or parking. under certain driving conditions, a fractured seal may require a slight increase in the applied brake pedal effort to achieve the same vehicle deceleration rate as prior to the seat fracture.
Dealers are to replace the hydro-boost relief valve. the recall began on june 18, 2004. owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339; chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; GMC at 1-866-996-9463; or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.
Certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 114, "theft protection." these vehicles are equipped with a mechanical override that could allow the ignition key to be removed with the shift lever in a position other than park. in addition, these vehicles have an override that can allow the…
These overrides are not permitted unless the vehicle has a locking steering column.
Dealers will eliminate these conditions by disabling the overrides. owner notification began on may 29, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537, or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.
Certain sport utility and passenger vehicles exhibit a condition in which the windshield wiper motor could fail during use because of improper manufacture.
If this were to occur in severe weather, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiper motor assembly. owner notification began november 6, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact saturn at 1-800-553-6000, prompt #3 or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.
While driving in extreme rain downfall at night my windshield wipers stopped functioning. I could not see the road. Luckily I had just exited the highway when this happened. Therefore I was able to move over to the side of the road turn on my hazards and wait an hour for the rain to settle before driving to a near by gas station. Otherwise a fatality would have been likely being on a busy interstate should the wipers failed to function then. That wipers do not work and the Hummer can not be driven when rain is expected. I heard a recall had been issued for wiper malfunction. However when pulling up any recalls from my vin nothing shows but I have seen recalls for this situation and for the same make model and year. Please advise. I have given the vehicle to my 16 year old son a soon to be new driver and is excited to start but I must get this safety isssue taken care of first.
drivers seat goes toward dash when key is turned on. have not been able to reset it in any way. cruise control wont activate. front washer pump wont pump. front wiper motor would not shut off. disconnected battery and then wiper motor would not restart. removed the wiper motor and found corosion in printed circuit board. trying to purchase a new front wiper motor. have found that the wai part number wpm 1063 that fits the hummer is currently on backorder. will purchase new wiper motor asap. need better parts availibility for safety.
The pass lock keeps my vehicle from starting and stopping it at random, and has been doing this for years. Seems to happen to at least 85% of hummers out there if you check around, hummer forum and other places. This IS very serious. Stops at intersections, and could on railroad tracks. I know that you've had complaints about this for years and ignored them, saying that you haven't had other complaints. This should be addressed by your agency, as your job IS to keep the citizens safe. Not pass them off as you've been doing for years on this issue with the gm pass lock system. This needs recalled before more people are killed due to this miss function on hummers. More people are having this shutdown issue than not. When it happens, you have to wait between 10 and 30 minutes with the key in the start position before it will start. So it sits in the middle of an intersection, interstate, bridge, or anywhere else during this time. Hopefully you will address this issue promptly.

One evening while driving in the rain on a local road headed home my windshield wipers which ofcourse were in operation suddenly stopped stuck in the upright position I immediately heard a somewhat loud humming noise sounding as if it were coming from inside the upper dashboard I couldn't see to drive as I naturally responded to the wipers suddenly stopping and in the upward position making it hard for me to see while driving, I quickly turned the knob on the left side of the steering wheel which operates the wipers speed and on & off function in hopes it would bring the wipers down to the resting position especially if turned off however even though I turned the knob to the off position the wipers remained frozen in the same upward state as when no longer wiping but the humming noise stopped. I quickly pulled off the road turning the wipers on again I could here the humming noise but the windshield wipers still failed to move. when I turn the wipers off again no noise could be heard and yet still not making a difference in moving the wipers which stopped working while in the up on windshield position. after toggling around with the on and off knob and the noise coming on and off in sequence with but not the wipers I concluded that the motor was the noise I was hearing establishing it still works however not moving the wipers it IS intended for. A working windshield wiper motor or whatever operating mechanism but no functional wipers. therefore I can not see anytime driving and along comes the rain for it quickly impairs the visibility to see through the windshield to see the road or traffic in front of you making extremely unsafe to drive and putting other drivers at risk especially if on the highway doing fast speeds and/ or a place where it IS not easy to pull over suddenly makes very stressful and inconvenient
TL* the contact owns a 2003 hummer H2. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph on a rainy day, the windshield wipers failed to operate. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was operated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 205-588-4478. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not part of a recall and the contact had to pay for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
When I am parked on my driveway, the two front doors will not stay open to let me and my wife safely enter and exit. The doors are supposed to be held open by what IS called a door check. These two left and right door checks have a defective design because I ordered two new ones, and the 2 doors will not stay open as we are entering, and exiting the hummer. The doors quickly close and almost break our hip , legs and feet. it IS a defective design because they used plastic and rubber to make friction together in the door check. It will not hold open the heavy door(s) on the hummer H2. the hummer only has 14,710 miles on it. so, I know that it IS a common problem. Normally, my last gm chevrolet truck used door checks with steel roller(s) that rolled against a steel spring(s). I am having difficulty on your website to upload a photo of the door check with the defective design.

We purchased this H2 in december 2014 and by feb 2015 noticed a grumbly sound in the brakes. we took it in for service and the tech told us the whole undercarriage was rusted and all the brake lines were rusted thru and had to be replaced. since some of the lines were no longer available, they had to "create" them. this was a costly fix and who knows what the safety impact could have been.
Failure of braking system due to complete erosion of brake lines. Extremely dangerous safety issue along with very costly repairs for a vehicle consumers believed to be "well-made". I can't understand why the substandard defective parts and associated repairs have not been a determined as a recall. Based upon the amount of complaints for this problem, it IS obvious that the consumers that paid for a "high-end" vehicle were duped!!! *tr
I went to crank up my hummer to warm it up due to the very cold weather once I cranked the hummer I immediately smelled a very strong burning odor. It begin to smoke and my husband yelled it your truck and I looked and saw the smoke getting worse and thicker. I unhooked my infant son's car seat belt and took him out of the vehicle. I ran to the building we were leaving to call 911 because of the smoke while on the phone with the 911 dispatcher I saw the fire start inside the truck on the steering wheel and dashboard it then it immediately spread and burned the entire inside of the truck where it IS not recognizable. The fire department came and sprayed water on it to put out the fire there were blue and red sparks shooting out of the truck. The sparks and fire started in the steering wheel area which showed there was an electrical issue that caused this fire. I checked other recalls and noticed that the issue I speak of was recalled inside of the 2006 H2 hummers. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2003 hummer H2. While driving approximately 35 mph, the steering failed, the front passenger wheel detached from the vehicle, the passenger side front end dropped, and the vehicle slid into a parked truck. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. Nhtsa campaign number: 06e010000 (steering) was related to the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 165,000.
We have a 2003 hummer H2- the resistor for the blower motor IS no longer made. this IS a safety issue since it can limit visibility due to failure to clear the windshield. this IS a safety hazard. We have contacted gm with no results. this IS not the only vehicle that has this particular part. this IS a very serious issue since it can limit the visibility and can cause a fatal crash. please advise. *tr

I was driving down the highway interstate 70 in maryland and went to apply my brakes . As I applied the brakes , the truck pulled hard to the right ,and the brake pedal went to the floor . If I would not have swerved onto the median , I would have ran into the back of another vehicle . after stopping , I looked under the vehicle and observed a puddle of brake fluid on the ground ,and the front suspension was covered in brake fluid. after further inspection, I noticed that all the brake lines were corroded. Gm states that your vehicle can still stop if you lose one of the brake lines . In my situation , I found this to be a false statement . This IS a very dangerous situation ,and I was very surprised when I took the vehicle into a certified gm dealership and found that they would not do anything about this issue. They offered a voucher for 1000 towards a new vehicle . I own a 1968 camaro that IS all original ,and I do not have any rust issues with the brake lines . How IS this possible that a car 35 years old does not have this problem ? And even more crazy , that gm turns a blind eye to this dangerous issue . needless to say, I will not ever buy another gm product ! *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2003 hummer H2. The contact stated that all of the brake lines were rusted out. While towing a thirty foot boat, the parking brake abnormally traveled all the way to the floorboard. An independent mechanic replaced all of the brake lines. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Brake pedal went to the floor upon brake application without prior warning. Upon inspection, found brake lines corroded through and leaking just under the driver's seat. Cost to repair will be significant. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2003 hummer H2. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, could not remove the key out of the ignition. The contact mentioned that he had to take the vehicle to a lock smith to have the key removed. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 231,000.
Exhaust manifold bolts rusted off and the vehicle makes a ticking sound. I just observed a video explaining that this IS a common problem. It also may cause other emissions related problems. Call me day or night for any further information. This vehicle has had nothing but problems and an unrelated engine fire due to the faulty windshield wiper motor in 2009. *tr
The windshield wipers stopped working, while in the pouring down rain. No accident, but the 2003 H2 does have a recall on the wipers for this exact reason. I had to put out over 700 to have it repaired. I would like to have the vin number reviewed as to why it IS not covered under the recall as what happened IS what they described the problem to be. I do have the invoice from the repair. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
This investigation disclosed that water intrusion into the wiper motor module of the subject vehicles may lead to intermittent operation or subsequent total system failure.analysis of data disclosed that the subject vehicles built between february 2003 and may 2003 exhibited high warranty claim rates.the manufactured notified nhtsa by letter dated september 8, 2008, that a safety recall program has been initiated for the 13,358 vehicles built during this time period.nhtsa has assigned no. 08V-456 to this safety recall campaign.corrective action will consist of replacing the wiper module cover, where evidence of water intrusion exists.to correspond with parts availability, the dealer bulletin and owner notification letter are scheduled for issuance in november 2008.
Odi upgraded this investigation at the conclusion of pe04-080.the alleged defect involves the failure of the steering knuckle at the lower ball joint boss, resulting in a separation of the lower ball joint from the knuckle.a lower ball joint separation could result in a loss of steering and/or a disabled vehicle. It appears that the fractures of H2 steering knuckles can be attributed to wheel/tire collision forces being transferred directly to the steering knuckle.the original knuckle design appears to be sufficient for the H2 application.evidence from inspected vehicles, photographs, police reports and edr data indicates collision impact events placed stress on the steering knuckle causing it to fracture.further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with regard to the subject component.the agency reserves the right to take further action on this issue if warranted.
During the pe, odi investigated the hummer H2 for fractures which were occurring at the front steering knuckle lower boss.when the knuckle lower boss fractures, the lower ball joint stud IS released and the entire knuckle and wheel/tire assembly separates from the vehicle.odi IS upgrading this investigation to gain a full technical understanding of the factors which contributed to these failures.
