Excessive corrosion may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame, which can affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash.
Dealers will inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area. for vehicles in which little or no corrosion IS found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. for vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. in the rare event the corrosion IS so severe that the reinforcement bracket remedy would not be appropriate, a repurchase offer will be extended to the vehicle's owner. all inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are 10 years old or less. for vehicles older than 10 years, isuzu will offer a free remedy, but only if the vehicle IS presented to an isuzu service facility, or honda dealer (as applicable), dealer within 12 months of when owner notifications were issued. the safety recall began on december 10, 2010. isuzu owners may contact isuzu at 1-800-255-6727. honda owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.
On certain sport utility vehicles, the passenger-side air bag inflator modules were manufactured and shipped without a necessary component known as a check valve pin.
In the event of a crash, the air bag will not inflate properly or sufficiently resulting in an increased risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag. owner notification IS expected to begin during august or september 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact isuzu at 1-800-643-4070.
This IS not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. however, it IS deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. vehicle description: 1998-2000 rodeo (ue) and amigo (ua) models equipped with 2.2L 4-cylinder engines. the timing belt could break before the recommended scheduled maintenance.
This condition could cause the engine to crank but will not start or the engine could stall while driving and will not restart.
Dealer will inspect the vehicle to determine the condition of the timing belt and tensioner. the dealer will replace the timing belt. depending on the condition or model of the timing belt tensioner, the tensioner may also be replaced. isuzu has decided to conduct a service campaign to replace the timing belt. owner notification began june 22, 2001. owners can contact isuzu at 1-800-643-4070, ext. 426, concerning this program.
Vehicle description: certain sport utility vehicles were built with the inflators in the passenger side air bag modules having the wrong amount of generant.
In the event of a crash that would trigger a passenger air bag deployment, too much generant can cause the inflator module to explode. if the air bag module explodes, metal and plastic debris could cause severe injury to vehicle occupants.
Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag unit.

The failure mileage was 213,000.
I bought my 2000 rodeo new and it currently has 37000 actual miles. I recently saw rust in the driveway. I took this car to a honda body shop to see the underbody. Before putting it on the lift they saw that the frame was excessively rusted. once in the air they looked at the whole underside and said that the frame and the lower control arm were holed with rust. I asked if any of this was repairable.they said they would not do the work because they would not assume the liability of a serious accident. this vehicle had the fixes prescribed by campaign 10v-436 sb 10-11-s002a completed at sellers truck center in farmington hills, mi on september 9, 2011. This addressed the rear suspension but obviously the corrosion was so pervasive that this campaign was just a band-aid. As I read the various complaints on this site I strongly agree that these cars are a safety hazard and should be bought back by isuzu and taken off the road. like many others I have sidelined mine and been forced to buy another car to replace it way before it was necessary. Ironically, this car IS in almost pristine condition from the body up. I have contacted isuzu and received a letter in return in which they assert that they did everything they had to and that the original recall did not require more than dealing with the rear suspension and therefore I was out of luck. In the letter they said I could call for more information. I did and they offered to 'redo the procedures of the original recall.' when I pointed out that I have a car that IS unsafe to drive and that the facility they wanted it taken to IS an hour and a half away their comment was 'no one said you had to drive it. You could trailer it.' this isn't a good alternative either especially since I have a honda dealer less than two miles from my house and the honda passport suffered all the same

The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 10v436000 (suspension). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
TL* the contact owned a 2000 isuzu rodeo. While the vehicle was being serviced by an independent mechanic, the technician observed that the rear driver side frame was rusted throughout. As a result, the vehicle was unable to repair. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.
Left side rear frame where it connects to the tire rusted through. Bottom piece has detached from one side. I just read their was a recall in 2010 but I never received anything. I bought my car in 2007. This IS a serious situation, luckily I noticed it when I did, fortunately I wasn't driving. What do I do now? -thank you. *tr
I think the time has come for the nhtsa to seriously consider getting the remaining isuzu rodeo's off the road - they are not safe. I like a majority of other isuzu owners suffer from excessive corrosion all over the frame - I had the recall repair done and this was supposed to be treated but it has progressively gotten worse and now I am at the point where I have a reliable everyday car that starts up right away, runs well and cuts through the snow (4X4) but due to manufacturing errors now has a flaky, brittle hole ridden wheel well frame on both sides that will cause an accident after the wheel goes flipping off the car and causing it to flip over. isuzu has turned a blind eye and won't take any calls (once you find them). a recall must be issued and make the manufacturer take responsibility for whatever shady processes they used on the assembly line. I am very upset that I need to go out and purchase a new car and that I have no value in this car due to the fact that I cannot sell an unsafe car. make the manufacturer buy back these vehicles or recall them! too many complaints - and you cannot ignore the same repeated trend - everyone in the northeast has experienced this horrible pain! *tr
I purchased a 2000 isuzu rodeo from a dealership on december 4, 2014. I got it home only to realize the entire frame IS rusted almost completely through. It's worse in the rear end of the vehicle. The frame under the hatchback area IS almost completely gone. The dealership won't take it back and I can't afford another vehicle. I have not been able to contact anyone at isuzu. The SUV IS in excellent condition otherwise. *tr
The suspension on my isuzu rodeo 2000 broke because of the corrosive frame underneath and it seems as if the metal used for the frame and suspension IS part of a recall from what I'm seeing all over the internet so I ended up calling the deal ship and they want to do nothing for me and they tell me there are no active recalls at this time which makes absolutely no sense to me because the issue that I'm seeing with the recall just happen to me. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 isuzu rodeo. The contact was driving 20 mph and traveled over a pot hole when the rear control arm mount separated from the frame. The steering wheel became difficult to control. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the frame assembly, suspension and alignment needed to be repaired. The failure had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 210,000.
Submission from constituent re 2000 isuzu rodeo concerns ( photos enclosed). *smd the consumer was recently informed, the vehicle had severe rusting and corrosion on the frame and it was unsafe to drive. the consumer referenced recall # 10v436000. *Jb
I purchased this vehicle on 08/06/2014...i was driving it home and it felt weird. the very next day I had our mechanics put it on the rack to take a look at the underside...i thought it was the transmission. I was in total disbelief at how rusted out and corroded the frame was. It IS so bad it has actual holes in the frame from front to back. this car IS unsafe and cannot be driven in its current condition. I would like isuzu to purchase it back from me. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 isuzu rodeo. the contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the rear end of the vehicle began to swing 4 to 6 inches from left to right. the manufacturer was notified. a private mechanic stated that the bottom frame needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.
I was driving my husband to dialysis and the car felt different, thought maybe I had a flat tire or something, I didn't have a flat tire so it was windy and thought maybe wind was pushing me. it just felt funny and I was alarmed. the next day I was turning a corner at low rate of speed (thank god) and I heard a loud noise and scratching. I parked the vehicle and called a mechanic and took it there. the mechanic just told me today that he can't be driven it IS a total loss the under carriage and suspension IS completely rusted. I never recieved a recall notice and made aware, we could have been killed in an accident or hurt someone else. I am asking for relief and would like to know how to proceed. it not easy to just purchase another vehicle when you have a isuzu rodeo paid off. please contact us. *tr
T he "reduced power" light comes on and acceleration IS reduced down to 10-15 mph. This IS extremely hazardous ,since I never know when this will happen. I have many close call accidents from this, I have taken it to a service station and they can not diagnose the problem . please advise! I'm desperate. I'm 62years old and disabled and need a vehicle that's dependable to carry my grandchildren in, and go to my may dr. Appointments. As I was driving to work on 2/20/14 the lower rear end of my car started to make a loud clicking sound and as I started to slow down the rear end of my car underneath made a loud sound causing it to swerve quickly.it scared me because it felt like the back of the car was falling on top of the tiers (if that makes any sense) but that's how it felt due to the loud sound. So now I find out that this same problem IS due to the poor work of isuzu rodeo,it seams that all 2000 isuzu rodeo's are under a recall, and I was never notified of this problem I'm a caregiver and now im unable to get to my patients because I don't have any transportation to and from work,i'm hoping and praying that someone in your jurisdiction can help me find a solution to this urgent mater, please some one needs to do something about this before someone drives one of these car's on the high way and people get hurt.if someone saw how corroded the rear suspension of my car IS you wouldn't believe isuzu IS selling cars like this,,i hope you can help me,please,please......!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Isuzu IS not honoring it's recalls. I bought a used isuzu rodeo when I called isuzu in order to do the recalls they said my car had no recalls on filed based on my vin#. Since that call my rear bracket suspension has corroded and detached from the vehicle frame which could of killed me. According to the recall it says "a vehicle older than 10 years will be repaired for free only if it IS brought to an isuzu or honda dealer within 12 months of notification". Well I've never been notified of anything and isuzu IS refusing to do repairs. Even when I took the car to the isuzu repair center they would not touch it or offer me any remedy? I incurred towing expenses, time off from work taking the car to the authorized repair center. help a consumer out please. Let's do the right thing here. Isuzu should honor all it's recalls on my car. *tr
While driving approximately 55 miles hr in 820 I exited right on the weatherford exit and while in the turn the bd side tireblew out an the tread had come off causing my car to spin out of control and go down an embankment in which we almost flipped my car before we could get it stopped in which it caused extensive damage to the rear drivers side of the vehicle. *tr
Live in massachusetts - have brackets from previous recall attached. underneath vehicle IS rapidly rotting - noticed rot beneath mounting brackets, and along frame behind tires around wheel wells. Rust everywhere and fear that the car IS not safe to operate, vehicle IS only 13 years old and rapid frame rust should not be occurring. other problems - gas gauge not operating causing check engine light to come on whenever a turn IS made. cannot remove gas tank to fix issue as rust IS too extensive. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 isuzu rodeo. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, there was a sudden loss of steering control as the rear driver's side bracket became detached from the vehicle. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle and took it to an independent mechanic, who stated that the entire frame would need to be replaced. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign ID number 10v436000 (suspension) however, the recall was expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
I originally brought my vehicle into the dealership during the recall for inspection and recommendation of repair as I live in one of the states that was mentioned in the recall. at the time, my drivers rear bracket had detached and the recall was a flurry of angry vehicle owners. to be candid, although I suffer many problems of various sorts with the vehicle, it has always been a dependable one, especially being 4 wheel drive. I did get a remedy for the vehicle - they mounted these hulking brackets on both sides of the vehicle and applied some "special" coating - I was thankful that I didn't have to have my vehicle taken from me like so many others. I did have to bring it back to the dealership afterwards as they didn't install the gas filler neck the correct way and gas was leaking out everywhere each time I filled. I swear they caused a lot of other problems during the fixing of the vehicle - but cannot prove as such. I don't care for the fact that because they removed my exhaust my warranty for my exhaust system was voided - an extra cost I am still saving for repairing. But the real reason I write to complain IS that the frame IS rusting rapidly right underneath those new hulking brackets they installed - not sure where the "special" coating was done - but a flaking, hole ridden frame IS now apparent and I'm not sure what remedy, if any can be taken. I certainly fall outside the terms set forth in the recall notice, yet, did in good faith bring it in for a repair that was performed - but, yet the frame continues to rust and quickly - should that be my responsibility? doesn't the consumer have a certain degree of trust by the manufacturer that the vehicle they bought "could" in fact last many many years if taken care of properly. I have done that - isuzu has not met the ordinary expectations that a vehicle owner has. I want a solution to my problem. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On September 22, 2010, Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America, Inc (Isuzu) submitted a Defect Information Report (NHTSA Recall 10V-436) to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affecting approximately 120,000 model year (MY) 1998-2002 Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport vehicles and MY 2002 Isuzu Axiom vehicles originally sold, or currently operated, in the following states:Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin. All vehicle owners will receive the recall notification.Vehicles 10 years of age or younger will be provided with a free remedy. For vehicles older than 10 years, Isuzu will offer a free remedy provided the vehicle is presented to an Isuzu service facility or a Honda dealer (as applicable) no later than twelve (12) months after the date of mailing of the notification letter to the owner. The report describes a condition where vehicles operated in states using certain road deicing materials may exhibit excessive corrosion which may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame.According to Isuzu a detached lower link may affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data and found that 114 of the 115 (99%) alleged complete lower link separations from the frame occurred in vehicles originally sold or operated in a state covered by the recall. Of these complaints 2 involved alleged crashes and 21 involved alleged loss of control incidents. The alleged crashes and loss of control incidents all occurred in vehicles operated in a state covered by the safety recall.Isuzu's recall instructs dealers to inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area to determine if corrosion is present. For vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the lower link bracket area and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. For vehicles with no visible signs of corrosion, dealers with apply anti-corrosion material to reduce the likelihood of corrosion developing in the future. Based on Isuzu's safety recall, this Engineering Analysis is closed.A copy of the recall may be assessed on NHTSA's website using the reference number above.
During preliminary evaluation pe09-030, isuzu motors america, inc (isuzu) noted two primary differences once the rear suspension lower link separation occurs between the alleged defect (separation of the lower link from the frame) of this investigation and a safety defect involving lower link separation from the rear axle addressed by isuzu in safety recall 00v-058.in the case of the defect condition identified in recall 00v-058, isuzu stated that the attachment bolt could detach fully, causing separation of the lower link from the rear axle possibly creating a loss of vehicle control. Isuzu also stated that this condition occurs early in the service life of the vehicle.in this investigation isuzu noted lower link separation from the frame IS a progressive corrosion issue with prior warning to consumers.isuzu also stated that in the event of a lower link separation from the frame, the vehicle IS still controllable and can be safely stopped. The office of defect investigation (odi) analyzed complaint data provided by isuzu and america honda motor company, inc (honda), as well as vehicle owner questionnaires submitted to odi from consumers.in total, there were 60 unique reports of lower link separations from the frame including 1 alleged crash and 7 loss of vehicle control incidents that may be related to the alleged defect.most of these complaints indicated that there was no warning prior to the link separation.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea09-018) to further assess the scope, frequency and risk to motor vehicle safety of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.
