Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2006 Nissan 350Z. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
1 recall names the 2006 Nissan 350Z. Newest first.
Zf service IS recall certain clutch kit assemblies, part number sx: k70358-01, shipped to wholesalers as service parts between september 1, 2010, and march 8, 2011. these service parts are intended for use on model year 2003-2006 nissan 350Z and infiniti G35 vehicles. the sx: k70358-01 clutch kit contains an oversized clutch disc.
An oversized clutch disc could cause the vehicle to move unintentionally on the initial start-up, if the driver does not follow the installation instructions and fails to use the service brakes while the hand brake IS not applied. unintentional movement of the vehicle could result in a crash or possible injury to persons outside the vehicle.
Zf service notify wholesalers to return any affected clutch kit assemblies still in inventory for free replacement kits. this condition will correct itself after the first start-up and usage of the clutch kit. however, if an owner IS not satisfied with its performance, zf services will reimburse the owner for the cost of the replacement clutch kit and a reasonable amount for its installation. the safety recall began on july 13, 2011. owners may contact zf services at 1-800-321-0784 ext. 6748.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan 350Z. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH the vehicle became hot, started smoking and it stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle was steered to the side of the road where the hood was lifted. The contact stated that she then observed condensation under the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the head gasket and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Tire size 265/35ZR19 driving down highway at 55 mph when tire blew out. I was able to lucklily get the shoulder and it looked like my tire was cut open with a can opener on the sidewall. The tpms sensor was working fine and they were never plugged and had plenty of tread. I sent pictures of the damage to continental that just replies they’re not warranted. If you google continental blow outs you will see tires and even recalls that look just like mine. I definitely could of been killed or killed someone else if the blowout occurred on a busy highway because I lost control
My 2006 350Z IS doing exactly what IS stated below from your website. I purchase my car in 2012 and was not aware that this was a problem as I had been driving automatics. june 24, 2011 nhtsa campaign number: 11e024000 service equipment/clutch kit assemblies an oversized clutch disc could cause the vehicle to move unintentionally on the initial start-up, if the driver does not follow the installation instructions and fails to use the service brakes while the hand brake IS not applied. Unintentional movement of the vehicle could result in a crash or possible injury to persons outside the vehicle.
The airbag sensor failed and the light is flashing. The tire pressure sensor failed and the light is on.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan 350Z. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the accelerator and brake pedals became unresponsive while depressed. The contact was able to pull over and restart the vehicle and the vehicle regained functionality. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 nissan 350Z. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the pearson nissan dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the air bag modules. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The failure recurred and was repaired twice a year for the past seven years. The manufacturer was notified, but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 45,532.
Airbag IS flashing on when car IS run
Issue with cam shaft sensor failure. replaced bank 2 and now bank 1. this IS a known issue according to all of the people complaining. this was part of a recall for 2003 models, but not for 2006 models. car has 121,000 miles and runs smooth, except for the cam shaft sensor failures. it IS becoming dangerous, because it IS killing the engine when it trips and having that happen at 70mph on the interstate IS a concern for injury.
The door mechanism both inside and outside has failed, I cannot enter or exit the vehicle from the drivers side. This poses a great safety hazard in the event of an accident.
Passenger side airbag indicator light stays light anytime the engine IS running.
Takata inflator-airbag light start flashes continuously about 3 years ago. Dealer ststed that it had to be replaced at my expense.
I received safety recall 15v-287 I called number 1-888-387-7235. Customer services took my phone number to call back. Then they didn't. I'm calling for woodbridge avenel,nj
My son was driving home he had a accident, he hit a tree and was killed. He was only 20yrs old. patrick's air bags never opened which maybe he would be alive today if they did.
On may 8TH brought my car to the local colonial nissan of medford, ma and they diagnosed the car with a fuel issue, which did cost me $1,200 the next day they called me to bring the car back as they had forgotten to tighten up a few things. Went back and left the car there for a few hours. the next day may 11TH, the check engine light turned on and had to bring the car back to the dealer. I was informed that the transmission has failed due to a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure. When that coolant mixes with transmission fluid it creates a toxic hell stew that destroys the transmission. given the october 2012 class-action lawsuit, nissan IS asking that I pay $3,000 to fix the transmission. I did also pay for another part, which did cost another $250. So within a week I paid $4,450 to fix my car, while I was never notified of this issue by nissan and I am the first owner of this car.
I recently bought a used vehicle at norfolk motorsports in norfolk va. they had bought the vehicle thru inspection and it did not pass it, according to the manager, it was missing the air bag on the passenger and they was going to buy the whole component for it instead. I had a meeting with the owner of the company along with the manager, salesperson; the owner had stated to me and my fianc at the time that he could have easily clipped the wire to the seat and it would pass inspection. about two weeks later I finally received the vehicle and now the passenger air bag light IS showing that its on "off", to me, this indicates that they tripped the wire to let it pass inspection. I also believe that they tripped the wires for the tires lights on it. I had asked for money back but would not give it to me since it IS considered a "lemon". they are only willing to give me a trade-in instead. till this day I still have not received the title because at the time of sale they told me I had to call the day before and their administrative personnel would give it to me. they have been giving the run-around on this vehicle that I have paid in cash for. they now want to me to purchase another vehicle that IS the" engine service light", along with another light about the tires. I am afraid they will also trip the wires on that vehicle so it will pass inspection. they trying to force my hand into something that I do not want instead of giving my cash back that I gave to them from the bank. *tr
On friday july 5TH 2013 just after getting off the expressway I heard a noise coming from the front of the car. Just as I pulled into the driveway my wheel (rim) broke off. Wow, thank the good lord I wasn't on the freeway. The wheel hub was still attached to the bolts, and the rim broke, upon further inspection the other front wheel has cracks on all five spokes. The vehicle IS unsafe to drive, had it towed to the local nissan dealership in oceanside, california. Why has there been no recalls. It seems there are numerous reports of the same problem. Still awaiting a response from mossy nissan in oceanside, ca. *tr
The date IS when I received my car from the body shop after 3-CAR wreck. Drove it to work and the car had no power to climb a hill. Called insurance company, took it back they did no repairs to the engine, so it went to the dealership. Shortly afterwards the car wasn't downshifting properly, then it started making a sound like it was stuck in a spin cycle and shoot out causing the car to go faster. Took it back to the dealership nothing. So with the car doing the spin cycle and shooting out fast, it started making this thumping noise from under the hood when coming to a stop. This was so frequent I thought the engine was about drop out, so I took it to transmission shop; they found a code for an electrical solenoid and reset it. I was instructed to take it to the dealership if it happens again. A week later it did but all the time. Took the car back to the dealership, this time they witness the problem and called the corporation tech's; who recommended to replace idle relearn and odometer cluster (miles off). They were replaced but my check engine light came on, insurance company sent a third party inspector out. He found out that the transmission and engine are bad and IS not related to the accident. I called nissan corporation received a claim number, a month later they called to say they are not going to pay for the repairs. I asked the dealership to checkout my parking brake because the light for it didn't come on with the old odometer cluster because I drove my car home from their shop and it was engaged but nothing indicating that it was. My airbags did not explode from the wreck either and also the car tires will not maintain the proper air pressure. Had to get my oil recheck several times after getting the oil changed. The car IS unsafe to drive here in hawaii with all this traffic, still at the dealership. I have the report from the inspector if you want it. *tr
While driving to visit my grandsons on christmas eve, the rear drive wheel broke. the wheel broke from the car and travel down the highway at a high rate of speed. luckily I was able to slow the car down and get it to the side of the road. I could only sit helpless as I watch the broken wheel bounce down the highway. the wheel came to a stop more than 400 yards. a quote from the chp officer, "it never happens this way. Usually the wheel lands on someone else's car causing a accident." this IS the second wheel that has broke on my car. summer 2011 I had to replace a cracked wheel when getting new tires. the remaining two wheels on the car have been looked at and cracks have been found. since my insurance will not cover the cost of new wheels, I'm forced to replace them myself. while doing some investigative work, I have found more than a dozen cases just like mine. the tire shop I visited today said they have had 3 other nissan 350Z - 2006 with the same problem. how many cases have not been reported? nissan will not take responsibility and recall their bad batch of wheels from 2006. what does it take to make nissan responsible and recall these wheels? *tr
My airbags did not deploy. *tr
TL - the contact owns a 2006 nissan 350Z. The contact stated that the front passenger side wheel rim developed a cracked, which caused the wheel to loose air pressure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who verified the failure and stated to the contact that the failure was caused by a manufacturing defect. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to cover fifty percent of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 75,000. kmj
Heard some squeaking from front left tire. I inspected the chrome wheel and found all 5 spokes had cracks in them all the way through. I had the vehicle inspected and found all 4 chrome wheels had cracks and was advised to park vehicle as it was not safe to drive. I contacted the service manager at my dealership and he advised that the rims on my vehicle were sent out to be chromed by someone else other than nissan causing nissan not to be responsible for these cracked rims. This vehicle, a touring roadster 350Z was bought new from a nissan dealership with these chrome rims already on them, this other dealership also happens to be owned by the current dealership I go to. The service manager said the dealership also would not be responsible because they only warranty this for 3years/36,000. my vehicle has less than 19,600 miles on it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan 350Z. The contact stated that the clutch pedal stuck to the floor. He mentioned that when the pedal was engaged the vehicle did not have any power and when it was half way up as a result a burning smell came through the vents. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the clutch was defective and needed to be replaced. The transmission, the master cylinder and the slave cylinder were also replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 59,000 and the current mileage was 64,000.
While driving in a heavy rain, with the windshield wipers on a medium speed, the wipers stopped. by turning off and on the wipers, I could not get them to restart. while trying to get to the shoulder of the road, the wipers began working again on their own. they were off for approximately 45 seconds. this happened again, approximately 1 month later. in a 45 minute drive home, in heavy rain, the wipers quit on 3 occasions. each stoppage seem to last for 30-45 seconds. they would restart on their own, there didn't seem to be anything that I could do to start them. I took the car to a nissan dealership to fix. they said that they could not find the problem and to bring it back when it was happening all the time. I told them that it was too dangerous and I did not want to drive it in the rain as it was too hazardous. they said that there was nothing they could do as they didn't know what the problem was. I filed a complaint with nissan corporate, they had their tech department try and troubleshoot with the dealership. they found nothing. I now have a vehicle which I feel IS extremely hazardous in inclement weather and have had no support from the manufacturer in resolving it.
On 10/6/2010 I took my vehicle in for an oil change and evaluation of problem in shifting manual transmission. The transmission had problem with 1-2 and 4-3 shifts with grinding and difficulty shifting. The car was found to have a faulty transmission. the vehicle was also found to have, as stated by the tech, no visible oil in the engine. This indicates a consumption of 5+ quarts within 6500 miles. a tsb by nissan: ntb07-088 dates back to 2007 of high oil consumption. The newest tsb (ntb07-088d) only replaces the short-block of the engine as was done by the dealer. this has not addressed the damage of the engine due to oil starvation, as the tsb covers only partial oil consumption, not near total as in this case. as of the repair, the engine has a rougher idle and the new transmission IS still difficult to shift from now 1-2 and 5-6. *Tr
I purchased a 2006 nissan 350 z in 2009 with a clean title and was excited about the purchase initially however, to my dismay I began noticing the car was consuming oil at an unusual rate. This first symptom I observed was a rattling noise originating from under the hood. I then checked all my fluids and noticed that the motor oil dipstick was not registering oil, I then proceeded to correct the oil level. I noticed that about three (3) months later the rattling noise return and upon checking the car was without oil again. I have noticed that it has became necessary for me to refill the engine with motor oil roughly every three (3) months. I conducted some research online whereby it was discovered that 2006 nissan 350 z's where synonymous with mysteriously consuming oil. I have contacted nissan of north america where I was giving the run around. I am asking nhtsa to assist in whatever way possible to have the oil consumption issue with 2006 nissan 350 z's remedied, thanks. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
All of the wheel separation incidents identified in ea07-005 have involved wheels subjected to aftermarket chroming in california.metallurgical analysis of aftermarket chromed wheels obtained from incident vehicles showed significant changes in material properties that can increase the chance of structural failure.nissan has issued several communications to dealers, both before and after odi's investigation began with pe06-050, warning against the practice of chroming wheels.nissan has advised odi that it will be sending another communication this year that repeats the warnings against aftermarket chroming. No defect has been identified in the original equipment nissan wheels.there have been no wheel separation incidents involving those wheels and they passed the sae radial fatigue, cornering and side impact tests conducted by vrtc.while there have been a few complaints, warranty claims and survey responses indicating cracks in original equipment wheels, they are few in number, often exhibit evidence of impact damage and may sometimes involve cracks in different locations of the wheel.at this time, in view of the limited incidence of the cracks and the fact that the cracks do not appear to have progressed, further use of agency resources on this investigation does not appear to be warranted.the agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information pertaining to the wheels on the subject vehicles and will take further action if warranted.see document file for more information about this closing resume.
The office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe06-050 based on two consumer complaints alleging incidents of wheel separation while driving due to spoke fracture.one of the incidents resulted in a crash and serious injury when the separated wheel struck a california highway patrol officer on a motorcycle on the opposite side of the freeway. During pe06-050, odi determined that both incidents of wheel separation involved nissan wheels that were subjected to an aftermarket re-chroming process.both incidents occurred in southern california.information provided by nissan showed that problems with re-chromed wheels were concentrated almost exclusively in california.nissan has issued dealer bulletins, most recently in august 2006, warning against re-chroming wheels because the process may damage wheels.nissan also submitted complaints and warranty claims concerning cracked spokes in original equipment nissan alloy wheels.these claims and complaints were not concentrated in any particular geographic region, but were few in number.according to nissan, most oe alloy wheels with cracked spokes can be attributed to impact damage. This investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea07-005) to further assess the causes of spoke cracking in original equipment nissan wheels and in wheels subjected to re-chroming and to assess the risk of additional wheel separations in the subject vehicles.
