TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact stated that upon starting her vehicle, a flame emitted from the driver side door panel. The flame then dissipated as white smoke began to emit from the driver side door. The contact exited the vehicle from the same and retrieve assistance. Her co-worker were able to assist her in removing the door panel off the driver side door. The contact was not injured as a result of the fire. The police nor the fire department were notified of the failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that her vehicle had been included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 228,000. * (recall related incident) ts
Side air bags exploded when we were turning and ran over a curb at about ten mph speed.
Takata recall I woke up to my vehicle on fire and it had been off for over 8 hours. It had been parked in my driveway all night. We heard a bang from inside then out neighbor banged on our door a minute later saying my vehicle was on fire. We called 911 and they had to come and put it out.
A headlight recall exists for this model but my vin number does not confirm. my headlights are failing while driving at night. There seems to be an issue with the vin on this vehicle.
One headlight goes out while driving. It can be drivers side or passenger side as it IS not specific to one side or the other. Both headlights went out at the same time during a night drive. By turning the lights off and back on, they will usually come back on. There seems to be no pattern other than they just turn off. Saab stated that there were no recalls for my vehicles lighting.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact stated that the front driver's side window failed to open or close intermittently when the window switch was depressed. The contact stated that, recently, the front passenger side window was opened by depressing the switch, but failed to close. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact researched the failure online at nhtsa.gov and found that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility) for the same failure she experienced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000. The vin was not available.
The fuel gauge on my vehicle became faulty. The meter would work only till half tank and after that the guage would go straight down to e or empty. fuel sensor recall
None of the drivers side front electric IS working, air suspension died, no low beam
Fuel gauge stopped reporting actual level of fuel in the tank about 2 years ago. guage remains pointed at 1/4 full tank level at all times. forced to keep track of fuel level by resetting the milage tracker at each tank fill-up. when miles reach around 250 its time to find a gas station to fill up again. have run out of gas 5-10 times in the last 2 years. several of the sudden "out-of-gas" events were also false. vehicle had gas, but engine stalled as though it had run out of gas. car was pulled to the side of interstate and coasted to nearby gas station.
Power door locks function intermittently. sometimes they all lock/unlock, sometimes no doors lock/unlock, sometimes certain doors lock/unlock. sometimes the windows operate very slowly as well. I have only used the locks when the vehicle IS stationary, but I have noticed the window problem when both moving and stationary. this has been an issue for over a year, I can't pinpoint the exact time it first happened, but it IS an ongoing issue.
My fuel gauge read empty after I filled up my tank. after driving for a few miles my service engine soon light came on. it will spontaneously read full, then empty then partially full then near empty etc etc. in researching this topic this seems to be a well documented issue for gm and it appears in the luck of the draw now my vehicle joins the large number of vehicles with this issue. I don't see a recall for this in my research for my 2007 97-X. IS there a broader scope recall?? some sites indicate a willingness of gm to pay half the cost?? seems odd that if this IS something that IS common among gm vehicles why would gm not honor a repair of a known faulty design??
Low beams flash on and off while driving. They do this on smooth and bumpy roads, and while sitting at stop lights. Sometimes only one goes out. Some times it IS the right one, and sometimes the left, but so far it has only been one at a time for any length of time. Turning the lights on and off makes them both come on for a short period. Then on goes out again.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact stated that the driver side electrical control panel failed to function. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair for longer than a year. the dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the contact's vehicle would receive the recall repair. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. While driving approximately 30 mph, the headlights burned out. The failure recurred on one occasion. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility) several months ago and stated that the part needed was not available within a reasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The contact stated that while traveling, the low beams failed to work. The dealer indicated that they would be able to repair the vehicle with a replacement part until the part for the recall repair was available. The contact was waiting for the appointment to remedy the failure and was unable to verify when the new part for the recall would be available. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. We have headlights that randomly go out since we purchased this car. it was serviced twice for driver side front door module. I expressed concern both times about the lights. received letter in jan./15 for headlight modular recall - but no parts available at that time. now notified that my car IS not part of that recall. well the lights still go out periodically and we have to drive with the fog lights on. thank god no one has been injured. *tr
As my daughter was driving in elon north carolina, both headlights failed. she was able to get the high beams to work. she took the car the following day to a garage. they confirmed the lights worked intermittently. meaning - they would turn off for no reason. we called saab, at the 800 number to be told that we had xenon lamps so it was not a recall item. I explained the issue was identical to what had been reported on other models. the reply = gm had not told us we have to recall those yet. she gave me the name of a dealer 30 minutes away and told me we were responsible for the charges. ok that IS fine- but I have a hard time believing this IS not related to the recall. read the posts on the internet - it IS all over it for the same issue. something IS wrong and someone IS going to die because of it. my daughter was lucky. please look into the lighting issues in all of the 9-7X. Thank you. *tr
The compressor and/or suspension air bags for the electronically controlled air suspension system began to periodically fail to raise the rear portion of the vehicle. The problem continued to occur periodically especially when the temperature fell below 35 degrees which made me suspect whether the system was built to withstand cold temperatures over a period of years. Currently, the compressor and/or suspension air bags does not appear to be engaging consistently. I have heard this problem from envoy and trailblazer owners as well. Thank you for looking into this problem. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. While driving at 75 mph, the low beam headlights failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. While driving at 35 mph, the check engine warning light, the oil indicator light, and the "stop driving vehicle, take the vehicle to a dealer" indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the engine coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the contact also noticed that the vehicle was burning a lot of engine oil and there was blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. While staring the vehicle, the service stabilization unit warning light illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
TL* the contact owned a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, there was a popping noise and the vehicle caught fire. A police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer and deemed totaled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.
Upon entering my vehicle and starting it, I attempted to roll down the drivers side window and the window began to smoke and would not roll up or down. No trouble with it before hand. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 9-7X. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the traction control warning light illuminated and the vehicle decelerated. The vin was unavailable.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 saab 97. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the fuel gauge was indicating incorrect level readings. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 102,000. The vin was not available.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The subject vehicles are model year (MY) 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2004-2007 Buick Rainier, 2003-2008 Isuzu Ascender, 2005-2009 Saab 9-7X, 2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR, 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, and 2006-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. This scope includes the Trailblazer/Envoy variants: 2002-2006 Envoy XL/Trailblazer EXT and 2004-2005 Envoy XUV. The original scope of this investigation was expanded to include all vehicles equipped with the subject Headlight Driver Module (HDM). The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.
On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
The office of defects investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by General Motors (GM) as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 5,089 unique reports indicating an inaccurate fuel level reading while driving.General Motors stated that this condition occurs when the contacts of the fuel sensor wear prematurely. Most of the complaints indicated an empty fuel gauge reading after filling the tank.Less than 10 percent of theODI complaints involved an engine stall incident.During this investigation, GM developed a remedy procedure and issued special coverage bulletin instructing dealers to install a new design fuel level sensor. The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2011 and the owner letter mailing began on August 15, 2011.See the investigative file for copies of GM's bulletin and owner letter. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
The Office of Defects Investigation has received 668 complaints alleging inaccurate fuel gauge reading while driving in model year 2005-07 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, and Saab 9-7x vehicles.Of the 668 complaints, 58 incidents were alleged to result in a vehicle stall.Of the 58 stalling incidents, 43 complaints reported stalling because the fuel level reading indicated more fuel availability than what is actually in the fuel tank. One complaint alleged a vehicle crash after the vehicle stalled while exiting the interstate, became disabled, and was struck from behind.Summarily, the complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with most complaints received within the past year.A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences associated with the alleged defect.
