Volvo Car USA, LLC. (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2019-2024 S60 vehicles. The passenger air bag may not be secured properly, which can cause the air bag to deploy improperly.
Risk and remedy
Risk
An air bag that does not deploy properly in a crash increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts securing the passenger air bag, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 5, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10254.
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2019-2020 V90, XC60, S60, V60, V60CC, S90, V90CC, S90L, and XC90 vehicles. The low-pressure fuel pump can blow a fuse and fail.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Failure of the low-pressure fuel pump can cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 2, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10100.
Volvo Cars USA LLC (Volvo Cars) is recalling certain 2019-2020 S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, S90L, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. Due to a software/hardware incompatibility, the Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB) system may not detect obstacles and engage as intended.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If the automatic emergency braking system does not engage as intended, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will update the Active Safety Domain Master (ASDM) software, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R29998.
Volvo Car USA LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2019 S60 vehicles. The rear suspension toe link flange lock nuts may not have been properly tightened, possibly resulting in a sudden change in vehicle handling.
Risk and remedy
Risk
A sudden change in vehicle handling can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear toe link flange bolts and lock nuts, replacing them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 6, 2019. Owner's my contact Volvo Customer Service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R19938.

I was pulling into a parking spot in a strip mall parking lot. When I braked after turning into the parking spot, the brakes failed. The car moved forward and hit the Chevy Suburban parked in front of it and started to push it. The automatic collision avoidance system did not stop the car, either. The owner of the Suburban was in that vehicle and was able to put it in gear and move it out of the way. My car continued to move forward at the speed it had been going at when the brakes failed so apparently it was still accelerating. The car then ran into a concrete bollard, and that stopped the car. The control panel was completely blank and the car could not be restarted. The car incurred front end damage and was towed to a collision shop, where it is now. When returned, it will go to the Volvo dealership to be checked out. I don't know whether the problem can be reproduced; by the time the two truck arrive an hour after the incident, the car could be started and appeared to be operating normally.

The crimping on the A/C hose from the firewall to the compressor failed and leaked all the freon from the system. This is a design flaw, the mounting location causes excess vibration in the hose leading to the crimping failure. There are countless forum posts and other complaints filed by owners of the same vehicle for the exact same A/C hose. This should be a recall from Volvo. It is a major safety issue for customers like me who live in a humid environment, without A/C the windshield can fog over and hinder visibility. I contacted Volvo Customer Care for reimbursement and was denied as my car was not under warranty. My car only has 40,000 miles on it and this part shouldnt fail in this manner, especially at my low mileage. I have since purchased their extended warranty as this part will eventually fail again (from the design flaw in A/C system mounting location) and I don't want to pay the large repair costs again. The NHTSA should investigate this with all owners of this year/make/model and they will find Volvo needs to declare a recall and reimburse owners for the repair costs.

The DIM (Driver Instrument Module) flickers intermittently and I have no idea when it's going to go out completely. It actually does go out and there's a solid white panel or colored lines, but it comes back in. This displays the speedometer & fuel. This is a safety issue. I would hate for this to go completely out while I am driving. I do not know the cause for the malfunction. However, per the Volvo tech; they're aware this is a reoccurring issue.

Passenger seat was unbolted from floor during a service appointment and not secured when dealer returned vehicle to me. Passenger safety was at risk due to the seat rocking during acceleration and deceleration and in turns. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and has since been repaired. No warnings issued by vehicle. The dealer error occurred 10/16/24. It was corrected 10/17/24 after vehicle was returned to dealer. This was a result of dealer negligence.

Have there been complaints about the Pirelli tires with foam inlays falling apart because the foam comes unattached, then causing misalignment. Car becomes unsafe to drive as the tires start to disintegrate. My car started shaking so bad it became difficult to drive. Turned out foam inlay had become unattached which caused uneven wear and some tire disintegration along with the alignment getting out of whack. Tire size 235/40R19 96V pirelli p-zero - It happened with all four tires. Two in the front were relatively new and had less than 10000 miles on them

Since purchase of my vehicle, the vehicle has had a vibration on the highway from 72-83mph with 2 different sets of wheels AND tires, both Pirelli tires but different models. My local Volvo dealer refused to address the issue due to the issue occurring over the speed limit. So they were no help. There are quite a few other 2019 and up Volvo S60 and XC90 owners that experience this same issue. The issue is felt through the bottom of the seats, backrest and steering wheel. You can also visually see the vibration if there is a bottle in the cup holder. The steering wheel "shakes" left to right.

Service manager advised to replace all 4 tires due to previous experience with OEM Perelli tire failures on Volvo vehicles. Replaced all 4 tires at Costco at $1112+ cost. 235/40/19 XL RUN FLAT: At 20,750 miles, Sudden Extreme Vibration at Interstate Speed. Confirmed by Schumacher Volvo Service on 28 Oct 2023. Service Writer and Technician advised tire/s failing due to 'foam' separating inside tire. Rotated tires and could not determine which tire. Advised to replace all tires due to experience with same problem on same tires. Recommended purchasing another brand at Costco.

On December 24, I was about a quarter mile into my drive when the car shut off. The dashboard went blank and I had to coast to a stop. I was unable to restart or use any parts of my car except for the emergency blinker. Nothing alerted me on my dashboard prior to this incident. I could not use the SOS alert button in the car. I had a half tank of gas. I had to wait in the 9 degreeF cold for 2 hours before it could be towed to the service center. My speed was approximately 25MPH on a local road and I don't know what would have happened if this occurred at any higher speed with more traffic. Prior to this on 11/15/22, I had another incident with this car. I could not open the doors with the key FOB and then I could not start the car. A battery jump was attempted by the tow service and it did not work. The car was towed to Hudson Valley Volvo service center where they completed software control module downloading, electrical equipment trouble shooting etc., for 3 days and I was able to drive it again. Unfortunately, I do not feel safe driving this car.

I was driving down our main road and I saw and smelled smoke coming out of the air vents, then a warning light came on my dashboard for my 12V battery I pulled over right away and opened the trunk and saw fire on the left-hand side. I attempted to extinguish the fire myself using soda, I was pulling clothing (2 shirts and napkins) out of the car and burned my hand We towed the car to Volvo and they are claiming it’s not their fault We have only had the car for 4 months And my husband could have died or worse if my child was in the back seat!

Gear shifts into neutral randomly at low speeds after coming to a complete stop when auto-off on the engine is activated. This happens on the road when pulling out of an intersection and the gear shifter needs to be physically moved into neutral then drive to engage the transmission again. My dealership was unable to reproduce the problem. I took a video of it when it occurred. There have been no warning lights or indications on the dash when this happens.

Fortunately it stopped before I was injured, but I wondered what would happen if I was a very big person ' could they have been pinned against the steering wheel and injured? I sent a note to volvo, and they responded the same day (sat 13-mar-2021), and their rep stated "the owner's manual would have instructions on how to set a driver's profile to a selected key fob to avoid a situation like this in the future. please let us know if you need anything further at this time."

First repair was free, second time the repair was to cost $500. third time (at a different dealership)repair was no cost ("coffee or other may have gotten into the switch" one mechanic not related to volvo suggested that they simply disconnect the battery, wait and reconnect so that the computer system IS voided for a few minutes. To hide my eyes from the blinding light, I had to move the steering wheel to very uncomfortable position (what still didn't solve the problem) or pretty much cover flashing spots with my hands. That creates a hazardous conditions everytime when the sun IS out. I am attaching a picture, but it doesn't show how harsh are these lights on human eye. That needs to be experienced. Maybe it wouldn't be that much of a problem if it was rare but it happens continuously when the sun IS higher on the sky (around noon hours). *tr

TL* the contact leased a 2019 volvo S60. Upon leasing the vehicle, the lane keep assist feature only worked approximately 10% of the time. Also, the forward collision avoidance failed to operate. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stopped abruptly on a wide open road with no objects in view. The contact stated that an unknown warning indicator flashed when the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the local service center. The contact took the vehicle to volvo cars of queens (207-22 northern blvd, bayside, ny 11361, 718-428-2118) where he was informed that the failures were not a widespread issue; however, they were familiar with the defects. The contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The dealer provided a loaner vehicle and informed the contact that a diagnostic would be performed. The contact was informed that an investigation would be launched with the manufacturer to investigate the defects. The vehicle had not been returned to the contact. The failure mileage was unknown.

Within the first month of leasing this new car (< 250 miles), both low profile oem front tires (235/40r-19 pirelli p zero all season vol volvo, ks, pncs XL, part number 3158400) were damaged by potholes. I was told by one local tire shop that low profile tires are more susceptible to this type of damage. I have not damaged tires on potholes like this before. Volvo does not warrant these (unless you purchase their expensive road hazard package), and pirelli's warranty does not cover this type of damage. The new tires cost $536.34, and there's an additional $25 per tire for mounting and balancing.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
