Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 1995 Cadillac Deville. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
2 recalls name the 1995 Cadillac Deville. Newest first.
Some passenger vehicles equipped with 4.0L V8 engines have a condition in which the nylon tubing used in the fuel rail construction may degrade and crack. additionally, the 1995 model year uses a unique underhood fuel return line that may crack. cracking of the fuel rail or return line tubing can result in a fuel leak into the engine compartment.
Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine fuel rail with a new stainless steel fuel rail. dealers will also install a revised chassis fuel return line. the recall began on june 2, 2004, for 1996-1997 oldsmobile aurora vehicles. owners of 1995 cadillacs and 1996-1997 oldsmobile aurora were sent letters on august 6, 2004. additional letters to owners will be forthcoming. owners should contact oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. inadvertent deployment of the air bags can occur due to water intrusion.
Deployment of the air bag without warning could cause a driver to lose vehicle control increasing the risk of a vehicle crash and personal injury.
Dealers will clean the exterior case of the sensing and diagnostic module (sdm) and appply a potting compound to the sdm case and electrical connector body.
As I was pulling off from a stop sign, passenger and driver airbags deployed unexpectedly with no reason causing the front windshield to shatter and leaving the steering wheel busted open along side passenger dash. Also leaving me with burns, scratches on my chin and small shards of glass in my face and forearms.
The contact owns a 1995 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration and inadvertently shifted into cruise control and then seized in full idle. The accelerator pedal depressed independently. The high battery voltage and oxygen sensor warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure and diagnosed that the vehicle needed an idle control motor replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
The fuel line made of heavy plastic cracked and caused all the fuel to leak from the car near the engine as I was driving near my home. I am lucky the car did not catch fire before I realized it was leaking as I drove down the road.
TL* the contact owns a 1995 cadillac deville. While driving approximately 55 mph, a large amound of smoke appeared from the front driver side. The contact pulled the vehicle over, opened the hood, and noticed flames. The contact extinguished the fire and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was diagnosed that there was a fuel rail leakage. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 04v110000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Strong odor of fuel under driver side in between driver and passenger door ...fuel pump slowly went out ..replaced fuel pump odder became worse now having to remove the fuel tank and check all fittings and hoses for a leak crack split...??? *tr
While driving up an incline on hot day with ac on I got message no charge, and "engine hot shutdown soon", & ac compressor off! (A no brainer with belt shredded!!) as well as steering going numb. When I looked under the hood the serpentine belt had slipped off the pulleys & shredded. upon closer inspection it was determined that the power steering pump "adapter" has a leak that drips oil directly onto the belt & pulleys which are smooth with nothing to stop belt from sliding off should a leak occurs. I have been unable to find "power steering pump adapter" in salvage yard & its out of production at gm & not in stock at my local dealer. *tr
I observed a liquid puddle about midway between the front and rear doors, on the driver side of the car. upon further examination I concluded the liquid was gasoline. I felt where I thought the leak was coming from and felt tubing. I felt the a tube line and it crumbled in my hand. upon further visual inspection, I observed other areas (along the drivers door) that were also leaking gasoline. much of the gas line IS crumbling plastic, causing gasoline to leak under the car. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1995 cadillac deville. the contact stated that gasoline was leaking from under the vehicle. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign ID number: 04v110000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 cadillac deville.the contact stated that the frame was rusted and while driving 20 mph , it broke in half. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and they offered no assistance. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who advised him that this was a frequent problem with this vehicle. The failure and current miles were 105000.
I went to start my car (1995 cadillac concourse) and before the engine turned-over, I heard a very loud pop, similar to a back fire, except that this noise came from underneath the hood. I then, simultaneously, noticed smoke coming from under neath the closed hood. I jumped out of the car and opened the hood to find that the engine was on fire. I ran back inside the house to get water and wet towels to try and put out the fire, which, after about 5 to 6 minutes, I was able to extinguish the fire. the engine had never caught on fire before this incident. damaged to the engine from the fire appeared to be substantial in terms of wires, hoses, various plastic covers associated with the engine. because I am not a mechanic, I can't say what kind of structural damage occurred during the fire. as a result of this fire, I have been without my vehicle since 5/7/09. the only way I have been getting to and from work IS with the generosity of my family and friends. I called general motors on 8 may 09, to inform them of the fire, but, as of 6/13/09, general motors has refused to repair my vehicle, even though it IS one of their vehicles that was under a recall for potential engine fires. the recall item IS called a fuel rail. *Tr
The car wont always start and when it dose start it wont stay running unless you have your foot on the gas the car will stall out while driving down the road at any speed the car stalls out all the time and doesn't start right away. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 cadillac deville. the contact smelled gasoline near his vehicle. when he opened the hood, gasoline squirted out. the dealer stated that the vehicle had been inspected in 2004 and repaired under nhtsa campaign ID number 04v110000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). the current mileage was 140,000 and failure mileage was 108,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 cadillac concours. he stated that the service air bag light illuminated and remained on. the dealer stated that they would repair the service air bag light but there would be a charge. the current mileage was 102,081 and the failure mileage was unavailable.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's tire experienced a blowout while driving 40 mph. a vibration was felt, and the vehicle pulled towards the left before blowout occurred. regular tire service was provided. there was no abnormal bulging in the tire. the manufacturer was contacted and had the tire checked out by the place of purchase. a letter was received from the manufacturer stating technical staff examined tire dot # hnc7frez1606, and determined the tire failed by impact from an unknown object. the contact expressed the cause of the blowout was due to a manufacturer defect. there was no recall indicated on the nhtsa website to support that the blowout was called by a recall. no recall # could be provided because the contact did not know the component that was affected. the tire manufacturer was michelin.*ak
Fuel fill tube has rusted apart on 1995 cadillac concours deville can not put fuel into the vehicle. *Jb
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 45 mph, the driver's seat started moving backward. eventually the entire seat was lying down and the contact could not reach the pedals. the contact pulled off of the road. the seat was pulled back up in an upright position. the contact thought the reset button could have accidentally been pressed. however, while pulling back into traffic, the seat started moving backward again. the contact drove home by sitting on the edge of the seat. the seat IS the reclining position and will not move forward. the passenger seat IS working properly. the dealership has been informed. *ak
I own a 95 cadillac that had less than 3000 miles on it when I got it in 95. In 2000 the fuel pump shorted out in the fuel tank burning up the fuel pump and the wiring harness going to it. I had the car repaired at stutzman cadillac in winchester va. In november 2005 the same thing happened again. I called cadillac main office and talked to told them about what had happened. The only reply I got from them was they were sorry that I was having problems with the car. The first time this happened the car had 43000 miles on it . It now has 81000. It seems to me that there ought to be a fuse or something to keep this from happening. *jb
Dt: the contact stated vehicle had a crack in the fuel rail line tubing. It broke off, and there IS no gas going to the injectors. She noticed this on 8-26-05. Contacted the dealer, and there was recall 04v110000. however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak *nm
While in reverse coming out of the driveway brakes failed.the front brakes were already bad. Upon depressing the brake pedal it went completely to the floor. Contacted the dealer. The problem still remained open. *Ak
Dealership noticed a leak in the fuel control regulator line while replacing the fuel rail for the fuel rail tubing recall 04v110000.*ak
The fuel rail in my 1995 cadillac concours has started to leak gasoline. I am interested in knowing if other consumers have had this problem. thanks, larryr.
Severe vibration between 50 to 80 mi. Per hour. Have spent over $1000.00 to try to remedy problem. Dealership said they can't do anymore and it must be a manufacturing defect. There IS also a very loud popping noise when the steering wheel IS turned in either direction. It comes from either side and possibly chassis. At first thought it was struts or bearings. Complete front end repair did not fix the noise. Car has never been in an accident either. There IS also a problem with changing gear shift from parking to reverse or drive on an incline. Sometimes it jams and has to be jerked very had to go into gear. Other times it slips from gear to another. Have replaced brakes 2 times. Still has shudder upon pressing brakes regardless of speed. An offensive odor like rotten eggs, especially when using air conditioner. Dealership said they found this a lot in this certain vehicle. They do not know how to fix. It IS a manufacturing defect. Owner before me has already replace the ignition module. A dealership said another manufacturing defect. Fuel pump wires were burned and replaced by previous owner. Battery cables also shorted out and were replaced on 8/29/03. Battery continues to be drained if vehicle has not been started within a 3 day period. *cb
Leak in 95 cadillac fuel rail. *ak
The driver's side chrome wheel cracked and allowed air to seep out. this could possibly result in an accident, according to the consumer. *ak air had to be placed in the tire every day and ruined the tire well. cadillac had been made aware of the problem. *scc *jb
The wire to the fuel tank over heated and caused the fuel pump to fail. *Jb updated 12-12-07. *kb the fuel pump harness had melted. Updated*jb
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On march 3, 2004, general motors notified odi that it was recalling approximately 94,000 my 1995-97 oldsmobile aurora vehicles equipped with 4.0L V8 engines (rpo L47 - VIN8 c) to address concerns with underhood fuel leakage from cracked fuel rails and, in some of the vehicles, cracked fuel return lines. According to gm, the nylon tubing (PA12) used in the fuel rail construction in these vehicles may degrade and crack.gm's supplier attributed the cracking to the combined effects of heat, time, alcohol fuel, fuel pressure cycling, and design stresses.in addition, gm stated that the my 1995 aurora uses a unique underhood fuel return line that may also crack at unusually high rates.gm dealers will install a new fuel rail constructed out of stainless steel in all of the recalled vehicles and will also install a revised chassis fuel return line in the my 1995 auroras. On april 16, 2004, general motors notified odi that it was adding approximately 389,000 my 1995-97 cadillac seville, deville and eldorado vehicles equipped with 4.6L V8 engines (rpo's LD8 and L37 - VIN8 y and 9) to recall 04v-110.the recalled cadillacs will receive the new stainless steel fuel rails.this engineering analysis IS closed.
The fuel rail assemblies used in the subject vehicles were manufactured by dana.the fuel rail jumper tubes were made of monolayer nylon 12 (pa12).in model year (my) 1998, the jumper tube material was changed from PA12 to m-bond (a multi-layer ptfe/pa12).in addition, all service parts produced since the end of production 1997 use the m-bond jumper tubes. Material analysis performed by dana on failed fuel rails showed that the mono-layer nylon 12 jumper tubes are susceptible to environmental stress cracking (esc).gm believes the esc IS a result of heat, time, alcohol blended fuel, fuel pressure cycling, and designed in stress. Eight of the gm complaints are duplicative of odi complaints.odi has received 77 of it's 123 complaints in the past 12 months.fuel rail part sales over the last three years range from 3.0 percent of production for the my 1997 cadillac vehicles to 13.1 percent for the my 1995 auroras.at least one of the fire incidents occured while the vehicle was parked within a garage attached to the consumers home.the fire resulted in damage to the dwelling as well as the total loss of the vehicle.this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis.

If a 1995 cadillac interior IS exposed to significant water intrusion, such as from water leaks, a window left open in the rain, or driving through high water up to the carpet level, the supplemental inflatable restraint (sir) system sensing and diagnostic module (sdm) can be damaged.if this occurs, both the driver and passenger air bags can deploy when the ignition switch IS turned on, even if there has been no frontal impact or crash.as a result of these deployments, gm conducted an advisory letter campaign, number 51-01-08 entitled inadvertent deployment of air bags when interior exposed to wet conditions, in february 1996.letters to owners mailed pursuant to this compaign warned owners to not start their engines if the vehicle interior had been exposed to substantial amounts of water.odi has received a total 8 reports of inadvertent air bag deployment in 1995 cadillac vehicles.
A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
