On certain passenger vehicles, the fuel pump module and the power train control module (pcm) software may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions.
This could cause a crash to occur without prior warning.
Dealers will reprogram the power train control module. The fuel pump module will also be replaced on vehicles built from august 1, 2004 through september 30, 2004. the recall began on november 21, 2006. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Certain sport utility vehicles equipped with halogen headlamps may experience an intermittent and eventual total loss of headlamp function.
The head lights may not operate properly which could result in intermittent or no headlight function. this could impair a driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect, and replace if necessary, the wiring harness and low beam bulb on both headlamp assemblies free of charge. the recall began on march 28, 2005. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
2005 Chrysler Pacifica was purchased from a friend’s grandfather who kept the car garaged the car is literally like new inside and out the under carriage looks like new no rust I was impressed but had a rattling in the front end I figured it was a strut took it in to have struts and all front end parts replaced to my surprise I get a call from the shop engine cradle and it bushings rusted out tried buying a replacement unavailable after doing some digging it’s a common problem among the Pacifica I’m afraid to drive it was told when it completely fails it’s going to be catastrophic incident. I understand it a 20 yo car but no rust anywhere on the body or the undercarriage but the engine cradle is almost completely rusted out to the point that the car is not safe to drive something is definitely wrong and reading others reporting the same issue I don’t know there car’s condition but like I said mine is rust free even the undercarriage but the engine cradle is totally rusted out something is wrong here Chrysler had to know something about this it should be recalled or at the very least make the engine cradle available for purchase and fix the rusting issue with it!! I have literally replaced the entire suspension front and back new shocks and struts tires brakes trying to fix the rattle to find out it’s the cradle bushings and cradle are the issue and it’s no longer offered and used ones are all damaged by rust it’s pretty bad the car is going to have to be junked unless I put another used damaged engine cradle on it ! What to do ?
Engine cradle rusted out! Safety risk. Had replaced. Never told by chrysler that it would rust out. now the steering wheel won’t move! Power steering fluid full. Cannot drive it. I’m a 72YO woman with cancer, no family, cannot afford expensive repairs. I need my car repaired.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that upon start the vehicle, the gear shifter failed to operate as needed without warning. The contact called and informed several dealers of the failure and was informed that there was a defect with the power train. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Engine cradle, motor mount and sub frame completely rotted out. structural integrity at a total loss. Vehicle is no longer road worthy. This problem Chrysler is continuing to ignore is definitely Hazardous for other vehicles and their occupants if catastrophic failure of the above named components were to occur while driving even at normal operating speeds. How many complaints have to be made about this failure of design before something is done? how many people have to endure hardship over loss of transportation due to having repairs done, figuring out ways to cover costs or total loss of vehicle how many people have to be injured due to the problems this vehicle comes with? This problem is not just a few vehicles. It's pretty much every one made within the time period. Something has to be done about this. It's been a problem put in front of your and their face with nothing done and no accountability taken for way too long. It's time for you to do what you are here to do. Safety right? Then do it. This is not the last you will hear about this matter. From me or the thousands of othe Chrysler Pacifica owners nationwide. I myself refuse to go quietly into the dark night. I'm forwarding and sending this message to any and all media outlets and anyone else that will listen. It starts with 1 I am that 1. Do better, better yet, do your job. Thank you for your time. I look forward to seeing your actions on this matter
Driving normally when vehicle shut off and rear of engine burst into flame. It seems multiple people have had this problem.
is the subframe, engine cradle under recall for rust?

My engine in my car just shut down in the middle of driving. I was told it was a recall and was fixed yrs ago but it has happened 3 times since. Twice after getting gas and one time driving in the school parking lot. Lost all control of power steering and time of engine trouble. Car started back up and engine light came on and went back of and back on. Also smelt burning wires but couldn’t find anything

I have had two pacificas 2004 and 2005 both did the exact same thing. Started with an odor of exhaust or fumes of some sort in the same week. It lost power, overheated, had to pulled home. Would start if cold for short period of time. In less than the same week. Went to have someone work on it and the battery was dead where I had tried to start it to many times/ my fault. However as soon as it got connection the key wasnt even in the switch and the motor was rolling over. that one sat at that time. Found 05 within a week or two and figured one for parts if break down. Nothing at all wrong starting out. Only drove the 05 apprx 3months and started the exact same thing from odor to overheating and I do not know alot about vehicles but seems to have jumped time. However I am a single woman and do not carry a license mechanic and im now stranded with no vehicle to get around while I have two pacificas seem same issues just drove one a little longer. I may be rough on thing but exact problems seems to be a malfunction on ur part........vin to other one2c8gf68414r644267...and I do not have invoices because I cant afford to get them fixed. I have my titles and sale prices and only few months of owning. So I just expect to at least see if its chryslers problem

Found out that my front sub frame/engine cradle IS badly corroded and full of holes after having my tires changed.
The frame has rusted through. The engine cradle IS rusted. chrysler admits there IS a problem but refuses to do anything about it. chrysler had a recall for this issue and then cancelled the recall. there was also a lawsuit filed, that was dismissed due to chrysler's bankruptcy.
There IS a default with the ignition switch when trying to start the car. There are five more chrysler pacificas that I know of with the same problem.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On November 18, 2010, NHTSA's Recall Management Division (RMD) opened an audit query (AQ10-001) to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on safety recall campaigns. It was expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets perform necessary recall-related remedies on the vehicles owned and then rented/leased for use on the roadways.RMD queried three (3) major motor vehicle manufacturers (Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors) and requested data regarding completion figures for fifteen (15) discreet safety recalls.Analysis of this data demonstrated that rental car recalls completion was neither complete nor consistent. The rental car companies representing the largest market share in the industry were then queried as to their respective policies for the rental, lease, and sale of vehicles with open recalls. The data and responses from the manufacturers and the rental car companies can be found in the document repository by accessing the ?Associated Documents link above. In December 2015, Congress enacted the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.One section of the Act prohibits rental car companies from renting, leasing, or selling motor vehicles subject to open safety recalls. With the passage of the FAST Act and its prohibition, there is no continuing need for the agency to investigate rental car recall completions.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The agency reserves the right to open any future investigations, including audits of individual recalls, or groups of recalls, or rental car companies, to examine more closely safety recalls performance and completion issues in this area.
In a november 8, 2006 letter, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning two separate defect conditions that could result in engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2005-2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles (nhtsa recall no. 06V-432).my 2005 vehicles built in august and september of 2004 are being recalled to correct a defect in the secondary fuel pump modules, which may have an improper press fitting on the inlet that can become dislodged and shut-off fuel flow.all my 2005-2006 vehicles built between july 8, 2004 and november 11, 2005 are being recalled to correct a powertrain control module (pcm) software issue with the evaporative emissions system which can also cause stalling.for both conditions, engine stall incidents tend to occur during left turns. There were 17,375 vehicles built during august and september 2004 that were affected by both the fuel pump module and pcm software conditions.there were 30 voqs submitted to odi, 58 consumer complaints to dcc and 829 field reports relating to vehicles produced during this period.while these are mostly related to the fuel pump condition, some may have been caused by the software fault.the resulting stall while driving failure rate for this period IS 5,278 incidents per 100,000 vehicles.there were two crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 1,021 warranty claims for fuel pump module replacement that appear related to engine stall (5.9% claim rate). The population for the remaining vehicles included in 06v-432 (i.e., those only affected by the software condition) IS 114,523.there were 97 voqs, 124 consumer complaints to dcc and 454 dcc field reports relating to these vehicles.the resulting stall while driving failure rate IS 589 per 100,000 vehicles.there were seven crashes alleged to have resulted from these incidents.there were 3,211 warranty claims for pcm reflash that appear related to engine stall in the total population of 131,898 vehicles (2.4% claim rate). All calculations are based on unique vins (multiple/repeat failures not included in these calculations) with no duplication across categories.dcc's recall will reprogram the pcm software and replace the fuel pump modules in all affected vehicles.this engineering analysis has been closed.
Ea06-010 was opened based on information gathered in preliminary evaluation pe06-009.pe06-009 was opened based on information obtained in a peer information request as part of a preliminary evaluation (pe05-050) of fuel tank puncture in model year (my) 2003 through 2006 nissan murano vehicles.in january 2006, nissan submitted a defect information report to odi that identified a defect in the fuel tank shielding in approximately 209,000 my 2003 through 2006 nissan murano vehicles.to remedy the problem, nissan installed shields on the exposed front surfaces of the recalled vehicles.peer data collected for my 2004 through 2005 pacifica vehicles during pe05-050 included 120 field reports documenting tank replacements due to puncture or damage by road debris as part of a parts restriction program conducted at the request of the tank supplier (inergy). Analysis of the information provided by chrysler during pe05-050, pe06-009 and ea06-010 show that the front surface of the fuel tanks in the subject pacifica vehicles IS not completely protected fromroad debris by the floor pan or other body structure.the tanks were compared with peer vehicles, including several identified by chrysler as sharing similar design characteristics (unshielded high-density polyethylene plastic fuel tanks in a saddlebag configuration).some of the peer designs reviewed by odi packaged the tanks in recessed cavities in the floor pan or used shields to protect exposed surfaces on the front of the tank.in general, these tanks had the lowest complaint rates for tank puncture by road debris. However, other peer designs reviewed by odi had packaging similar to the subject vehicles and some of these also had some complaints of tank puncture.none of the peer vehicles analyzed by odi had tanks puncture data comparable to chrysler's field reports from its part restriction programs, so that data could not be used in peer comparisons. Analysis of the complaint data shows that the rate for the subject vehicles IS about half that observed in the recalled murano vehicles and not significantly higher than some of the peer vehicles analyzed with similar design characteristics.testing by the nhtsa vehicle research and testing center (vrtc) showed differences between the murano and pacifica fuel tank packaging and exposure to road debris thrown by the front tires.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted.see document file for additional information regarding this resume.
On february 27, 2006 rq06-002 was opened in response to 60 complaints of engine stall, mostly during left-hand turns, in model year (my) 2004 to 2006 chrysler pacifica vehicles that were outside the scope of recall 04v-113.in march 2004, daimlerchrysler initiated recall 04v-113 on 34,561 my 2004 pacifica vehicles to correct a condition that could result in engine stall while making a left-hand turn after a cold-start.during rq06-002 it was determined that recall 04v-113 did correct the specific cause of the engine stalling condition for that specific population.however, two other conditions were identified that could also cause engine stalling during turning maneuvers:(1) an issue with misbuilt fuel pumps that primarily affected about 17,000 my 2005 pacifica vehicles built during august and september 2004; and (2) a software condition affecting vapor purge in about 131,000 my 2005-06 pacifica vehicles built from july 2004 through november 2005. An engineering analysis, ea06-013, has been opened to further examine the scope, frequency and safety consequences associated with each of these conditions in the subject vehicles.
On february 22, 2006, odi opened pe06-009 to investigate reports that the fuel tanks on model year (my) 2004 to 2005 chrysler pacifica vehicles may be punctured by contact with road debris.the number of reports submitted by chrysler was significantly higher than those submitted by other manufacturers who were requested to submit data as part of investigation pe05-050 into my 2003 to 2006 nissan murano vehicles that may have had insufficient shielding of the fuel tank to prevent punctures after contact with road debris.nissan issued recall 06v-003 involving increasing the shielding of the fuel tanks to reduce the likelihood of tank punctures. Chrysler has noted that they had in place from january 2003 to june 2005 a parts restriction program on pacifica fuel tank replacements which may have made the number of reports artificially high in comparison to manufacturers which did not have a similar program in effect.chrysler also questioned whether many of the field reports of fuel tanks replaced due to damage from unknown cause were actually punctured. This investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea06-010) to gather additional information concerning the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.
