These records cover every 1991 Ford F-350. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
7 recalls name the 1991 Ford F-350. Newest first.
This IS not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. however, it IS deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. vehicle description: 1990-1993 ford f-series vehicles equipped with dual fuel tanks and 4.9, 5.0,5.8, or 7.5 liter gasoline fueled engines. some vehicles can experience a cross tank fuel flow condition due to a damaged check…
Should this occur, the capacity of the receiving tank may be exceeded and fuel may overflow from the filler cap.
Ford IS extending the warranty for potential fuel cross-flow to 12 years of service or 150,000 miles from the vehicle's warranty start date, whichever occurs first. this cover will automatically transfer to subsequent owners at no charge. if a vehicle already has more than 150,000 miles, this overage will last until december 31, 2001. if the vehicle IS experiencing a fuel cross-flow condition, dealers will repair the condition free of charge.
This IS not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. however, it IS deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. equipment description: ford IS replacing all firestone wilderness at 15, 16, and 17 inch tires mounted on ford trucks and suvs. ford reports tread separation can occur due to a combination of the sensitivity of the tire…
Should the tread separate at highway speeds, a vehicle crash could occur, possibly resulting in personal injury or death.
The replacement/reimbursement program for this campaign expired on march 31, 2002. however, customers can contact ford at 1-877-917-3673 or go on-line to www.ford.com for possible assistance.
The ignition switch could experience an internal short circuit.
This condition could cause overheating, smoke, and possibly fire in the steering column area of the vehicle.
Dealers will replace the ignition switch.
The steel fuel return tubes that connect the frame fuel return lines with the engine fuel rail can contact the pinch weld flange connecting the dash panel to the floor pan. Continued contact leads to abrasion of the steel fuel return tube and eventually results in a fuel leak.
Abrasion of the steel tube wall that eventually causes a fuel leak may result in a fire, if a source of ignition IS present.
Ford dealers will replace the fuel return tubes with flexible stainless steel braided/teflon tubes. Dealers will also inspect the fuel supply tubes.
A malfunctioning check valve within the fuel pump assembly causes a portion of the unused fuel from one tank to be returned to the second tank. When this occurs, the capacity of the second tank can be exceeded, causing fuel spillage.
Spilled fuel can result in a fire when exposed to asource of ignition.
Replacement of the fuel pressure regulator and installation of redundant check valves.
Keys attached to the key ring of an ignition key while it IS in the vehicle ignition can become lodged in the steering lock receiver as the steering wheel IS being turned.
The lodged keys can cause loss of steering control, whichcan result in an accident when the vehicle IS being used on the highway.
A shield will be positioned between the steering wheel and the ignition switch and held in place by the steering lock band.
A revised brake lining noise insulator resulted in a decrease in the thermal insulation between the brake lining and the front brake caliper piston. This caused greater heat transfer to the caliper pistons with the potential to overheat the brake fluid and diminish brake effectiveness during severe braking conditions.
Increased stopping distances and inablility to holdvehicles on a steep grade results in increased risk of accident in the event ofa sudden stop or when constant braking IS needed to maneuver through areas withsteep grades.
Add snap-in insulators that attach to each of the front brake caliper pistons. In addition, vehicles with 7.5 l engines will have insulation added to the engine compartment brake lines.
About august 2012 I was informed by pettis tires, cordele, ga. That the two tires I had bought from them had been recalled. For approx. One year we traded phone calls and no progress was made. I called bf goodrich customer service and was told to go to sears auto in albany, ga. That lasted about three weeks, said they were unable to get replacements. Called customer service again they sent me to sunrise ford, sylvester, ga. Sunrise said they would replace them if they knew they would be reimbursed. So far no agency has been willing to get the replacements or are unsure about reimbursement. I was even told by petis tires in cordele, ga. To wait as long as I can because these are free miles on bad tires. The original letter from bf goodrich in july 2012 recommended getting these tires off the road as soon as possible because of "tread loss and/or rapid air loss resulting from tread belt separation". Not my idea of getting free miles on recalled tires. Two calls to customer service, three recommended dealers, and no calls back, no tires. No problem, these are free miles. customer service bf goodrich 1-800-637-5527. pettis tire, cordele ga. 229-273-1153. For one year they would not acknowledge my requests. Said they would call their supplier. Provided the reassurance that these are free miles. sears auto center, albany ga. 229-434-4328. I drove 1 hour because on the phone he said he could take care of it. Three weeks later he was still being sent the wrong tires from his supplier. sunbelt ford, sylvester, ga. 229-776-7691. Did not know of any recall, will call back. Next day they assured me there was a recall. They would not act until they were sure they would be reimbursed. Further calls went nowhere. in the original recall notice ofjuly 2012 bf goodrich suggests that if "bf goodrich retailer fails or IS unable to provide the service as described above without charge...you may submit a complaint to the administrator nhtsa". *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1991 ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would not restart and was towed where the contact examined the vehicle and noticed one of the dual fuel tanks was full and one was empty. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign ID number 93v125000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The failure and current mileages were 79,000.
Dt: consumers states the brakes fade. consumer steps on them and they go down to the floor slowly. It doesn't do any good to pump the brakes, it IS almost impossible to have vehicle stop coming down a hill.*ak
The vehicle caught on fire due to malfunction of alternator in the engine compartment.*jb *ts

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On july 14, 1993 ford filed a defect information report concerning fuel tank cross flow leakage on f-series light trucks and cab chassis built from july 22, 1989 through december 17, 1992.the remedy was to replace the fuel pressure regulator and install a check valve between each fuel supply line and fuel tank (2) to repair the supply side fuel cross flow problem (recall 93v-125).odi opened rq98-008 on may 29, 1998 because of the large number of alleged remedy failures and reports of fuel cross flow on vehicles outside of the recall population.based onthe information received from ford on august 11, september 30, and december 15, 1998, and the increasing trend of remedy failures and out of scope crossflow reports, odi opened ea99-032 on november 4, 1999.the attached engineering analysis closing report fully describes the results of this investigation and reason for closing.the subject vehicles can experience fuel transfer from one tank to the other due to malfunctions in the fuel system.when fuel IS pumped or returned to the non-operating tank (cross flow), the capacity of the non-operating tank can be exceeded, causing fuel to overflow past the filler cap, creating a fire potential.
