The parking brake control self-adjust pawl does not line up properly with the self-adjust rachet causing the pawl to slip over one or more teeth in the rachet.
When the above occurs, it can result in parking brake system ineffectiveness. The parking brake will not hold the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll freely, if the transmission IS not left in gear.
A wedge will be installed which will serve to lock the parking brake self-adjust mechanism pawl into engagement with the rachet. Also, owners will be advised to release and reapply the parking brake whenever tooth skip occurs and will be reminded to always turn off the engine and leave the vehicle in gear when the vehicle IS parked.
A malfunctioning check valve within the fuel pump assembly causes a portion of the unused fuel from one tank to be returned to the second tank. When this occurs, the capacity of the second tank can be exceeded, causing fuel spillage.
Spilled fuel can result in a fire when exposed to asource of ignition.
Replacement of the fuel pressure regulator and installation of redundant check valves.
The sound insulation on the engine side of the dash panel can contact the exhaust manifold.
Contact between the insulation and the hot exhaustmanifold may result in a engine compartment fire.
Dealers will modify the sound insulator at no cost to owners.
Water can enter the door latch release cable. If the vehicle IS operated in below freezing temperatures, the water in the door latch release cable can freeze and cause the latch mechanism to malfunction.
The malfunction of the door latch release can result inthree different problems: 1) the door will not be able to be relatched, 2) theinside door handle can become inoperative, and 3) the door could appear to belatched when it IS not, allowing the door to open unexpectedly if it IS jarred, and increasing the risk of injury to the adjacent seat occupant.
Revised door release cables and water shields will be installed.

Vehicle being towed behind motorhome on I-29 north of st.joseph,mo. Heard noise and saw smoke and motorhome began drifting to right. after stopping to investigate found left front tire blown off wheel, brake line severed, running board missing and considerable damage to left door and fender. put on spare then proceeded to palmyra, ne. For the evening. just after crossing in to wyoming the next day another loud report and the left rear tire blew out. same type of tire and same mileage as the front, only the belt had wrapped around the axle and locked up the wheel. I have this tire, what IS left of it anyway. conditions on both occurances: clear weather, temps in the mid to high 80 s, speed was 65 mph, traffic moderate. tires were checked and inflated to 50 psi prior to departing bartlett, tn. tread was about 50% on all four tires of the matched set. If vehicle had been driven instead of being towed, this could have been dangerous to occupents and other motorists in both incidents .*ak
Tires separated at the bead joint on each tire after only 3,000 to 5,000 miles. exploded through the tread causing damage to vehicle. have used these tires for years without mishap until about two years ago. problem started about two years ago. Concerned about the safety of these tires on other less stable vehicles.*ak
This IS the fourth tire failure of original equipment tires since nov 2000. *ak (dot number: vnop 65C tiresize: lt215/85)
When filling fuel tank, one tank would overflow into other tank and cause a spillage from that tank. Fuel tank repaired under recall a second time as goodwill gesture. currently, service manager refusing to do repairs again. 2ND owner. *ak

Front tires put on by dealer when I bought it 03/03/2000 on 06/13/2000 right front tire began to jump up and down and shake the entire truck. Tire store stated problem was due to possible belt seperation with-in the tire. I did not replace them with the same brand tires. I have not replaced the rear tires yet. Front alignment was check and determinded not to be a factor in the tire failure.( dot number: tire size: lt-225-16 )
Consumer had a water pump put on at the dealers. On the way home in the middle of traffic, fan belt came off, resulting in no steering and brakes. Consumer felt this was dangerous since vehicle lost fan belt five times earlier. Took vehicle to dealer, and had to pay for belts. dealer said there was a problem with belts on these vehicles. *ak

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On july 14, 1993 ford filed a defect information report concerning fuel tank cross flow leakage on f-series light trucks and cab chassis built from july 22, 1989 through december 17, 1992.the remedy was to replace the fuel pressure regulator and install a check valve between each fuel supply line and fuel tank (2) to repair the supply side fuel cross flow problem (recall 93v-125).odi opened rq98-008 on may 29, 1998 because of the large number of alleged remedy failures and reports of fuel cross flow on vehicles outside of the recall population.based onthe information received from ford on august 11, september 30, and december 15, 1998, and the increasing trend of remedy failures and out of scope crossflow reports, odi opened ea99-032 on november 4, 1999.the attached engineering analysis closing report fully describes the results of this investigation and reason for closing.the subject vehicles can experience fuel transfer from one tank to the other due to malfunctions in the fuel system.when fuel IS pumped or returned to the non-operating tank (cross flow), the capacity of the non-operating tank can be exceeded, causing fuel to overflow past the filler cap, creating a fire potential.
An engineering analysis closing report IS included.
