Vehicle description: certain sport utility vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 201, "occupant protection in interior impacts." these vehicles have a console cover/armrest cam latch that could release at less than the required load of the standard.

During a crash, the console cover could open and the cover or items stored under it could injury an occupant.
Remedy

TL* the contact owns a 2000 GMC envoy. The contact stated that the third row neon brake light was not given the proper illumination. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to correct the failure therefore, the dealer cut the third row neon brake light cable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,390 and the current mileage was 88,800.

I am the original owner of a 2000 GMC jimmy envoy. I smelled burning plastic as I was driving and was told by another motorist that I had no brake lights. the lights came on and stayed on and then they would not work. I took the vehicle to a local repair shop to replace the turn signal & hazard warning switch. this corrected the brake light problem. after reading about the reason for the recall of these switches, I disassembled the old switch only to find that it also had brass contacts for the hazard warning lamps. this was supposedly replaced in 2003 by a dealer. replacing it with the same part that was recalled! *Tr

10234, door trim comes off; 17660, hinge hood rattles; 26510, idler arm had to be replaced; 44938, pinion seals & power steering seals were leaking; 56785, cd player had to be replaced; 72375, transmission went out; 95819, computer had to be replaced; 106169, right headlamp had to be replaced (for almost $800!!!); and sporadic incidences of different dash lights coming on & staying on. obviously, all of these problems weren't on the date listed below, but that's the date of the first one.

Also in logging on I've listed my vin # with the 17 characters. the sight listed that I was giving an invalid # of less than 17 but, in fact I listed exactly the 17. mr

Consumer states that there was a recall on the on star system in the vehicle and what GMC IS doing replacing the on star system and in the process IS disableing the system. What GMC IS not doing IS informing the consumers with this problem so if the consumer ever needs help the on star system will not work until it IS activated. nlm

When dealership changed oil, an oil pressure hose was found to be leaking oil from engine. Problem was repaired by the dealership. *ak *tt vehicle has experienced several problems with the windshield wipers, deale has replaced the multifunction switch, rear wiper motor, front wiper terminal board and wiper module. rear speakers have humming noises, speaker was shorting out, later consumer heard whistle noises in the rear speaker. when starting, there was a rattle noise, dealer found exhaust out of alignment. creeking noise caused by faulty door pins and bushings, passenger side kick panel loose/falling off, dealer found right side panel loose. alternator voltage drops with load below 35 amps, dealer replaced alternator, there was a squeak in the rear suspension, dealer found the e brake cable was chaffing on bushings, dealer repositioned e brake cable. right front wheel bearing grinding, dealer replaced right front hub. left front hub replaced due to growling, dealer found hub was worn. *slc

The 2000 GMC envoy IS equipped with electrically folded outside rearview mirrors. On vehicle start, the right outside mirror of my vehicle would fold forward against the "a" pillar from its normal driving position. This occurred multiple times with different drivers. Several times the driver did not notice this had happened until the vehicle was in motion. The immediate corrective action was to use the mirror fold control switch to fold the mirrors back to their stowed position against the door glass. The mirror fold control switch was then manually repositioned and the mirrors both moved out to their normal driving position. The mirror fold control switch IS awkward for the driver to operate with the vehicle in motion. The dealer solution was to replace the entire right outside mirror assembly under warranty. (This also solved another incidental complaint that the mirror glass adjustment actuators moved jerkily.) the dealer stated this was a common problem and its cause was still being evaluated.

On november 30, 2001, general motors (gm) conducted safety recall 01v-364 for the subject vehicles built between september 16, 1999 and august 28, 2001 to remedy a defective hazard switch that would cause a loss of hazard and stop lamp illumination.the hazard switch IS contained within the vehicle multifunction switch.odi opened this investigation based on reports that some consumers were not notified of the original recall or that they had repairs done under 01v-364 but experienced subsequent multifunction switch failures.the multifunction switch supports the operation of cruise control, windshield wipers, exterior lighting and turn signals in addition to hazard and stop lamps. On may 21, 2008, gm notified the agency that it erroneously missed identifying 5,862 vehicles that should have been included in recall 01v-364.gm will now notify owners of these vehicles under a new nhtsa recall number 08v-231.owner notification began on june 17.the primary cause of brake lamp failure was a design change from copper to brass contact material in the hazard switch.this change was effective for vehicles built after september 16, 1999.gm changed the material back to copper for vehicles built after august 28, 2001. The remedy part for both 01v-364 and 08v-231 contains copper contacts.gm's data shows that less than 1% of vehicles repaired under recall 01v-364 required additional subsequent repair or replacement of the hazard or multifunction switch.this investigation IS closed.
