2 recalls name the 2001 GMC Yukon Denali. Newest first.
Certain poli-auto combination headlamp assemblies, p/nos. 11-728, 11-728d, 11-710, 11-419, 11-713, 11-703, 11-704, 11-708p, 11-735, 11-725, 11-726, 11-716 (p&c), 11-721-1, 11-733, 11-729, 11-730, and 11-732, sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles. some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to…
Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning.
Poli-auto will notify owners and offer to repurchase the headlamps at its original purchase price. the recall IS expected to begin during april 2006. owners may contact poli-auto at 305-477-1356.
Vehicle description: sport utility vehicles. some of these vehicles were built with a misrouted positive battery cable assembly that could come in contact with the steering shaft universal joint.
Over time this contact could cause a wear-through of the cable assembly convoluted conduit and cable insulation exposing the wire core and resulting in intermittent electrical shorting. this could result in erratic movement of the voltage gage, total battery discharge in a few hours, or the cable insulation and conduct could ignite if enough current IS discharged at the point of contact, resulting in an underhood fire.
Dealers will inspect the positive battery cable for proper routing and re-route the cable in necessary. the cable will also be inspected for wear of the conduit and cable insulation, and will be replaced if necessary. owner notification began april 23, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact GMC at 1-800-462-8782.
Having low speed (under 8MPH) ABS activation regardless of weather/road conditions. Basically the same issue as nhtsa campaign ID number : 05v379000 but apparently my vin IS not covered, I live in illinois. *tr
Brakes completely failed. Traveling 35 mph, I had to brake suddenly and the pedal sunk to the floor. Had minor resistance, then just completely gave way. No brakes! Was able to avoid an incident by veering into the oncoming lane that was luckily vacant. Turned onto a side street to safely roll to a stop. too scared to drive it the remaining 1.5 miles home, I have it towed to a shop. Advised that all brake lines need to be replaced, this IS a common problem with GMC that he has seen a dozen times. The brake lines corrode, and eventually burst. absurd! To think this could of happened on a family road trip at 65mph... I will buying a vehicle outside of GMC and their umbrella of poorly made vehicles- asap!
The brake lines have rusted and at least 1 has ruptured leaving vehicle without any brakes. brake petal goes directly to the floor and no brake fluid was found in the master cylinder reservoir. I have read that many other similar vehicles have had the same issue.
Tires were purchased sept. 25, 2009 and now have extensive weather cracking. Costco refused to replace the tires when I reported the quality defect in august, 2014, just 59 months after purchase. I have appealed that decision and expect to find out tomorrow if they will make good on the defective tires. They claim that although there IS weather cracking that the tires are safe. I doubt they would use cracked tires like that on the vehicle carrying their own family. *tr
While sitting at a traffic light the brake pedal went to the floor and my truck rolled into the intersection. I was able to stop it after I was halfway in the intersection. I found out that the rear brake line above the fuel tank rotted away. I also had to have both steel lines to the rear wheels and the two steel line to the front replaced. *tr
The antilock braking system activates most every time the brakes are applied, especially if the brakes are applied while the wheels are turned. This causes extended braking distances. *tr
I was driving on route 287 north, in morristown, nj when the car in front of me stopped short and I needed to apply my brakes. when I used my brake pedal, the pedal went all the way down to the floor and I could not stop. I was able to avoid the vehicle in front of me, and I swerved to avoid other cars. I rolled to a stop on the grass shoulder of the highway and found a puddle of brake fluid under the car. after inspection of the brakes done by a certified gm mechanic, he found that all of the brake lines in the car burst open due to heavy corrosion leading to the complete failure of the system. his recommendation was to replace all brake lines in the vehicle as none of them were able to be salvaged. *tr
My brake line ruptured on route 287 in new jersey when I needed to brake behind a stopping vehicle in front of me. my foot went down to the floor and I had no stopping power. gm inspected the vehicle and stated it had multiple flaws in the brake system and needed to be completely replaced. *tr
Pulled out of a parking lot,and drove down a street. As I approached a stop sign and started to slow down the brake pedal went to the floor, and I went through an intersection avoiding cars and then slamming into a curb to try to stop this big SUV with no brake. I had it towed to the closest repair shop ,and then I was informed that not just the one brake line rusted out,but all were rusting out and could break any day now. Since day one this SUV was serviced at a GMC dealer, and not even 7 days just went by it was at the dealer for service and not once did anyone mention the rusted brake lines. This SUV was at the dealer at least 3 to 4 times a year and they never mention the problems. *tr
Front end squeaks real bad when turned sharp. *tr
Gas guage not working on 2001 yukon denali. Tank was filled up & the fuel gauge read @ 'e'. The low fuel light came on & the sound came on. It has occured all the time now & then it re-reads the correct amt of fuel in the tank. *Tr
The anti-lock brakes engages at low speeds every time I stop. this could cause front end collision because the vehicle does not completely stop when braking and I do not have control. gm would not fix the issue on my vehicle due to high mileage even though mileage was not a factor. other yukon vehicles were included in the recall but my vin for some reason was not included. *Tr
2001Gmc yukon denali - ABS brakes engage at parking lot speeds increasing stopping distances at slow speeds. there appears to be a recall for this (66163) and nhtsa recall campaign (o5v-379000) for 2002+ cars but not 2001. I believe that 2001 was the model year changeover where some 2001s were old body style and some new. mine IS the newer style. *tr
ABS comes on at 5 mph until full stop. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 GMC yukon denali. the vehicle was parked for several days in an uncovered driveway in the rain. when the contact opened the door of the vehicle, he noticed that water penetrated the passenger compartment. the carpet, seats, and seat belts were damaged with mildew. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that there was no recall available. he was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. the dealer estimated the cost of the diagnosis to be approximately $165 to be paid by the contact. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 78,000.
Continuous braking problems. I understand normal wear and tear, however I have had to replace my front rotors, calipers, brakes, emergency brake system on several occasions. for the last 5 months my ABS & emergency brake lights come on and off during driving. I have had a GMC dealership (folsom GMC) and les schwab perform diagnostic checks to only tell me that I need to replace brake pads and calipers again due to wear. they have been unable to detect why the two lights come on. last night on my way home the two lights came on again, this time I noticed a loud motor running, even when my vehicle was turned off the motor noise continued. once I pulled the ABS fuse out of the control box the motor stopped. I am taking the vehicle into have it serviced again. I would like to have your company perform an investigation on the antilocking system and brake system on these vehicles. in my research online I found others denali owners with the same vehicle brake/antilock system failures. a few of the complaints I found are at "www.allworldauto.com" and "www.lemonauto.com". thank you for your time. *tr
2001 yukon denali- ABS fails at slow speeds 2001 yukon denali- catalytic converter failure. *tr
Was driving on I-10 back to phoenix had past marana outside of tucson when my SUV started to tremble a little bit wondering what that was but before I can pull over the tire blew out and lost control for a second but was able to control it and get pull off to the right of the freeway. When I got off to check there was not much tire and it had made damage to the right side of the SUV now I have to take it to the insurance to estimate the damages and cost to repair it. *tr
Fuel tank makes a popping noise within 5 minutes of turning engine off. Fuel tank cap replaced. *tr
I have a 2001 GMC yukon slt, and I have had an ABS problem, although there was not one specific instance, which caused it. I heard a constant running sound, even when the vehicle was not running. Narrowed it down to the ABS, and had to pull the fuse to stop it. Now, my brake & ABS lights constantly illuminated. It had me at a disadvantage. I am a father of 2, and we often transport our parents. Generally do most traveling in the yukon, but now apprehensive about the idea of it. Do not want to subject the family to such. I deploy a lot, and don't want my wife to drive it in this condition. I tried to take it to the GMC dealers awhile back. The dealers will not fix it, just replaced them. Which was around a grand to do. Since there was no recall outside the salt belt states they won't help us. I found someone in the area with the same problem. I researched it online, and it appeared to be an common safety problem. There was a recall, but it did not apply here in fort walton beach, florida. In which were are on the coast subject to salt waters of the gulf coast. I noticed it on recall nhtsa campaign ID # 05v379000. It affected salt belt states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia only.... Please extend recall area for other locations that have the same problem. Maybe coastal areas, etc. *Ak
While driving down highway 59 northbound before the louise, tx exit, the tread separated from my back driver side tire causing damage to my fender area and back driver side door. my firestone steeltex at lt245/75r16 tire was not flat, the tread just came off. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated the fuel gauge reads empty when tank IS full or half full intermittently. although the dealership and manufacturer were alerted no repairs have been made.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55mph the vehicle lost speed without warning. the first and second gears operated at decreased speeds and the reverse gear did not activate. upon inspection the dealership determined the transmission needed to be replaced, but the replacement has not been completed.
I have a yukon denali 2001. I had an accident. The antilock brakes activate at low speeds. I saw there IS an investigation # peo5-020 underway since a recall was in effect in canada. The accident was minor and involved no injurty. It was due to increased stopping distance whern approaching my garage, I had the vehicle reaired and am bringing it in to GMC to fix the problem.
Parking brake failure: results from one time driving off with the parking brake on or simply towing a trailer and parking it on a hill and setting the parking brake. the parking brake on these 1999-2002 GMC trucks and suvs are a dangerous. they gives no indication that the parking brake IS working because the pedal feels the same, no resistance, when working and when not. our friends own a 2002 denali and we were at a boat ramp, he backed the denali with the boat on the trailer on the boat ramp, parked it and loaded the boat. climbed back in to launch it and the truck's transmission had torque locked because the parking brake failed. we had to get our car to tow him slightly forward to get the transmission to release. if the parking pin in the transmission failed due to over exersion from lack of a function parking brake, it could cause serious injury and major property damage. when we tried to fix our parking brake in our denali, we discovered that we would have to replace the hub as well because the pads had destroyed the inside of the hub to the point that it would not work even if the pads were replaced. this IS the case in everyone that we know who owns a gm truck.*ak
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Odi's review of complaint data received since the close of ea04-011 revealed no indication that the investigation should be re-opened.more details can be found in the federal register notice enclosed in the dp05-009 public file.odi reserves the right to reopen the investigation in the future should conditions warrant.
In a letter dated august 29, 2005, gm notified odi that it was recalling certain model year 1999 through 2002 c/k pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles to correct a problem with anti-lock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor corrosion that may result in unwanted ABS activation and extended stopping distances during low-speed braking (recall 05v-379).gm's recall covers approximately 804,000 vehicles currently registered in the following 14 salt-belt states:connecticut, illinois, indiana, massachusetts, maine, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, and west virginia.the recall procedure will involve removing the sensor, cleaning the mounting surface, applying a rust inhibitor (zinc-x) to the surface, and reinstalling the sensor.if necessary, the sensor will be replaced. The population and failure report data given in this resume are for the full region that has been considered by odi as the salt-belt.that includes delaware, iowa, maryland, minnesota, missouri, wisconsin and the district of columbia in addition to the 14 states included in 05v-379.the states covered by gm's recall have the highest incident rates for the subject condition, accounting for 91% of the incidents, but only 24% of subject vehicle sales in the united states.odi's analysis determined that 840 of the complaints, 244 of the crashes, and 16 of the injuries identified in this investigation occurred in those states.the resulting incident and crash rates are 96.2 and 28.0 per 100,000 vehicles respectively (note:rates are based on vehicle sales, not registered vehicles). The corresponding numbers in the excluded portions of the salt-belt are 399,000 vehicles, 81 incidents (20.3 per 100,000 vehicles), 3 crashes, and no injuries.the statistics in the remaining 30 states are 2,406,000 vehicles, 168 incidents (7.0 per 100,000 vehicles), 31 crashes, and one injury.gm and odi are continuing to monitor the problem experience in states that are not included in the recall.gm will provide odi with updated complaint, field report, and warranty data in november 2005.odi and gm will review that data and assess the appropriateness of the current scope of the recall at that time.
The automatic locking retractor (alr) IS a feature incorporated in the subject vehicle for locking the webbing to properly secure a child safety seat into a vehicle.this pe was opened based on a gm technical service bulletin stating that with certain child safety seats the webbing may not remain locked.there are no complaints in the odi database and only two complaints to gm.gm's instructions state for the final step in using the webbing lock feature to push and pull the child restraint to be sure it IS secure. If the alr IS not locked, the user would be fully aware of this condition prior to completing proper installation of the child safety seat in this vehicle.this investigation did not uncover any complaints of the alr inadvertently unlocking while the vehicle IS in motion.the emergency locking retractor (elr) feature remains available to lock the retractor in a crash.a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see attached summary for additional information.
