3 recalls name the 2001 Honda Passport. Newest first.
Isuzu IS recalling certain model year 1998-2002 isuzu rodeo and model year 2002 isuzu axiom vehicles, and honda IS recalling certain 1998-2002 honda passport vehicles, that were originally sold, or are currently registered, in the states of maine, new hampshire, vermont, massachusetts, rhode island, connecticut, new york, new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware…
Excessive corrosion may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame, which can affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash.
Dealers will inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area. for vehicles in which little or no corrosion IS found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. for vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. in the rare event the corrosion IS so severe that the reinforcement bracket remedy would not be appropriate, a repurchase offer will be extended to the vehicle's owner. all inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are 10 years old or less. for vehicles older than 10 years, isuzu will offer a free remedy, but only if the vehicle IS presented to an isuzu service facility, or honda dealer (as applicable), dealer within 12 months of when owner notifications were issued. the safety recall began on december 10, 2010. isuzu owners may contact isuzu at 1-800-255-6727. honda owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.
On certain sport utility vehicles, the passenger-side air bag inflator modules were manufactured and shipped without a necessary component known as a check valve pin.
In the event of a crash, the air bag will not inflate properly or sufficiently resulting in an increased risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag. owner notification began august 7, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.
Vehicle description: certain sport utility vehicles were built with the inflators in the passenger side air bag modules having the wrong amount of generant.
In the event of a crash that would trigger a passenger air bag deployment, too much generant can cause the inflator module to explode. if the air bag module explodes, metal and plastic debris could cause severe injury to vehicle occupants.
Dealers will replace the passenger side air bag unit.

It's a recall on my honda passport 2001 10v436000-bracket corrodes and detaches pearson honda said they didn't see a recall in there system they have 3 recalls
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. The contact called on behalf of the driver. While driving at an unknown speed, the driver noticed that the rear of the vehicle was swaying. The driver coasted over to the side of the road and noticed that the rear suspension bracket was detached and the subframe was corroded through. The driver was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called baron honda at (631) 714-2094, 17 medford ave, patchogue, ny 11772) where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I was changing the tires and noticed a huge whole on the bottom frame extreme corrosion... Afraid to drive
Got into vehicle and started it up. put into reverse and the engine revved up and shot backwards very fast. while applying pressure to the brake it had no effect until slamming into the house that was across the street.
All rusty inreparable frame
Frame rusted out and fuel tank mounting bracket rusted through.
My husband and I bought this vehicle a few days ago. today he took it in to get a tune up and oil change. when the mechanic had the car lifted he recognized a significant amount of cracks/rust frame. the plastic gas tank IS about to fall out of the metal casing that surrounds it, it IS almost completely ate away. there IS also a frame crack due to rust on the passenger rear frame behind the rear tire. the mechanic advised that we not continue to drive this car until the issue has been resolved due to our safety. we found some information on a recall pertaining to the same problems that were occurring on our vehicle: http://news.honda.com/newsandviews/article.aspx?id=5798-en when we searched our vin number no recalls showed up, even though the car was bought, sold, and driven in what honda refers to as a "salt belt" state. not sure why my vehicle was not included in the recall as it IS having the same safety issues as the vehicles that were recalled are having. please advise why our vehicle was not included in this recall when it clearly has the same issues as the vehicles that were. thanks for you time.
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. When the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an oil change, the technician noted that the entire frame underneath the vehicle was rusted. The technician stated that the failure, if not remedied, would cause the fuel tank to detach from the vehicle. The contact stated that the service engine light was illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000. The vin was not provided.
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. While the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the technician stated that the frame had severe corrosion damage. The technician stated that due to the severity of the corrosion, the vehicle was not safe to drive until the frame was replaced. The contact mentioned that the vehicle had been previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 10v436000 (suspension); however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
On june 18, 2015, while on the brake and stopping behind a vehicle at an intersection (moving at a crawl speed, less than 0.5 mph), my honda passport lunged forward hitting the car in front of me. the car was contained the driver and a passenger. believing at that time my brakes just failed (i couldn't grasp how acceleration and forward movement could occur when I was firmly on my brakes), I had my brake booster and master cylinder replaced. on june 29, 2015 in a parking space, while I was at a crawl speed (less than 0.5 mph) and on the brakes, the vehicle lunged forward again, going to the next parking space and hitting a parked car. the vehicle engine surged as though I was on the accelerator, and my foot was only on the brake. thank goodness nobody was in the parked vehicle, nobody was between the two vehicles, and only body damage resulted from this dangerous situation.
The frame IS completely rusted out and un drivable. *tr
While driving at highway speeds the engine died, lost power steering and power brakes (lost vacuum to booster.) the #1 intake lifter button popped out and the cam lobe hammered the lifter and valve into the #1 cylinder causing catastrophic engine failure. engine oil was in mid range and had ~2000k on engine oil change. no fluid mixing occurred prior to or after the incident. when valve was pushed into the cylinder it was bent, the locking up of the cam on the passenger side of the engine caused the water pump to be broken bending the idler pulley down dumping antifreeze out onto the road. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
A few years back my trailing linkage on both sides of vehicle rusted away from frame. The drivers side was first and I was traveling at 50 mph. Hit pot hole and drivers side linkage broke off. Causing me to fish tail in traffic and almost crash. now I have two cracks in my frame and the rear cross member IS rusted through. I have also had the fuel tank support fixed and welded back onto my truck. This will cost me thousands to fix to hopefully make it a drivable vehicle again. Or. American honda can buyout these vehicles from these owners. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. The contact stated that while driving downhill at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began to pull violently in one direction. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the entire frame was completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign ID number: 10v436000 (suspension) in 2012, which failed to prevent the frame rust problem. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The fuel tank shield for my 2001 honda passport IS completely rusted out. Upon researching the situation I have encountered quite a few people having this same problem. I am scared to even drive the vehicle as this shield IS "barely" holding the tank up and could fail at any moment thus dropping the tank. *tr
Fuel tank dropped down, checked and it was rusted out and broke free from frame which also rusted out. the entire frame IS rusted out, I have never seen a frame rust completely out like this ! Honda told me there was a recall and my wife took it to a dealer and they said the problem that was in the recall didn't affect the area they will have to replace. The dealer said they couldn't fix the problem because the whole frame was rusted out and the vehicle was unsafe. Now what ? I guess I should sell all my hondas and buy american motors. *tr
The driver's side linkage that connects the rear axle to the frame separated completely due to corrosion. I took it to honda for the recall, which service bulletin 10-079 states honda will pay for vehicles less than 10 years old at the time of the recall (sept 2010)), and they determined the damage was so bad that they would not attempt to fix the vehicle. I feel I should be reimbursed for my vehicle since the defect has caused such extensive damage as to render the vehicle unsafe. *tr
Rear trailing arm fell off of the frame due to major corrosion. We had it towed to dealership for recall #10v-436. Service dept stated the entire frame was rusted through therefore they had nothing to attach the recall bracket to. This recall should be for the entire frame not just the bracket. It broke while backing out of our driveway. Thankfully we weren't doing 70 on the highway. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. the contact stated that the rear suspension axle and frame were severely corroded and there were holes in the frame. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign I.D. Number: 10v436000 (suspension:rear) and took the vehicle to the dealer for recall repairs. The dealer advised the contact that the frame was so corroded, that it was beyond repair. The dealer spoke with the manufacturer regarding the frame and the manufacturer advised the dealer to only to repair what was stated in the recall. the dealer replaced the lower link front bracket on the rear suspension but not the frame. The contact then took the vehicle to a second mechanic for a second opinion and was advised that the frame could possibly crack and collapse if the contact drove over a road bump. the failure mileage was 119,900. updated 01/04/12 *bf the consumer sold the vehicle to an auction. This model 2001 honda passport has a history of frame rust. There was one recall 2010 but it did not address tank shield rust - only rear axle parts. the passport has 72373 miles and the honda dealer wants to charge for a report requested by honda motors. ****at this point I do not know if the gas tank IS going to fall out.**** *tr
My vehicle has had a recall and they told me it was too far gone and took it because of being unsafe to drive. they gave me a rental car and took it back before this was resolved. the dealership gave me my "unsafe" car back because I couldn't be left without a car. I am a senior citizen with a handicap. All I wanted was to have my car replaced with a comparable car, instead they want to give me a settlement check and tried to sell me a new car. I cannot afford a new vehicle or pay more for a vehicle than mine IS worth. I am having a difficult time finding a replacement at the same price. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2001 honda passport. the contact noticed shortly after purchasing the vehicle that the frame was completely corroded. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign I.D. Number 10v436000 (suspension:rear) and was offered a buy back from the manufacturer but the contact declined. the contact asked the manufacturer to repair the vehicle but the manufacturer did respond, but refused because of the cost. The vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 141,000. updated 11/29/11 *cn updated 12/07/11
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On April 10, 2018, NHTSA received a petition from Mr. Kevin Byrne (the Petitioner) requesting that the Agency ?undertake a defects investigation? of ?rust-related detachment of Isuzu Rodeo fuel tanks? (NHTSA ID 11091788). The Petitioner experienced a partial fuel tank detachment in his model year (MY) 2004 Isuzu Rodeo in July 2017. On May 23, 2018, ODI opened DP18-001 to evaluate the Petitioner?s request for a defect investigation. ODI sent information request letters to Isuzu and Honda requesting production, design history and field data related to fuel tank retention failures in MY 2001-2004 Isuzu Rodeo, MY 2002-2004 Isuzu Axiom and MY 2001-2002 Honda Passport vehicles equipped with the same fuel tank shield part number as the Petitioner?s vehicle (the ?subject vehicles?). ODI notes that Isuzu manufactured the subject Passport vehicles for Honda. Isuzu implemented a change to the tank shield corrosion protection system as a running change in early MY 2002 production. Isuzu and Honda sold approximately 172,000 subject vehicles in the United States. Fifty-eight (58) percent of the subject vehicles were produced prior to the shield change (99,000) and 42 percent after the change (73,000).ODI?s analysis of field data identified 19 incidents of partial fuel tank detachments in the subject vehicles. The incidents all occurred in states with high road salt usage in winter months (Salt States) and involved older vehicles beyond 10-years in service. On average, the failures occurred in the vehicle?s 13th year-in-service. Evidence of severe general corrosion in multiple undercarriage components was also noted in 13 of the 19 vehicles that experienced partial fuel tank detachments. None of the incidents resulted in fuel leakage or fire. Aside from the petitioner?s vehicle, ODI has not identified any other incidents of complete or partial fuel tank detachment in the MY 2002-2004 subject vehicles equipped with the modified retention shield. In addition, ODI reviewed 24 NHTSA complaints alleging corrosion concerns with the fuel tank retention system in the subject vehicles that did not result in fuel tank detachment. Twenty-three (23) of these complaints involve subject vehicles built prior to the shield change. Like the vehicles reporting fuel tank detachments, these vehicles are also all from Salt States and, in most cases (20 of the 24 complaints), the vehicles also experienced severe corrosion concerns in other undercarriage components. Half (12 of the 24 complaints) of the vehicles show prior accident damage in their service histories.Based on these analyses, ODI has not identified evidence of a defect trend for premature corrosion-related fuel tank detachments in the MY 2004 Isuzu Rodeo or similarly equipped vehicles. The damage that may result in tank retention concerns appears to occur progressively over many years with ample opportunity for detection and repair. Furthermore, ODI has not identified any crashes, fires, injuries, or fuel leaks associated with fuel tank retention failures in a population of vehicles that currently range from 16 to 19 years old.Accordingly, the Agency is denying the petition.A summary of ODI?s analysis of this petition will be published in the Federal Register and is also available in the investigative file for this action. The NHTSA consumer complaints counted in the closing resume for DP18-001 can be reviewed at www.nhtsa.gov under the following ODI identification numbers (VOQs in parentheses denote duplicate records): Allegations of fuel tank retention failure: 11084098 (11091788), 10532845, 10486109. Allegations of fuel tank retention component corrosion: 11138931, 10992150, 10845523,
On September 22, 2010, Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America, Inc (Isuzu) submitted a Defect Information Report (NHTSA Recall 10V-436) to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affecting approximately 120,000 model year (MY) 1998-2002 Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport vehicles and MY 2002 Isuzu Axiom vehicles originally sold, or currently operated, in the following states:Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin. All vehicle owners will receive the recall notification.Vehicles 10 years of age or younger will be provided with a free remedy. For vehicles older than 10 years, Isuzu will offer a free remedy provided the vehicle is presented to an Isuzu service facility or a Honda dealer (as applicable) no later than twelve (12) months after the date of mailing of the notification letter to the owner. The report describes a condition where vehicles operated in states using certain road deicing materials may exhibit excessive corrosion which may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame.According to Isuzu a detached lower link may affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data and found that 114 of the 115 (99%) alleged complete lower link separations from the frame occurred in vehicles originally sold or operated in a state covered by the recall. Of these complaints 2 involved alleged crashes and 21 involved alleged loss of control incidents. The alleged crashes and loss of control incidents all occurred in vehicles operated in a state covered by the safety recall.Isuzu's recall instructs dealers to inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area to determine if corrosion is present. For vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the lower link bracket area and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. For vehicles with no visible signs of corrosion, dealers with apply anti-corrosion material to reduce the likelihood of corrosion developing in the future. Based on Isuzu's safety recall, this Engineering Analysis is closed.A copy of the recall may be assessed on NHTSA's website using the reference number above.
During preliminary evaluation pe09-030, isuzu motors america, inc (isuzu) noted two primary differences once the rear suspension lower link separation occurs between the alleged defect (separation of the lower link from the frame) of this investigation and a safety defect involving lower link separation from the rear axle addressed by isuzu in safety recall 00v-058.in the case of the defect condition identified in recall 00v-058, isuzu stated that the attachment bolt could detach fully, causing separation of the lower link from the rear axle possibly creating a loss of vehicle control. Isuzu also stated that this condition occurs early in the service life of the vehicle.in this investigation isuzu noted lower link separation from the frame IS a progressive corrosion issue with prior warning to consumers.isuzu also stated that in the event of a lower link separation from the frame, the vehicle IS still controllable and can be safely stopped. The office of defect investigation (odi) analyzed complaint data provided by isuzu and america honda motor company, inc (honda), as well as vehicle owner questionnaires submitted to odi from consumers.in total, there were 60 unique reports of lower link separations from the frame including 1 alleged crash and 7 loss of vehicle control incidents that may be related to the alleged defect.most of these complaints indicated that there was no warning prior to the link separation.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea09-018) to further assess the scope, frequency and risk to motor vehicle safety of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.
