I took my car to complete Recall NumberPC945, I was told that my car has an issue with the driver side air Bag - Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE - C1163/B1049 and also another issue related to the driver side airbag that is under the steering wheel. I was quoted over $2000 to fix the issue. The recall is to replace the decal over the airbag and I think the issue is bigger than that, the issue is the airbag clock spring/ spiral cable that malfunctions and not only the plastic plate. A quick Google search will show you that this is a known issue that impacts thousands of Xterra owners. Nissan is fraudulently just replacing the plastic Nissan Emblem when the issue is way bigger than that and could cause bodily harm to the driver if the air bag doesn't deploy.

I purchased this 1 owner trade in 4/11/19. As of 5/9/19 I started to experience pronounced issues with losing power around 40 mph . Diagnostics confirmed that it was due to a leak in the cooling coil which resulted in coolant in my transmission fluid which damage the transmission. I have filed a claim under the class action required extended warranty. as I was unaware of this issue and didn't know what was happening and honestly afraid to find out since I still owe 5000 dollars on the car I put off getting the diagnostics. The final straw came when I was merging onto the highway and lost power trying to merge into fast traffic. I finally called a local repair shop for diagnostics on 5/31/19 and took the first available appointment on 6/4/19. I was told there may be an extended warranty and to call the dealership. The dealership confirmed the diagnosis the next day 6/5/19 and nissan IS reviewing my claim. I am praying they won't deny it because the diagnostics were completed a couple business day after the extension expired on 5/31/19.

Purchased this vehicle for my wife, while she was driving down the freeway in rush-hour in august in phoenix, the vehicle started smoking and lost all power to the transmission, I noticed the transmission cooler had failed and sprayed fluid all over the engine,-this all happened with zero warning and no service indicator lights were activated. I towed the vehicle to my house and inspected further, called the dealership and they said at 120K I no longer qualify for a warranty covered repair even though the service department IS very much aware of this problem. I'm now facing a repair by myself or pay a mechanic to fix an obvious design flaw.

Air bag sensor light starts blinking after engine startup and continues to blink until engine IS turned off. sent email to nissan in dec 2013 regarding this issue and they indicated "a review of our system indicates that the above-referenced vehicle IS not currently involved in any recalls or service campaigns." I find it hard to believe this IS not a nissan issue when there have been air bag sensor recalls in 2005, 2006, 2007 ,2008 ,2009, and 2010. *tr

Air bag deployment 23 june 2011 location: pleasant valley trail, panamint mountains, death valley national park, ca time: approximately 6 pm I was driving on a popular 4X4 trail on the western edge of death valley national park on the evening of 23 june 2011. I was alone and crawling down a steep decline in 4 wheel drive, low range, in 1ST gear. I made a transition from one set of deep ruts to another. The car rocked from the driver's side to the passenger side and back. The motion was abrupt, but not violent in any way, and the same motion that any other vehicle that travels on this popular trail would face. on completion of the rocking motion the side curtain airbags deployed. at the time of deployment my face was against the window checking my side clearance on the road. My elbow was resting on the window sill, and I was steering with one hand at the 9 o'clock position and the other at the 5 o'clock position. on deployment my face was struck on the left front and side, leaving me with facial pain, bruising, a bloody nose, and ringing ears. The arm resting on the window sill was forced down and forward, levering my shoulder up and forward. I was dazed and disoriented for a few minutes. The seatbelt pre-tensioner fired, pulling the belt tight enough around my pelvis to leave bruises and pain. I was very lucky that the incident occurred while I was in first gear, low range. the vehicle stopped when I pulled my foot from the accelerator, if I had been in 4 wheel high range the vehicle would have likely continued downhill and gone over the embankment and down a 400' 60 degree slope. this IS a significant product design error and could have resulted in far greater injuries or death. The motion that set off the deployment was one that I have had on hundreds of occasions with other vehicles in my more than 30 years of off road driving experience. it occurred on a popular trail used by thousands of vehicles each year. *tr

Premature clutch failure in 2ND generation nissan xterra. clutch burnt out at under 5000 miles without warning while driving in snow in 4WD lo. I have 20 years manual driving experience, and have never burned out a clutch. dealership refused to pay for it because it IS a wear item. many others have had same problem - some with transmission disengaging without any notice which could be very dangerous on a highway. many have described clutch as "exploded" or "totally shredded" when taken apart. we believe this IS because nissan dumped the 350 z clutch, which IS made for a lightweight sports car, into a heavy and powerful 4WD. this clutch IS underpowered for the 265 hp xterra. nissan refuses to acknowledge this problem, yet it continues to happen. more info and details of the frequency of this failure can be found at edmunds.com under the nissan xterra clutch problem post. nissan has been totally inconsistent in its partial, complete, or lack of reimbursed for this problem. *Tr

We purchased a new 2009 nissan xterra on june 5, 2009. While driving the vehicle, the following dashboard warning lights come on for no known reason: brake, ABS, slip, tire sensor & vdc. Odometer fails to operate, mileage needle returns to the start position and does not show speed, and fails to register miles covered when the odometer fails. Cruise control fails to operate. The vehicle has been brought to the service department of the dealership on 5 different occasions. The vehicle was brought in for electronic failure with the following odometer readings and dates: 849 on 6/22/2009, 1374 on 7/7/2009, 4082 on 8/10/2009, 8123 on 11/9/2009 and 8247 on 11/24/2009. The following repairs were made: replaced ABS actuator, replaced odometer, replaced electrical harness and replaced electronic computer module. On the last occasion, the vehicle was brought in with dashboard warning lights on. Service department at the dealership IS unable to identify or fix the problem and instructed us to pick up the vehicle without providing any service or repair. The warning lights and failure of operating systems make this vehicle unsafe to operate. The warning lights are an indication of the failure of brakes & tire sensors. This vehicle IS not safe to drive when the electronics fail. *Tr

On February 29, 2012 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received a letter petitioning the agency to conduct a defect investigation into MY 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra vehicles [the subject vehicles] for automatic transmission failures related to failed transmission coolers.NHTSA conducted a comprehensive review of data related to this subject. Our report, documenting this review, is available in the document file for this defect petition. It will also be published in the Federal Register. Of the 2,505 referenced complaints, 638 relate to a potential hazard (unable to maintain speed, no motive power, engine stall) and 1,867 concern customer satisfaction issues including, but not limited to, repair cost, vehicle shudder and shake, and engine overheating.Taking into account the allocation of agency resources and priorities and the likelihood that additional investigation would result in a finding that an unreasonable risk to highway safety exists, we conclude that further investigation is not warranted and deny the petition.ODI Complaint ID numbers are referenced on the next page.

- 10192727SERVICE INFORMATION The purpose of this bulletin is to give Nissan dealers guidelines to help determine if windshield breakage is covered under warranty or is the customer?s responsibility. Nissan North America (NNA) is not responsible for damage to glass that is a result of objects striking or scratching the glass. However, NNA is responsible for manufacturing issues such as distorted glass and cracks that are due to improper installation or damage to the glass during vehicle assembly. NNA typically does not find any type of cracks in the windshield due to stress after the dealership PDI. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192677SERVICE INFORMATION Windshield "foreign material" that is on the surface of the glass in some cases can be cleaned off with a very particular type and grade of steel wool. * Most any foreign material on the surface of the Windshield can be cleaned off by using #0000 super fine steel wool. >The #0000 grade super fine steel wool can be found in most hardware stores. Please see this bulletin for further details.
- 10192638SERVICE INFORMATION This bulletin has compiled Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) and Low Tire Pressure Warning System (LTPWS) information for: - Basic diagnosing of TPMS/LTPWS systems - Radio frequency interference causing a "No Data" (C1708, C1709, C1710, C1711) condition - Sensor leaks - Moving TPMS/LTPWS wheel assemblies from one vehicle to another and TPMS/LTPWS sensor registration - Air pressure changes with altitude and ambient temperatures - Aftermarket tire sealers - Aftermarket wheels - Inflating/deflating tires with TPMS/LTPWS sensors See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192615SERVICE INFORMATION The information in this bulletin is provided to help ensure correct diagnosis and repair of fluid leaks. All fluid leaks, when properly diagnosed, should be repaired (whether under warranty or customer pay) to ensure proper vehicle operation. However, certain normal operating conditions can be misdiagnosed as a leak requiring repair. Unnecessary repair or replacement of parts in connection with incorrectly diagnosed "leaks" can negatively impact customer satisfaction, be time consuming and costly, and if not performed correctly can lead to future repairs. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192597SERVICE INFORMATION When servicing run flat tires or low profile tires: - Special equipment and procedures are required to avoid damage. - Specifically, Tire Pressure Monitor transmitters (TPMS sensors) can be damaged when improperly dismounting and mounting tires. - TPMS sensors becoming damaged during mounting or dismounting tires are not covered under warranty. - To avoid such damage, ensure that the tire changer being used and the operator of the tire changer is capable of servicing run flat and low profile tires. - Operator?s manuals for such tire changers must be followed. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192591SERVICE INFORMATION After ECM reprogramming, the Calibration Verification Number (CVN) needs to be automatically calculated prior to State emissions testing (also known as Inspection Maintainence, I/M, or SMOG testing depending upon location). Allowing the vehicle to idle for 22 minutes will allow for faster CVN calculation. It is recommended that customers utilize this method if the vehicle needs to be tested for emissions soon after ECM reprogramming. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192532SERVICE INFORMATION NOTE - Failure to follow the procedures in this bulletin may result in the denial of a warranty claim. In an effort to protect the paint finish, Paint Guard Film (PGF) is applied on many new Nissan vehicles. Paint Guard Film is a temporary white plastic protective film that is applied by the factory to the horizontal painted surfaces of the vehicle. The PGF protects the paint finish during vehicle handling, transportation and storage from harmful elements such as acid rain, iron particles, bird droppings, tree sap and other environmental contaminants. NOTE - Paint Guard Film CANNOT remain on the vehicle for more than six months after the vehicle's manufacture date. PGF must be removed at the end of six months. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192524SERVICE INFORMATION When diagnosing possible power steering gear (rack and pinion steering rack, or steering rack) leak issues, it may appear the steering rack is leaking when actually, it?s not. - 10192513SERVICE INFORMATION Changes or modifications to the front seat assembly trim materials may affect the proper operation of the Front Seat-Mounted Side-Impact Supplemental Air Bags and Passenger Occupant Classification Sensor and could result in serious personal injury or death. Nissan STRONGLY RECOMMENDS AGAINST making any change to seat trim materials from the factory equipped condition. This specifically applies to replacing the seat trim with non-factory materials; adding leather/cloth seat covers, seat pads, or seat storage pouches, etc. around or over the seat back and the passenger seat cushion. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192508SERVICE INFORMATION DTC B2190 (NATS ANTENNA AMP) can be stored for the following reasons: 1. Something other than an Intelligent Key is inserted into the Key-Slot. 2. An Intelligent Key issue. 3. A wiring issue between the Key-Slot and the BCM. 4. A Key-Slot issue. If DTC B2190 is stored due to 1 or 2 above, it will not erase, or go to "PAST", until a known good registered Intelligent Key is inserted into the Key-Slot. For DTC B2190 diagnosis; first perform the Service Manual DTC Confirmation Procedure. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192506IF YOU CONFIRM: Squeal/Squeak noise from the front brakes: While moving forward or reverse, with very light brake application (pedal pressure), after the vehicle has been sitting, typically overnight ("cold" brakes), at speeds less than 10 MPH, while traveling straight or turning. ACTION: Replace the hardware on both front brake calipers with the kit listed in the Parts Information in this bulletin. See this bulletin for further detail.
- 10192474SERVICE INFORMATION If a customer describes lack of power or poor acceleration, perform the following checks before attempting any repair: * Check for stored DTCs. * Check if the driver is resting their left foot on the brake pedal while accelerating. Advise the customer not to rest their foot on the brake while accelerating. * Use CONSULT-III plus in Engine Data Monitor to check operation of the brake lamp circuit signal. Monitor the brake switch during the incident; it should be "OFF". Please see this bulletn for further details.
- 10192394SERVICE INFORMATION Related to communication codes U1000, U1001, U1002, U1010: - Always diagnose the communication codes first. - When a module reports a U1000 code, it is typically operating normally; however, there is a communication error external to that module on the CAN network. - U1000 indicates an error. V-CAN diagram or CAN Diag Support Monitor provides data to determine the location of the error. See this bulletin for more information.
- 10192326SERVICE INFORMATION The specifications for the intake and exhaust valves and valve lifter service parts have been changed. * The valve stem length of both intake and exhaust valve has been increased (Figure 1) and are a direct replacement for the shorter style valve. * The related valve lifter cup has been shortened (Figure 2) and the point at which the valve lifter contacts the valve stem has been shortened (not shown). These service parts will require that the valve and valve lifter be replaced at the same time. See this bulletin for further details.
- 10192305SERVICE INFORMATION Information necessary to service the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) safely is included in the "RESTRAINTS" section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for each vehicle.
