Risk
Engine oil that drips onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold may result in a fire.
Remedy
The remedy applied under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 did not adequately remove the safety risk. Under the improved remedy, dealers will replace the engines front valve cover and gasket. Vehicles that are covered by recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, or 15V-201 that have not yet received the original remedy will instead receive the improved remedy under the original recall number. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Oldsmobile customer service at 1-800-442-6537 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15757. Note: Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside since the fire risk exists even when the vehicle is unattended.

If the manifold IS hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.
Remedy

Dorman IS recalling 979 steering knuckles, dorman p/nos. 697-902 and 697-903, sold under dorman's "oe solutions<sup>tm</sup>" brand name, and napa p/nos. 7-8502 and 7-8503 which were sold for replacement use on the various vehicles listed above. a potential material or design defect could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area.

Gm IS recalling 207,542 my 1997-2003 buick regal and pontiac grand prix vehicles equipped with a 3.8L supercharged V-6 engine. these vehicles have higher front rocker cover gasket temperatures, creating the potential for earlier degradation of the front rocker cover gasket and eventual oil seepage.

Certain underhood fires may be caused by drops of engine oil, from seepage or spillage, being deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking. if the manifold IS hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the engines front valve cover and front-valve-cover gasket with new parts of an improved design and remove the engines plastic cover and plastic oil-fill-tube extension, along with the 1-3-5 spark plug wire retainers, free of charge. the recall IS expected to begin during may 2016. , free of charge. the recall IS expected to begin during may 2016. until the remedy IS completed, gm strongly recommends that owners observe the following important precautions (1) that owners do not park their vehicle in a garage, car port, or other structure; (2) if owners notice a burning odor, they should have their dealer inspect the vehicle. the dealer will inspect the vehicle without charge; (3) use premium fuel (91 octane or higher) in the vehicle as recommended in the vehicle's owner manual. owners may contact buick at 1-866-608-8080 or pontiac at 1-800-620-7668, or through their website at <a href=http://www.gmownercenter.com>http://www.gmownercenter.com</a> .
Certain delphi fuel pressure regulators, p/nos. Fp10020-11b1, fp10026-11b1, and fp10027-11b1, sold after january 9, 2007, as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles listed above. the universal pressure regulators (upr) were produced without an o'ring and retainer.

Delphi will notify owners and replace the upr free of charge. the recall began on april 23, 2007. owners can contact delphi at 877-411-8770.
On certain passenger, sport utility vehicles and MINI vans, some of these vehicles have a passenger air bag that was manufactured without a check valve pin. an air bag without the check valve pin could produce increased pressure at the onset of the air bag deployment and reduced pressure afterward.

This could increase the severity of injury to a person who was not properly restrained and who was close to the passenger air bag at the time of deployment. it could also reduce the ab8ility of the air bag to protect a restrained front seat passenger.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger air bag. owner notification began december 16, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, pontiac at 1-800-762-2737, oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537, or saturn at 1-800-553-6000, prompt #3.
Vehicle description: passenger, sport utility vehicles and minivans. the passenger air bag inflator modules were built without the correct amount of generant, which produces the gas that fills the air bag. some were built with a double load of generant and some were built without generant.

In the event of a crash that would trigger a passenger air bag deployment, a double load of generant can cause the inflator module to explode. if the air bag module explodes, metal and plastic debris could cause severe injury to vehicle occupant. a module with no generant would not inflate the air bag, and the occupants could receive more severe injuries.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the passenger air bag module. telephone calls were made to owners on january 29, 2001. follow up owner mailing began on april 17, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, pontiac at 1-800-762-2737, or saturn at 1-800-553-6000.

The contact owns a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idle, a burning odor was detected. The contact turned off the vehicle and noticed that there was smoke and then flames coming from underneath the hood. The contact did not sustain any injuries, and no medical attention was received. No police report was filed. The contact waited until the fire went out on its own and placed a cloth on top of the hood. The contact inspected underneath the hood and noticed that antifreeze was spraying outward. The fire had melted the fuses and valve cover; a brown substance was in the coolant; a red substance was spilling out of the manifold, and the timing belt had detached. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact was made aware that there was one unrepaired recall associated with the VIN under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V701000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

I am driving down hwy 311 in houma, la. I went around another vehicle and as my car went into passing gear I hear a noise from under the hood. I stopped and put gas in my car. As I'm driving down savanne road I hear the noise again. As I'm driving the noise gets louder and worse. On june 10, 2020 the car starts getting hot so I pull over and shut the engine off. Smoke starts coming out the hood and water IS all over the ground. Can't find where the water spewed out at or a crack or anything. Fans are constantly not working. this IS the second time this happens. Car wouldn't start. Get it started and immediately went straight home. The bearings are going out in the engine. I bought the car in february 2013 and have had problems since march 2013. Ac goes out. I fix it. It works a week or 2 and stops again. ABS light IS on but a mechanic cannot diagnose the problem. Service engine light stays on no matter what. The pieces on the outside of the doors have fallen off, once while I was driving. I always have trouble starting it. Changed the battery 3 times. the headlights are not bright and the housings for them are horrible. The sunroof leaks into the dome light. The driver side seat belt gets stuck down and I have to fight with it to get it up to buckle it. The whole car should be recalled and on the list of worst cars numbers 1 thru 20 with others after. The contact noticed an issue with the vehicle prior to the o ring leak. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer for an unknown recall repair before the original leak and the dealer replaced the valve cover gasket and valve cover. The dealer and the contact did not agree on everything that was covered under the recall repair. The contact made further repairs on his own before the o ring leak occurred. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was informed that there was no warranty coverage for the recalls. The failure mileage was 189,000.

The coolant and ABS light stays on. It used to be the engine light but since I have gotten that fixed this IS the on-going problem. At least it doesn't affect me passing a smog test now. My biggest issue IS the fuel gauge. It will read full or empty and nothing in between. I used to be able to estimate, by checking my mileage when I was near full but it IS hard to tell now, because it bounces bath and forth at times. My last issue IS heat. It used to work well but now it won't give me heat. The air conditioning system still works great.

Brake fluid pouring out from underneath car. Possibly a rusted brake line. However there was no warning. Narrowly escaped bad wreck and possible deadly crash. My car IS overheating even though it shouldn't be overheating and I just found out my car was in a recall but for some reason even though I am experiencing the same problem as the recalled ones, it's saying my vin isn't in recall which isn't fair since I am dealing with literally the same issue. Last year it started overheating and my husband and I just started car-pooling with his car. A few months ago everything on the car got fixed and the car was fine until about a week or two after then it was overheating and so now I have to run the heat to keep the car from getting too hot. I had a few people looking at it and they cannot explain why it's overheating like that because the coolant fluids are moving and everything but there IS no explanation as to why it IS still getting hot. Someone suggested I look into a recall and now I am but it's saying that my model wasn't affected, which clearly IS affected.

When the contact exited the vehicle, she noticed oil on the ground leaking from the engine. While the vehicle was undergoing a routine oil change, the contact was informed that an oil leak was detected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the valve cover gaskets were leaking, which could cause a fire and render the vehicle unsafe to drive. The contact stated that the valve cover gaskets needed to be replaced, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling) in april of 2016 at ballas buick GMC (5715 central ave, toledo, oh 43615, (567) 202-1198). The contact called ballas buick GMC regarding the recent failure, but they would not assist since the vehicle was previously serviced under the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 249,000. The vin was not available.

A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a yard and destroyed from the flames. The insurance company did not inspect nor diagnose the vehicle to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. Four months later, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 09v116000 (engine and engine cooling) which started mid april 08,2009 and was unable to determine why the manufacturer had not sent the notice before the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Currently, I'm having some electrical problems with my vehicle with the power windows and hazard lights. Also, I'm having an issue with the fuel system this started occurring three months ago and I feel it's not safe, at times with all issues that my car has it can be terrifying to drive but I can't afford to fix these problems or buy a new car. There are a few leaks coming from my car as well I know one leak IS due to the power steering and the other the fuel tank, there might be another leak. Most of the issues I have figured out when my car was parked but some like the electrical problems and fuel issues, I've noticed either turning or driving on the main highway.

I tried to break lightly, in a touch, release, method, but the sensor on the dash stated (no traction), and would lock the breaks, during the light applied pressure on the breaks, causing me to slide a bit. I hit a vehicle in front of me, (speed aprox. 35Mph) causing me to spin into on coming traffic, going west bound. My vehicle was struck in the front, and back, my air bags never deployed. Wanting to report: break problem with my vehicle, and non-deployment of air bags. The car was parked at 38059 judd rd, belleville, mi 48111 when I turned the key over it exploded. I found out that there was a recall on the vehicle motor leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold that could catch on fire. I called gm on the recall. I sent pictures just as they asked me to. They responded to me that they found the incident was not from the recall, however I could take the vehicle to the dealership and get $650.00. How can they determine the recall from pictures? I have over $2200.00 invested into this car that I purchased less then two weeks before the car exploded. I didn't even drive the car one time after brining it home. (Gm) has notified the agency that it will conduct a safety recall (identified by nhtsa recall number 08v-118) to address a defect in approximately 207,542 model year (my) 1997-2003 buick regal GS and pontiac grand prix gtp vehicles equipped with the L67 supercharged version of gm's 3800 series II V6 engine.the recalled regal GS vehicles were built from august 1996 to june 2003 and the grand prix gtp from march 1996 through january 2003.according to gm, oil may escape past the valve cover gasket on the front cylinder bank (cylinders 1-3-5) and deposit onto hot exhaust system components.under certain conditions, it IS possible for this oil to ignite a small pilot flame, which may spread to the adjacent plastic spark plug wire channel, the spark plug wires themselves, the plastic engine cover, and other under hood components.reports indicate this most often occurs on higher-mileage vehicles shortly after the vehicle has been driven and then parked.typically, the fire was discovered within 5 to 15 minutes after the vehicle was parked.during this time window, under hood temperatures may become elevated.such elevated temperatures combined with a lack of airflow through the engine compartment may permit a small pilot flame to propagate and ignite other fuel sources.to correct the safety defect, gm will install an improved design front valve cover gasket and spark plug wire retainer.this remedy will be suppliedfree of charge for all recalled vehicles.until sufficient parts become available to repair all of the affected vehicles, gm strongly recommends that owners observe the following important precautions: (1) they strongly recommend that owners do not park their vehicle in a garage, carport, or other structure; (2) if owners notice a burning odor, they should have their dealer inspect the vehicle - the dealer will inspect the vehicle without charge; and (3) use premium fuel (91 octane or higher) in the vehicle as recommended in the vehicle's owner manual.the action taken by gm IS sufficient to resolve the issues raised by this investigation.the subject fire incident rate on the c-, g-, and h-platform subject vehicles IS low.the agency will continue to monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.see document file for additional information regarding this resume.

On january 29, 2007, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation to investigate alleged non-crash fires originating in the engine compartment in certain model year (my) 1999-2002 pontiac grand prix gtp vehicles equipped with the ?L67? Supercharged version of the general motors (gm) 3800 series II V6 engine.to date, odi IS aware of 121 non-duplicative complaints on the subject vehicles that allege non-crash related fires originating in the engine compartment while driving or after the vehicle IS parked and the ignition switched off. While no subject component has yet been identified, odi analysis of available information indicates that the alleged fire incident rate among the subject vehicles IS significantly higher than gm peer vehicles that use the non-supercharged ?L36? Version of the gm 3800 series II V6 engine.in some cases, the fire incident rate IS twice as high in the subject vehicles and up to as much as an order of magnitude greater than in non-supercharged peer vehicles.for instance, the subject fire incident rate for the supercharged my 2000 pontiac grand prix gtp IS approximately 236 per 100,000 vehicles produced (58 fires / 24,509 subject vehicles or 0.236%) while the fire incident rate for my 2000 pontiac grand prix vehicles equipped with the naturally aspirated ?L36? Engine IS approximately 18 per 100,000 vehicles produced (17 fires / 90,338 vehicles or 0.018%). The manufacturer?s investigation into alleged engine compartment fires on the subject vehicles IS ongoing.accordingly, this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea07-008) to further study the frequency and scope of the alleged defect. Based on the information reviewed in pe07-006, the range of subject vehicles under investigation will be expanded to include all my 1999-2002 buick park avenue, regal, and riviera, oldsmobile lss, and pontiac bonneville and grand prix vehicles that use the same or substantially similar transverse mounted ?L67? Engine.
