Recalls
4 recalls name the 2012 Toyota Venza. Newest first.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2009-2015 Venza vehicles. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) wiring may become damaged with regular use of the driver-side door.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Damaged wires may cause the air bag sensor to become inoperable, preventing the deployment of the side and curtain air bags on the driver side and increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver-side front door wire harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 19, 2021. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 21TB01/21TA01.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing…
Risk and remedy
Risk
A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.
Remedy
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Risk and remedy
Risk
An inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires. An overloaded vehicle can result in a tire failure which may result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or property damage.
Remedy
Southeast Toyota will notify owners and provide a corrected label with instructions concerning its installation. A small group of the affected vehicles will need additonal remedies which are still being developed. The recall began on May 28, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

Risk and remedy
Risk
If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.
Remedy
Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

On Dec. 17, 2023, shortly after 12:00 p.m.,I was driving my Toyota Venza on the highway under normal when the STEERING KNUCKLE suddenly fractured. This unexpected failure caused the vehicle to lose steering control, leading to a serious traffic accident. I inspected that part and found that the STEERIN KNUCKLE had broken abnormally, as the break showed no signs of any impact.

Mfr case #'s 1805171831 & 181490595. Car in your shop 5/23/2018 thru 5/30/2018. If you accelerate quickly taking the engine past 3000 rpm's you start to get a strong rotten egg type smell in the car. We dropped the car off the complaint wasn't written right forcing them to call us to explain. Which I did and gave examples to drive it so it could be duplicated. A few hours later joe calls with they could only get brake smell from the car because it has aftermarket brakes on it. Like I did something wrong when I spent $900 instead of $2000.00 for toyota. Then I was asked what kind of fuel do I use. Now we use fuel from wawa, sunoco, costco, bj's in the last 5 years. The only thing I was told they did was a health report from a code scanner to find out it has no codes in the computer. I have found in google searchs 309,000 hits with the words "toyota rotten egg smell" so I went to pick up the car and asked the service manger on duty if I could quickly duplicate the original complaint as they were unable to. Ran the engine at 4000rpms for around 2 to 3 mins. The car began to smell. The service manager on duty truly seemed to want to help to fix this said she would advise the toyota field service representative when he came in on the 30TH of may. I received a call & was told that the field rep couldnt duplicate the problem and the car IS operated excessively and they refuse to do anything to the car. A car with 268hp and a tachometer with an over 6000rpm which the car has never seen and has never been past 80mph in its life of service. I have a problem believing they drove the car other than cruised around. They blamed the fuel I used and my driving. A car designed to run on 87 octane in their manual above horsepower and engine rpm limits. I had to duplicate the complaint quickly for them which they charged me for a diagnostic. Now a refusal by the mfr. Ridiculous

On a brand new 2012 toyota venza, purchased new with 12 miles on it, in march of 2012, there IS copious amounts of rust on top of the paint on the hood, front bumper, and surrounding side panels, doors, hatch, and back bumper. note, the majority of the rust IS evolving on top of the paint, where no bare metal IS exposed. it can be buffed off, but this only temporarily solves the problem, as the rust continues to grow, even after removal. on the front bumper and hood, there are large rusting spots where small chips exposing metal, less than 1CM (considered to be from gravel) exist. for visual affect, it looks at though someone dipped a large paint brush in orange paint and splattered/speckled it over the entire vehicle. *tr

No incident, just a safety question. I purchased this 2012 venza a few days ago and was surprised to find that the frontal passenger crash test was 2 stars (out of 5). for 2013 it was 4 stars for the same test. I am trying to determine whether this car (vin number) was made before or after toyota made safety modifications that led to the 4 star frontal passenger rating. toyota customer service was not helpful and suggested contacting nhtsa. this IS an important issue for me as I carry my grandchildren in this car and if there IS a safety concern it will have to be returned. thanks for your help. ps - I sent this note yesterday but included the wrong vin. the vin entered above IS now correct. *tr

This IS not a complaint; just a question. I hope that you can point me in the right direction. I purchased this 2012 toyota venza from a dealer who claimed excellent safety ratings. but I see that the 2012 venza passenger frontal crash rating IS only 2 star. I returned to the dealer who told me that my car was made after the safety was improved (it IS listed as 4 star for the 2013 model), but could not support his claim that my car was 4 star rather than 2 star. this IS important to me as I carry my grandchildren and would not accept a 2 star rating. I called toyota customer care to find out if this vin was before or after the safety improvements were made and they could not answer the question, and would not refer me on to someone who could. can you determine if this car has a 2 star or a 4 star frontal passenger side crash rating (or refer me to someone who could find out)? I would greatly appreciate this help - otherwise I will be forced to sell this car. my thanks in advance. *tr

Toyota needs to up their expectations - just because they purchased gm doesn't mean they can lower the standards. *tr
Service bulletins
Technical service bulletins and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about this vehicle. Ask a dealer for the full document by its number.
- 11007455Some 2005 2024 Toyota vehicles that have undergone water intrusion may exhibit a condition in which a musty odor is present. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to remediate the odor and address this condition. The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to provide general guidelines and procedures for odor remediation. This Service Bulletin provides a guide on how to prepare and treat the interior of the vehicle for odor remediation. Refer to the applicable model and model year Repair Manual and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) website for the most up-to-date safety and precautionary guidelines. This Service Bulletin is to provide a general overview and direction for the odor remediation process.
- 11007445The condition known as acid rain is caused by airborne chemicals or particles in the atmosphere, which mix with rainwater, nighttime dew, or high humidity to form acidic compounds. If these contaminants settle and remain on a painted vehicle surface, especially the horizonal areas of the hood, roof, and decklid, significant damage can occur. This damage is the result of actual etching of the paint and appears as pitting or water spots. As acid rain droplets on the vehicle surface evaporate, the concentration strength of the acid increases, causing deeper and more rapid damage. This evaporation and corrosive action also occur more rapidly on dark colored cars as direct sun heat increases. It is the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. In areas known for high frequency and/or concentration of acid rain (see Figure 1), frequent vehicle washing during high heat or humidity periods will minimize the potential for paint damage caused by acid rain. It is further recommended that either reverse osmosis or deionized water be used to prevent water spotting.
- 11007444To prevent brake rotor rust from forming during transportation and storage, wheel film will be used instead of a cardboard type of anti-rust cover. The purpose of the wheel film is to shield the disc brake rotor from weather elements and initial rust before the vehicle is delivered to the customer. Consequently, the film should remain on the wheel for as long as possible.
- 11007443Acid rain results from rainwater or other airborne moisture that become acidic due to industrial chemical impurities in the atmosphere. If these acidic compounds settle on an exposed vehicle, especially the horizontal areas such as the hood, roof, and decklid, significant damage to the painted surfaces can occur. Acid rain damage can typically be identified on vehicles by the presence of stains on the paint surface that resemble hard water spots. Unlike water spots however, acid rain damage cannot be removed by regular washing procedures. Also, because acid rain can etch and soften the paint, normal buffing or polishing repair procedures should not be attempted. This can cause further damage and result in visible depressions in the paint surface. The following are the three major categories of acid rain damage: Minor damage: requires only buffing to repair. Moderate damage: usually requires neutralizing, color sanding, and buffing. Severe damage: extending beyond 1/2 mil of clearcoat on a pearl, metallic, or solid color, requires neutralization, sanding, and repainting. In cases where acid rain damage is minor, neutralization and buffing with a liquid-type paint finessing product may provide an adequate repair. Only specially formulated products outlined in this bulletin should be used for that purpose. Unfortunately, other than minor damage, there is no simple method of determining the actual extent (depth) of acid penetration other than color sanding a representative affected area until there is no visible etching or depressions, followed by measuring the amount of paint removed with either a magnetic or digital-type film thickness gauge. The procedures in this bulletin are intended for use by qualified body/paint technicians and should not be attempted by inexperienced personnel. It is the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. Perform frequent vehicle washing, as often as daily, during high heat and humidity periods to minimize the potential for paint damage due to acid rain exposure. This is especially important in geographical areas known for high frequency and concentration of acid rain and industrial fallout.

- 11005153Toyota vehicles are currently protected with RapgardTM protective film designed to protect the horizontal painted surfaces. This material protects from acid rain, environmental fallout, and rail contamination.
- 11005149Vehicles may occasionally be subjected to contamination by airborne iron particles shed from railroad tracks, train wheels, exposure to heavy machinery facilities, grinding, welding, etc. This type of contamination can be identified by the presence of small, red or brown particles on the paint surface. These particles are often difficult to see on dark color paints but can be easily felt when brushing a hand across horizontal body surfaces such as the hood, roof, or deck lid.

While the quality and durability of paint on Toyota vehicles is continuously being improved, it remains the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. To read, While the quality and durability of paint on Toyota vehicles is continuously being improved, it remains the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to first sale. Perform frequent vehicle washing, as often as daily, during high heat and humidity periods to minimize the potential for paint damage due to acid rain exposure. This is especially important in geographical areas known for high frequency and concentration of acid rain and industrial fallout.
- 11003594The condition known as acid rain is caused by airborne chemicals or particles in the atmosphere, which mix with rainwater, nighttime dew, or high humidity to form acidic compounds. While Toyota paint quality, durability, and resistance to environmental factors is continuously being improved, it remains the responsibility of the dealer to protect and maintain the vehicles paint finish from the time of arrival at the dealership until retail delivery to the customer. In areas known for high frequency and/or concentration of acid rain (see Figure 1), frequent vehicle washing during high heat or humidity periods will minimize the potential for paint damage caused by acid rain. It is further recommended that either reverse osmosis or deionized water be used to prevent water spotting.
- 11003592To prevent brake rotor rust from forming during transportation and storage, wheel film will be used instead of a cardboard type of anti-rust cover. The purpose of the wheel film is to shield the disc brake rotor from weather elements and initial rust before the vehicle is delivered to the customer. Consequently, the film should remain on the wheel for as long as possible. SUPERSESSION NOTICE The information contained in this bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin No. PD017-04. The entire bulletin has been updated.
- 11003589Acid rain results from rainwater or other airborne moisture that become acidic due to industrial chemical impurities in the atmosphere.
