15 recalls name the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. Newest first.
K2 motor IS recalling 1,921 aftermarket headlamps of various models sold for use on the above listed vehicles. these headlamps are missing the amber side reflex reflector which fails to conform with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without the amber side reflex reflectors, the lighting visibility may be affected, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
K2 motor will notify owners and offer a full refund. the recall began on decemeber 17, 2008. owners may contact K2 motor at 1-909-839-2992.
Certain federal-mogul replacement wheel hub assemblies with the brand names: national, carquest p/nos. 515020, 515021, 515025, 515053, 515054, 515059, and 515060, shipped between january 23, 2006, and december 20, 2007, sold for light duty and medium duty trucks. the inboard retention nut used to maintain hub bearing assembly can loosen resulting in an ABS…
Wheel separation can result in a vehicle crash.
Federal-mogul will notify customers and will replace the hub assembly free of charge. the recall began on february 7, 2008. owners can contact federal-mogul toll-free at 877-489-6659.
Certain cequent 90 degree 7-WAY right angle adaptors sold by distributors in tow packages for aftermarket sales to tow 5TH wheel rv travel trailers. due to incorrect wiring of the harness, the trailer lights may not operate properly.
If the trailer lights are not working properly, a vehicle crash can occur.
All of the defective tow packages are still at the distributor level and have not been sold to any consumers.
Certain vehicles originally built with cloth seats that were equipped with an automatic air bag passenger sensing system and later reupholstered with aftermarket leather seat cover kits are involved. testing has indicated that the aftermarket leather seat covers can cause the passenger sensing system to malfunction.
If the passenger sensing system malfunctions, the front air bag on the passenger side may be disabled when it should be enabled, or enabled when it should be disabled. in either case, in the event of a crash that requires air bag deployment, a front passenger's level of injury may be increased.
Because a replacement leather seat cover that IS compatible with the passenger sensing system IS not available, general motors (gm) will repurchase these vehicles in accordance with the terms stated in gm's letter to owners. the recall began on november 6, 2006. owners should contact gm at 1-877-477-1022 to begin the process of repurchasing their vehicle.
On certain trucks equipped with an 8.1L V8 (rpo l8-vin g) engine have a condition in which the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip may fracture resulting in inadequate retention of the damper.
If the damper comes loose, a fuel leak may result. fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Dealers will replace the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip free of charge. the recall began on august 31, 2006. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 and GMC trucks at 1-866-996-9463.
Certain tradesonic combination lamps sold as replacement lamps for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. combination lamps not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.
Lack of amber side reflectors in the lamps will decrease lighting visibility to other drivers and may possibly result in a vehicle crash.
Tradesonic will notify owners and replace the lamps free of charge. the recall IS expected to begin during july 2006. owners may contact tradesonic at 626-934-8884.
Certain aai motorsports combination lamps sold as replacement lamps for use on the above list passenger vehicles. combination lamps not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Lack of amber side reflectors in the lamps will decrease lighting visibility to other drivers and may possibly result in a vehicle crash
Aai motorsports will notify owners and replace the lamps free of charge. the recall began on august 1, 2006. owners may contact aai motorsports at 909-923-9188.
Certain anzo combination headlamp assemblies sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles. some combination lamps are not equipped with amber side reflectors which fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Anzo will notify owners and replace the headlamps free of charge. the recall began may 9, 2006. owners may contact anzo USA at 909-468-3688.
On certain pickup trucks equipped with manual transmissions and built with either pbr parking brake systems or trw parking brake systems, the parking brake friction linings may wear to an extent where the parking brake can become ineffective in immobilizing a parked vehicle.
If the parking brake does not hold, unintended vehicle movement could occur, which could result in a crash.
Dealers will install a low-force spring clip retainer for vehicles equipped with a pbr parking brake system. on vehicles equipped with the trw parking brake system, dealers will install a redesigned parking brake cable assembly. the recall began on july 29, 2005. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463.
On certain crew cab pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the 2ND row center occupant seat belt routing may make it difficult to position the lap portion of the safety belt low around the hips of occupants, especially smaller occupants, seated in this position. appropriate use of a child seat or booster seat, as recommended for small children, does…
A lap portion of the seat belt routing that IS not low and snug on the hips can allow the lap belt to ride up on an occupant's abdomen instead of fitting low around their hipbones, and therefore, can expose them to more risk of abdominal and internal organ injury.
Dealers will cut open the guide loop, remove a portion of the loop, and then the remaining two sides should be folded over and secured with a retainer free of charge. the recall began on july 21, 2005. owners may contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, or hummer at 1-800-732-5493.
Certain trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans equipped with bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies, the hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator may crack and separate from the hydro-boost assembly during normal operating conditions.
If a separation occurred and the hood of the vehicle were open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. the presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. the loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort and a crash may occur without prior warning.
Dealers will test the hydro-boost assembly for functional operation of the two-function valve. if the hydro-boost assembly fails the test, dealers will replace the assembly free of charge. The recall began on march 23, 2005. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC trucks at 1-866-996-9463 and hummer at 1-800-732-5493.
Certain extended and regular cab pickup trucks and cargo vans converted to compressed natural gas (CNG) fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 225, 'child restraint anchorage systems.' these vehicles have one seating position, the center rear seat, equipped with child restraint lower anchorages.
The standard requires child seat lower anchorages in two seating positions for vehicles with three rear seating positions. the standard cab and cargo van vehicles, which only have front seating positions, have an air bag off switch to disable the front passenger air bag and do not have child restraint lower anchorages in the passenger seat. the standard requires passenger seat child seat lower anchorages in vehicles with an air bag off switch. However, the standard does not require vehicles with only front seating positions to have lower anchorage provisions if the vehicle IS not equipped with an air bag off switch.
To bring the standard cab and cargo van vehicles into compliance, dealers will inject epoxy into the air bag off switch to prevent air bag activation, relocate the switch behind the instrument panel and then install a cover over the resulting opening. the sun visor label and owner's manual will also be changed. the correction for the extended cab vehicle will consist of changing the front passenger seat to a seat that has child restraint lower anchorages. the recall began on september 9, 2004. owners should contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463.
Aftermarket pickup truck over-the-rail bedliners manufactured for installation on 1999-2004 chevrolet silverado and GMC sierra pickup trucks. the toggle wing assembly used to attach the bedliner to the truck bed IS not engaging fully in the stake pocket of the pickup truck.
The bedliner can become detached from the pickup while it IS motion, possibly endangering following motorists or pedestrians.
Durakon will issue a press release in attempt to notify customers that could have purchased the defective bedliner. if you purchased either a durakon allstar of patriot overrail bedliner since august 1, 2003, for 1999 to 2004 chevrolet silverado or GMC sierra trucks, or purchased one of these pickup trucks with either brand bedliner already installed, you should return to an authorized durakon dealer so that the bedliner can be inspected and, if necessary, repaired with a newly designed toggle wing fastening system, or if required, replaced with a new bedliner free of charge. please call the durakon hotline at 1-800-933-4200 to find the nearest authorized durakon dealer.
On certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the galvanized steel tailgate support cables that retain the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position may corrode, weaken, and eventually fracture. if both cables fractured, the tailgate would suddenly drop and strike the top surface of the rear bumper.
Anyone sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fractured could be injured by falling from the tailgate. on vehicles that have had the bumper removed, the tailgate may drop even lower. additionally, if there IS cargo on the tailgate the cargo may fall off if the support cables fracture.
Dealers will replace the cables. interim owner notification began on april 7, 20004. the recall began on september 24, 2004, when replacement parts were available, and will continue through october 29, 2004. owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463, or visit www.mygmlink.com, and enter your vehicle identification number.
Certain sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and passenger vans fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 135, ?passenger car brake systems.? some of these vehicles were produced with an out-of-specification brake hydro-boost housing relief valve bore.
Consequently, the valve o-ring seal may fracture. steering efforts may be slightly increased while braking or parking. under certain driving conditions, a fractured seal may require a slight increase in the applied brake pedal effort to achieve the same vehicle deceleration rate as prior to the seat fracture.
Dealers are to replace the hydro-boost relief valve. the recall began on june 18, 2004. owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339; chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; GMC at 1-866-996-9463; or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, he poured oil into the oil reservoir, and then placed the key into the ignition switch to turn on the vehicle when the air bags unexpectedly deployed without warning. The steering wheel air bag hit the contact's face and knocked him to the ground. The contact suffered cuts to his cheek, below his eye, and neck, as well as soreness to his neck, face, and back. The contact stated his left ear was ringing and he could not hear; however, no medical attention was received. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,000.
Brake failure today on chevy siverado. Driving 55 mph on highway. The car ahead of me slowed and I braked. Peddle went to the floor without stopping vehical. Was able to come to stop and could see rusted brake lines by driver door. Had wife press brake peddle to see fluid sraying from rusted area. Had zero braking power when first went out
Rear brake line blew when trying to apply brakes. No indicator lights or anything pedal just went straight to the floor. Had to swerve off the road into an embankment to avoid a collision at a red light! Mechanic said that all my brake lines were rusted and it was just a matter of time before another one was to fail.
Instrument panel/cluster IS no longer functioning. speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge and so on are erratic and giving false readings. dealer IS not willing to assist. please advise, RC, esquire.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the brakes suddenly failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a ditch. The contact indicated that when depressing the brake pedal, it extended to the floorboard. The independent mechanic examined the vehicle and discovered that brake lines had rusted. The contact also discovered that the frame, the rocker panels and the tailgate hinges had also rusted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The vin was not available.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the driver seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ecm box was damaged and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact also stated that the same failure occurred in december of 2015. The approximate failure mileage was 78,344.
I was driving on RT.7 in schenectady ny, speed was around 35mph, traffic signal changed to red, as I was appling the brakes the peddal suddenly went to the floor, lucky for me there were no cars in front of me, or in the intersection. my truck did envetually stop, but it was after passing thru the intersection. The red light on the dash did not come on till the brakes failed. further inspection revealed main brake line to the rear wheels blew due to rust.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the instrument panel would not illuminate at night to display pertinent information, such as the speedometer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 277,638.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado equipped with yokohama geolandar A/T-S tires, size: lt215/85r16 (na). The contact stated that the tires failed to pass an inspection because the tread was too thin. The tires were not diagnosed or replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 144,322 and the tire failure mileage was 25,000.
Brakes failed suddenly due to severely corroded brake lines. brake pedal was slightly mushy at stop sign coming off of freeway. at the next stop sign (3-WAY intersection on 55-mph county highway) the pedal went right to the floor. fortunately there was nobody in the intersection or a serious accident may have occurred. apparently gm's position IS that brake lines are maintenance item, and this IS normal wear and tear, which IS ridiculous. I've owned older vehicles (including a nearly 50-year old chevrolet truck) in snow country and have never seen brake lines this rusty. I am very fortunate the rupture did not occur in an emergency braking situation.
While exiting of a highway and traveling 25 mph my brakes completely failed. I pushed the pedal to the floor several times but it did not slow the truck. As a result I rear ended a vehicle in front of me. I had now warning or check light for the brakes previous or since. Upon inspection I discovered corroded and leaking brake lines in the middle section of my truck.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The brake fluid warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred on two other occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake line was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
I was driving along and had to hit the brakes immediately. I almost hit the car in front of me. I noticed I had to start putting the brakes all the way to the floor in order to stop, especially on an incline. The brake light went on and off a few times so I took it to a shop to have it looked at. They told me that my brake line blew and all the other brake lines are rusted and the truck IS not safe to drive. this truck IS only 11 years old, that IS absolutely unacceptable that all the brake lines are rusted. The truck only has 108K miles. I called a local chevy dealership and they quoted me 3K+ to fix it. It involved at least 20 hours of labor and they needed to lift the frame off to fix. I can not believe their are no recalls from gm or atleast them offering any help to pay for this. The dealer did not offer me any help or remedy to the situation, just wanted me to fork up 3K.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and was able to stop the vehicle. The contact then placed the vehicle in park, depressed the brake pedal once more and the brake pedal went to the floorboard and the brake warning light illuminated. The contact stated that upon inspection, the brake lines underneath of the vehicle were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,527.
My brother inlaw owns a 2003 GMC sierra and experienced total brake failure due to corroded brake lines in 2009. Upon inspecting my brake lines on my 2004 silverado I observed the the brake lines were corroded and would have to be replaced before they failed as well. My truck was only 5 years old at the time! After much discussion with the dealership where I purchased this vehicle I determined that they would not stand behind their product and had to pay out of pocket for the repairs. I still have the corroded brake lines, receipt and pictures of lines on truck before replacement. Keeping all evidence in case of recall. By the way, my exhaust system looks like brand new. Why didn't they use the same material for the brake lines? I don't expect anything to be done about this until cnn starts running stories about people getting killed by this problem!
The brake lines on my truck are completely rotted out. when I went to get into my truck and drive away no brake pedal exsisted. yet again another quality gm product made from inferior materials.
This IS the (2) times losing my brakes due to rusted brake lines. Today 7-11-2015 I lost them again and once again due to rusted brake lines. I ended up driving into some bushes to stop and just missing (2) trees. im not the only one in the us that IS having this dangerous problem with rusted brake lines on this type of make. I ask that you recall this make a.s.a.p. Before any lives are lost. Once again I repeat recall this make a.s.a.p. If I hit those trees I'D be dead!! p.s. Help help!!!!!!
Wife was driving on 301 south in maryland on 10\27\2012 when she applied the brakes when pulling over to get gas. Pedal went to the floor and brake fluid was visible on ground by the drivers side door. She had to leave it at the gas station until I was able to repair. Brake line was rusted through I replaced it and got truck home. Replaced 2ND brake line on 11/08/15. Now 07/10/2015 another line has rusted through in the process of replacing the remaining lines.
Air bag warning light occasionally started coming on. Took truck to several independent svc places. They said do not have computer reader for airbags. light started staying on constantly. Took truck to dealers and they said because of liability, the diagnostics are $900 and could run another $1500 or more to fix problem. And, they wanted to keep truck. Truck IS used daily for short runs and has a bunch of equipment on it that would have to be removed in order to leave it somewhere. Because of the staggering cost, and the inconvenience of having to off load the truck and not have its use and the lack of places to work on it at all, we have left it alone. I have driven vehicles without airbags over 3 continents and through jungles & all types of terrain over the last 40 years with out ever needing airbags. Now takata makes a safety device that can shoot and kill you -- do I need this? if so, who pays the repair bill?
On may 29TH my service air bags light came on. In talking with other chevy silver owners of the same year and around that year it seems this IS common. I paid $521.18 to get these air bag sensors replaced on 17 jun15 at a dealer in harrisburg pa., because I was told without the sensors the air bags would not go off. This IS a safety issue I am being told b y other drivers they are just driving around with the service air bag sensor light on. Thats up to them. also on 21 jan 14 I had to have all the brake lines replaced because they had rusted and would not be safe to drive the truck costing $720.00. I was told it was because of northeastern winters and road salts, which I find to be a unexceptable answer to the problem. on 23 dec 03 I paid $356.96 to replace dash cluster which also IS a safety problem. I these safety problems with the silverados are be ignored. My question IS how many people had be affected or injured by these problems?
ABS light on and e b c m. Pump won't stop running unless remove fuse I am original owner
While driving down the street went to hit my brakes and they went to the floor with no warning no lights on the dash at all took me a city block to stop my emergency brake barely work I'm glad I was not in dc like I was an hour before it would have been a very bad accident
2004 chevrolet silverado. consumer writes in regards to brake failure due to rusted brake lines. *smd the consumer was informed when the first line of the dual system failed, the second system received additional pressure which caused that one to fail too. *jb
Steel brake, fuel and transmission lines are extremely rusty and failure appears to be imminent, especially on brake lines. This should be a safety recall. *Tr
TL* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed on the vehicle. The odometer worked, but the fuel gauge and all other gauges failed. The dealer stated that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Gm IS conducting a recall on all subject vehicles build between may 1999 and october 14, 1999.significant changes were incorporated into production in early october 1999, and vehicles built after that date have lower warranty failure rates.the complaint and warranty data appear to support the effectiveness of these changes. Gm made additional changes in november 1999, february 2000, may 2001, and february 2004.odi will continue to monitor this problem and will take further action, if warranted, in the future.for further technical details see the attached engineering analysis report.
