Our 2014 Chevrolet Suburban has been garage-kept since it was purchased new. Within a year of the factory airbag recall replacement, the dashboard began cracking in two separate areas. The cracks have continued to spread despite the vehicle being consistently garage-kept and the regular use of a windshield sunshade.
Stopped at a stop sign. The vehicle suddenly lost all electrical power. Lights began flashing. Traction control system turned off and on. Then it went back to normal driving. I just had the Chassis Control Module Recall taken care of as well. The air conditioning is intermittently cutting its ability to cool then suddenly cooling again during this time. When the vehicle turned back on, the strong odor of fuel was present from the air vents. I had reported the issue before but was told by a dealer there is nothing wrong they could see beyond a visual inspection.
There is a technical service bulletin published (15-NA-082) that is the result of insufficient welds between the bracket and frame rail that hold the sway bar on the models listed in the TSB. Recently while on a road trip we experienced heavy (almost uncontrollable) truck swaying while on the high way. I now have to find someone with welding experience in order to fix this problem because I am concerned about the safety of my family driving this vehicle with this condition. Please consider a recall for this condition.
I received a safety recall for my suburban in 2021. I contacted the dealership and have been waiting for 1 year to get a call back from Chevrolet dealership so that they can proceed with the passenger airbag repair “safety recall”.
Dash has cracked completely front to back on drivers side, and has several cracks around the air bag on passenger side. Nothing has happened to cause stress on the dash that would cause these cracks
The dashboard cracked at the edge of the airbag. Vehicle was not in an accident.
I cannot believe we don't have a repair for this yet. It is proven to be fatal, even a 2013 Chev Cruze incident caused a fatality. I want to know something about this fix and I want Chevrolet/GM to start fixing immediately. At this point, I am paying a lien on a vehicle that could be fatal and no one is talking about when it will be repaired.
The manufacture has not accommodated the repair/replacement of this dangerous part and it has been a lonnnnnnnng time. This is ridiculous.
Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban. The contacts stated while driving at night at an unknown speed, the high-beam headlights were activated to see the roadway. Several unknown warning lights then became illuminated. The vehicle shuddered and jerked for approximately 30-40 seconds before resuming normal driving. The contact stated that the failure occurred after activating the high-beam headlights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact felt unsafe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000

Dashboard cracked at front passenger air bag and steering wheel like many other owners have experienced.
Service suspension system & dash cracked by recalled airbag that we haven't been notified to fix yet on passenger side. Also small crack starting on drivers side.
We need to sell this vehicle, which our company can not do with an open recall on it - the auction company will not allow it. I called Gene Messer Chevy and spoke with Keith & was told they CAN NOT repair yet As recall was listed in Feb, this is affecting our ability to dispose of vehicle in timely manner. My company is AgriSompo North America and the vehicle is located at our Lubbock Texas office.
TL* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle loss motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed as transmission control system failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 187,000.
Transmission released at light on hill and rolled back out of control without ability to move forward.
Cracked dashboard. afraid if in accident shrapnel from cracked dash will go flying especially if airbags are deployed.
I saw a red sturdy signal on the dashboard that states, "service airbag soon." then, saw cnn news of the recall and 17 deaths. Can I have my airbag examined and fixed?
TL* the contact owns a dorel juvenile group maxi-cosi car seat, model name: pria 85, model number: cc121biz, manufactured date: 05/07/2015 utilized in a 2014 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the front screws used to secure the harness button unscrewed from the harness. Additionally, the rear screw was halfway unscrewed from the harness button. The failure caused the harness strap to become frayed. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number. The car seat was not repaired. The manufacturer order a replacement car seat which was still pending arrival to the contact.*dt*jb*dt the consumer submitted photos. *Tr
Dash IS cracked in two places also inside handle IS made of plastic and it IS broken. vehicle was stationary
The dashboard has cracked in numerous places. *tr
Front drivers seat airbag had to be repaired repaired at chevrolet dealer. *tr
This car's fuel efficiency IS atrocious. It was advertised as 16-22 mpg but I have never been able to get more than 11 mpg on the highway, it's lower around town. 12 mpg around town. I've taken it in to chevy dealerships and maintenance shops and they say there IS nothing they can do. I've owned previous suburbans with 30 gallon gas tanks and can go 600 mikes on a full tank of gas. However, I have to stop for gas with this car after 325-350 miles. It's terrible, especially in long trips. there IS something wrong with the fuel usage by this car car and I don't know who to turn to for correction of the problem. if you don't consider this a valid complaint, can you refer me to another organization? I've tried to get ahold of a national chevrolet representative but I am always referred back to a local chevrolet dealer who says there IS nothing they can do to help. I hope ( and pray) that your able to help because the car IS using twice as much gas as I am used to with this model, having had 20+ mpg with the suburban I owned in 2000. Thank you.
When turning on the vehicle the lights will power surge. one day the vehicle just didn't start. the next day it started and as I was driving down the road I lost thermostat control, the power locks were involuntarily going up and down, the radio shut off, and the speedometer and gauges all went to the left and were not working. when I finally parked the vehicle I could smell an electrical burning smell. the vehicle was in motion for all of this on a 2 lane road.
After owning the vehicle over 5 years, the dashboard started to crack. after researching a fix, I discovered a lot of owners of my type of vehicle are experiencing the same problem in the same locations.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
