As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy

During deployment, the RRAB may be punctured or torn by the roof carrier hardware, reducing its performance and increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash.

Risk
If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not in use, the vehicle may roll away increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle would lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will re-program the software in the transfer case control module, free of charge. The recall began in early August 2014. I contacted Chevrolet Customer Service and was informed that my VIN was not included in the original and subsequent recalls for the very same issue on other 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe.

I notice the tires/wheels when turning left or right, when parking …the wheels tend to lock then I must put in muscle to turn and return to a straight position. This has gotten worse to the point I almost ended up on a curb last week. Someone needs to check this vehicle because something is wrong. I keep impuestos with the maintenance but this locking of tires/wheels and then the constant shudder afterwards is dangerous. I’m appalled there is no recall or at the very least a free diagnostic or inspection at a dealer. I already told my family to sue if I die or get hurt in this Tahoe. Totally unacceptable

The contact owned a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and stated that while driving, the vehicle's doors locked and unlocked randomly, the cabin lights flickered, and the doors failed to unlock properly during entry attempts, while the radio randomly selected its own options and the touchscreen occasionally stopped working despite the alternator and battery being replaced. Furthermore, the vehicle suddenly and randomly lost motive power and shut off on main roads, highways, and at stop signs, which caused the dashboard to flash on and off and the power steering to fail completely. When attempting to turn off the vehicle by twisting the key, it refused to shut down initially and triggered a large engine bay fan to kick on, though replacing the temperature gauges eventually resolved this specific shutdown issue. The vehicle has been taken to multiple dealers and independent mechanics, but was failed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 250,000.

The vehicle was taken to other independent mechanic who informed him that the brake vacuum assist pump needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The dealer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the recall was closed and was no longer covered. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Although I managed to bring the vehicle to a safe stop, a subsequent repair attempt failed to resolve the issue. The vehicle remains undriveable as the intermittent failure persists, creating a severe safety hazard.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The contact was advised by the dealer that the recall repair had been completed in June 2020. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,916.

Had to have motor replaced due to faulty lifters which in turn damaged the motor. No, I didn’t check with dealers, independent service centers. However, it was inspected by an independent individual who handles these type of issues on Tahoes, Suburbans, etc. Lifter issues happened in November of 2025. My vehicle is still in the shop at this writing having a new motor installed. I have never been notified of any recall for this type of issue for my particular vehicle which seems to be a common issue. Also had issues with sensors and a/c.

The failure is believed to have originated in the fuel delivery system, specifically the check valve in the low-pressure fuel feed jumper line at the engine. This valve failed to seat properly, allowing high-pressure pulses to travel back into the low-pressure side of the system. This malfunction caused the S-shaped portion of the fuel feed line near the tank to vibrate excessively against its mounting clip. This constant friction wore through the line, resulting in an active fuel leak. All damaged components remain on the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. The safety of the driver, passengers, and the public is at immediate risk due to a severe fire hazard. Because the leak is located near the fuel tank and undercarriage, gasoline is being released where it could be ignited by road sparks, static electricity, or exhaust heat. A fuel leak of this nature threatens a catastrophic fire that could result in vehicle loss or personal injury. The problem has been confirmed via a physical inspection that matches the symptoms documented in a GM Service Bulletin (Recall - High Pressure Fuel Pump Leakage). While the vehicle has not yet been subjected to a formal tear-down by a dealer due to the danger of driving it with a leak, the visual evidence at the exact location specified in manufacturer documentation confirms the failure. To date, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the leak, the primary symptoms were an audible rattling and ticking noise from the engine bay and underside, characteristic of the pressure pulses described in the TSB. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages, as the mechanical wear on the exterior of the fuel line occurred outside the scope of the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic sensors.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 135,436.

Fuel line appears to have rubbed/vibrated against the frame of the vehicle causing the line to rupture. Date of incident 12-26-2025. No MIL or warning messages were present. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than myself for this incident. I feel this issue could have resulted in serious injury or death of my entire family and possibly others on the road. The vehicle has not been modified in anyway and is in OEM configuration. We will have to have the vehicle repaired but will document as best we can. I would like to add that after a quick internet search I found this to be a common issue so I was amazed there was no recall on our Tahoe. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle hesitated and the temperature gauge failed to function as needed, with an abnormally loud sound coming from the cooling fans. The check engine warning light illuminated, and a message about the battery was displayed, and a warning light about the battery was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the thermostat housing had failed and the wiring to the fan had failed. The vehicle was repaired. Several days later, the contact stated that on a separate occasion, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the same day the vehicle was picked up from the independent mechanic, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the timing chain had failed. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 165,880.

On November 20, 2018, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE18-012 to investigate instances of sudden onset of a hard brake pedal that could result in extended stopping distance due to an issue with the brake assist vacuum pump in model year (MY) 2014 through 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series pickup trucks and MY 2015 through 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon SUVs.If the brake assist vacuum pump fails to operate as intended, the amount of brake power assist supplied to the driver can be significantly reduced, extending the subject vehicle stopping distance. GM stated that the root cause of pump failures was due to foreign debris such as oil sludge in the engine oil. GM stated that this debris can become trapped by the oil inlet filter screen. Under normal operation, this screen allows a small amount of oil into the brake vacuum pump. The foreign debris can, over time, clog the pump which can cause a loss of lubrication and a reduction in the amount of vacuum produced leading to a hard pedal and extended stopping distance.On December 13, 2018, GM issued a Special Coverage (N182202780) for the brake vacuum pump issue in MY 2014-2017 trucks and 2015-2017 SUVs on the K2XX platform for 6 years or 72,000 miles. Special Coverage repair includes the replacement of the vacuum pump and vacuum pump belt. Consumers received notification of the coverage via mail. On September 6, 2019, GM notified NHTSA that it was conducting safety recall 19V-645 which reprograms the electronic brake control module (EBCM) and included approximately 3.5 million trucks and SUVs. In October 2019, GM extended the terms of special coverage N182202780 to 10 years or 150,000 miles as well as now including the entire scope of recall 19V-645. In October 2020, GM expanded the scope of coverage N182202780 to include the MY 2018 Escalade and 2019 Tahoe.The remedy implemented in GM recall 19V-645 appears to be sufficient in addressing the safety-related concerns of this issue. Loss of vacuum assist now occurs at a progressive rate as well as there being a more timely warning of a brake problem to the driver through the driver information center (DIC). In view of the recall action and revision to the special coverage, this Preliminary Evaluation is closed. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
