Frame/ chassis cracked at steering box mount due to rusting from the inside of the frame out. There are holes and small open areas in the 4 sided frame. There is no wheel well material protecting this area from excessive amount of salt, water, dirt and debris entering in these holes as well, there is no way to maintain, clean, protect or inspect the insides of the frame to know your steering is going to fail. I am not the only person that is having this problem. Please review. Thanks for reading. Sincerely [XXX] or [XXX]. 2001 F-150 ford 4.6 liter spit # 3 sparkplug out off cylinder destroying coil over plug (cop) and stranding me over 500 miles from home, had it towed back to my hometown ford dealer shop, they wanted to replace heads at my expense,no recalls by fomoco on this manufacturing/engineering defect. Help nhtsa! *Tr
I currently own a meticulously maintained 2001 ford E150 van with a 4.6 liter motor. I have approx 78000 miles on vehicle, and recently started having spark plug issues. to make a long story short changing the spark plugs with aluminum heads can possibly ruin my van due to the plugs blowing out of the heads. at this time I'm not in a position to by a new vehicle due to something as simple and basic as a spark plug. Due to the location of motor in van the repair IS costly and time consuming. the more research I do with this issue I feel this IS a huge design flaw. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford E150. the contact heard a loud knocking noise and noticed steam coming from the tailpipe once the vehicle was started. the failure was diagnosed as a risk pin in the engine. the manufacturer stated that there was no remedy for this type of engine failure. the failure mileage was 68,900.
The outer covers of all the seatbelts in the 3RD row have all fractured resulting in the inability to latch any of the seatbelts. . This sounds very similar to the ford escape recall 03v507000. When the rear of casing fractured, the inner part of the seatbelt moved within the casing resulting in the inability to latch the seatbelt. attempts at repair were unsuccessful. *tr

Aqre: ford motor company recall 05s28 for speed control deactivation switch (scds). I received a recall notice in august of 2007 stating that my scds may be defective and cause a fire whether or not the vehicle was being operated. the scds needed to be replaced. to date all ford motor company has done IS to have varsity ford remove the scds...they have not supplied the dealer with any new parts to replace the defective ones. the dealer service rep has told me he has no idea when or if replacment parts will be provided. *Cn

I purchased a used 2001 ford pickup on 10/26/06. on january 10,2007 it caught fire while being park over night. I reported the fire to ford and their response IS that the damage was too sever to verify any mfg defect. I received the recall notice the following week. ford should notify buyer's sooner! *jb
Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the horn began honking without warning, and with no discernible cause. when the vehicle was examined, the inside of the van was filled with smoke. this was accompanied by smoldering wires in the radio panel behind the driver seat. there were no visible flames, and the smoldering wires were extinguished. the vehicle was not seen by a dealer.
Have had the vehicle since late 2001 within 5 months had to be taken in for brake problems due to vibration when stopping. Since then the van has had the rotors replaced once a year with them being turned twice. brake pads are needing to be replaced every 5 to 6 months. I have called ford each time as well as the dealer. Both have said that this IS a common problem they have with these vehicles. I don't pull anything with my van and I am not hard on the brakes. They told me it was because the front end IS heavy. *Jb
I was rear ended. seat belt did not work as it should have, causing me to end up with a bad whiplash. the seat belt does not retract most of the time. I was never notified of thes defects.*ak
Transsmission failed at 50,000 mi. repair shop stated that it was due to an electrical problem that causes the pressure in the transmission to become to high and causes fluid to be pushed back into the electrical components of the transmission causing total failure/breakage. transmission had to be replaced.*ak
When driving at any speed vehicle stalled/lost power. Consumer drifted to the side of the road, and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. vehicle was at dealer on seven separate occasions, but mechanic was not able to duplicate or resolve the problem. *ak

Purchased the vehicle late 2001 and has been in 6 times for new rotors and breaks due to vibration when braking. ford has covered it so far, and the dealership just tells me that because the van IS heavy in the front that it IS a common problem. I feel this IS a design flaw in the vehicle. who can afford a $600.00 brake job every 4 to 5 months? *la
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On september 6, 2005, odi received a petition requesting that the agency investigate allegations of engine spark plug ejection in certain model year 1997 through 2004 ford vehicles with triton V-8 and V-10 engines.odi received a total of 474 non-duplicative complaints on the subject vehicles where the complainant, or the dealer repairing the vehicle, reported that a spark plug detached from the cylinder and/or ejected from the engine.as of december 8, 2005, odi IS not aware of any allegations where the alleged defect resulted in a loss of vehicle control, a crash, an injury, or a fatality in any of the 10,319,810 subject vehicles.in addition, odi IS aware of only two incidents where the vehicle stalled without restart.information contained in the odi consumer complaints and obtained from 72 telephone interviews with complainants showed the following:(1) 99% of the complaints were on my 1997 to 2002 subject vehicles.(2) most the complainants reported hearing a loud pop while driving or upon starting up the vehicle followed by a loud, repetitive clicking or popping sound.(3) many of the complainants reported that the popping sound was accompanied by some loss of vehicle power; however, in 99% of the incidents reported, the vehicle did not stall.in the very few incidents where the vehicle did stall, most vehicles could be restarted.(4) only a small percentage of the complainants cited that they smelled gas or a slight burning smell when the incident occurred.(5) in all but a very few incidents, vehicle damage was limited to the engine.in one incident, the complaint reported that the fuel rail was damaged and replaced after one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine; however, the complainant reported that the damage did not result in any type of fuel leak or fire.in another incident, the only incident where a fire was alleged, the complainant reported that no fluid leak was observed, but that a fire resulted after the spark plug had ejected from the engine and he had restarted the vehicle and driven to another location.none of the complainants reported any damage to the vehicle hood.(6) only two complainants reported that they observed what appeared to be some drops of fuel coming from the cylinder where the spark plug had failed or on the spark plug itself; however, each of these complainants reported that there was no smoke or flames as a result of his incident.as the petitioner noted, and odi?s analysis showed, it IS possible for a spark plug to detach from the engine cylinder threads in the subject vehicles.however, odi?s analysis of 474 complaints describing such incidents found only a very few alleged any safety-related consequences.none of these showed any evidence of a serious safety consequence.given the large population and relatively long exposure time of the subject vehicles, the complaint analysis indicates that the risk to motor vehicle safety from the alleged defect IS very low.in view of the foregoing, it IS unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of the alleged defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa?s limited resources to best accomplish the agency?s safety mission, the petition IS denied.
