Risk
An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the HECU fuse, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed November 14, 2023. Owner notification letters were mailed March 29, 2024 through June 18, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC284.

Risk and remedy
Risk
Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

They told me kua would send me a letter, but I have yet to receive one.

I am not paying for something that they know IS their fault. I filed in september, and they just called a week ago and today, if you can't help me I will take the matter to the state police for the seatbelt frayed IS right across my chest . Nothing happened yet but if I am in a accident I will be hurt

Know there IS no way a mouse could get in there and chew, it IS fraying like it IS catching on very thin space where you get it out. I don't know how to get KIA to listen after KIA service said mice problem,what IS really bad IS KIA mfg. After tow and diagnosis, the engine would not turn over. No oil was found in the engine. The oil light had been intermittently lit on hills but was not on consistently. Car had been knocking intermittently the week prior. Technician said that it was possible rod failure. There were no oil leaks under the car. There was no unusual smell until it died. Oil had been changed less than 3 months prior.

Vehicle was involved in a side impact yet the side curtain airbags did not deploy. the accident resulted in the death of a rear seat passenger. there were no warning lights illuminated before the accident such as "check engine" or the airbag warning light. vehicle was turning left onto a highway and was "t boned" by a ups truck traveling at a high rate of speed. front airbags deployed but side curtain airbag did not deploy. front passengers survived the crash, albeit with injuries requiring hospitalization. insurance company will be taking possession of the vehicle in the next day or two.

The headrest position in new vehicles has caused thoracic outlet syndrome in this driver who IS 5'4". my cervical spine IS forced out of alignment with my thoracic and lumbar spine. after driving four or five hours which I do for work, I experience neck and shoulder pain. arm and hand tingling/numbness and pain IS so severe that it has interfered with the performance of my job. I can promise you that if I experienced a rear-end collision, I would suffer a closed head injury as my head and not my neck rests directly against the headrest. I'D rather take my chances with whiplash. just as all drivers don't have the same leg lengths, neither do all drivers have the same torso length. there will be many, many, many more severe injuries in shorter people. just watch the data, which will speak volumes. there are injuries now without collision. there IS no adjustment available to lower the headrest to its intended position, against the neck. the only alternative IS to remove it completely. *tr

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received eight Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) and eight Kia America, Inc. (Kia) Part 573 Recall Reports between 2016 and 2023. The combined 16 safety recalls all involve the antilock braking system (ABS) modules or Hydraulic Electronic Control Units (HECU) manufactured by the equipment supplier Mando. The Part 573 Recall Reports contain varying defect descriptions and differing remedy descriptions for the same or similar equipment supplied by Mando. Safety recalls included in this Audit Query (AQ) review include: Hyundai recalls 20V-520, 20V-543, 21V-161, 21V-160, 21V-303, 22V-056, 22V-810, and 23V-651. Kia recalls 16V-815, 20V-518, 20V-519, 21V-137, 21V-331, 22V-051, 22V-800, and 23V-652 The purpose of this AQ is to evaluate the timeliness and scoping of Hyundai and Kia’s defect decision making and adherence with reporting requirements; and understand the varying defect descriptions and remedies between these recalls.

NORMAL OPERATION, DISABLING, AND ENABLING - Starting with 2010MY, all Kia vehicles, except Rio (JB), incorporate a defogging logic to prevent the interior windows from becoming excessively fogged. Depending on the specific model, the HVAC control head monitors ambient temperature and/or cabin humidity to determine which settings will best prevent the windows from fogging. If the system detects lower ambient temperature or higher cabin humidity, the defogging logic may automatically switch ON the A/C, and/or set the air intake mode to Fresh Air. If the user changes these settings, the defogging logic will take control again after 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the procedure in this publication.

Some technicians may not be aware of the benefits the aum tool has to offer. The aum eliminates the need for multiple usb flash drives for specific vehicle models and applications which, if misapplied, may result in an improper audio system software update and/or locked up head unit. Additionally, field reports have indicated that usb drives for audio updates are easily lost or misplaced.
