This could result in an underhood fire.
Remedy
Dealers will install a fused wiring harness. an interim notice was sent to owners on september 7, 2007, directing them to have the speed deactivation control switch disconnected temporarily. a second notification letter to owners was in february 2008 advising them to return to dealers for installation of the repair part. owners of affected vehicles who did not receive a phase 2 notice and have not had the recall completed will be notified beginning august 6, 2008. owners may contact mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
Certain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector IS fully…

Tire description: firestone wilderness at, size p235/75r15, produced at the decatur, illinois tire plant and all firestone radial atx and radial atx II tires, size p235/75r15. operation of these tires at low inflation pressures, high speed, and in hot weather, can contribute to separation of the tire tread.

Remedy
The replacement/reimbursement program for this campaign expired on august 29, 2001. however, customers should contact firestone customer service at 1-800-465-1904 for possible assistance.
Vehicle description: certain 1998-1998 mazda b-series trucks (b2500, b3000 and b4000) equipped with cruise control and built from january 1998 through march 4, 1999. a cruise control cable can interfere with the speed control servo pulley and not allow the throttle to return to idle when disengaging the cruise control.
Risk and remedy

If the cruise control IS used and this condition IS present, a stuck throttle could result, which could potentially result in a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the cruise control cables. at the present time, the replacement cables are not available. customers are being advised not to use the cruise control system until a replacement can be made.
Vehicle description: light duty 4X2 and 4X4 pickup trucks equipped with 4.0L engines. The flexible section of the chassis mounted fuel line that connects to the engine was routed too close to the exhaust manifold. the line could contact the manifold.

This could potentially result in damage to the fuel line, or in some cases, cause a fuel leak. fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional clip to hold the fuel line in the intended design position.

I have a 98 mazda which IS made by ford....vin sticker on the door states such. Same as 98 ranger. Both of my rear leaf spring shackles have rusted off so severely that they went through the bed of the truck. The rear end of the frame IS rotting off and the spare tire support and tire as well. The truck only has 66,000 miles and runs great. This IS a safety issue as my rear bumper could fall off, the spare tire could fall off, and the frame already broke letting the leaf springs go right through the bed. I have read numerous complaints about ford rangers having the same issue and being a danger to not only the person driving the vehicle and its occupants, but also the following cars when the bumper falls off and spare tire too.

The contact stated that neither the manufacturer nor the dealer informed the contact when or if the parts had become available. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer stated that the recall was closed. The vehicle was never serviced under the recall. The mileage was 181,823. The contact had not experienced a failure.

I would like to report a quality issues about goodyear's tracker 2 tires. In early summer of 2007, I had 4 tires of this brand installed at wal-mart. These tires were sold at wal-mart with claims for 50,000 miles warranty. By now, it has been not more than 3 years and got close to 40,000 miles. On last saturday morning when I was driving on south bound I-77, about 1 mile a way from exit 58 in virginia, the tire on the bear driver's side blew up. I had to call police for road assistance in order to install the spare tire. I was lucky that I just rotated the tires on friday night before this trip. Otherwise, this tire would have been on the driver's side in front. when I took my pickup to wal-mart to have the tires checked, they then found severe bubbles and cracks on other 2 tires, right front passenger side and rear. Only the tire on the front driver's side still appeared to be less defective, and bubbles were found although not as apparent. we used to have tires that can run for 70,000 or even 80,000 wiles with a 50,000 mile warranty. Now, the quality issues seem invade into every corner of our daily life. With the incident I just had, I would have to say that I learned a lot. I just hope the government tightens up our rules for these companies that profit at the expense of customers. *Tr

I own a 1998 mazda pickup, 2500 model. It has always been a florida vehicle. I did a front end suspension check, and found all 4 ball joints with deep rust, no rubber seals left other than brittle and cracked remains of the rubber boot around the joints. The rubber bushings on the front stabilizer assembly were also either totally disintegrated or missing. the mechanic told me the condition had been present for some time, the ball joints were badly worn, and catastrophic failure would have occurred within months. this vehicle was built by ford. I believe the quality and durability of the rubber boots protecting these vital parts was defective. According to some others I have discussed this with, rotted boots are not uncommon. In the past I have kept vehicles for over 20 years without any problem with ball joint and steering knuckles grease covers. request this be investigated as a manufactures defect. Thanks in view of the potential for accidents, this needs followup. *tr

Mazda recall letter said to take vehicle to closest dealer for free repair work stating dealers had parts to make my truck safe. Dropped truck off for repair on oct 9, 2008 at around 4:00pm. Was told I could pick up my truck on the 10TH at around the same time. Took the next day off from work to be available when the dealer called to pick up my truck. At around 3:00pm on the 10TH, I received a message to call the dealer. Since I was told to be at the dealers at 4:00pm, I wasn't near my phone when the message was received. At around 4:15pm I arrived to pick up my truck. I was told the parts were not available and could I make another appointment. I told the service rep the recall letter said the dealers had the parts to complete the job. He then said when the truck was brought into the shop, there were no parts to do the job. I said " you've had my truck for 24 hours and it's still not repaired." I'm very unhappy with mazda's handling of this situation and hope something can be done to correct this. *Tr

I have heard that ford has been having problems with their cruise control switches. I have a 1998 mazda 2500 pickup, so my truck may have some of the some problems. Last year the cruise control "on" and "off" buttons on the steering wheel, which are back lit, became very hot when the headlights were on, regardless of the cruise control being engaged or not. The control lights have since burned out. This IS a minor inconvenience if it IS only a burned out light. If this IS a part of a larger electrical problem I would like to know and if others have had this problem. Thank you. *jb

B4000 truck continuously overheats. Thermostats have been replace 4 times. truck has been worked on by certified mechanics at ford dealership. 2002 truck overheated. There was coolant in the overflow bottle but none in the radiator. radiator leaked and head gasket was blown. I replaced radiator and heads. 2004 repeat of same incident occured.

I noticed from tsb#97-24-14, nov 1997 that the wire harness terminal repair kit was a recall problem for the 1998 ford ranger pick-up, my mazda b3000 had a burned out pad switch and modular for the airbag. 1998 mazda b2500 SE extended cab: problems with engine idle speed during idle situations (e.g., stop sign, stoplight, garage start) w/ clutch disengaged; engine revs from 1000 rpm to 3000 rpm and then quickly back down to 1000 rpm. this IS dangerous because it could be a potential root cause of an accident.

This is caused by a variable valve being stuck in the closed position. When returning from fast idle to normal, the stuck valve suddenly opens due to thermal change around it which causes abnormal noise. To eliminate this concern, the internal design of the exhaust manifold has been modified.

- 10206002Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Cooler and Lines Flushing Procedure: Automatic Transaxle/Transmission (A/T) oil cooler and lines must be power flushed completely before an overhauled or replacement A/T is installed (except SKYACTIV-DRIVE). The most common cause of repeat A/T failures is lack of lubrication to the front and rear planetary gears. This is usually caused by an accumulation of metal particles and debris (from a previous A/T failure) on the internal mesh type baffle of the oil cooler. Power flushing will remove the restriction by back flushing, followed by forward flushing to dislodge a restriction, then back flushing again. This will in turn ensure full ATF flow for the transmission when it is operating.

The odor is usually noticed after a cold start, fast idle, extended periods of idling and full throttle acceleration. Sulfur smell is not an indication of an engine concern and will not cause reduced driveability or durability of the engine or any of its emission components. The sulfur smell or 'rotten egg' odor is caused by high amounts of sulfur in the gasoline being used in the vehicle. Sulfur is normally eliminated during the refining process, but the EPA regulation of sulfur in gasoline differs from state to state. Vehicles using fuel containing high amounts of sulfur will most likely emit sulfur smell from the exhaust system.When high sulfur fuel is burned, there is a chemical reaction in the catalytic converter causing the sulfur tooxidize. As the vehicle is driven, the oxidizing reaction odor in the converter will decrease with mileage and age.

NOTE: A Warranty Code is required for warranty claim submission Battery Identification (Mazda batteries have 2 rating types) 1. JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard): JIS codes are six-digit alpha-numeric markings molded into the top of the battery to identify a battery by the capacity (amps), dimensions, and battery terminal type. Vehicles manufactured in Japan come from the factory with a JIS rated battery. NOTE: Replacement batteries may use a CCA rating. If so, use the CCA rating listed on the battery. 2. CCA (Cold Cranking Amps):CCA ratings are normally located on a sticker affixed to the top of the battery to indicate a battery's Cold Cranking Amps. CCA rated batteries are supplied with domestically produced vehicles. NOTE: If an incorrect CCA rating is entered into the Mazda GR8-1291, it will result in a false result and invalid Warranty Code from the tester. This will also result in unnecessary replacement of batteries.

Please make sure that the customer is aware that there may be a slight variance to the odometer, in which case the customer may have to accept the slightly higher mileage. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.

- 10145242On some vehicles, a sulfur smell or 'rotten egg' odor may be noticed coming from the exhaust system. The odor is usually noticed after a cold start, fast idle, extended periods of idling and full throttle acceleration. Sulfur smell is not an indication of an engine concern and will not cause reduced driveability or durability of the engine or any of its emission components. The sulfur smell or 'rotten egg' odor is caused by high amounts of sulfur in the gasoline being used in the vehicle. Sulfur is normally eliminated during the refining process, but the EPA regulation of sulfur in gasoline differs from state to state. Vehicles using fuel containing high amounts of sulfur will most likely emit sulfur smell from the exhaust system. When high sulfur fuel is burned, there is a chemical reaction in the catalytic converter causing the sulfur to oxidize. As the vehicle is driven, the oxidizing reaction odor in the converter will decrease with mileage and age.
