2015 e3350 smells gas inside cabin, a mechanic detected a fuel leak in the electric pump that IS located behind the drivers seat. 70000 miles no warning lights
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to steer in either direction. No warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure NHTSA Campaign: 16V899000(Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
On [XXX] I went out and started my car and it said. Power steering was my function so I turned it off and tried it again. And it said the same thing. Power steering malfunction read the owner's menu which I did is said if you can steal it. Drive it to the nearest dealership. You can't park it Well, it was already parked in my driveway. So on June 13th. I had a toll to Feldmann Import in Bloomington MN I hate to think of what would happen if I was driving. Could it cause an accident? They confirmed that it was a problem with the stirring call at first I thought it was a leak. Turns it off that This is electrical steroid. The electronics on this during column went out. The report said it was no can message was received from the unit in 68. VS steering control unit. There was no warning that the power Stern was going to go out. I did have a engine light on, but that was due because of my. Rare radar's being out. That's the best way I can explain it. Rear brake lines rusted out on top of rear subframe which is rusting out and caused immediate brake failure . Our lives and the lives of other were at risk because we were driving on highway and suddenly brakes went to floor and had complete loss of brakes There were no prior warnings no way to prevent this ...i see there is a recall on the subframe but not on the brake lines even though ive now read of this happening to many people
I had a brake line blowout in my 2015 Benz E350 rear brake line blowout. The rear lines were complete rusted out.
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made abnormally loud cracking sounds. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred while turning, driving over a bump in the roadway, and while driving on a steep roadway. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that the abnormal sound was coming from the sunroof. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
crankcase ventilation valve continues to fail. I have had it replaced twice in 3 months.
I was driving the car and when applied the breaks noticed that they weren’t working. It was close to be an accident with the car in front of mine, but I was able to maneuver the car. When I stopped noticed that the break fluid container was almost empty and the fluid was leaking under the car. I brought the car to the Mercedes Benz dealership and they said that it was “normal corrosion” that caused the break lines to be totally rusted and leak. They also mentioned that “it was pretty common to happen in those cars during summer”. I had no option but to pay several thousand dollars for the replacement of the rusted and corroded brake lines. It is clear that Mercedes Benz doesn’t care about the safety of the passengers, and even worse, profiting from a defect in the materials that they use for the brake lines. Someone should make Mercedes-Benz recall the cars affected and replace the defective brake lines, free of cost for the owner. Passenger’s safety is not a business!
Electric power steering assist failure. Causing power steering to fail making steering very difficult, raising the chance for a crash.
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E350 equipped with General Tires, Tire Line: Altimax RT43, Tire Size: 245/45/17, DOT Number: 838RWC094518. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH and making a left turn, the front passenger’s side tire suddenly experienced a blowout. The cause of the failure was not determined. The tire was replaced at the local dealer. The contact later discovered that the rear passenger’s side tire had experienced outer sidewall bubbling. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 25,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while the vehicle was receiving routine maintenance, the mechanic noticed that the subframe was rusted. The dealer stated that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 55,000.
Rear subframe assembly prematurely rust causing failure of the assembly requiring replacement. If not found could cause failure while driving resulting in an accident.
My 2015 E350 with only 40,000 miles was diagnosed to have a rotted and detached rear sub frame . Seems to be a common problem because of defective metal used by the manufacturer. There seems to be a lot of others with same issue I found on the internet . While Mercedes’ Benz has no recall as of yet. While driving on the highway , while at 50 to 60 mph. The car would sway and feel like it was sliding . After hitting the brakes the car would pull drastically to one side . After inspection at my Mercedes Benz dealership they told me that it is completely rotted and broke apart, this is a life safety accident since it could disconnect and hit gas tank and rip apart brake lines. The rear axle would shift and possibly fall out. While driving this car it put my family in complete danger . There were no signs , warning lights etc . That could have made me aware of the severe situation.
The rear subframe of the car (MB E350, 2015 with 81,000 miles) is completely rusted/corroded through creating an unsafe situation where the car pulled left on braking with resultant loss of control of the vehicle as it spun out. The brake lines are adjacent and are also currently being inspected by MB Open Road Service [XXX] in Bridgewater, NJ. It is a miracle we (my three grandchildren, my husband, and/or I) were not involved in a tragic accident. This manufacturing component failure has been widely reported in the USA and worldwide for years with recalls in other countries, but not yet in the USA. I also reported this by phone to MBUSA, but have yet to receive any information or confirmation of the issue in writing. As you can see from the photo (courtesy of Denson's Auto Repair who has seen this issue before), the subframe is completely corroded through. There were no warning lights and I get my vehicle serviced at the dealer every year. The vehicle was thoroughly inspected in January of 2022 for an A type service and no mention was made to me at that time about this dangerous corrosion. This is a material failure and not simply a result of harsh NJ winters with salted roads. I have never seen subframe corrosion failure in any of my cars with far more years and miles on them. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The rear suspension feels like it’s loose and Mercedes Benz dealership says it’s nothing wrong I almost lost control of the car
TL* the contact owns a 2015 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated that while driving over a bump in the roadway, a popping sound was heard coming from the panoramic roof. The vehicle was taken to napleton autowerks of indiana located at 1349 indianapolis blvd, schererville, in 46375, where the wheels were balanced and the brakes checked however, the failure recurred and became worse. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Since we have had this vehicle (2017) we had come to hear a loud cracking of the pano roof when turning (say from a gas station or side shop) and over the years it has become louder and louder until it IS constant. It IS such that we hear it all the time in warm/hot weather (like now, at the time of reporting); discussions and research has told us it IS a serious problem in that the roof could give way (albeit, explode?). are their any tsb bulletins on this issue? thank you for your consideration of this matter. best regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6).
Pano roof creaks and pops when driving; before it was just on turns not (esp. Summer in USA) it IS all the time. research and discussions say that the roof panel could explode. IS there a tsb on this or a recall? we have owned this vehicle since 2017 and for past three years it has become a constant concern. thank you for your consideration of this request.
The collision prevention assist module warning light came on. collision assist was inoperative. this can lead to loss of acceleration and braking. I took the vehicle to local dealership, mercedes benz of arcadia, who performed a software update and charged $205.oo. This IS a safety issue and should be a recall and free of charge. When the error message came on my wife was on the freeway. She panicked and pulled over to the shoulder. Restarting the engine did not solve the problem. She drove home slowly whereupon we went to the dealership.
I received recall for passenger side airbag feb 2019 and it still has not be replaced. mb dealer can't order the bag because mbusa still has my case on pending. mbusa said it was not up to them but up to the nhtsa to decide who's car get the replacement. this IS not acceptable.
TL* the contact owns a 2015 mercedes-benz E350. While driving approximately 42 mph, the blind stop detection monitoring system and other unknown warning indicators malfunctioned. In addition, the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the right. Also, while the brake pedal was depressed, the brakes failed to operate and caused the contact's vehicle to crash into another vehicle and a ditch. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
TL* takata recall. The contact owns a 2015 mercedes-benz E350. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v010000 (air bags). Mercedes-benz of cincinnati (located at 8727 montgomery rd, cincinnati, oh 45236, (513) 984-9000) stated that the part was not available. The contact felt that the dealer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Original continental conti pro contact tires (245/40/18) for mercedes benz E350 with approx. 15,000 miles on them and my tire blew on highway. And side rim of tire has big cut.it was at the time of traffic at 5 pm and I was very close to hit sidewall of highway. Last week again I discovered that other two tires continental contiprocontact on same car has a bubble on the sidewall. The bubble IS within a quater to half of an inch to the rim. After a day one tire was flat and big cut I see at same place where bubble was. I called mercedez benz as my car IS still under warranty and I was told that it has happened because of pothole and you have to replace all the 4 tires. I only drive car for work and I never hit pothole it looks like there IS manufacturing defect with tire. I am sorry to say that even car IS under warranty mercedes IS not doing anything and there IS no recall on tire. I have noticed many people complaining about bubble issue with the tire. Continental tire should be taking care of the tire as it only has 15K miles
I purchased a pre-certified 2015 mercedes-benz E350 4matic sport with 19,550 miles on 3/9/18. within the first 175 miles driven I have experienced a flat tire from complete sidewall failure in one tire (which was a newer, non-original) and two sidewall bubbles on two of the other original tires. the sidewall failure was due to hitting a small pothole while the bubbles seem to have been caused by normal driving. the tires are contiprocontact 245/40r18 which seem to have common sidewall issues from the complaints. for safety concerns I have ordered michelin pilot sport a/s 3+, so will be out around $1,000 (plus the $255 cost of replacing the first blown contiprocontact, which has about 50 miles on it, but I do not feel safe driving on it).
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
On April 10, 2020, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a defect petition from Mr. Surjit Singh alleging premature corrosion of the rear brake lines in his 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan. The petitioner states that he was recently informed by a Mercedes dealer service department that his car had severely rusted brake lines that need[ed] to be replaced immediately at a cost of about $3300. He further stated that the dealer service advisor informed him that he had seen the issue on many cars like his. The petitioner requested ?that NHTSA launch an investigation into this serious issue of rusting brake lines on [his] 2013 Mercedes E350.? The brake line corrosion reported by the petitioner did not result in brake line leakage or any compromise in brake system performance before it was detected in a dealer vehicle inspection. The petitioner submitted a complaint to NHTSA documenting his experience (NHTSA ID 11319024).On April 24, 2020, ODI opened Defect Petition DP20-004 to evaluate the petitioner?s request. ODI conducted a search for all consumer complaints and Early Warning Reporting (EWR) data related to allegations of brake line corrosion or leakage in 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedans and similarly equipped vehicles. The 2013 E350 is a fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicle (W212 platform), which was first sold in the United States in 2009 as a 2010 model. Mercedes-Benz sold approximately 245 thousand model year 2010 through 2015 E-Class sedan and wagon vehicles in the United States with the same brake line design as the petitioner?s vehicle.ODI?s search for complaints and EWR data in 2013 Mercedes E350 vehicles found no additional records related to the alleged defect. Expanding the search to all W212 platform vehicles identified just one incident, a complaint alleging unspecified brake line corrosion and leakage in a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 (NHTSA ID 10902081). The complaint did not allege that the brake line leakage resulted in reduced brake performance, crash, or injury. The resulting failure rate of 0.4 failures per hundred thousand vehicles is extremely low for a population that includes vehicles that have been in service for over ten years. After reviewing the available data, ODI has not identified evidence of a defect trend in the subject E-Class vehicles that would support opening a defect investigation into premature brake line corrosion failure. NHTSA is authorized to issue an order requiring notification and remedy of a defect if the Agency?s investigation shows a defect in design, construction, or performance of a motor vehicle that presents an unreasonable risk to safety. 49 U.S.C. ?? 30102(a)(9), 30118. Since the information before the Agency is not indicative of a vehicle-based defect, it is unlikely that any investigation opened because of granting this petition would result in an order concerning the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect. Therefore, upon full consideration of the information presented in the petition and the potential risks to safety, the petition is denied. The denial of this petition does not foreclose the Agency from taking further action if warranted or the potential for a future finding that a safety-related defect exists based upon additional information the agency may receive.A Federal Register notice further detailing NHTSA?s reasons for denial of the petition will be forthcoming.
