Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 at an auction. The contact stated that although the odometer indicated 89,671 miles at the time of purchase, there was a mileage discrepancy discovered during the vehicle registration. The title was marked exempt; there was no official documentation verifying the actual mileage. The discrepancy was attributed to an inoperable odometer or due to the condition of the frame of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 equipped with Bridgestone Tires, Tire line: Dueler A/T Revo 3, Tire size: LT265/75/R16, DOT Number: 9BW8 RE3. The contact stated that the tires were purchased in California. The vehicle was driven back home to Idaho, where the TPMS alarm sounded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and the vehicle was inspected, and the contact was informed that the rear tire was flagged and was informed that the tire needed to be removed. The tire was not removed. The contact notified the manufacturer, and the contact was referred to a Firestone location for an inspection. The manufacturer was informed that there were no Firestone locations nearby. The manufacturer approved the contact to take the vehicle to a Commercial Tire shop for an inspection. The vehicle was taken to the Commercial Tire Shop, and the contact was informed that all four tires were dangerous and needed to be replaced. The tread on the rear passenger’s tire was worn, the sidewalls of another tire were falling apart, and the tread and sidewalls on the other tires were separating. All four tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified that the tires were replaced, and a claim was filed. The vehicle failure mileage was 169,508.
The truck randomly shuts off whether just running or driving, the fuel pump fuse blows, as long as we switch the fuses it starts right up and runs again, sometimes it happens several times a day, other times it doesn't happen for a week or two. When driving it shuts down without warning and lose of everything.
I had my truck serviced for the airbag recall in 2021 at Clint Newell auto in Roseburg Oregon, they did not have a necessary part to complete the job at the moment and I had moved out of town by the time they got it in. I just today brought it in and they said they did the second half of the recall but the component was not communicating. I was informed they would charge me to investigate why. I am writing to complain and seek resources. I cant afford to have the airbag problem investigated especially since it is likely their fault/negligence. The airbag light remains on and it is still a danger to me, also they were super rude and disorganized. Please help
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while her husband was driving 55 MPH, the contact and her husband both heard an explosion coming from the vehicle and a white smoke was coming from the rear seat in the vehicle. The contact also stated the that the vehicle stalled and the seat belts locked up. Additionally, the hazard lights independently activated and the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact's husband was able to pull over and inspect the vehicle. The contact stated that the cruise control no longer operated as needed, the seat belts remaining locked; however, the vehicle resumed normal operation. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 224,752.
My dash IS cracked in two places. One by the air bag and another on the left side. This seems to be a very common problem.
Vehicle's airbag recalled in 2016 9GM 49152). I called dealer- win kelly- in july, 2017 . Kathy said "no uflorianreasonable danger' .. Be safe. Gm solution by august. called nhtsa on 9/12/17 took complaint # 11022868. got a filled our complaint form 100148 noting manufacturer "parts not available". !2/27/2020 same story.
My dash has cracked in multiple locations including the airbag surround. shards of the dash have now begun to break off - clear indication of an unsafe condition. should the airbag deploy shards of the shattering dash could rupture the airbag or worse strike and impale the occupants of the vehicle. this IS an unsafe condition. I am in the aircraft maintenance business and the faa and ntsb would never allow such an obvious hazard in an aircraft. my dash started cracking years ago and despite stop drilling the cracks as we do in aircraft maintenance on lexan transparencies the cheap plastic the dash IS made from continues to propagate new and bigger cracks. attempts to use a plastic welding repair kit also failed. a recall to address this dangerous condition IS way past due.
My dashboard IS completely broken by the passenger air bag also completely broken by the drivers cluster exposing wires and other mechanical stuff
Dashboard cracked on the left side of driver's wheel towards windshield
This IS a 2008 chevy silverado HD Z71 4X4 well taken care of. And the transmission goes into limp mode on fast stops. This IS extremely dangerous due to the fact that if a load IS on board and it goes into limp mode this could be dangerous for all behind the vehicle and around. Which could be a threat to all unexpectedly causing undue harm to other while in control of this vehicle. And vehicle sends out a code. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated was having electrical issues with the vehicle such as the lights would randomly fail to illuminate. The contact stated that the fuses were melted into the fuse box. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of an unknown electrical failure inside of the fuse box. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer nor the dealer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 156,000.
Cracked dashboard, several places dash IS falling apart, large crack near gages, at air bag, and across front of gages.
Air bag recall and electrical issue
My dashboard has cracked around the passenger's airbag. there was no indecent that caused the crack - I just got in the truck one day and noticed a small crack. over the past year it has progressively gotten worse to the point that I am concerned that it IS a safety issue. The dashboard also has a large crack on the driver's side but my greatest concern IS the danger presented by an airbag deployment that could easily send shards of sharp plastic shrapnel into the face of my passenger or that it could damage the airbag and prevent it from functioning properly. It has always been my understanding that dashboards were padded as a safety feature to protect the occupants in the event of a wreck. somehow the safety administration has allowed gm to get away with installing dangerous, brittle, cheap plastic dashboards the are prone to cracking - a problem the manufacturer IS well aware of according to my dealer. it IS a failure of our consumer safety agency to allow this to continue and a recall to fix this dangerous condition IS in order and should be required right away. how takata airbag manufacturer can be required to recall millions of airbag parts but gm IS allowed to get away with this IS inexcusable.
Motor :6.6 l deisel transmission allison 1000 rear engine cover cracked vehicle not retaining coolant (part number 12622693) trucks coolant low level indicator came on ( in motion on the highway) could cause motor to overheat and lock up while driving if defect was undisclosed and not known about - I had a deisel technician find the problem and had to have the entire transmission pulled out in order for the leak to be found . Pictures attached - the defect was not visible from the outside looking at the drivetrain
Theft deterrent system failure.... Had to have the vehicle towed due to not starting after being turned off at a drive through to order food. After testing, the shop said the theft deterrent system IS keeping it from starting.
Carheros.com received $4.95 to perform vin search. The same vin number as I gave here, (xxxxx), was given to them, with debit card paying for the search. The results they gave me had only 2 things accurate, the year and it was a chevrolet. All information was 4'4, gas engine, 6 cylinders, 2 doors, and it was trim LT1. I have requested they return the $4.95. Could you help with this problem? parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6).
My dash board has cracked all over.the vehilce IS mostly parked under a car port.
Like many other chevrolet silverado owners my dash IS cracked in two places; one above the instrument cluster and the other right next to the passenger side airbag. What?s the most concerning to me IS the crack next to the passenger side airbag, because if it ever deploys the shrapnel from broken dash will be deadly projectiles that can seriously injure or kill the occupants. This truck has only 54000 miles. I believe general motors should recall or compensate the owners of these defective trucks and suvs. The way it happened was when I got in my truck one day I had a crack and a week or two later, I had another. Another annoying part of IS my truck IS it IS equipped with diesel engine with increased vibration and when the weather gets cold there IS loud rattling or rubbing that resonates through the whole cab because of the cracks on the dash. *tr
Broken exhaust manifold bolts
TL* takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The chevrolet dealer (foster chevrolet cadillac, 2504 hayes ave, sandusky, oh 44870, (419) 504-0609) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Duramax lmm diesel engine had all 8 glow plugs fail one at a time. Replacement glow plugs from gm have a higher voltage rating on them indicating gm was aware these will all fail in time. the original glow plugs voltage rating made the engine start quicker less turnovers at the expense of the owner who had to replace all the original glow plus as thy failed after the warranty period. Few failed during warrant as other reported and most failed months to years after the warranty. in m case they all failed at year 7 of owning the truck and all failed open due to this over voltage that gm corrected in the replacement glow plug. Repair was not cheap and could leave you stranded as the glow plugs fail and are needed to start a cold motor in a cold climate. gm should replace or reimburse owners for these know to fail glow plugs. original glow plug voltage rating 4.72V, replacement glow plug rating 4.85V. Defective glow plugs causes check engine light to come on and sets pcm codes as well as hard starting and excessive cranking to start. Upon start engine could be very rough as it runs without the cylinder that has the failed glow plugs.
Winter driving on highway fairly clear road and while driving at speed the service airbag system message and airbag light came on the dash. Clearing system did not clear code or lights. Key cycles did not clear the problem. We replaced the front impact sensor and the system clear automatically. The sensor was not corroded or damaged yet failed during winter yuck while driving. Close inspection showed a crack around the mounting hole possibly due to water freezing in the bolt hole as the plastic case has a very thin portion and shows a crack. The bolt mounting hole has a metal spacer to keep from crushing the sensor case during mounting. these sensors are failing for no reason and gm needs to fix this reoccurring issue as the sensors are not cheap and could cause the airbag system to fail at a critical time or possibly set off the airbag for no reason making it a very costly repair not to mention a possible uncalled for accident. at $200 gm should replace these sensors under warranty. Aftermarket sensors are available and cost half of gm.
I have a 2008 silverado in showroom condition. It has 109K miles and has been a great truck. Over the last 24 months I have noticed cracks appearing in the dash. Eventually they got so bad that they stretched all the way across the top of my dash including the area around the air bag. I received an airbag recall and I showed the dealer the cracking. I explained my concern that if the airbag deployed it would cause plastic shrapnel to fly into the cab of the truck. The dealer said my truck was out of warranty and that it would cost close to $8000 to completely change the dash which they told me was the only option. I called chevy corporate and spoke with a chevy representative and got basically the same answer. I asked what they were going to do when an accident occurs where someone IS seriously injured or killed by the broken plastic flying through the cab. The representative refused to answer me.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
In a letter dated august 27, 2008, general motors corp. (Gm) notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 08v-441) to address a safety relateddefect that can result in engine compartment fire in approximately 850,000 vehicles equipped with a heated windshield washer fluid option.the subject vehicles of this investigation comprise over three-quarters of the recall population. According to gm, a short circuit on the printed circuit board for the windshield washer fluid heater module may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. This may cause other electrical features to malfunction, create an odor or cause smoke and in rare cases it may cause a fire.as a remedy, gm dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse. In addition to the subject vehicles, several other gm models with the heated windshield washer fluid option are included in recall 08v-441: my 2006-2008 buick lucerne (manufactured august 2005 through november 2007); my 2008 buick enclave (manufactured february 2007 through april 2007); my 2006-2008 cadillac DTS (manufactured may 2007 through november 2007); my 2007-2008 saturn outlook (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007); and my 2007-2008 GMC acadia (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007) vehicles.gm IS instructing owners to take their vehicle to a dealer for service if they experience symptoms of windshield washer heater module short circuits. Gm's recall resolves the safety defect concerns pursued by this investigation.this engineering analysis IS closed.
In response to an information request letter sent by the office of defects investigation(odi) during preliminary evaluation pe08-010, gm provided odi with 41 allegations of non-crash engine compartment fires including 16 allegations of fires originating with the ignition in the off position.one of the fires was determined to be caused by an arson event.odi has also received 5 reports, 4 of which are of duplicative of reports provided by gm, alleging non-crash engine compartment fires in the subject vehicles.in total, odi IS aware of 41 non-crashengine compartment fires in the subject vehicles that are unrelated to arson.eight of the 41 fire allegations also allege property damage as a result of the fires.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea08-010) to further assess the scope, frequency, origin and cause of the alleged non-crash related engine compartment fires in the subject vehicles.
