7 recalls name the 1999 Dodge Stratus. Newest first.
Federal-mogul IS recalling certain replacement control arm assemblies, part numbers k7425, 10945, fa4510x, k7427, 10946, and fa4611x, sold for use on various passenger vehicles listed above. the ball joint on the control arm assembly can fail causing the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing resulting in noise and/or separation of the ball stud…
If there IS a separation of the ball stud from the housing, the driver can loose steering control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Federal-mogul will notify owners of record and replace the affected control arms free of charge. the safety recall began on january 28, 2011. owners may contact federal-mogul at 1-877-489-6659.
Qualis automotive IS recalling certain aftermarket ball joints sold for use on certain passenger vehicles. the socket may have been excessively hardened which could cause it to crack near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load. the subject ball joints were sold as four part numbers, d10945, d10946, g10945, and…
Separation of the ball stud from the socket of the ball joint housing would allow the control arm to collapse and the wheel to fold in causing loss of steering control, possibly resulting in a crash.
Qualis automotive will replace the ball joints free of charge. the safety recall began on november 9, 2009. owners may contact qualis automotive at 1-800-493-4128.

Ti automotive will notify owners and replace the defective fuel pump modules free of charge. the recall began on october 6, 2006. owners may contact ti automotive toll-free at 1-877-461-1834.
On certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.4 liter engines, the high pressure power steering hose may prematurely heat age and develop a leak.
Power steering fluid leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in an underhood fire.
Dealers will replace the high pressure power steering hose free of charge. the the recall began on april 10, 2006. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. an inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.
Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
Dealers will install a new load-limiting push rod into the floor shifter lever of the affected vehicles. owner notification began on june 14, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. the right rear brake tube can contact the exhaust system clamp and wear a hole in it.
Daimlerchrysler recall no. 843. if this happens, the tube could leak, reducing the effectiveness of one-half of the diagonally split braking system, and resulting in longer stopping distances.
Dealers will inspect the brake tubes for visible evidence of contact with the exhaust system clamp. if the tube shows evidence of contact, it will be replaced. if no evidence of contact exists, the tube will be fastened with a clip.
While driving the vehicle I came to a stop to make a left hand turn and as I started without warning the vehicle stalled and lost power of steering wheel and brakes I almost hit another car. This wasn't the 1st time car has stalled while driving but the one where is came close to causing an accident
I got this next site to do again email. Claim #11301605 and following up as to your next step. 3 recalls the dodge customer care people dont want to do or help me fix or conclude.
I bought a car in jan 2020 which has been sitting a few/couple years and I found 3 recalls on it. 1999 dodge stratus 2.4. I emailed u s customer care/ dodge customer care and got mail back stating yes on 3 recalls and a dealer in reno NV to call. I called and service and parts dept said yes on recalls. Bring it in to check and advise to fix. Got mutil mails from customer care stating they had car under last owner and I told them I was new owner. Next mail was, claim/s are closed. I asked why now 3 times and no answer except a take survey. No service or repairs have been done on this car other then to find out there was 3 recalls and now customer care doesnt want to do anything to fix this car. I dont understand how one day there IS and the next day claim closed. The only difference IS I am a new owner. One recall IS for a fix power steering hose so car wont catch fire. I am have got nowhere with all my tries to get car recalls fixed. According to web sites the 3 recalls are listed as incomplete still to date. Meaning not taken care of to my understanding.
I was driving and hear a metal scraping noise from my front right side by the wheel when I turned left.before I got home the noise got extremely loud and constant.i took the tire off when I got home and found the ball joint was broken and was out of position cause a rubbing inside my tire rim.it looked like the arm of the ball joint had been burned through causing it to break.there seems to be a recall on some 1999 dodge stratus' ball joints but when I entered my vin# mine did not come up.they shouldn't just break from normal use.it was on the highway when it happened driving normally then the noise started and I felt kind of a pop and almost lost control of the car.
While traveling on interstate I85 in sc. The sunroof glass dislodged and flew off of the roof of my vehicle. The glass shattered on the roadway and fortunately no other vehicles were struck. after further inspection and investigation it was clear that the glass had separated from the frame of the sunroof assembly. according to the manufacturers label, it was manufactured by vermeulen - hollandia serial number 399915. Apparently there IS an open voluntary recall on sunroofs manufactured by this company for separation issues. the model numbers reference in this voluntary recall IS model number 60000000 and above and apparently does not include the 3000000 series. since the issues are the same, i.e. Separation of glass and frame, there are clearly other safety issues still out there. Hollandia's voluntary recall IS alleged to be for non factory installed products, however, my 1999 dodge stratus was purchased new from the dealer with this sunroof installed.

Hard to control steering of vehicle! Whenever I pass over a speed bump feels like whole car IS going to come apart. *tr
While driving the vehicle I noticed a very loose sound coming from the lower left wheel. especially when going over bumps. I took the vehicle to les schwab company for a lookover and found that it needed upper and lower ball joints replaced, a steel arm replaced, as well as an alignment. when researching recalls on my 1999 dodge stratus I noticed the problems I was/am having with the vehicle were noted in similar situations involving recalls of other stratus'. my car should be fixed and included in similar recalls. thank you. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began to rattle and felt loose. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and noticed that the ball joint on the control arm assembly had failed which caused the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing which resulted in the noise. the vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer had not yet been notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number:10e059000 (suspension). the approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
My horn goes off when turning the steering wheel, it started about 3 weeks ago, had the horn disconnected , have a new battery and it goes dead over night, my mechanic said it may be a short in the steering wheel by the air bag. I see other people with the same problem, how do I know that my air bag not going to explode and injury me. should be a recall on this problem. *tr
I was driving the car all day and it began to smoke; which had been an ongoing problem under the hood, a light white smoke as if something was dripping and burning off the engine. once I parked the car about 10 minutes late the smoke became dark and black and fire erupted. car was totaled, fire dept was called to the scene. *tr
My girl friend came home and said the car was smoking so I went to look at it and yes smoke was coming from the firewall side of the motor right above the exhaust manifold .i did some research and found a recall on the high pressure hose for the power steering pump so I called the number given and chrysler set me up with haddad dodge in bakersfield california we set an appointment for the repairs to be done , I brought the car to them and they kept it for 4 days I called them about the car and they said it was ready I picked it up later that afternoon drove approx 6 miles home it was smoking slightly but no where near as bad as before so I thought nothing of it , maybe just residual from before the repair.the following morning I drove from real rd to fair view ave and the car was smoking heavily I stopped in front of a friends house opened the hood and there was a fire burning on the back side of the engine luckily there was a garden hose hooked up out side the house , I grabbed that and put the fire out . Could smell fuel heavily parked the car and have not moved it since just a week ago about a month after all this haddad dodge left me a message saying that my parts had come in and they would like to set an appointment for the work to be done . According to them they had already done the work no body told me that the work was not complete quite the con-trary I was told it was fixed and ready to go the service attendant was so busy on his phone and cell phone he hardly spoke a word to me I had to find the car in there lot so I could go home , why would anybody in there right mind let someone drive a car that could catch fire. *tr
This IS the second time this has happened. Lost all instrumentation: speed, fuel, rpm, etc,at 50mph. just prior to this, the ABS light came on. the first fix included a new battery last year, three alternators until one worked (do not think this was the problem), and some kind of a harness which was rubbing on the engine? And creating a short. this problem could be the reason for all the car fires. thank you. *tr
While I was parallel parking my passenger saw heavy white smoke after I turned my steering wheel sharply. My steering wheel locked also. My passenger and I got out of the car and called 911. I believe I turned the ignition off before getting out. The smoke started on the front passenger side and flames were seen under the front of the car. the fire department came and put out the fire. Everything under the hood was burned and the car was a total loss. afterwards the car (interior and exterior) smelled like burnt power steering fluid. I filed a claim with my insurance company. *tr
TL* the contact owns 1999 dodge stratus. The contact was driving 55 mph when the interior and exterior lights failed to illuminate. The contact also stated the power windows and door locks failed to work properly. The contact stated the failure was due to the wiring harness. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 92,100.
With no ryme or rythem, the winsheild wipers fail to turn on, power locks fail to work and turn sygnals fail. Engine stalls and will not restart while in traffic for at least 30 seconds. These conditions happen while on the roadway and with children in the car , loss of ignition, winsheild wipers or turn sygnals can cause an accident or death.
1999 dodge stratus, unit 1 was traveling westbound in the right lane. unit 2 was disabled on the right berm westbound. unit 3 was entering 180 from the westbound acceleration ramp at interchange 180. unit 3 failed to yield entering I80. unit 1 rear trailer duels were struck by unit 3 in the right lane. unit 3 separated from the trailer of unit 1, ran off the right side of the road, and struck unit 2. *bf unit # 3 failed to yield which resulted in the collision. While filling up my gas tank the fuel spilled everywhere and when I checked it out the fuel neck line (filler) broke away from the frame of the car. I cannot find a replacement and chrysler has these items on back order I understand. I am wondering if their IS a recall. I have a 1999 dodge stratus. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. whenever the weather IS very hot or a heavy rainfall has taken place, none of the instrument panel gauges or electrical equipment will work in the vehicle. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 5,000. updated 08/28/09. *lj updated 08/31/09.*jb
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. when it rains, the instrument panel gauges, windshield wipers, and air conditioner become inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle was a lemon because it has been included in two recalls and the windows did not work at the time of purchase. the contact believes that chrysler should repair the vehicle since the failures have been occurring since the day it was purchased. the vin and failure mileage were unknown. the current mileage was 5,000.
Interior fan switch failure re: dodge status 1999 the fan speed switch in the dash has lost speeds 1,2 and 3. only position 4 (or high) works. After a very expensive replacement service, it failed again around a year later. again, it only blows on high speed. until this morning when my elder dad called to tell me he need to have his switch fixed on his dodge caravan 2003, I began to wonder how wide spread the issue was. I began looking on the internet to find many people complaining about the same problem. there are numerous complaints from customers of various chrysler models that are experiencing the same problem with the switch, resistor, or sensor. I believe there should be a national recall on the issue and customers should be compensated for repair already performed. here are a few related problems & complaints from vehicle owners. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl547f.htm http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/dodge-durango/tmlimgpd8aaksokns http://www.myhonestmechanic.com/articles/dodge-dakota-air-conditioner.shtml http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/intrepid/1999/ac_heater/blower_fan_switch_stopped_working.shtml http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0dac8b/132 http://free-auto-repair-advice.blogspot.com/2008/06/blower-motor-stays-on-highcaravan.html http://www.dodgedakotas.com/boards/dea/62-3.html http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6453105 thank you in advance for your assistance and speedy resolution. *Tr b. Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. while driving approximately 5 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. approximately 30 minutes later, while coming to a complete stop, the contact noticed that her vehicle was on fire. all the passengers exited the vehicle without injuries. the entire front end of the vehicle was completely destroyed. both a fire and a police report were filed. the dealer stated that the fire may have been due to a recall and would forward the information to the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated that the fire was not due to nhtsa campaign ID number 06v001000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections). the contact later entered her vin into the dodge website and discovered that her vin was included in the recall. the current and failure mileages were 95,000.
Fire under hood due to leaking power steering fluid hose, received recall notice in mail weeks after incident. Was fire department dispatched. Sold car to tow company for 150.00 on october 9. Reported this to chrysler dealership to try get money we paid for car. But they could not locate car to do inspection. We have several pics of car after it burned. Recall state that the defect in power steering hose was leaking on motor and igniting causing an under the hood fire. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Odi has received 29 reports of engine compartment fires that appear to be related to power steering hose leakage in model year (my) 1999 and 2000 chrysler cirrus, dodge stratus and plymouth breeze vehicles (ja-cars) equipped with 2.4L engines.these reports indicate that the fire resulted from a power steering hose leak or that it occurred after an extended drive and shortly after being parked - conditions consistent with ignition of power steering fluid on a hot engine or exhaust surface during the vehicle hot soak period. On january 6, 2006, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) notified nhtsa of a safety defect on my 1999 and 2000 ja-cars built from july 1, 1998 to july 31, 2000 and equipped with 2.4L engines (recall 06v-001).the notification stated that ?the high pressure power steering hose may prematurely heat, age and develop a leak. Power steering fluid leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in an under hood fire.dcc indicated that it was aware of 94 complaints and field reports that may be related to this condition when it made the defect determination.to remedy the defect condition, dcc will replace the high pressure power steering hose on the affected vehicles with a new part made from a hose material with increased heat resistance capability. Consequently, this investigation IS closed.odi will monitor the effectiveness of the remedy and take further action if warranted.
On june 29, 2005, odi opened preliminary evaluation pe05-036 to investigate complaints of engine compartment fires in model year (my) 1999-2000 chrysler cirrus, dodge stratus and plymouth breeze passenger cars (ja cars). The ja cars were introduced in my 1995 and ended with my 2000.they were produced with 2.0L, 2.4L and 2.5L engines.the incident data in the failure report summary of this resume are for subject vehicle engine compartment fires for all causes. According to daimlerchrysler, evidence collected from field inspections of fire incident vehicles indicate that fluid leakage from the high pressure power steering hose IS the most likely cause of the fires in the subject vehicles.the subject high pressure power steering hose IS used in ja cars with both the 2.4L and 2.0L engines in my 1995 through 2000.the fire incident rate in the my 1999 through 2000 ja vehicles with 2.4L engines IS significantly higher than in the prior model year vehicles using that engine and in any of the vehicles with the 2.0L or 2.5L engines.daimlerchrysler IS continuing its investigation of the issue and has provided periodic updates to odi. An engineering analysis (ea05-019) has been opened to further assess the scope and frequency of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.
The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler?s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, JX and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).the population number includes all mys.the precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.the fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever IS shorter).there are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi?s database, and dc has received no reports either.the prowler IS excluded from the recall scope.the investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.the interlock system IS required under fmvss 114.with the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.when this occurs, there IS no overt indication to an operator that the system IS defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator?s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.the rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.
Three of the manfacturer complaints and two of the manufacturer crashes reported above were duplicates of odi reports.the majority of crashes occurred after operators parked the vehicle without engaging park gear position; a non-functional ignition-park interlock system subsequently failed to prevent key removal before the operators exited the vehicle.most of the crashes were minor and involved minor property damage.four of the injury incidents occurred when unattended children moved the gearshift from the park position causing the vehicle to roll away, one injury occurred when the operator was struck by a roll-away vehicle after parking and exiting.all injuries were relatively minor.a significant number of interlock system failures appear to be related to disengagement of the interlock pin that rides in the interlock lever slot within the shift mechanism.an engineering analysis will be opened to further study interlock system failures.
There are no injuries or fatalities associated with this alleged defect.while conducting this investigation, odi found that the subject cinches meet the load bearing requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 208, and that many of the reported failures were due to incorrect child safety seat installations. Additionally, the report rate IS low (1.60/100k).the information available fails to establish the existence of a defect trend at this time.further allocation of agency resources to this issue IS unwarranted and the preliminary evaluation IS being closed.
