Risk and remedy
Risk
Both nhtsa and gm discourage placement of a child in a front seat. nevertheless, there are individual circumstances that may require placement of a child in a restraint in the front center seating position of this vehicle that does not offer a rear seat. lack of access to the top tether anchor and a lack of instructions as to how to use it, may result in improper installation of a child restraint. improper installation of a child restraint can result in a reduction in the restraint's performance in the event of a crash and an increased risk of injury or death to the child seated in the restraint.
Remedy
Dealers will cut a hole into the back panel trim cover to allow access to the top tether anchor for the front center seat position and will provide supplemental information as to use in the owner's manual. the manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, isuzu at 1-800-255-6727 or visit gm's website at www.gmownercenter.com.

My husband recently asked if I had encountered any problems using the cruise control in this vehicle. Since I seldom drive any distance with that vehicle, I never noticed anything. But he had traveled onto the interstate, and when attempting to set the cruise, noticed it didn't work. Yesterday, I had to follow him somewhere, and I noticed the brake lights weren't coming on. We tested all the other things (tail lights, back up lights, turn signals), and everything was working properly. Today I was looking to see how to replace the brake light switch, and also noticed there were instructions on how to replace the cruise control switch and fuses, too (as they all seem to be related.) Then I found that some models of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon were affected by a recall for this same issue. When I looked it up just now, this model (2009 GMC Canyon) is not under the recall (but it has the same issue).

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Car will periodically and unpredictably not crank, fire or start. After attempting approximately 10 minutes later it will. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? One never knows circumstances in which they need reliable transportation. In my case I have elderly parents that can need me at any given time. In most cases it is an annoyance but due to the unpredictable factor anything could happen. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes but no codes were trapped in ECM Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

I was driving approx. 65 mph in heavy traffic on the new york state thruway when I lost all power to my truck and was barely able to manuever off the road. I had my truck towed to my mechanic & was told that it was the fuel pump flow control module. Recall no. 08411 2009 GMC canyons were recalled because of this problem. The recall stated that the fuel system control modules have a condition in which an adhesive separation of the rtv seal between the seal and the housing may allow water to seep into the module. Water in the module could cause a short, illumination of the service engine soon light (which was on in my truck). Also the engine may be hard to start, may not start or may stall. If the vehicle stalls while it IS moving, a crash may occur! This happened to me but I was fortunate enough to not crash and die. Like others my truck did not fall within the vin #s. Obviously there was a problem with this part. My truck had the problems stated in the recall and this was confirmed by my mechanic & dealership. However, GMC denied the reimbursement because it was not within the recalled vin#s. GMC was not broad enough with their recall!! I'm attaching a photo of the module and you can clearly see the corrosion .

My airbag light came on, I took it to my local repair shop and they found a broken wire in the rear driverside door they spliced the wire and that worked for about a month and now it IS coming back on again but it seems to only come on when it IS damp or raining. I open the door and move the wire harness around it will go back off.

Intermittent and repeated partial failure of fuel system control module part number 20850907 during driving, including rough engine operation, loss of most of engine power on moderate highway grade, slowing to 15 mph under speed limit, and failure to restart approximately 15 minutes after shutdown. malfunction indicator lamp lit and diagnostic code for low fuel rail pressure was recorded, but fscm malfunction diagnostic code was not recorded until after at least two incidents had taken place. vehicle (vin) entry into database returned "0 recalls", so nhtsa campaign 09v154000 remained unknown and ordinary replacement of fscm was attempted. When fscm 20850907 replacement was ordered, gm fscm part 20759945 was supplied, which failed to operate. gm dealer refused to verify correct part number and withheld all information about nhtsa campaign 09v154000.

My pickup has what gm refers to as "phantom shift". while traveling on I5 @ 70 miles per hr, my pickup thru no action on my part, shifted into 4 wheel drive. previously this happened while turning left or right at slower speeds. gm issued a "bulletin" in feb. 2011 giving dealers instrutions on how to deal with, and repairs to fix this problem. a local dealer, using that bulletin, in december 2016 proceeded to "fix this problem with my vehicle." charging me $849.35. in july 2017 the same problem re-appeared. the local dealer (airport chevrolet in medford, oregon) IS now refusing to honor their warranty for their "fix in december claiming that becaust the computer in my vehicle IS not "throwing any codes". gm IS demanding that I get a second opion at another dealer at my expense when the other dealer has already espressed an oral opion that they know they can't fix anything that doesn't "throw codes". according to info I have discovered on line, this problem has exhisted with this particular model pickup since 2004 and now, gm IS refusing to cooperate with me. Attempt to start the engine after sitting for a few hours in driveway, the engine starts then sputters and stalls as if not getting enough gas and attempts to die. After a few moments, it finally catches up and runs. Engine has stalled while sitting at traffic lighs several times. According to document ID # 2274089--- #08411 product safety- hard start, no start, engine stall- replace engine control module- ( may 7, 2009) I have taken my vehicle to a GMC dealership several times in the past along with a copy of recall but they claim that it IS a service bullentin and not a recall so they would not fix the problem. I took my vehicle to an independent gateway service dealership and told them the problem I was having with the engine stall. They pulled up the recall and showed it to me and advised me to take my vehicle to a gm dealership for the recall that the gm dealership says that there IS no recall. I have had this truck for 4 years now and the same problem exist but gm denys that a recall exist even when I have the paperwork in hand.the recall pertains to truck numbersbetween 98104805 - 98123129. My truck # IS 98123053 which falls in that category. My vehicle falls into this category but has not been repaired since I have had posession. I would appreciate it if this problem can be resolved.

I drive a 2009 GMC canyon. when driving I've notice that when hitting a hard bump, sometimes turning or accelerating quickly whether on the highway or street, the truck shuts off causing the power steering and power brakes useless and very hard to apply. Sometimes this happens several times in the course of one trip and happens at a variety of different speeds. This IS an ongoing problem. The icon for the theft deterrent appears. then I have to quickly put the truck in neutral in order to restart the truck. The date below IS the most recent day it has happened. this has become a very serious cause of concern for me and my family. I'm not sure if this IS related to the ignition recall or any other recall. this problem happens mostly when I hit a hard bump in the road, again at various speeds. I've taken it to my mechanic, but he was unable to duplicate the problem. I've decided to ask the dealer if they know of any related problems and see what response I get, but I also wanted to file a complaint to find out if anyone else IS having this issue. if you are aware of any other complaints related to this issue, can you please contact me so that I may resolve the problem. I don't want to take this issue lightly because the life of my family IS involved. if you have any other questions please contact me, my name IS [xxx] and my phone number IS [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

For several months now, vehicle will not start. turn key, no click, no crank, nothing. all standard dash light come on, headlights are bright, all accessory items work fine, just no start. have taken truck in to dealership twice now for problem, and no resolution. starts every time for them. last time took key and paperwork, went out to lot, got in, and no start, went back in to dealership, finally grabbed mechanic, went to truck, but it started ok. may not fail again for a day or more, then fail several times in same day. failed to start today after pulling into gas station and getting fuel, would not start. long line of cars behind me and situation got very ugly fast. station owner/worker helped diffuse situation. if you let vehicle sit for 10-15 minutes between retries, it may start. *js

Every few days the vehicle will not start.... The security light comes on.. You have to disconnect the battery and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes for the computer to reset before you can restart the vehicle. This has happened at least once to twice a week starting shortly after I purchased the vehicle... I have taken it back to dealership where I bought it from and they said they could not find out what the problem what because it did not do it to them. I asked if they started it and drove it several times for a few days like I do and they said no they just put it on a machine and could not find anything wrong. This I feel was something that was wrong with the vehicle when I bought it or happened for some reason shortly after when I still should have had a factory warranty... So it should be fixed at no charge to me... It IS obviously a factor security defect. It has been going on for 7 months and I am tired of having to deal with it and all they tell me IS we could not find anything wrong.. I don't feel like I should have to be paying for a vehicle that does not work properly.. It should be fixed so I have what I am paying for a properly working vehicle. *tr

My airbag light came on unexpectedly and remained on. the cause was due to broken airbag (orange wiring in the extended cab drivers side rear door. upon inspection, several wires (air bag (orange), a speaker wire (brown) were completely broken. this appears to be an extremely common problem with chevy colorados/gmc canyons with extended cabs and should be looked into further. the airbag shouldn't be compromised because of a poor wiring design in the rear door. *tr

To start out I would like to say that this IS my first brand new vehicle I have ever bought. I was on I 475 driving approx. 65 mph when I lost all power to my truck and was barely able to coast off to the side of the road. I had my truck towed to the nearest GMC dealership to determine the problem. I was told that it was the fuel pump flow control module. I researched this problem at home and found out that 2009 GMC canyons were recalled because of this problem. Hello, this happened to me but I was fortunate enough to not crash and die. So back to the recall on my truck. Guess what? My truck did not fall within the vin #s that were recalled and I was required to pay for the repair. To make matters worse my warranty covered this problem if the truck was within 3 years or 36,000 miles whichever comes first. Well my mileage was only 31,000 so that would qualify but my truck was over 3 years old. This IS sooooooooooooooo wrong!!! Obviously there was a problem with 2009 GMC canyons being built. How can you say it was just a certain few that had this faulty part put in it. My truck obviously had the problems stated in the recall and this was confirmed by the dealership.however after many aggravating hours to GMC they still denied the fix because it was not within the recalled vin#s and that IS wrong on so many levels. How many people have to die or get hurt before they do something about this? *tr

I sent in this complaint a year ago and never heard back from you. Throttle sticks on my canyon and it appears to be computer related. It continues to accelerate even after taking my foot "off the gas." it will rev down after hitting the brake pedal. Have you heard of this before? Truck IS standard shift and usually happens when "going through the gears". *tr

This incident has happened on several occasions. When taking off from a stopped position and going through the gears when accelerating quickly, the accelerator has stuck even when my foot IS taken off of the pedal. This happens as I am shifting from first to second gear, when I take my foot off the gas then push in the clutch and shift gear and release the clutch, the computer does not respond to my foot coming off the throttle. The truck continues to accelerate even with my foot off of the throttle. The only way to stop the acceleration IS to repeatedly tap the pedal until it releases. The first time this happened I thought that I might have inadvertently hit the cruise control but this IS not the case. It seems that I need to allow approximately a one second delay from when I remove my foot from the throttle until I push in the clutch to avoid this situation. IS this typical of today's computer controlled vehicles? *tr

They checked his vin and said there wasn't anything. It isn't the bulbs, fuse, etc. They "fixed" it and said "it'll either work for the next 5 min or it won't work at all." and handed him the keys. He drove it and sure enough, the lights went out, again. He took it back and the same thing happened. "It may or may not work, yada yada..." why would they hand them the keys plus allow it pass for inspection if it does not work? As far as I am concerned, the work has not been completed. My husband recently got out of the usmc and has yet to find work. We cannot afford to keep taking it back or yet pay for a ticket!!!! *Tr
