On August 26, 2026, while driving my 2010 Jeep Liberty with approximately 72,000 miles, I was making a low-speed right turn from a stop when I suddenly felt a significant jolt that initially felt like I had driven over a large object. Immediately afterward, whenever I pressed the accelerator, the rear of the vehicle shook violently and made loud thumping noises. When I released the accelerator and coasted, the vehicle was smooth. I pulled over within approximately 200 feet and had the vehicle towed to a repair shop. The repair shop inspected the vehicle and determined that both rear trailing arms had completely rusted/rotted through and fractured. The technician specifically stated that the failure was caused by severe corrosion. According to the technician, after both trailing arms broke, the rear axle was no longer properly restrained and the rear wheels/axle assembly were moving significantly. The rear differential/driveshaft assembly moved upward and struck the fuel tank protective guard/plate with significant force. Fortunately, the fuel tank was not ruptured. The shop also documented damage to the rear differential and driveshaft and advised that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. We are the original owners of this vehicle and purchased it new. The vehicle has only approximately 72,000 miles. The trailing arms failed suddenly during normal, low-speed driving. The repair facility has photographs documenting the severe corrosion and failed rear trailing arms, as well as a written inspection report documenting the failure.

The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 60 MPH, the driver lowered the driver's side window when a smoke odor was present. The driver saw a flame burst from the door-mounted electrical panel with the door lock and window controls. The contact blew the flames out and then returned to the residence. The contact mentioned that her husband's clothes had a strong smoke odor due to the failure. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that before the electrical fire, during brake work on the vehicle, a mechanic had advised that a wire harness on the tow hitch had melted and had warned the contact not to use the tow hitch. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.

The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed of the cost to replace the air bags. The contact was informed to call the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that he was not the original owner and the manufacturer denied repair. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

What the hell do y'all guys even do because these problems exist all over the internet. Do y'all get kickbacks or make deals with the car companies because it seems not have to do anything with the safety of the equipment that is being sold.

Valve stem failure. Low tire pressure light came on, and tire immediately went flat while driving at 55-60 mph. After tire was changed, went to tire shop where they said valve stem was either blown out or sucked in, and 2 more were ready to fail, so replaced all 4. I didn’t quite understand all, but seemed to have something to do with the tire pressure sensor, or parts of it being worn.

Chrysler jeep no longer makes the part to fix the sky glider there for owners of this vehicle or just out of luck and have no way to fix or replace this part now the car floods when it rains because it does not seal completely.because of this it's causing other electrical damage to the vehicle as well of other issues. This IS very dangerous to drivers owning this vehicle.

I have a 2010 jeep liberty sport and it's headlights continue to go off on me while on the highway and it's only noticeable at night in which IS not safe. I've changed both light bulbs in which worked and then went out within 20 mins agai at night on the highway. Then I changed the 30amp/relay. Then I changed the dimmer switch. All of this did not work. Then the dealer changed the windshield that IS located on the right hand side and it worked for about a week with the passenger side light going out but working when I shimmy the cord of conductor. But like it did previously it's now not just the passenger light as both lights are again not working. And they are starting to flicker then just goes out altogether to where now the shimmy IS no longer effective. Now I've done all I can do on the electrical realm but it seems as though everything I've attempted IS just temporary or does not work at all. What IS the problem. Please help!

The check engine light flashes (critical error - cylinder misfire) and my car vibrates/shakes whenever I accelerate or go up any incline on a highway. I went to see a certified mechanic today (in michigan) and the mechanic said that the 3.7L engine has a design flaw that allows a large amount of carbon buildup in the cylinders, which leads to misfire issues. It will cost over $2,000 to repair this issue (12 hours worth of work - they have to take apart the cylinders and whole ignition/intake system, clean the parts, and replace gaskets). The mechanic says that my car IS no longer safe for highway driving and can break down at any time. This car only has 104,000 miles. Jeep should not get away with such a horrible design flaw that will cause my car to break down.

Water actually drips inside the vehicle, onto the shifting area, seats, and the center of the dashboard where the radio IS located. The water also drips from the front light ceiling fixture, which may be creating an electrical issue. The water IS coming in from where the roof rack tracks begin and end, and runs down toward the middle of the vehicle. This issue seriously needs to be resolved immediately. the rubber stripping that IS holding the roof rack tracks onto the vehicle are either corroding, or the reinforcement agent/s are not working.

The contact was also informed that the vin was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,028.

I checked it out that valve cover got cracked and little hole. I asked wife to start up and I saw a lot of oil come out of valve cover hole . We called tow to come pick up to avoid get engine seizures and I thought it's valve cover then I went to autozone to buy valve cover and gasket and went home to work on jeep. I removed valve cover and found a rocker broke the metal of engine head in passages side. I heard a lot of people who work at dealership shop and other shop said all 3.7 liter V6 isn't good engine for jeep because it's keep blew or problems. It's only 170,000 miles on engine. we just bought 2 months ago it's was good engine and run wonderful then it's broke down for no reason. I had older jeep has never problems with me until this one caused me problems.

I called my local jeep dealership this morning and they told me there must have been an accident for them to deploy, and that I was wrong by telling them the car was stationary in the driveway, and then quoted me $750 for each headrest plus the cost of labor and servicing.

After driving several minutes on a city street, multiple dash light come on, ABS, traction control, esp, and bas. This happens once a week. This problem seems to occur on days above 75 degrees. From the research I have done. I believe its the steering angle sensor / clock sensor. This appears to be a common problem as it was easy to find the information on utube.

Rollover protection valve in the fuel tank has failed and gas pours out of the filler neck when filling the vehicle with fuel. After the pump shuts off, fuel pours out of the filler neck and onto the person fueling the vehicle. This IS an issue that IS being repaired under extended warranty for previous model years but not the 2010 model year, even though it IS the same issue.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE19014 on September 9, 2019, to investigate 128 consumer complaints alleging that the Active Head Rest (AHR) inadvertently deployed without the occurrence of a crash or other rear impact event in model year (MY) 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles.When ODI opened the investigation, ODI was aware of thirteen alleged injuries.A small number of Early Warning Reports identified driver and/or passenger front seat AHR inadvertent deployments without a rear impact event.Reported safety consequences resulting from the AHR deployments include concussions, headaches, soft tissue injuries, disorientation, nausea, vomiting and/or loss of vehicle control as a result of being surprised and distracted by being struck in the head by the inadvertent AHR deployment. On September 24, 2019, ODI sent an Information Request (IR) letter to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).ODI requested certain detailed information from FCA related to the following subject vehicles: MY 2010-2014 Dodge Avenger 200, MY 2010-2014 Dodge Calber, MY 2010-2014 Chrysler Sebring, MY 2013-2015 Ram Tradesman, MY 2012 Ram Van, MY 2010-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, MY 2010-2016 Chrysler Town and Country, MY 2010-2017 Jeep Compass, MY 2011-2020 Dodge Durango, MY 2011-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, MY 2010-2019 Dodge Journey, MY 2010-2012 Jeep Liberty, MY 2010-2011 Jeep Nitro, and MY 2010-2011 Jeep Patriot vehicles.On December 2, 2019, ODI received a response from FCA that included vehicle production data, consumer complaints, field reports, warranty claims, manufacturer actions, production changes, and other data related to the alleged defect from the start of production (2010) through September 24, 2019.On January 27, 2020, ODI received an update to the December 2, 2019, IR response from FCA.On September 22, 2020, ODI requested additional subject vehicle AHR information from FCA.ODI received FCA's response on October 21, 2020.ODI subsequently received an update to FCA's October 21, 2020, response on February 16, 2021.During the investigation, ODI requested updates to certain IR questions on two occasions.FCA provided updates to question #2 on March 5, 2021, and questions #2 and #5 on May 26, 2023. FCA’s IR response data identified approximately 7.5 million subject vehicles (with approximately 15 million AHR assemblies).Due to the large number of vehicles and failure reports, ODI focused its analysis on the FCA vehicle model with the highest failure rate to represent the worst-case scenario.For this purpose, ODI focused on MY 2012-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for its analysis.This population includes 710,890 vehicles that FCA manufactured between August 19, 2011, and August 8, 2015.ODI identified 2,839 alleged AHR failures within this limited population.ODI identified 263 alleged injuries that were caused by AHR failures in MY 2012-2015 Grand Cherokees vehicles.Of these alleged injuries, ODI categorized them as eighty-two (82) soft tissue (neck/whiplash, bruise) injuries, four (4) concussions, fifty-nine (59) headaches, and one hundred eighteen (118) without a specific injury description.Although complainants have alleged injuries, ODI has been unable to obtain evidence to substantiate or validate any injuries where medical treatment was required.Consumer outreach was conducted by ODI, where sixty-three (63) FCA complainants with alleged injuries were contacted.Twelve of the sixty-three FCA consumers responded and were interviewed by ODI.ODI requested medical records, however, only one response was provided. Attorneys representing the responding complainant provided a synopsis that indicated they had experienced prior neck-related injuries dating to the mid-1990s.ODI also contacted one hundred (100) consumers who submitted Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) in an attempt to validate alleged injuries. Despite the efforts of ODI, the office has been unsuccessful at obtaining substantive documentation/evidence supporting complaints that allege serious injuries (where pre-existing medical conditions did not already exist). In addition to the low severity of alleged injuries caused by AHR deployments, there have been eleven alleged crashes and two alleged lane departures within the entire subject vehicle population that has been in the field up to sixteen years (with over 8,500 AHR inadvertent deployments).ODI was not able to validate that the alleged crashes were the result of inadvertent head rest deployments, and the crashes were minor in nature. ODI has conducted a thorough investigation of the alleged safety defect and with up to sixteen years of exposure for some vehicles and over 8,500 inadvertent AHR deployments, no serious crashes or injuries could be validated in the sub-population of focus.The lack of serious injuries validated by ODI with such large period of field exposure is consistent with thework done by NHTSA’s Human Injury Research Division and the Biodynamic Research Corporation, which support that an inadvertent AHR deployment is not likely to cause serious injury.In addition to the low risk of injury, FCA released an extended warranty program that covers inadvertent AHR deployment for ten years / unlimited mileage from the vehicle's in-service date. PE19014 is closed with the FCA extended warranty program.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist, and the Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to determine if the failure of airbags to deploy during severe crashes, in certain vehicles, was the result of a safety related defect. During the investigation a complex failure was studied that can result in non-deployment of subject vehicle air bags and other restraint system devices in severe crash events. The subject vehicles may be equipped with an airbag control unit (ACU) for the supplemental restraint system (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) manufactured by ZF-TRW. The ECU receives signals from crash sensors mounted in the vehicle and deploys the vehicle air bags and seat belt pretensioners in accordance with manufacturer design specifications. The ECU in the subject vehicles contains a model DS84 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) which controls the communication of the crash sensor signal, firing commands (i.e., when to deploy the airbag(s) and/or pretensioners), and fault information (e.g., diagnostic trouble codes). In September 2016, FCA announced recall 16V-668 for certain model year (MY) 2010 to 2014 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep products manufactured with the subject ZF-TRW ACU. In this recall, FCA discussed an EOS condition that resulted in a failure of the subject DS84 ASIC, which caused air bag non-deployment. FCA noted that the defect condition had only been observed in vehicles equipped with sensor harnessing routed across the front of the vehicle. Other FCA vehicles that also used the subject ACU, but were not equipped with cross-car harnessing, had not experienced EOS failures, despite similar time in service. During the course of this investigation, ODI sent two separate Information Request (IR) letters to six vehicle manufactures (including FCA, Hyundai, Honda, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Toyota) and one IR letter to ZF-TRW. These IR letters resulted in ODI receiving comprehensive data from these manufacturers and suppliers. Studies of this data found that the DS84 ASIC does not have sufficient protection against negative electrical transients or electrical overstress (“EOS”) that can be generated in certain severe crashes. An electrical transient occurs when the electrical power supplied to a circuit changes momentarily over a short duration of time. In these severe crash cases, the crash sensors and other powered wiring can be damaged and short circuited so as to create a negative electrical transient of sufficient intensity and duration (that are outside the vehicle manufacturer's specification) to damage the ASIC before the restraint device deployment signal is received by the SRS ECU. This damaged signal can lead to incomplete or nondeployment of the air bags and/or pretensioners. Airbag non-deployment and/or lack of pretensioner operation can increase the risk or severity of injury in a crash.A total of 8 fatalities and 14 injuries were associated with known EOS events. The common element in all investigated manufacturers vehicles is the SRS ECU containing a DS84 ASIC manufactured by ZF-TRW. The risk associated with the ASIC is equally shared among all OEMS involved in the investigation. The actual real-world risk can be mitigated by other factors which were assessed by ODI during this investigation. The first mitigating factor involves protections built into the ACU design which protect the DS84 ASIC from damage. There are multiple strategies and levels of protection employed by different OEMs that provide effective EOS mitigation. The two most common strategies at the ACU level are circuit protection diodes on the remote senor signal lines, and current limiting resistors that protect critical components. The second mitigating factor is found at the vehicle level and involves the location and routing of the wires leading from the crash sensors to the SRS ECU. If the wires are well protected in a crash and are not routed with other power wires carrying large currents, the risk for an EOS event is significantly reduced or eliminated. These design specific factors combine to produce a spectrum of risk for the vehicles equipped with ACUs using the DS84 ASIC. Given the many of years of field exposure, it is possible to divide the subject population into two groups; vehicles which have experienced EOS events, and vehicles which have not experienced EOS field events. Four of the six OEMs involved in this investigation have experienced EOS field events on at least one of their models equipped with a DS84 ASIC. All vehicle models (including the Toyota models identified in the Failure Report Summary of the opening resume for this investigation) with field events have been recalled. In an abundance of caution, ODI kept this investigation open five years to monitor field performance and did not identify any field events on vehicles not included in existing safety recalls. Given the spectrum of risk identified in this investigation and that all vehicles with a demonstrated unreasonable risk have been recalled, ODI is closing this investigation. ODI is closing this investigation with the following manufacturer safety recalls: 16V-668, 18E-043, 18V-137, 18V-363, and 20V-024. With the recall actions taken by the subject vehicle and equipment manufacturers, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exists on other model or model year vehicles outside of the recall scopes. In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. If the holes are damaged or elongated the transmission should be replaced to prevent further damage to the transmission/flexplate or pump bushing due to the inability to properly align the engine to the transmission during the repair. 3. All 62TE equipped vehicles. If pump bushing is scored or damaged and the dowel pin alignment holes are ok, replace the pump assembly as opposed to complete transmission. 4. All 62TE equipped vehicles. If vehicle is jerking/slipping with MIL code(s) P0740 or P2764, check TCC Solenoid operation. If TCC Solenoid is ok, the codes are indicative of a torque converter failure. Replace the torque converter.
