Check engine light came truck started running rough and on low power took to dealer the code was misfire cylinder 5 they found cylinder badley scorred so the replaced the motor at 27000 miles a 6.2 in a 2025 silvarado 1500 trail boss
My Silverado is a 2025 with the 6.2 engine and recently the dealer found metal shavings in the oil which is premature engine failure. My truck is not part of the recall because it is a newer year but these engines keep blowing up theres alot of us please help with another recall for the newer years.
On July 4, 2026 while driving with my family up a two lane state road headed to the lake cruising 55mph the engine blew and locked up with no warning, no check engine light or anything causing me to almost wreck and leaving me and my family stranded in a dangerous situation for a moment. I drive out of town just about everyday for work so my truck is set on cruise control most days through the week making multiple long distance trips a month so the mileage racked up fast for me causing me to go right over my warranty when this happened so I can’t get any help with it. Even knowing the issue right now with the 6.2 they will do nothing.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated the engine was knocking at initial start-up. The contact informed the dealer and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was restarted within seconds and the message "Push to Start" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
On XXX at ~3:00 p.m., I was driving my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country (VIN [XXX]) in stop-and-go highway traffic with Super Cruise engaged. The vehicle ahead was a truck towing a low, empty flatbed trailer. My truck came to a complete stop behind the trailer. While stopped, with no accelerator input from me, the vehicle accelerated forward on its own and struck the rear of the flatbed before I could intervene. My foot was not on the accelerator. It appears the forward sensors may not have detected the low, unloaded trailer as an obstacle, so when the system resumed from the stop it accelerated into it. No injuries. The other vehicle had a steel rear plate and was undamaged; damage to my truck is estimated at $3,549.68. A vehicle that accelerates on its own from a complete stop into a stationary object ahead is a serious hazard. This was low-speed property damage only, but the same failure at higher speed, or with a pedestrian, cyclist, or child ahead, could cause death. I have an infant, and the thought of this happening with my child aboard is alarming. I am concerned that low-profile or unloaded trailers may not be reliably detected by the forward sensing system — a systemic limitation, not a one-time glitch. I ask NHTSA to review whether other GM/Super Cruise vehicles have experienced unintended acceleration from a stop or failure to detect low trailers. I notified GM (Chevrolet claim #XXX) and requested the vehicle's Event Data Recorder and Super Cruise/OnStar telematics be preserved. I am filing this so there is an independent safety record. Brakes failed going into busy intersection with coming traffic. It can be available for inspection. Applied the brakes to stop at stop sign. Truck didn’t slow down - brakes went hard and my truck kept going. Escaped collision of oncoming vehicles going 55mph. Turned the truck a sharp left landing in first lane of traffic and quickly put into reverse. Going into the dealership Monday morning to have it checked. Happed too fast to notice any warning lamps etc..
The specific cause has not been identified. On XXX6, my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom LT Trail Boss unexpectedly rolled away while parked and unoccupied, striking another parked vehicle. The truck remains at Modern Chevrolet and is available for inspection. GM/ESIS opened a safety and product liability investigation and is arranging inspection/data retrieval. I parked at Walmart in [XXX], shut the truck off, exited, locked it, and walked away. Shortly afterward, I heard a sound resembling the key-fob-left-inside warning. My key fob was in my pocket, so I returned and saw the truck moving with no driver. Another person and I tried to stop it. I entered through the driver’s door and pressed Start/Stop several times, but it would not start while moving. It continued moving and struck another parked vehicle. Vehicle dropped off on XXX and Modern Chevrolet could not reproduce the incident or identify the cause. The service advisor stated it “came out of gear but don’t know why” and escalated it to GM. GM/ESIS plans to retrieve SDM/airbag data, and I requested any Tech II/MDI scan data. No warning lights, messages, or chimes were observed during the incident. I did not see/hear “SHIFT TO PARK,” and I was able to lock the truck with the key fob outside. In a later controlled test, I left the truck in Drive and shut it off. It displayed “SHIFT TO PARK” and sounded a warning chime. Opening the driver’s door also produced a key-fob-left-inside-type alert, which did not occur on XXX. The truck did not automatically shift to Park or engage the electronic parking brake and slight movement was felt during the test. No further testing occurred by me after XXX. I have also experienced infotainment freezing after software updates and random electronic parking brake application when shutting off, and remains engaged after restart. The truck received an oil change/tire rotation at Modern Chevrolet on XXX. Cause still remains UNKNOWN. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was traveling at 65 mph when my truck engine shut off, put itself in neutral, asked me to push the start button. And then the screen went black. Would not go into neutral for a tow. Taken to dealer where I purchased it from. Was told that the motor is seized.
The engine started making a ticking noise and getting a little louder while driving to dealer where I had purchased the veichle and had it serviced as called for . They had me leave to check it out , they called me 2 hrs later and said it would need a new engine and it had a spun crankshaft bearing and would be 3 weeks to get the new engine . They said my warranty would cover the billing . I’m presently waiting to hear from them . They told me that the new engine would have a warranty but minus the 31615 miles that my odometer reads now ?
While driving interstate speed pulling a trailer on 08/13/25 had a complete loss of power and truck died. Had to merge on-to the shoulder of the interstate with no power. Parked along side of interstate until towing arrived approx. 2 hours after loss of power event. Truck was towed to Husker Chevrolet where the truck was diagnosed with engine failure. There was no warning of this catastrophic event. On 09/11/26 dealership called stating that they replaced the engine, however the new engine expired while pulling it out of the shop. This would be this trucks 2nd engine.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle was losing power. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights and the engine warning light were flashing, and the message “Reduced Acceleration - Drive with Care” was displayed. The vehicle was operated at reduced power and driven to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle as having engine failure; however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
cold starts sometime there is an audible tick, there is also occasional low oil pressure and the gauge drops and returns to the normal range
I was driving on the freeway and got a service trailer brake system and a brake system failure 62mph top speed. I exited the freeway and came to a stop sign and hit my brakes to stop but was unable to stop and blew through the stop sign. Luckily there were no cars at the intersection and I was by myself.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. The contact stated that water was coming from underneath the driver’s side dashboard. Additionally, the steering wheel was jerking while the lane assist feature was activated; however, the vehicle was not veering to the left or right side of the lane. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and several failure codes were retrieved, and a water test was performed; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was repaired; however, while the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The driver pulled over to the shoulder of the road, and after selecting the 2WD feature, the 4WD feature was disengaging, even though the 4WD warning light was not illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Chevrolet of Troy (1375 S Market St, Troy, OH 45373) for a second opinion. The contact was informed that DTC: U1611 was retrieved, and several unknown repairs were needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
The engine has been using atleast 1 quart of oil every 2000 miles. This is put my maintenance cost way above the estimated maintenance cost projected by the manufacturer This oil usage is also causing premature engine wear as it's a quart low every 2000 miles. Dealer responses was this is normal for this engine. I went back and forth with the about estimated maintenance cost and ofcourse there responses was it estimated, well that's a very inaccurate estimate or willful lie. Idk just not happy about it.
4//6/26 took truck in for knocking noise on the passenger side of the engine- Service could not reproduce the knocking. 6-26-26 low oil light comes on just 3000 miles after oil change - took truck to the dealer - dealer put 2 quarts of oil in the engine. 7-5-26 truck is running poorly took truck into dealership truck displays code P0307 Cylinder 7 Misfire. scoped cylinder 7 and it was damaged beyond repair from piston ring failure. 8-6-26 New 6.2L L87 engine installation complete.
Total engine failure . While driving on the highway car started shaking violently and rattling. Car completely shut down was towed to Chevy dealership and was told it needed a full engine replacement. They said there was a hole in the engine the size of a tennis ball and said it was not user error but a defect . They also indicated we were lucky it didn’t blow up. Car is still being repaired . Being replaced with a gm remanufactured engine
There have been multiple instances of engine ticking upon start up. I have 4 videos with sound. I can provide a link if necessary to dropbox or google drive if necessary since there is no way to upload them to this site. This has been reported by GM 6.2L owners as being a precursor to engine failure. I have not had the sound confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected. There have been no warning lamps.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle remotely, an abnormal grinding and banging sound was heard emanating from the engine compartment. The vehicle independently shut off. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle remotely, but the vehicle shut off again. The contact then attempted to start the vehicle manually, but the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,425.
The engine in my truck had a catastrophic failure (6.2 litre), same as the thousands with the same problem / failure. It had to be towed to the dealership where it underwent a complete engine replacement... it had 8,906 miles on it at the time of the engine failure. It died after making horrendous and loud noise, I was able to coast for a short distance but it came to a stop in the middle of a residential street and had to be towed to a safe location until the dealership could pick it up and tow it to their facility for diagnostics and repairs. I have the invoice with detailed information of the repairs and parts used.
Engine crank bearings failed at only 16,310 miles. Engine replaced with a new one due severe internal damage.
Component Affected: Visibility: Interior Trim / Entertainment Center Bezel Glare Description of Safety Hazard:The interior styling of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado RST contains a design flaw involving the polished chrome trim strip located directly below the main central entertainment center/infotainment screen. Because of the angle of this specific trim piece relative to the driver's seating position, direct sunlight hits this lower screen border and reflects a concentrated, blinding glare directly into the driver’s eyes. This causes immediate, severe visual impairment and a temporary loss of forward visibility while driving. This distraction and blindness prevent the driver from safely observing the road and traffic, creating an imminent crash hazard. The manufacturer has failed to provide a non-reflective, matte finish for this specific entertainment center trim to prevent this hazard.
After having the original '25 6.2L GM L87 engine experience crankshaft bearing failure at approx. 5,700 mi, (previously reported to the NHTSA), the (brand new) replacement engine failed approx. 14,000 mi. later for the exact same reason, crankshaft bearing failure. In both incidents, the failure came 100% without warning, and the transmission LOCKED itself into park, leaving the vehicle and myself dangerously stranded in the middle of the highway; it had to be dragged on and off of the flat-bed tow truck both times.
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., I was driving my 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Duramax on Highway 40 while towing a properly connected trailer. The Multi-Flex tailgate had been fully closed and latched before I began my trip and had not been opened at any point prior to the incident. While traveling on the highway, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled alongside my vehicle and alerted me that my tailgate was down and bouncing on the trailer I was towing. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder and observed that the entire Multi-Flex tailgate had unexpectedly unlatched and was resting on the trailer. I closed and latched the tailgate, which appeared to operate normally, and continued to my destination. At no time before or during the incident did the vehicle display a "Tailgate Open" warning or any other warning message on the instrument cluster. The unexpected opening of the tailgate caused it to strike the trailer, resulting in damage to the Multi-Flex tailgate, the rear bumper, and the trailer. The vehicle has approximately 11,000 miles, was purchased new, and has not been modified. I have opened a case with General Motors, and the vehicle is scheduled to be inspected by an authorized Chevrolet dealership.

On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001. This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issue. GM’s recall remedy for Recall 25V-274 consisted of two different repairs, either an oil viscosity change or an engine replacement, based on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. ODI continues to receive reports of engine failures after the completion of the recall remedy. To date, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V-274, 473 of which involved an oil viscosity change and 26 a complete engine replacement. Additionally, ODI has received 191 reports of L87 engine failures in engines produced after the production period cited in Recall 25V-274. GM reported receiving 6,953 complaints of post-remedy engine failure. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysisto continue investigating complaints of post-remedy engine failure. ODI is expanding the scope of this Investigation to include engines produced after the production period cited in the recall. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
