On September 3, 2026, the vehicle was being operated under normal and intended driving conditions when the Front Heavy-Duty Adjustable Track Bar suddenly and catastrophically failed and/or broke and/or snapped. A track bar is a critical safety component responsible for managing lateral axle movement and maintaining steering alignment. The instant this heavy-duty component snapped, the front axle completely shifted out of alignment, causing an immediate, total loss of steering control, and violent vehicle instability. As a direct consequence of this component's structural failure, I was unable to steer or safely control the vehicle, causing my vehicle to veer dangerously into the opposite lane and into oncoming traffic.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that it was difficult to shift the gear shifter out of park(P). The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was discovered that the vehicle could be shifted out of park(P) without depressing the brake pedal. The contact was informed that the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) had failed. The contact researched the failure and stated that millions of similar vehicles were included in a recall for the BTSI; however, the year and VIN were not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 59,242.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the steering wheel started to shake violently from side to side. As a result, the contact had to depress the brake pedal to diminish the shaking of the steering wheel. No warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the VIN had been included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V350000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
The frame has rusted completely through on both driver and passenger sides. The integrity of the frame is severely compromised and may collapse at anytime. This type of failure could be absolutely catastrophic to everyone who may be involved. It has not been confirmed by a dealer, nor has it been inspected by any others yet. It but was inspected by a ASE-certified mechanic and confirmed. I am a disabled veteran, and I am not even sure how to move the truck with its condition for further inspection. The truck is currently available for inspection at my residence. I purchased the truck in July, 2019. I was unaware of the extent of the rust until this past year. I noticed a small hole in the frame, and currently, the frame looks to be missing 20% of its circumference.
Hit a minor pothole at 70 MPH, had sudden "death wobble" and almost lost control of the vehicle. 100, 410 miles on the vehicle, have had minor wobble in the past occasionally. Steering parts replaced at about 37,000 miles due to failures, installed a steering dampener years ago due to the potential problem, also current tires have less than 8,000 miles on them. Clearly a known danger to these vehicles, why no action?
The manifold bolts rusted away which caused the manifolds themselves to warp. In June of 2015 I had repaired this vehicle because of the same exact problem.
The manifold bolts rusted away which caused the manifolds to warp. I repaired the truck in 2015 and it has happened again in 2022
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. Headlights shut off while driving at random times at night causing complete inability to see on the freeway or back road where there are ditches and things to wreck. Severe safety issue that dealership cannot resolve with usual fixes. Many others have the same complaint about lights going out. This will cause deaths if I'm driving 80 mph on the freeway and suddenly can't see or people can't see me. I've tried everything to fix it with the dealer. It happens while driving at slow speeds and fast speeds and even parked. I've had the tipm replaced, rebuilt the cluster, removed all after market add on, brand new bulbs, checked for codes, repaired wiring shorts. None has fixed the problem.
I was on a on-ramp getting up to hey speed. Hit a little bump where the old and new asphalt join and the rear started to fishtail to the left and started to spin out hot that k-rail then went over it roiling about 30 feet from it. The air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. it was a bit foggy and the road surface was wet.
The passenger side rear window will not roll up when actuated from the driver's window control switch panel. It will roll down from the driver side switches but will not roll back up. The dodge RAM internet forums are full of people complaining about the rear door wiring harnesses failing on 3RD generation dodge RAM pickups.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge RAM 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the odor of diesel fuel was present inside the cabin which had caused respiratory problems for the driver. The contact indicated that the odor was more present while the engine was idling. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer lenoir city chrysler (1206 east broadway, lenoir city, tn.) who replaced the bolts on the egr cooler but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
Started when using the turn signal (left) it makes the right turn on.... And now the right signal IS failing to illuminate. The left signal flashes about 4 times and then the truck chimes and the blinker flasher IS fast. the right rear brake light IS now failed.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge RAM 2500. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle became uncontrollable without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the "death wobble". The vehicle was taken to fenton motors of pampa (123 n hobart st, pampa, tx 79065, (806) 665-8404) where it was diagnosed that the front suspension needed to be upgraded to a heavy duty front suspension. The suspension was updated; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge RAM 2500. While driving above 50 mph over a bump in the road, the steering wheel shook violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering box had excessive play. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 143,000. The vin was unknown.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge RAM 2500. While driving 55 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to steer. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact turned on the emergency lights and coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but it failed to stop the vehicle. The contact shifted into first gear and was able to stop the vehicle. An independent mechanic arrived at the scene and diagnosed that the water pump failed. The mechanic also stated that the bearing caused the serpentine belt to detach. The serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic replaced the water pump and the serpentine belt. The contact took the defective water pump to albany chrysler dodge jeep RAM (located at 2315 santiam hwy SE, albany, or 97322, (541) 967-9105). The contact was informed that the water pump was defective and the design was different. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,426. *As consumer stated the narrative on this form describes the 2ND failed water pump at 87K miles. The first water pump failed at 25K . At this low of miles, this vehicle IS on the 3RD water pump. IS there a design flaw? Three water pumps in 87K miles IS just not normal. It IS extremely dangerous when steering and brakes fail when driving in traffic at highway speeds.*jb
Its about ball joint I visit two times the dealer and the technician say don't need replace I see a problem my direccion IS vibrating I have a video how its look
While sitting in the truck with the truck in park, but unlocked the tailgate came open. The tailgate hadn't been opened for at least 3.5 hours. When the tailgate suddenly fell open it hit the hitch on our enclosed trailer putting a dent in the tailgate. When we googled recalls there's a mention of a recall on 2015 - 2017 RAM trucks due to an actuator malfunctioning and causing tailgates to come open. Please advise if this IS covered.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE14-016 in June 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in Florida or Puerto Rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by Takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of PE14-016, ODI determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by Takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at ODI's insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492
RMD opened this audit query (AQ) investigation in order to better understand and evaluate Chrysler's process(es) for timely and efficient execution of its safety recall campaigns, including its oversight and management of its parts division Mopar.Prior to opening this investigation, RMD had raised concerns with the company related to its execution of two safety recalls, 13V-528 and 13V-529, both of which involved safety defects that could cause the involved vehicles, FCA?s heavier Dodge Ram trucks, to lose steering control suddenly and without warning.Specifically, RMD inquired about the availability of parts for recall repairs, by email and phone on January 15, 2014 and February 19, 2014, due to the volume of complaints it was receiving from owners alleging parts scarcity and parts restrictions. FCA steadfastly denied it had placed parts restrictions on its dealers to manage issues of parts scarcity.FCA shared material showing it had uncommitted stock of parts available for its dealers. Nevertheless, consumer complaints of lack of parts continued.RMD made independent inquiries tosome dealers tobetter understand the conflicting claims between owners alleging lack of ability to repair their defective vehicles due to lack of parts, and FCA?s information showing availability of parts.Dealers informed and provided documentation to RMD on February 21, 2014 and February 25, 2014 showing FCA had, in fact, put into place parts restrictions and, further, had in some instances canceled dealerships? back orders for parts. In addition, during the course of its dialogue with dealers, RMD discovered that FCA had notified their dealerships on February 27, 2014 to return the recall remedy parts over quality concerns, and had therefore effectively canceled its safety recall program without notification to NHTSA. RMD issued a request for information (IR) on October 21, 2014.The company failed to respond to a number of the questions RMD asked that required it to produce specifics surrounding the repairs and parts ordering process with the recalls, including a question about whether a dealer order for recall parts could be canceled and under what circumstances.

Virgin Islands, areas with consistently high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly, ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016, four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016, four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The PE is now closed/upgraded to an Engineering Evaluation (EA15-001) to include all manufacturersand vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's EA investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The recalls related to this PE are: 14V343, 14V344, 14V348, 14V351, 14V353, 14V655, 14V700, 14V701, 14V752, 14V763, 14V770, 14V773, 14V787, 14V802 and 14V817.The number of vehicles affected are an estimate since some vehicles may have both the driver and passenger side inflators recalled.
