While traveling on interstate 90 in washington state, traveling at about 60 mph I noticed a haze behind the truck through the passenger side door mirror. at the time, there were no indications by instruments or warning lights that anything was amiss with the truck. wondering if it was coming from the truck I pulled to the shoulder to check. as soon as I stopped I smelled hot oil, so shut off the engine, released the hood latch and checked the engine compartment. upon lifting the hood of the engine compartment I immediately noticed flames between the engine and fire wall. I retrieved a fire extinguisher from the camper the truck was hauling and attempted to extinguish the fire. two motorists with fire extinguishers stopped to help and the combined use of three dry chemical fire extinguishers would not put the fire out and the truck and camper completely burned. when I reported this to my insurance company we discovered an error in the vin number on my insurance policy. out of curiosity I researched that vin number and was surprised to see that same style truck had also burned. it's vin IS 3d7mu48c84g269656 and can be seen in the 7TH photo that IS uploaded to this report. both were 2004 dodge diesel tucks with low mileage. it seems too much of a coincidence and I wonder if there IS a defect that caused this and how many other of this year, make and model have been destroyed by fire.

Purchased used 2004 dodge 3500 and while driving homedoing 60 mph I experienced such a violent shacking of the front end I nearly loss control of my truck and struck another vehicle on the highway. my wife and I could have been killed. I later learned that this truck suffers from death wobble which dodge IS aware of. as a retired police officer with 30 years I would have towed this truck as unsafe until proper repairs were made based on the violent shaking and loss of steering control the driver experiences. very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed.
I took my vehicle to tire kingdom a reputable tire dealer and repair facility to have my front end checked out, they informed me that the left tie rod end and center link needed to be replaced, the also said that this model truck had a recall on theses parts manufacturer recall number H46 nhtsa recall number 09e-001 and manufacturer recall number N62 nhtsa recall number 13v-528 I verified that there was a unrepaired recall on the vehicle. So I made an appointment with greenway dodge chrysler jeep RAM 9051 e colonial dr, orlando, fl 32817. I told them and showed them the estimate from tire kingdom stating the repairs were needed they had the truck all day oct 5 2018 but did nothing to the steering tie rods
"Takata recall" I have attempted to get my airbag replaced and the dealership states that they cannot work on the vehicle because it has aftermarket wiring. The wiring IS not attached to the airbag and should have no impact on the ability of a replacement airbag working. The current fix they desire IS for me to find a shop of some kind that removes head units and have them remove at my cost, and then have the airbag installed and then have the head unit re-installed at my cost. I purchased the vehicle as IS a little over a year ago. I just want my truck to be safe for my family to be in. My current case number with dodge customer service IS 34528836. Please help me get this fixed.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 dodge RAM 3500. Since 2005, the contact experienced difficulty shifting the gear into park. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v462000 (power train) in 2006. The vehicle was taken to naples dodge chrysler jeep (6381 airport pulling rd n, naples, fl 34109) where the technician informed the contact that the recall had been repaired once for a computer upgrade. Even though the recall failure recurred, there would be an out of pocket cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 2,000.
While driving on a busy interstate highway recentally and pulling a car trailer, I was returning home from a vacation when the throttle position sensor (tps) failed. this results in a "dead pedal" situation, where the engine falls to idle, and there IS no 'drive' to the wheels. this situation IS very serious as sometimes there IS no where to pull off the interstate, due to traffic lane narrowing. my personal situation was that I was able to coast to the side of the road. to re-set the tps, you must stop, put in park, turn the ignition off, wait approx. 10-15 seconds, and then re-start. it should re-set and you can drive away, although a 'check engine' light appears. in my case, the tps failed a second time, a short distance away, and I had to repeat the steps. the second time it "worked" and I was able to drive home. This failure of the tps had a profound effect on me personally. there IS no warning that this IS about to happen. when it does happen, you have no throttle input and you must get off the road. all I could think about during those moments of panic, was being smashed into from the rear! I am aware this IS an issue with my type of vehicle as I have done some follow up research on the internet following my incident. I want to inform you, that I purchased the vehicle new in 2004. this vehicle IS immaculate, and all maintenance IS performed at the local dealer. in car guys terms, this vehicle would be considered a "garage queen" and there would be no contributing factors such as lack of maintaince, dirt, road grime, or abuse. I am convinced this situation will lead to a serious accident, if not to me, then to someone else, and I want to inform you of this potential serious issue. I have spoken to the dealer/mechanic and the solution IS a tps replacement, but in my opinion, this should never happen in the first place.
Driver's door lock actuator quit working, key would not open no entrance by key fob. Had to have it replaced.car was stationary when discovered.
Automatic trans.-when placed in park, cannot get it out of park it seems as though the solenoid that releases the parking pawl does not always release.
My 2004 dodge RAM 3500 will go out of park and into reverse on its own and I was not told that this IS an ongoing problem with this particular truck my truck went on its own one day over 250 feet and drove into my neighbors yard. The truck parking pawl was not completely in as I was told and this truck has the ability to do it on its own I find this unacceptable and a hazard to my health as long with my neighbors. Could you please look into this because there was not a recall sent to me or anything told to me when I purchased this from the chrysler dodge at the dealer I believe that people need to know what they're getting into and possible hazards that are linked to this could you please email me back with any information on this problem. *Tt *tr

I was reversing from my drive way and then put my truck on drive to go up the drive way and then turned the gear shift counter clock wise to put it on park. Got out of my truck and walked in front of it and then ran inside the house to grab what I forgot. When I came back outside, my truck was moving foward by itself, the truck shifted by itself from park to drive. I ran to the passenger side and turned the knob back to park to stop the truck. The truck hit the corner of the house and damaged my house and truck. I was lucky enough to stop it before it went all the way inside the house. Thank god I'm here to tell the story and not under the tire. I tried reporting to chryseler and they said it was my fault for not putting the parking break on and I stepped out and left the truck runnning. I explained to them that its not a manual transmission and it wasnt parked downhill. Got nothing out of them!
Happened on both sides 2 month apart. Loud bang and rumble. Inside tire, tread came off of tire. Damaged inside of wheel well, running lights, fenders on the dually, metal supports on fender. Never had this happen in 30+ years of towing and driving trucks.
TL* takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 dodge RAM 3500. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags); however, the parts do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called a local dealer (premier autoplex 401 US-59 loop s, livingston, tx 77351 (936) 228-4242) where it was confirmed that the recall remedy parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the issue as the contact was awaiting a callback from a supervisor. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Takata recall. nothing IS happening with this recall, if they have the parts to put in new vehicles they should be putting them in vehicles on the road endangering me and my family's lives. If you stop them from selling trucks till they correct the recall it won't be another 5 or 10 years before they get to my truck. They are just waiting everyone out and you know it.
This complaint IS for wiper motor sudden failure on a remanufactured part supplied from oreily auto parts. I replace my wiper motor when the originals wiper park function became finicky. I installed the rebuild motor to factory spec and it functioned properly for about 3 months and proceeded to fail in a major rain storm the wipers would be running full speed then just stop and would resume after about 20 seconds this problem only occurred in heavy rainfall on the hi setting. When it first happened my vehicle partially left the roadway because I misjudged the shoulder width from poor visibility. I exchanged the faulty motor at oreilys for another rebuild motor which lasted about 6 months and it also failed in the high setting in heavy rain in this case it went from working just fine to making a large screeching noise on one wipe and it quit completely this unit did not come back to life. I again exchanged it for another rebuilt unit for oreilys and the new unit lasted about a month and also has failed. It will work fine but just stop working at random until you jerk the wiper arms then it will start working again. This unit was returned to oreilys and I purchased a new unit from dodge. The fact the quality of the parts are so poor it put myself and others in the public at risk due to a high rate of failure from a essential safety component to allow me to see where I am going. The failures occurred on the highways city streets while in motion and at times turning
My dodge trucks violently wobbling out of control at highway speeds.while driving at about 60 mph, I hit a minor bump in the roadway and the truck started shaking violently. The only way it stopped was I had to reduce my speed to 10 mph, the problem was I was in the express lane, I was in front of a semi truck
Truck currently has 76,000 miles. Replaced all 4 ball joints at the same time, fewer than 40K. Had to replace an injector around the same time. Filters dodge came out with were too large, letting "junk" into the injectors. Not ong after that, we were driving and lost power. Pulled to side of road, saw belts hanging down. Popped the hood and the pulley(?) the belts attach to had snapped off! Fortunately, we were on a county road, driving slowly. Then, at 76K, the front left wheel locked up, causing us to have to replace the entire front axle system. We were stopped at a stop sign, then proceeded to pull forward. About halfway across the intersection, left wheel locked up. We could go in reverse, but not forward. Injectors are clogging up as well and will most likely have to be replaced. We bought this new in 2005 for $42,000. It has had an 'easy' life with very little towing.

TL* the contact owns a 2004 dodge RAM 3500. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 05v462000 (air bags). While the vehicle was in park, it accelerated in reverse. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the contact did not know what component was diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired, but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 74,900.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE14-016 in June 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in Florida or Puerto Rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by Takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of PE14-016, ODI determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by Takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at ODI's insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492
RMD opened this audit query (AQ) investigation in order to better understand and evaluate Chrysler's process(es) for timely and efficient execution of its safety recall campaigns, including its oversight and management of its parts division Mopar.Prior to opening this investigation, RMD had raised concerns with the company related to its execution of two safety recalls, 13V-528 and 13V-529, both of which involved safety defects that could cause the involved vehicles, FCA?s heavier Dodge Ram trucks, to lose steering control suddenly and without warning.Specifically, RMD inquired about the availability of parts for recall repairs, by email and phone on January 15, 2014 and February 19, 2014, due to the volume of complaints it was receiving from owners alleging parts scarcity and parts restrictions. FCA steadfastly denied it had placed parts restrictions on its dealers to manage issues of parts scarcity.FCA shared material showing it had uncommitted stock of parts available for its dealers. Nevertheless, consumer complaints of lack of parts continued.RMD made independent inquiries tosome dealers tobetter understand the conflicting claims between owners alleging lack of ability to repair their defective vehicles due to lack of parts, and FCA?s information showing availability of parts.Dealers informed and provided documentation to RMD on February 21, 2014 and February 25, 2014 showing FCA had, in fact, put into place parts restrictions and, further, had in some instances canceled dealerships? back orders for parts. In addition, during the course of its dialogue with dealers, RMD discovered that FCA had notified their dealerships on February 27, 2014 to return the recall remedy parts over quality concerns, and had therefore effectively canceled its safety recall program without notification to NHTSA. RMD issued a request for information (IR) on October 21, 2014.The company failed to respond to a number of the questions RMD asked that required it to produce specifics surrounding the repairs and parts ordering process with the recalls, including a question about whether a dealer order for recall parts could be canceled and under what circumstances.
Virgin Islands, areas with consistently high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly, ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016, four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016, four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The PE is now closed/upgraded to an Engineering Evaluation (EA15-001) to include all manufacturersand vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's EA investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The recalls related to this PE are: 14V343, 14V344, 14V348, 14V351, 14V353, 14V655, 14V700, 14V701, 14V752, 14V763, 14V770, 14V773, 14V787, 14V802 and 14V817.The number of vehicles affected are an estimate since some vehicles may have both the driver and passenger side inflators recalled. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492
On December 16, 2104, Chrysler Group LLC submitted a Safety Recall Report to NHTSA describing a defect in the clutch ignition interlock switches in approximately 66,819 model year (MY) 2006 through early-2007 Dodge Ram Trucks, Dodge Dakota, and Mitsubishi Raider vehicles equipped with manual transmissions and built between July 1, 2005 and July 31, 2006 (NHTSA Recall No. 14V-795, Chrysler Recall No. P80), including 38,969 MY 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 vehicles that are part of the subject vehicle population for PE14-013.Chrysler's Safety Report states that:1) the clutch ignition interlock switch return springs may experience fatigue failure due to material issues; 2) if the return springs are broken, the switch contacts may not reflect actual clutch pedal position; and 3) the failures could result in a vehicle experiencing unintended movement if the ignition is cranked when the clutch pedal is not being pressed.Chrysler's recall remedy will replace the clutch ignition interlock switch on all affected vehicles with a switch with a more robust design. On May 19, 2014, ODI opened PE14-013 to investigate clutch ignition interlock failure in MY 2004 through 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with manual transmissions, based on two MY 2006 complaints and one MY 2004 complaint. One of the MY 2006 complaints involved a fatality that occurred when a young child was able to start a MY 2006 Ram 3500 truck that was parked with the transmission in gear, without depressing the clutch. The diesel engine started and the vehicle moved forward under power running over another child resulting in fatal injuries.ODI's analysis of failure data from all sources identified a total of 14 complaints and 16 warranty claims for the subject vehicles.Thirteen (13) of the complaints and all 16 warranty claims were for the 38,969 MY 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks that were included in 14V-795.The single complaint that was outside the scope of Chrysler's recall was the MY 2004 ODI complaint identified in the opening resume for PE14-013.Further analysis of this incident indicates that the cause of the clutch switch failure in this vehicle was spring damage caused by hydraulic fluid leakage from the clutch master cylinder into the switch. The field data did not show any other similar incidents of switch failures caused by clutch master cylinder leakage. This investigation is closed based on Chrysler's recall.
Analysis of the complaint, field report and warranty data shows that the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles appear to be related to the engine calibration concerns that daimlerchrysler addressed with service bulletins releasing revised pcm software.analysis of the complaints and odi's survey of owners of vehicles that received engine management software updates under tsb #18-013-05 show that these stalling incidents have the following characteristics: - they occur at low speeds, often during parking lot ordriveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal; and - the operator IS almost always able to immediately restart the vehicle.when compared with other safety defect investigations and recalls of conditions that result in stalling during low-speed deceleration with immediate engine restart possible, the failure rate in the subject vehicles IS low.analyses of complaint and warranty data also show a declining trend.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted.see document file for additional information regarding this resume.
On may 16, 2005,odi opened preliminary evaluation pe05-027 to investigate complaints of engine stalling in model year 2004-05 dodge durango suvs and RAM 1500 series pickups equipped with the 5.7L V8 engine.information provided by daimlerchrysler during pe05-027 indicated that a large percentage of the complaints are related to an idle undershoot condition that may cause the engine to stall during turning maneuvers.in february 2005, daimlerchrysler revised the powertrain control module software in production vehicles and issued a technical service bulletin (tsb 18-013-05) releasing the new software as a service remedy for the idle undershoot condition.the bulletin was superceded by tsb 18-013-05a in april 2005.daimlerchrysler believes that the failure rate for stalling while driving due to the idle undershoot condition IS low and that the bulletin has adequately addressed the problem. Since pe05-027 was opened, odi has continued to receive complaints from owners of the subject vehicles who allege experiencing engine stall incidents under all types of driving conditions.in some instances the stalling has continued after the vehicle received the service bulletin repairs.this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea05-018) to further assess the scope, frequency, and safety consequences of the alleged defect in dodge durango and RAM 1500/2500/3500 series pickup trucks.
The subject vehicles are heavy duty pickup trucks with diesel engines and automatic transmissions commonly used for commercial and work purposes.a column mounted shift lever IS used for gear selection and an electronic prndl on the instrument panel provides gear position information to the driver.the subject vehicles are also equipped with a brake-transmission shift interlock that prevents the shift lever from being moved from the park position (when the engine IS on) unless the brake pedal IS depressed and an ignition-shift interlock that prevents key removal unless the transmission IS in the park position.complainants generally report that the vehicle was being operated in a forward gear and brought to a stop through brake application on alevel surface, at which time the operator moved the shift lever to engage the park position.the operator then opened the driver side door and, without verifying park engagement (e.g., prndl gear indication), securing the park brake, or turning the engine off, exited the vehicle.initially, no vehicle movement was apparent, however, a short time later, typically reported as 10 to 30 seconds, the vehicle moved rearward under engine power.the incident often ended in a vehicle crash, and sometimes involved serious injury.two fatalities are alleged.odi?s analysis of test vehicles and some incident vehicles found no evidence to indicate that a shift lever properly placed in park could unintentionally (i.e., without driver input) disengage from that position.however, odi did find that the shift lever could be inadvertently placed, and remain at rest, within an intermediate position between the park and reverse gear positions.when placed in such an intermediate position, the vehicle can experience a delayed pressurization of the reverse hydraulic circuit that IS sufficient to cause the vehicle to roll rearward under power.the delay period allows sufficient time for operators to exit the stationary vehicle without perceiving that the shifter IS not in park.the summary report discusses the technical analysis of this issue in greater detail and compares the frequency of these incidents in the subject vehicles to other peer vehicles that odi examined.as described in their october 4, 2005 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall no. 05V-462, dcc no. E17) to install an out-of-park alarm system in the subject vehicles.the alarm will provide audible and visual feedback to alert the driver, and others, if the driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the engine IS running and the shift lever IS not in the park position.the timing of dcc?s action has yet to be determined.
There have been 50 complaints to odi and daimlerchrysler alleging incidents of reverse powered rollaway in subject vehicles that were parked with the engine running and the parking brake disengaged.the incidents are alleged to have resulted in 42 crashes and 3 injuries. According to daimlerchrysler, incident vehicle inspections have not identified any misadjusted or broken parts.a typical incident IS believed to involve the following set of conditions:(1) with the vehicle on a relatively level surface, an attempted shift into park inadvertently places the transmission in a position between the reverse and park gear detents; (2) the driver exits the vehicle with the key in the ignition, the engine running, and the parking brake disengaged; and (3) after some delay, the vehicle begins traveling rearward.in prior investigations of other daimlerchrysler products, reverse motion was found to result from a gradual pressurization of the reverse circuit (hydraulic reverse). Daimlerchrysler attributes the incidents to operator error in using a system that functioned as designed.according to daimlerchrysler, the alleged defect cannot occur if the driver:(1) shifts fully into park as indicated by end of shifter travel slam, the forward throw of the shift lever, and/or the illumination of the park indication in the prndl display; (2) removes the key from the ignition; (3) turns the engine off; or (4) engages the parking brake. The subject vehicles are equipped with:(1) daimlerchrysler's re-specific transmissions that have been the subject of two previous odi reverse powered rollaway investigations (ea96-006 & ea01-017); and (2) a column mounted shift mechanism with an electronic gear position indicator (prndl) that IS located in the dash display directly forward of the steering wheel.two peer populations of dodge RAM pickup trucks were analyzed for comparison with the subject vehicles:(1) my 2001-02 RAM 2500/3500 pickup trucks equipped with similar transmissions, but a different shifter with a mechanical prndl; and (2) my 2003-04 RAM 1500 pickup trucks equipped with the same shifter as the subject vehicles but different transmissions.the complaint rate in the subject vehicles IS significantly higher than in the two peer populations.this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis.
