The motor on the passenger side sliding door on our 2018 Honda Odyssey failed. The door could not be opened electrically - or Mechanically from inside or outside the vehicle. We had it repaired at the dealer at a cost of ~$2,000. The sliding door was INOPERABLE when the motor failed. If the car was in an accident the door could not be opened by second or third row passengers or first responders to enable evacuation from the vehicle. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! The problem was confirmed by the dealer. The sliding door can’t be opened when the motor fails. The dealer also stated that Honda had an active engineering assessment in process and that a recall might happen - so hold on to our receipt.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power with several warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, shifted the vehicle into park(P), and there was smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle failed to restart after the failure. The vehicle was towed to a service center, where an engine failure was confirmed, and the contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine and front axle had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by telephone. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
All my warning light come on every time I turn on the van. Been going on for several months. Was told the issue will get fixed if the front camera under rear view mirror get replaced. Feel like this needs to be recalled to get fixed, especially finding out Honda already knew there was a issue.
All this warning lights just come on out of no where due to the safety camera feature on the windshield that controls all the safety features of the car and this vehicles are not even 10 years old and the repair cost is too expensive for just that camera and almost every Honda odyssey is having the same issue I think there should be a recall for that specific camera in my opinion.
On October 14/15, 2026 it rained. At approximately 12:25pm on October 15, 2026 my power lift gate stopped working. It wouldn’t open with any of the controls. Upon further inspection we noticed the control module had water damage. We replaced the module on October 21,2026. It is still having issues. It opens with the controls but won’t close using the same controls. You have to manually close it.
It started back in July 2026; I had a warning pop up that some functions aren’t available and to clean front windshield camera. We did. Still received the warning. Sometimes it’s there and sometimes it’s not. I can go down the highway and it will come up and then a few miles later it’ll turn off and the functions work. Even driving around town it does it. I have noticed there are a lot of drivers of the 2018 models having this same issue.
In XXX, the power tailgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey stopped working. I took the vehicle to authorized Honda dealer Fred Beans Honda of [XXX]. The technician documented in writing on repair order #XXX (XXX): "There is water leaking onto the power tailgate control unit. Technician found the water leak going into from the back of roof on the left side. Needs a new power tailgate control unit." Water entered through the rear body seam seals and dripped onto the power tailgate control module (P/N 74970-THR-A12). The removed module showed severe blue-green corrosion -- it does not fail on its own at 31,500 miles. Safety concern: A tailgate whose control module is destroyed by water intrusion cannot be relied on to latch or stay closed; an unlatched or unexpectedly opening tailgate while driving endangers occupants and surrounding traffic. Known defect, not isolated failure: Honda issued a TSB on rear body seam-seal water intrusion on 2018-2019 Odysseys; federal class action Case No.XXX (XXX.) covers 2018-2021 Odysseys with defective polyurethane seam seals destroying the power tailgate control module; numerous owner reports in the NHTSA database describe identical failures. What I did: The dealer quoted $1,302.88. I first asked American Honda by phone for goodwill coverage and was denied. I repaired it myself with a genuine Honda module ($215.57, Order #XXX, XXX); total out-of-pocket $416.92. On XXX I submitted a written goodwill reimbursement request online (case #XXX, continuing prior case #XXX); on XXX Honda denied it as not covered under any campaign, even though the failure is caused by the documented seam-seal defect that is the subject of the pending class action above. What I am asking NHTSA: record this complaint and consider investigation/recall of the 2018-2019 Odyssey seam-seal water intrusion defect. I own a 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring. On May 29, 2026, I started the engine on my Odyssey and several dashboard system warnings appeared. The internet suggested having the battery tested and it was getting low, so I replaced the battery. The warning signs remained and caused several Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistance systems to become unavailable, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation, and Auto High Beams. Additionally, a Brake System warning appears on the dashboard. I have video recording of these warnings from when they first appeared in May. On September 2, 2026, the lights disappeared out of nowhere and all components worked. Later that same date, the lights were back and the components stopped working again. This happened again on October 13, 2026 - lights went off, then returned later in the day. The recurrent temporary reprieve from the lights makes me wonder if there is an electrical short in the rearview camera that controls those safety features. The diagnostics cost of this alone was going to be nearly $200. As numerous other similar complaints have been made to NHTSA, I am hoping this issue will be investigated and addressed - it is concerning that a single system failure is causing multiple safety features to be disabled - notwithstanding that is is difficult to know when to be worried about warning lights when the dashboard is full of them.
Subject: Airbag Deployment After Recall Repair - 2018 Honda Odyssey My 2018 Honda Odyssey received the Honda airbag recall repair in XXX. After the recall remedy was completed, the driver's side by side curtain airbags deployed unexpectedly while I was driving. At the time of the incident, I struck a curb at approximately 25-30 mph. However, there was no collision involving another vehicle, object, or side-impact event, and there was no contact with the vehicle's bumper or body. The tire was not damaged. Fortunately, I was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no children were present. Despite the absence of what I believe would be a qualifying side-impact collision, the driver's side curtain and side airbags deployed. I am reporting this incident because it occurred after the manufacturer's recall repair had already been performed. I will also provide the inspection report from Firestone, which indicates that the front passenger-side wheel alignment was affected as a result of the curb impact. I respectfully request that Honda investigate this incident, review any available SRS (airbag system) diagnostic data, and determine whether the airbag deployment was related to the previously recalled condition or another defect. Please advise if any additional information or documentation is needed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The forward monocular camera mounted on the windshield of the 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite failed, and this single point of failure turned off the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control. A majority of the safety and assist features of the vehicle no longer work.
Front radar/camera failure. All yellow ADAS warning lights turn on simultaneously (Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and Road Departure Mitigation). Problem has been confirmed by dealer. Safety is at risk by not having this crash prevention features on.
there is a very common issue with Hondas that the front camera behind the rear view mirror shuts down which causes many safety systems to shut down and nit work this happened to my car it is very unsafe as i am now missing five very important safety features and i am going to have to pay thousands to repair it. This problem has been confirmed by my mechanic as he inspected it. This happened randomly out of nowhere with no signs of this coming. The five components that do not work because of this camera failure are lane assist, auto high beam, lane departure, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning. This puts me and others at danger.
The vehicle was stalled on highway local about seven times. My car got stranded and almost got into serious accidents. This happened multiple times and Honda couldn’t fix it. I spent $9000 and couldn’t find the problem. Honda changed fuel injectors, pump, regulator, high pressure. But the car is still stranded on highway which is very dangerous
The front camera that controls lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, collision warning, auto high beam, lane departure failed so none of these features work. The component has been replaced by a Honda service center. I don’t believe the failed component is available to inspect.
Camera/Radar behind the rearview mirror failed. This triggered the following alerts to populate. Forward collision alert, auto high beams, lane departure, active cruise control (active and passive both failed to work), brake system, transmission system, lane keep assist failure. The gear indicator would flash when the transmission system error came on. Van has ~76k miles on it. ~$119 for diagnosis, ~$1400 for the part, ~$300 for the calibration and several additional hundred in labor. This is a known issue with the 5th generation Honda Odysseys. Honda won't do anything about it. It was up to 8 error messages on the dash at one point.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway, the rear passenger’s side power sliding door unexpectedly opened, with a message displayed that the rear door was opened. The contact stated that there was a failure with the automatic operation of the rear sliding door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and DTC: B2087 was retrieved. The contact was informed that the rear latch assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed by the dealer that the repair might not fix the vehicle and could cause additional issues. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V795000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by telephone. The failure mileage was approximately 113,987.
I own a 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. On October 5, 2026, at 120,007 miles, an authorized Honda dealership diagnosed the vehicle with DTC U3000-49, Multipurpose Camera Internal Failure. The Honda technician cleared the DTC, but it returned shortly afterward. The technician inspected the camera and connector for poor connections or damage and documented that none were found. The dealership determined that the multipurpose camera needs to be replaced and reprogrammed. I was quoted $2,350 plus tax for the repair. The failure causes multiple Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistance systems to become unavailable and produces multiple dashboard warnings, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation, and related safety-system warnings. I have video documenting these warnings following the dealership diagnosis. My safety concern is that an internal failure of a single multipurpose camera can simultaneously disable multiple collision-avoidance, lane-assistance, and driver-assistance systems. I am reporting this failure so NHTSA has a record of the U3000-49 failure on my 2018 Honda Odyssey and can determine whether this represents a broader safety defect affecting these vehicles. The vehicle has not yet been repaired.
The contact owned a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that water was seeping into the trunk during inclement weather or while washing the vehicle. The contact stated that several warning lights remained illuminated, and the cruise control, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and powered tailgate failed to function as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the metal on the power tailgate needed to be welded to stop the leak, and the dash camera and computer needed to be replaced due to the water damage. The vehicle was repaired; however, water was still entering the vehicle during inclement weather or while washing the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.
-multiple messages/lights on dashboard determined by dealer to be due to forward looking camera, which disables Hondas Sensing safety suite. Available for inspection upon request. -safety of myself/family and others put at risk due to distracting messages/lights on dashboard, which can also conceal additional issues not associated with forward camera. Safety features are disabled when the camera does not work properly, specifically lane assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation , road departure mitigation, auto high beams. -problem has been confirmed by dealer: DTC U3000-49 -yes, inspected by manufacturer/dealership -issue appeared randomly approximately a month ago with no other warning signs
Repeatedly, often several times a day, the front seatbelts become unlatched. They become unlatched without any warning either immediately after fastening them, or while driving
The vehicle doors have given issues where they open when attempting to close. The doors will start closing and then reopen or don’t close at all. We’ve had this van for about a year and started having this issue early on. Upon searching online, it was discovered that are many instances where door issues have occurred and a site found to further support this but my VIN was not listed even though the same issue occurs. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/honda-odyssey-minivan-recalled-over-problem-with-sliding-doors/#:~:text=Honda%20is%20recalling%20107%2C000%20of%20its%202018%20and%202019%20Odyssey%20minivans%20because%20its%20power%20sliding%20doors%20may%20not%20latch%20properly%2C%20raising%20the%20possibility%20that%20they%20could%20open%20while%20the%20vehicle%20is%20in%20motion%2C%20according%20to%20the%20National%20Highway%20Traffic%20Safety%20Administration.%20According%20to%20Honda%2C%20some%20components%20in%20the%20power%20sliding%20door%27s%20rear%20latch%20assembly%20are%20prone%20to%20sticking%2C%20which%20can%20stop%20the%20front%20and%20rear%20latches%20from%20securely%20connecting.%20This%20problem%20affects%20the%20left%20and%20right%20power%20sliding%20doors%2C%20Honda%20says.
The front camera has failed so all of my forward driving safety features no longer work such as lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation. Every time I turn on the engine I have multiple warning lights that appear every time that have to manually acknowledge to clear them from my dashboard.
The Fuel Injectors are failing which is causing a safety concern with regards to moving the vehicle. There was a warranty extension on these items that does not go far enough to remedy the issue. The components have been inspected and confirmed by the Burns Honda Dealership in Marlton, NJ. Because the vehicle does not consistently accelerate, it is a safety risk.
2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L, The vehicle consistently has a significant delay in acceleration. This is especially noticeable when starting from a stop or low speed and attempting to make a left turn across traffic. The accelerator pedal is pressed, but the vehicle sometimes provides little or no acceleration for 1 to 2 seconds. The vehicle will then begin accelerating, sometimes abruptly. This has created a safety concern because the vehicle can begin entering an intersection but fail to accelerate as expected, leaving it exposed to approaching traffic. The problem has occurs regularly and has been noticeable for an extended period. There are no intentional actions by the driver that would account for the delayed response. I am aware of two other Honda odysseys doing the exact same thing. One being my neighbor who brought it up themselves and another, an individual at work. My neighbor has the same year and model. The other I am unsure about. This seems to be a consistent and likely widespread issue. The vehicle is a 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L equipped with the 9-speed automatic transmission. I will be scheduling the vehicle with a Honda dealership and ask the dealership to diagnose this acceleration-delay problem.
Multiple warning lights on. Dealership told me it was code U3000-49 Multipurpose Camera mutimimillmeter wave radar internal electronic failure
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures in the 3.5L V6 engine used in the following vehicles: Model Years (MY) 2018-2020 Acura TLX, MY2016-2020 Acura MDX, MY2016-2020 Honda Pilot, MY2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, and MY2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline. The subject engine failures were analyzed as part of a Recall Query (RQ24013). It was determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of Honda Recall 23V-751. Further, evidence gathered in conjunction with RQ24013 does not suggest this failure is caused by the same crankshaft manufacturing defect that is addressed by Honda in Recall 23V-751. Based on analysis of data from RQ24013, NHTSA has closed that investigation. The significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of RQ24013 presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On June 3, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE22005 after the agency received VOQs and several field reports concerning the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles. The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment. Additionally, Honda extended the warranty coverage to 10 years with unlimited mileage for vehicles requiring the second stage component replacement. ODI continues to receive complaints of the AIS failure to restart, with many complainants alleging the campaign countermeasures had been completed.NHTSA has reviewed Honda's Information Request Letter responses involving warranty claims, lawsuits, and consumer complaints in addition to ODI's own data. This Engineering Analysis is being opened to further consider the potential safety defect, including gathering additional data regarding Honda’s service campaign efficacy. ODI is additionally expanding the scope to encompass all vehicles addressed in Honda’s service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009 as well as newer model year vehicles, which are substantially similar to the vehicles covered by the service campaign. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation. NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
