Over the course of 3 days, cruise control and lane assist systems would shut off and messages would display about adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and collision avoidance system not working. Sometimes a transmission problem message would also become active. Sometimes the messages would be present at startup but other times the systems would show up green on the display and then the systems would shut off while driving causing the vehicle to suddenly slow down in highway traffic. The root issue seems to be a broken or malfunctioning multipurpose camera for the driver assist system. The camera has not been replaced yet to verify but related codes are active based on a code scanner and symptoms match what is expected for the camera failure. The vehicle is 6 years old with 99,400 miles at the first occurrence of the issue and does not have any windshield damage or signs of water leaking that would contribute to a failure. My primary concern is that the software completely disables cruise control when the camera for adaptive cruise and lane keep assist fails causing the vehicle to suddenly slow down rather than allow normal cruise control to continue operating and display the warning messages.
My 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L intermittently fails to restart after the Auto Idle Stop feature shuts the engine off at a red light or stop. This has happened probably 10 times in the past 6 months. In order to start the engine, I must recognize that the engine isn't starting, turn off the vehicle, and turn it back on, often 2-3 times before it actually starts. This leaves the vehicle stopped in a traffic lane at an intersection with traffic trying to pass, which creates a risk of rear-end collision or cars trying to pass me. Cars have gotten into near misses trying to pass me while my vehicle is inoperable. I have no warning lamps or messages before it happens. History: The dealer performed Honda’s idle-stop software update (service bulletin 23-008) in November 2024 at about 63,100 miles. The problem continues. The battery was replaced in December 2022, and the dealer’s October 2026 inspection rated the battery “Good.” (as did a second independent auto shop). At 93,331 miles in October 2026 the dealer documented the complaint, charged a diagnosis fee, and recommended replacing the starter motor at a cost of $954.53 plus a diagnostic fee of $184.95. I contacted Honda, which opened a case and offered only partial goodwill coverage. I am not aware of any additional recall or warranty extension covering this on my model. This appears to be the same condition as NHTSA investigation EA25004 (no restart after auto start/stop engages), which covers 2018-2025 Odysseys. The failure persisting after the software update matches the investigation’s finding that complaints continue after Honda’s countermeasures. I can share vehicle inspection records if helpful.
We were presented with recall information on our vehicle by Honda in August of 2026. We have called our dealership where our car was purchased to schedule the recall repairs. We have been denied 2 times for the repairs and were told they did not have the necessary parts to complete the repairs.
Front camera malfunctioning causing errors ACC, LKAS, Collision mitigation problem, road departure problem, auto high beam problem
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V423000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and the contact was informed that parts were on back order.
The rear coil springs on my vehicle failed before reaching 100000 miles. This affected the performance of the suspension system which reduced steering response and stability at highway speeds. It also likely caused early failure of the rear shocks which had to be replaced at about 105000 miles. The problem also lead to uneven tire wear increasing the risk of a tire blowout. The springs are currently being replaced with Honda OEM parts at a mechanic shop.
The side mirror was loose and fell from the housing. It banged against the car and cracked.
Associated Recall: 26V-423 (Rearview Camera Cable Harness) Description of Safety Defect & Insufficient Recall Remedy: I am filing this complaint to report that the current manufacturer remedy for recall 26V-423 is insufficient due to a related, pre-maturely failing structural component that Honda is failing to address. The rear window seal for the glass sliding door (Honda Part # 73220-THR-A01) on this generation of the Honda Odyssey is made of a defective rubber material. On my vehicle, this seal is prematurely disintegrating into small shreds [Optional: See attached photos]. This degraded seal allows water to seep directly into the rear camera housing area. While the recent recall may have replaced or repaired the immediate rearview camera wiring, the ongoing water intrusion caused by this disintegrating window seal will inevitably cause the new camera components to fail again. Fixing the camera without addressing the root cause—the failing rubber seal letting water in—makes the current recall remedy entirely temporary and insufficient. NHTSA needs to investigate part number 73220-THR-A01 and compel Honda to issue an expanded recall to replace this seal with a higher-quality, weather-resistant material to prevent future safety failures of the backup camera system. I have already reported this issue to the service advisor on Oct 12 2026 at ourisman honda of woodbrige VA and they said they cannot help me with it and recall is not addressing the windshield molding on the rear sliding door of the minivan.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle independently shifted into Park (P). The contact stated that the check engine warning light initially illuminated before the vehicle automatically shifted into Park (P); however, the failure escalated, with the vehicle shifting into Park (P) and shutting off the engine entirely without warning light illumination. The vehicle was able to be restarted following the failure. Additionally, the collision warning light illuminated on the instrument panel, with no vehicles nearby. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The power tailgate on my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L will not stay open sometimes. After it is raised it sags and soemtimes closes on its own, with a beep. This happened mutltiples times over the past year and a few times in XXX where it has closed on my young children while they were near or loading into the vehicle, and it hit me on the head. Nobody was seriously injured, but a heavy tailgate closing on a child's head or neck could cause serious harm. Honda service bulletin 22-018 (XXX) describes this condition and says to replace the right tailgate spring (74981-THR-A01) and clips. Honda has not issued a recall. I opened Honda Customer Care case XXX. The dealer told me Honda needs a paid $250 diagnosis before it will consider goodwill, which I declined. I am concerned this is a safety defect affecting other Odysseys and ask NHTSA to review it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On the middle of July, we were driving and all of a sudden all these lights start coming up the Brake System Warning, Collision Mitigation ,Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) , Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System, Auto High-Beam we took it to holler Honda. They said that it was code u3000–49 for forward camera and that it will need to be replaced. They are charging us almost $3000 to get it fixed.
Front Camera failure which disables the entire Honda sensing Suite, Shuts down Cruise control, lane keeping assist, front collision warning and Auto emergency braking. This has caused the loss of many safety features intended to prevent accidents and injury. There are numerous warning lights on the dash that are constantly displayed and can be a distraction to other safety or maintenance concerns. Dealer has diagnosed the problem to be an issue with a faulty front camera system. The repair for this is extremely expensive
While sitting at light, Idle stop engaged and engine stopped - then car lost all power. I was boxed in in heavy traffic and could not move. The car could not be shifted to neutral when I tried to consider how I could get off the road. After a minute or so power suddenly returned to the vehicle and I was able to proceed. The next day, lucklily at a less busy intersection the same issue occurred (again with Idle Stop engaged). After these events I scheduled to take to dealership. Over the next several days I made sure Idle stop was not engaged and had no further issues. Took to Honda dealership and they determined started needed to be replaced. This repair was completed at my expense.
Code: U3000-49 Multi purpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure Camera
SUNROOF stopped working. diagnosis: motor is the issue. I may have used it 20 times since purchase. I believe water intrusion caused this. it just decided to stop working.
While Automatic IDLE was on, engine shut down at a red light. Dashboard showed message: put in park. Alternator was fine. Battery fine. I DID get the software update but this happened AGAIN. This time was able to put in park and was able to start the car. I have to remember to turn OFF Automatic IDLE to avoid this from happening again.
after a heavy rain, the automatic tailgate opening/closing function stopped working. Trunk can only be opened manually. warning message on dashboard: POWER TAILGATE PROBLEM. water intrusion. cracked seals.
Upon starting my Honda Odyssey, the dash immediately started saying, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Auto High Beam Problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on several occasions while stopped at a red light, the vehicle shut off unintendedly and had to be manually restarted. The battery warning light was occasionally illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,000.
One morning, with no prior issues, we started driving our van and it suddenly displayed several warning lights, including brake system, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance. We took it to Darcars Honda in Bowie, MD who diagnosed it as a front facing camera failure. The dealer replaced the camera and kept the old one. This failure in a six year old van increased the danger of collision while operating the vehicle.
The auto idle start when I am at a red light it will turn off and put it in park. I have to restart the van and put it back in drive. I believe this to be a safety issue. I have my kids with me and its dangerous. I would like to know what can be done and why hasn't this been a recall. I have to remember to push the auto idle button each time I get in to drive otherwise Im afraid ill get stranded at an intersection. Its been going on for at least a year and the dealership thought it was the battery we have replaced the battery so that is not the issue.
Front windshield mounted sensor failure on 2020 Honda Odyssey. Disabled Honda Sensing safety suite which included lane keep assist, adaptative cruise control, auto high beams which all triggered warning messages on the dashboard which all occurred at the exact same time. This problem has been reproduced an inspected by Honda of Frontenac.
The power liftgate is no longer working and locked shut a few hours after multiple warning messages. There was heavy rain that night. It did randomly open and shut all or part of the way before that, sometimes after closing. This often happened after heavy rain when the van was not even in use. It could have popped open at any time, and then warning messages popped up and blocked the notifications and other dashboard information and distracted the driver. It was confirmed by the dealer and they recommended it get replaced, however, the electrical panel was corroded by water damage from a suspected leak in the roof rail. The dealer said that it would probably happen again and not to get it fixed until the leak was determined. Many others have reported this online regarding the Odyssey.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode with the low oil warning light illuminated. The contact became aware of a burning odor coming from under the hood, and the vehicle needed to be towed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the connecting rod bearings had failed and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Both sliding door keep stopping when closing or opening. Have to manually do it sometime. Rear door don't close anymore either only opens has to always be manually close.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures in the 3.5L V6 engine used in the following vehicles: Model Years (MY) 2018-2020 Acura TLX, MY2016-2020 Acura MDX, MY2016-2020 Honda Pilot, MY2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, and MY2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline. The subject engine failures were analyzed as part of a Recall Query (RQ24013). It was determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of Honda Recall 23V-751. Further, evidence gathered in conjunction with RQ24013 does not suggest this failure is caused by the same crankshaft manufacturing defect that is addressed by Honda in Recall 23V-751. Based on analysis of data from RQ24013, NHTSA has closed that investigation. The significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of RQ24013 presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On June 3, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE22005 after the agency received VOQs and several field reports concerning the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles. The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment. Additionally, Honda extended the warranty coverage to 10 years with unlimited mileage for vehicles requiring the second stage component replacement. ODI continues to receive complaints of the AIS failure to restart, with many complainants alleging the campaign countermeasures had been completed.NHTSA has reviewed Honda's Information Request Letter responses involving warranty claims, lawsuits, and consumer complaints in addition to ODI's own data. This Engineering Analysis is being opened to further consider the potential safety defect, including gathering additional data regarding Honda’s service campaign efficacy. ODI is additionally expanding the scope to encompass all vehicles addressed in Honda’s service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009 as well as newer model year vehicles, which are substantially similar to the vehicles covered by the service campaign. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation. NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
