My car would rev without increasing speed and would jerk with braking and acceleration. The honda technician diagnosed a transmission problem called a slip flare and the transmission is being replaced under warranty at 28k miles. I do not believe this caused a safety issue because I caught it early but it took the dealership a couple days to reproduce the issue. There were no warning lights or error codes alerting an issue.
My 2025 Honda Pilot TrailSport has lost electric power steering assist twice. First failure, about 6,000 miles: the vehicle lost power steering while driving on pavement in normal road use, with no water or off-road driving involved. The Honda dealer replaced the steering rack under warranty. Second failure, about 24,000 miles: a few days after the vehicle was driven through shallow puddles on a trail at Broken Bow Lake, OK (about 5 inches deep, below the wheel rims, about 5 mph), it lost power steering assist while being driven to work on public roads in Lawton, OK. The dealer attributed the failure to water and mud entering the power steering electrical connector/wiring and denied warranty coverage. A Honda field representative upheld the denial and told me to file an insurance claim. This failure is in the same area the dealer worked on during the first rack replacement. The failed parts are at the dealer. The steering system's electrical connections should be sealed against ordinary road splash, especially on the TrailSport, which Honda markets as its most rugged and off-road capable SUV. Here, shallow water led to a loss of steering assist days later, in normal traffic on a public road. Any driver who goes through a flooded street or heavy rain could face the same failure without warning. Loss of assist sharply increases steering effort and could cause a crash. I ask NHTSA to review whether the electric power steering connectors on 2023-2025 Honda Pilot vehicles are adequately protected from water intrusion.
There is a constant clicking noise when turning the steering wheel which seems to come from the clock spring. I have verified this same issue on two other 2025 models, and although it does not currently affect vehicle safety, it could potentially do so in the future.
My 2025 Honda Pilot Elite has a persistent creaking/rubbing noise from the steering wheel area when turning at low speeds. This has been brought to Richfield Bloomington Honda twice with no resolution. Visit 1 (9/28/2026): Dealer replaced the clock spring under warranty. Noise returned within days. Visit 2 (10/16/2026, 15,158 miles): Dealer compared vehicle to 3 other Pilots, stated they all make the same noise, and closed the repair order as ‘operating as designed’ with no safety concerns found. Honda has not provided a fix. Multiple other 2025 Pilot owners have filed identical NHTSA complaints (ODI #11765610, #11725404, #11750240) with the same outcome — clock spring replaced, noise persists, dealer calls it normal. I believe the root cause is the steering column bearing assembly, not the clock spring. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this as a potential defect.
While driving to work my back passenger tire bumped a shallow pothole. After the bump, several warnings came on the screen about ABS, Power Steering, automatic bright headlight control and a couple of others. The power steering was completely out. I turned my car off and restarted my car. This restored the power steering, but there was a lane assist error and one other error. I turned around to head home and the sensors went away as if they were reset. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer it did not display that any alerts had been registered on the car and they were not able to duplicate the problem after driving the car for 50 miles. I took the car back home after getting the tires aligned. 2 weeks later the same thing happened again.
While I am driving my vehicle, it suddenly applies the brakes with force and the "BRAKE" dash light appears. This began in Feb 2026 after several months of driving on the same road with no issues. I am at risk of being in a rear end collision if the person behind me is following closely and my car suddenly applies the brakes with force. The dealer cannot reproduce the problem, but it is happening on the same road and they have not tested the vehicle on this road. I do have a video of it happening and the dealership has a copy. We have taken it to the dealership 3 times and I have a lengthy record of each occurrence. The problem seems to be happening more often as time goes on. The dealership keeps telling us they can't find anything wrong - even though they now have the incident on video.
The passenger side seat is either missing or the foam material has been displaced. SInce this seat is both heated and cooled this presents a situation where the air ducts may be covered which if the heat is being seated could cause a buildup of heat and a possible melting or fire concern. The auto is still under the 36,000 mile threshold of warranty coverage but the dealer has refused to fix the issue. They gave me a number for Honda Customer Relations. I have a case number which is #XXX. This should trigger a recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I am about to replace my windshield for the 5th time in my 2025 Honda Pilot Black edition. It has happened in different spots at different speeds and the windshield immediately spreads. I have replaced with OEM glass everytime. This is a safety concern. I joined a FaceBook group for 2025 Honda Pilots and so many others have this sane issue. Its very concerning
A recent drive on the expressway with my two young children turned into a nightmare when my vehicle's transmission failed without warning. Traveling at 65 mph, I was faced with a huge risk to our safety. Sadly, this was not the first time I've experienced problems with this vehicle. The steering wheel has locked up on me multiple times. I've lost count, but it's happened at the least 7 times – and I've been living with the constant fear of being involved in an accident. I've previously tried to address these issues through the lemon law, but unfortunately, I haven't seen any resolution yet.
The AC compressor went out on a new car
When I am driving my Honda sometimes will change gears "hard" or sometimes when I press the gas pedal it will hesitate and not go when I am trying to go around another car. I have had my car for less than a year and it has happened through out my ownership.
Engine is mis-firing and Honda has dreamed the vehicle inoperable until the back ordered parts arrive. I took the var to the dealership on Aug 28, 2026.
My 2025 Honda Pilot Steering Rack was recently replaced for the second time due to failure/grinding of the bearing. First steering rack was replaced at 500 miles and second rack was replaced at 33,000 miles.
Rapid feedback from steering wheel when going over bumps. When low speed turning, power steering would not activate and all dashboard lights would shut off for a brief moment. incident has been verified and repaired by replacing the power steering rack assembly
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle recently received routine maintenance by the dealer; however, approximately one month later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power and came to a complete stop. The messages “Transmission Temperature -Avoid Heavy Acceleration and High Speeds”, “Transmission System Problem”, “Apply Parking Brake When Parked”, “Emissions System Problem”, and “Power May Be Reduced - See Your Dealer” messages were displayed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and was diagnosed with transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 52,646.
The air conditioning system on my 2025 Honda Pilot stopped producing cold air at approximately 21,374 miles. The A/C failure also affects the vehicle’s ability to adequately clear fog and condensation from the windshield during humid or rainy conditions, reducing visibility while driving. On XXX, [XXX] Honda diagnosed the problem and documented on the repair order that the A/C clutch and coil need to be replaced. The repair order states that the parts are “currently on backorder with no ETA.” The vehicle was returned to us without the repair completed and without functioning A/C. We were advised to continue driving the vehicle while waiting for the backordered parts. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
All of the safety feature lights turned on. The dealer's solution was for me to pay attention when I drive and wipe the senor because everything works fine. I was also told to bring it in and they can get the lights to turn off by turning off all of the safety features.
The spring coil in the steering wheel started clicking and making more noise as I make every turn. I took it in to Honda dealership and the replaced the part. The next day it has started making the same noise but worse. It is louder and makes me now feel uncomfortable driving my vehicle.
Ac compressor, my 2025 Honda pilot elite, with 23k miles, AC stop working, went to Honda to get it fixed, but items are back ordered so car is not able to be repaired. Apparently multiple owners who have 2023-2026 pilot are having same issues of premature failing due to parts. And vehicle can’t be driven in SoCal heat.
The seat does not signal that a child is seated in the seat or to put on a seat belt. Shows as if no one is in the passenger right hand seat. Then when my child has the seat belt connected it signals to reconnect multiple times on the dash blinking red and green with sound. Please see picture below. My child is in the right passenger seat with the dealt belt on and shows no one is seated on the dash. When we are turning it blinks red and green.
I have a 2025 Honda Pilot. The air conditioner stopped working late evening on August 26th, 2026. I made an appointment and took it to the Honda dealership service center on August 28th 2026. I was informed of the problem and that the vehicle would be fixed by 9/1/26 or 9/2/26 the latest. I did not hear back from the service center so I repeatedly called Honda service on 9/2/26. I then received a phone call and was told that the repair parts were in back order and that I could pick up my car and drive it without air conditioner as it is not a safety issue. My car sat at Honda service for 6 days and I was never told the parts were in back order. I also spoke to service manager explained that I had recently had knee replacement surgery and still dealing with swelling which worsens in heat. I have now been without air conditioner in my 2025 Honda Pilot since late August. This is unfair and unacceptable. I have bought this to the attention of the corporate offices and yet have not been given any updates. I am still paying for a 2025 vehicle with no working air conditioner. I am concerned of other safety issue and/or the reliability of this vehicle.
Lost power on steering wheel while driving, unable to turn left/right. All of the warning lights related to braking, lane assist, hill descent, adaptive cruise control, trailer stability assist, hill start assist, low speed breaking, auto-high beam, parking sensor detector, etc.. "All wheel drive system problem. Only front wheels may be powered. See your dealer."
On Friday August 21,2026 at approximately 10:00am I departed my house. Approximately 4 minutes later while traveling the engine lost power and began misfiring. Steering and braking capabilities were both reduced. Numerous system failure lights were flashing. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting Honda repair plan.
The moonroof of my car exploded on my panoramic sunroof. It was a hot summer day and I had the AC on. I opened the panoramic sunshade and as soon as it was fully open the moonroof glass upfront exploded. My family and I were very shaken, showered in glass and I almost swerved into a car that was passing me to the left. My wife had a minor cut on her arm that initially looked worse than it was. My younger son got glass in his mouth and said he swallowed some by mistake. The poor kid was crying for days thinking he was going to die. This was not a busy highway. There was no sign of debris hitting the car / moon roof. Pictures were taken after I cleaned up the broken glass around the rim of the moonroof so I could drive 2.5 miles to get off the highway without more glass falling on us.
I presented the vehicle to a Honda service shop for a squeaking noise from the front of the vehicle. The technician diagnosed a 'loose crash bar/reinforcement bar.' The technician tried to tighten the bar but noted it did not tighten enough to stop the movement, and that the bar will need to be replaced to resolve the complaint. When I spoke to the service manager, he indicated that other vehicles had presented with loose crash bars recently and it 'was on their list.' This vehicle is 37,000 miles and has not been in any accidents. It seems unreasonable and a safety concern that a crash bar has loosened after 37,000 miles and cannot be tightened. This suggests a defect in the hardware or torque specifications that could affect how the crash bar performs in an accident.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On June 3, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE22005 after the agency received VOQs and several field reports concerning the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles. The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment. Additionally, Honda extended the warranty coverage to 10 years with unlimited mileage for vehicles requiring the second stage component replacement. ODI continues to receive complaints of the AIS failure to restart, with many complainants alleging the campaign countermeasures had been completed.NHTSA has reviewed Honda's Information Request Letter responses involving warranty claims, lawsuits, and consumer complaints in addition to ODI's own data. This Engineering Analysis is being opened to further consider the potential safety defect, including gathering additional data regarding Honda’s service campaign efficacy. ODI is additionally expanding the scope to encompass all vehicles addressed in Honda’s service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009 as well as newer model year vehicles, which are substantially similar to the vehicles covered by the service campaign. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
